Had some time to get some lunch while in ABQ. So glad I stopped here. Living in New Mexico there is alway pretty good places for Mexican cuisine. A lot of choices for sure. I have been to the one in Santa Fe, but thought I'd try this one. Not a big crowd for lunch during the week, got seated right away and in the back which was nice. Didn't take long to have the waiter come and ask me what I wanted. Food came really quick and was a big portion for the "lighter side" choice. The food tasted great and my waiter was on top of checking on me after I got my food to Ask how it was, refilling my drink getting me a to go container and bringing me my check. Service was great. The only issue I have was the womens bathroom was not available. When I got there they said it would be just a few minutes, approximately 10 min. That did t happen. The manager said I could use the men's restroom and she would guard the door so nobody came in. But that was not something I was wanting to do. The bathroom never became available while I was there. Solid - better than the SF original. The NM food is pretty good (not my favorite in town, but I'm never unhappy with it) and the drinks are done well. Service is generally (not always) very good. Located in an old steak restaurant, the rooms are pretty nice and pleasantly decorated - frankly, I'd consider Tomasita's Albuquerque outlet to be a pretty reasonable place to bring out-of-towners who are looking for a NM experience. Someone recommended it to my son in the Old Town. We went for dinner. I loved the food. This was the first time I ate sopaipilla. They were so delicious! No wait on the bar! Crowded and a popular spot! Apparently a staple in NM. I had the New Mexico steak and it was delish. Couldn't have the beans but the the green chili was great as part of the serving. Huge plate! The rice was a little bit crunchy but it was great. The chips were thicker than what I am accustomed to but the guacamole, cheese and salsa were absolutely yummy. Creative ambience made it seem a local feel and we love supporting local owned places. We love Tomasita's in Santa Fe and we're excited to checkout the Albuquerque location. While both spots have their unique vibes, we love them both! We joined the online waitlist while we ubered and we recommend that on busy nights. This is a popular spots so joining the waitlist is a smart way to not have a long wait. The drinks were delicious and the chips, salsa, and guacamole were divine. A very strong start! We each got the smothered burrito Christmas style (red and green salsa). YUM! If you want flavorful meat, get the Carne Adovado. If you want a more mild meat, get the chicken. I got the carne adovado and loved every bite. In fact, I ate way too much, but it was worth the deliciousness! Don't forget that you get sopapilla's with homey butter and honey at the end. We placed a large takeout order for a party of about 30 people with a pretty wide variety of items, and I honestly expected it to take quite a while. To our surprise, everything was ready in about 15 minutes, which was incredible. The service was top notch. The staff helped bring everything out and even helped load the food into my vehicle, which made things so much easier with such a big order. The food itself was fantastic. Everything was hot, fresh, and packed with authentic New Mexico flavor. Our group especially loved the Christmas style red and green chiles that combination really made the dishes stand out. What a way to end our trip to ABQ. Amazing food. Great service. And some good time with 2 of our kids. My daughter recommended Tomasita's so we could treat my husband to some good wholesome New Mexican cuisine. And they delivered on all fronts. I did not get a pic of his plate or my son's plate. Let's just say they both enjoyed it all. I had the Chimoya Plate. It was delicious. The Pork Tamale was everything. I had my chilies on the side so I can savor the taste of the food. Me and my sister ended up here by accident but it turned out to be absolutely wonderful. We really enjoyed our food, our server and the ambiance. We got to sit really close to the fireplace on a super cold day so it was so lovely. The food was very good too so that's a plus. I had the flautas that were actually huge and very delicious and my sister had the chile rellenos which she enjoyed quite a bit. My favorite part of the whole meal was The Sopaipillas. Not only were they huge, fluffy and scrumptious - but they came with a side of Cinnamon Butter that was absolutely diabolical. Service was excellent! On a busy Mother's Day we got seated and ordered our drinks and food from the menu. The flautas were cooked perfectly, tacos were nice and fresh, had a half order of nachos and chips and salsa. The chalupas ere a good choice and the stuffed sopallila with ground beef was great. When it comes down to it, outside of the breakfast spots that are absolutely amazing, my go to dinner spot is Tomasitas. There are a few reasons why I choose them over other favorites. The main two are they have the best sopapillas around and their margaritas are unbelievable. I specifically love the swirl. You can only have one, but it is so good. I mean, you can have two, but I've never been able to have more than one. Some of the other elements aren't as notable, their beans could totally use some work for example. I will admit, I wasn't as smitten with it as the Santa Fe locale, but, it's growing on me. I have yet to find that dish that I want to order every time, buuuuuuuuut, I have tried a few different plates. My top two right now are the Randy Travis plate and the Flauta Plate. The pork chops on the Randy Travis always hit, and the Flautas are practically mini fried burritos! You can't go wrong with those. Be prepared because the servings are healthy! You can share if you are feeling peckish rather than hungry. Save room for the sopapillas because they come with every plate. Have them traditionally with honey, but they do offer a butter in the basket too! It's a busy place like most New Mexican fare can be for us, so you can expect a wait during busy hours and season, but they seem to pretty fast. read more

Our server was efficient and knowledgeable and friendly despite being very busy with us and our demanding crew! My first time having New Mexican food and boy was it delicious! I got the Tuesday plate of mixed items. The chile relleno was my favorite but ALL of it was so good. Not too spicy for my palate and the chile sauces were excellent! The cheese used for melting made the dishes savory, comforting and special! I loved everything and could not stop eating until I was completely stuffed and still had extra. Sad to write a bad review because the sopapillas here were delicious , fresh and hot but everything else was a big let down. Our waitress, although was very nice, thought we wanted gluten free because we said dairy free and without discussing with us ordered our "burrito " with corn tortillas. We were excited to try the house-made flour tortillas burritos are traditionally wrapped in and ordered a burrito as one of our two dishes. We were eating it regardless of it tasting really weird because they were super busy, we didn't see our waitress while being very hungry and we don't typically send back food for just not being good to avoid waste. However, at some point we realized the tortillas were corn and not flour like indicated on the menu (and most burritos are) and were basically an unbaked corn enchilada instead of the burrito we selected. When we saw the waitress we checked in with her and she responded well and said made a mistake and will refund the burrito plate. However when she brought the check it wasn't fully refunded, just a credit. Turned out the manager wasn't going to refund it even though waitress said she would and only offered a partial credit. I kindly but assertively requested a full refund and unlike the response of the waitress, the floor manager argued that we ate the "burrito" even when I explained we noticed it wasn't right but didn't know what the problem was and thought we just didn't like it. It was ofcourse after a 30 min wait for a table and it was hard to even pin down the waitress to check in about it. While the waitress and myself had a polite and calm interaction about it , I found the floor manager to be quite unprofessional, rude and condescending. He did refund fully in the end but even after doing so was very rude. Really weird to keep arguing that we ate and didn't say anything right away when they didnt serve us the burrito we ordered and until we realized it was a mistake we just thought it was a bac meal. I'd think it would be more important to a respectable restaurant to not have customers think they serve bad burritos. So I don't recommend this place even though the sopapillas and the local raw honey were good. Our other plate was better than the "burrito " but their chile sauces were kinda meh for us too.
