Do note that the food takes a while to prepare if you're ordering online - ASAP was 35-40 min. Inside it looked quite fun and spirited, with lots of seating and lively decor. Servers were speedy and kind with my order. The food itself was alright. The red chili soup wasn't quite spicy, and a bit watery. The fish tacos were also maybe a 3/5. I ordered the stuffed sopapilla with ground beef Christmas style. It was so good! The green chile has so much flavor and just the right amount of heat. I thought the red chile had great flavor as well. I feel like I am a rice snob and I did not enjoy the rice. It was soup like and tasted of tomato sauce. I was surprised how poor the food was at El Patron. It tasted like someone who has zero familiarity with New Mexican food trying to cook it for the first time. The taquitos came from frozen and weren't even fried, they were microwaved and not even warm when served. The heck... The calabacitas was boiled rather than sautéd, completely mushy and flavorless and not even drained well. My plate was watery from it. The queso appetizer was made with cream of chicken, green chile and a little cheese in it. It tasted like spicy cream of broccoli soup served with store bought chips just to be charged $12 bucks for that??? It was nasty. The regular chips and salsa were decent. At least those chips were homemade and warm. We waited a long time for our food because they were understaffed. Service wasn't horrible, but not good either. And then the bill was ridiculous for such low quality New Mexican food. What a disappointment considering how beautiful the atmosphere is with the Old Spanish style architecture. We visited this location for the first time, after dining at El Patron North a few times. We arrived at 1130am on a Sunday and it was not crowded. Got seated right away. Our sweet server, Tiana greeted us immediately and took our drink order. They brought chips and salsa to the table. The chips were crispy and the salsa was hot, but good. My husband and I ordered Bloody Marys and they were juuussst right... not too spicy. I ordered the taquitos appetizer for my lunch (not too hungry today.) My husband ordered the breakfast tamale plate. My mom ordered the Indian taco w/red Chile. All of our food was really good. The red Chile was flavorful and just hot enough. I have been coming for years. Since it opened. This place has always been a place for decent New Mexican food. Today when my family and I were there, the server brought the food and it was wrong. No big deal but when we tried to correct it- the server walked away and said something completely rude under her breath. The manager came by but didn't care. I saw a review that said the salsa was basically tomato paste and they were not wrong. The chips were also very "greasy". I originally ordered a frozen mango marg and it was not frozen at all just had some ice chips on the top. I don't recommend ordering frozen drinks here. We just ate at the Montgomery location 2:00p and it was excellent! We ordered the green chili chicken enchiladas with potatoes and calabcitas. And The green chili blue corn enchiladas. Also ordered the queso dip. Wow! Everything was fresh, tasty and plentiful! Its Cinco de Mayo and this was the perfect choice for lunch. It's been a while since I visited this location but it's always nice to come here to the awesome interiors and atmosphere. I don't know of any other New Mexican restaurants here with interiors this nice. Our server, Agnieszka, was equally awesome. Probably the best server I've encountered in a while. She's from Poland and was so personable. I asked her to write her name out so I could spell it correctly. Her recommendation of the Cheese Chili Rellenos w Green Chili was spot on. I think the best I've ever had. My friend had the Beef Enchiladas w Red Chili - also delicious. I typically love their dishes w the Serrano cream sauce but after I tried a small sample found it too hot that day. They serve Calabacitas (Mexican squash) as a side as well as rice and beans which I love. When we finished Agnieszka brought out the fresh hot Sopapillas perfectly timed. The manager, Victoria, came over and said hello which was also nice. The whole time the 2 Mexican musicians were playing their guitar music which rounded out our time there nicely. A great option when you are craving some not so healthy Mexican eats, including lots of chips and salsa. They have really thin chips which I like it makes some extra crispy and their salsa is really good. The building itself is really beautiful and there's some really cool decor. Having too much fun looking at their light fixtures and when you walk in, there's a fire going which was really nice. They have a pretty solid, happy hour with seven dollar drinks and seven dollar food items. I do think that some of the food items are better deals than others. The cheeseburger chimichanga I got was a good deal, especially with a little queso but a friend got a shrimp tostada, which was just a lot less food. read more

I ordered $434.00 of food for my daughter in law's birthday dinner at her house. i should have been given a tray of enchiladas, two taco family trays with rice and beans and a chicken lasagna tray and sopapillas. However, we were not given rice and beans and the chicken lasagna tray was overcooked and very dry. No one would eat it. I contacted the restaurant on Montgomery and was told a taco tray would be refunded. After a week, I called again and was told a manager would call me back. After 2 weeks of calling the restaurant, I gave up on talking to a manager. Eventually $30.00 was taken off the bill. I love El Patron, but I am very disappointed with the communication of management. No one ever called. I will never order for a party from El Patron again. Great experience! We waited at the bar before our table was ready and had "Spicy Pricks"- a prickly pear margarita. It was delish. The bar service wasn't great but when we were seated, it was better. We didn't have a reservation but arrived at 4pm and there was a 15 min wait. I would recommend getting a reservation just in case because it seems to get busy! read more

So I go to the front and talk to the manager, only for the manager to tell me that the food wasn't put in till an HOUR AFTER we had ordered.
