It was interesting when we decided to have a dinner recently for visiting family, avoid the cooking hassles and it would be Mexican Cuisine and have it catered! Up until recently we had at least a handful of Mexican-style eateries from differing regions in our neighborhood that were our go to locations for us, so we decided to conduct a review of these fave locations in preparation for this dinner, and low and behold, in our opinion most of their status' abruptly changed from fave, to non fave! I have come to the conclusion, that many of the resto industry's woes are founded in today's economy and other mitigating factors. One of our faves over the past ten plus years, we had the opportunity of visiting quite a bit, where as it became one of top five go-to Mex eats. Garcia's Mexican Grill made the grade in more ways than one! As I've previously mentioned, it's not the finest Mexican Cuisine in Phoenix, it does a great job putting some very, very superb flavors on your dish and of putting together some selections that are well worth the visit. They offer delectable Carnitas, an incredible pico de gallo; fantastic Enchiladas whether Chicken, Beef or Cheese, and a fantabulous green sauce, the terrific Chicken Tortilla Soup and some fab homemade tortilla strips, just to mention a few items. If you've never visited Garcia, I recommend El Magnifico Sampler is a great bet since it gives the novice to Garcia's the best of everything! It was not difficult to make a choice as to who would do our catering. Our catered dinner consisted of magnificent renderings of their beef and cheese enchiladas, the hard tacos were perfectly crisp and homemade, along with all the prepared accoutrements that go with it, and without saying, their servings include rice and choice of refried, charro, or black beans and more. And as is always good, the catered food was as excellent as the restaurant's! Again, after deliberating between four other Mexican Cuisine establishments, we've concluded that Garcia's is pretty much our neighborhood Mexican go to place for a full lunch, dinner, deserts, drinks, and now catering. Every visit comes with fresh chips, salsa, and bean dip! Service is always quick and I love the window seats for people watching in the mall or the decor across the aisle at Rainforest Cafe. I usually order the pollo fundido, but also recommend the grilled chicken with the queso on the side. Basically, everything in the fundido without the deep friend tortilla! The kids love the food and we usually have leftovers. Definitely recommend stopping by after a long day at the mall! read more

Hubby & I had dinner here last Fri night. We wanted to try a Mexican restaurant near by, but due to the storms it was closed. We were seated right away. Hubby got a beer & I got the red apple sangria. Hubby's beer could have been colder. I couldn't fin my sangria because it was way too sweet. Hubby got the green chili bowl. I got the rolled tacos. The chips & salsa were really good. The food came out really fast. Hubby said the green chili by itself wasn't very good, but when he put all the ingredients that came with it & a lot of hot sauce in it then it was good. My rolled tacos were good, but the food was cold. I'd rather wait for my food for it was hot. It's a haul for us to get there. No reason to come back to this location. read more

Came here with a couple coworkers. It was pretty empty but nice inside. Service was fast and the waitress was friendly. Our drinks were great. We all had Margaritas. Honestly we love it hear... the bean dip and salsa is a meal on it's own sooooooo delicious!!!! Definitely my favorite I usually get the ultimate nachos the floutas do instead. And my husband got avocado enchiladas the food was good the atmosphere was honestly chill not of noise music in the background light chatter chatter our server was good very attentive, always came back and checked on us and of course asked if we wanted some more bean dip that we had to kindly deny but so wanted but just couldn't Everything was good good until the hostess sat a family behind us. Normally it wouldn't bother us, but the kids behind us were loud, noisy and obnoxious. I have kids of my own, but I also know how to settle them down in public even after their food came in the kids behind us were still the same rambunctious rowdy kids so put a little damper on our dining experience but other then that it was good read more

We were dining here with our three year old when another patron shouted "shut up" at me and my child. What was most upsetting was how management handled it. The manager did not address the behavior, did not check on us, and instead comped the man's meal after he yelled at a family with a toddler. No one ever asked us to be quieter. Staff later confirmed there had been no complaint made before the outburst. Rewarding a guest who verbally targets a parent and child sends a clear message about whose comfort matters. This was a failure of management, not just one rude customer. Families should feel protected in public spaces. We did not. read more

I came here when I was on vacation with my fiancé and family. Service was GREAT! Sat immediately, drinks always filled, chips and salsa right away, order taken quickly. I got 2 margaritas they were so good :). My fiancé and I got street tacos, they were delicious. Family got fajitas and chimichanga, all the food was devoured. While we waited to be seated, I used the restroom which leaves a lot to be desired and unfortunately doesn't have toilet seat covers. This started the visit off on a rough note, but the service and food turned it around. My friend and I absolutely loved the taco salad and a cheese crisp appetizer. The server was friendly and overall I would return. I hope the cleanliness and the state of the restroom improves, but overall is a problem within the mall. Stopped in for a dinner at the bar. The bartender was very kind and attentive. The food was okay but the portion sizes were large! It was kind of busy but okay for a Saturday night around 6pm. I went here on a Sunday afternoon and they weren't packed but they were busy. I was immediately seated. J was feeling nostalgic and was craving their bean dip and margaritas. I ordered the chips with extra bean dip and had 2 margaritas, a mango one and a strawberry one. Both had tajin rims. They were delicious and hit the spot. My table was clean. My waitress was nice. She noticed me reading a book so we chatted a bit about books which was nice. I couldn't eat a full meal plus the chips & dip and drinks so I opted out of a meal. I like the chips and salsa. But why is the refried beans orange looking. Cheese a little tough to swallow. Over all was good food. I'll check back later in the year to update my review. The restroom stalls have big 1" gaps and people want to give you eye contact while you doing your business. Hopefully they fix it soon in the restrooms. read more

Ordered the seafood burrito, imitation krab and real shrimp, super yummy! Also picked up a house margarita, strawberry style, really hit the spot. My mother grew up in Arizona and we have beautiful Mexican family, so we are picky about Mexican food - this is our first stop off the plane whenever we go to visit our family. I was in Tempe for business and wanted something simple. I was seated immediately and for a second thought they forgot about me but that was just my usual impatient self. Ashley my server greeted me with a smile and took my order. She said the chips and salsa would be out shortly and it came almost the same time my Red Chili Colorado did. I came here on a Wednesday afternoon. I tried the chimichanga appetizer, a margarita and the flautas entree. The only item I liked were the chimichangas even though they tasted like any frozen chimichangas you could buy from the store. Not bad but not restaurant quality good. The margarita tasted too artificially fruity and barely any alcohol. The flautas were okay, but the rice was really unpleasant, nothing like Spanish rice, it was cold and too bulbous and didn't taste like anything. Service was friendly but not very prompt for refills, chips, salsa, etc. Chips come with tomatoey salsa and bean dip, and I think hotter salsa upon request. Friday night days they close at 9 pm we arrive at 830 and they are already closed. I can understand if it was 8:50 or maybe 8:45 but why not change closing time to 830? And my question what time is too close to closing time to go to a restaurant maybe it needs to be an hour? I worked in restaurants and we closed at the time stated and left when everything was done. Due to the pandemic, only a few eateries are open where one can properly social distance via their myriad of booths. I was promptly given some chips and salsa after I had sat down. The chips were nice and warm. I was also given a disposable paper menu as this is hygienic. I ordered one of the items off of their lunch special. I chose two items which were the ground beef burrito and their version of a tostada. My lunch was extremely hot right out of the oven. I accidentally touched the plate which was piping hot. We were seated fairly quickly. We were then given our menus. It took awhile to get salsa and drinks. The restaurant is really cute. It has colorful walls and decor, and Spanish tile tabletops. We ordered tamales and seafood fundido. Neither, my son or I could finish our food. Which, by the way, came out pretty fast. We probably enjoyed too much of the bean/cheese dip and salsa with chips before our food arrived. The waiter checked on us regularly and was very polite and friendly. The food was okay. Nothing bad to say about it. With Mexican food in Arizona, it must be quite good to receive an excellent rating. We have so many options for authentic Mexican cuisine in our area. The menu is huge. I'd love to try some other options and, maybe, have dessert and drinks next time. The have a well priced combo meal allowing the customer to choose what entrees are included. We'd go back. Garcias has been around forever and I'll be the first to admit that I've given it a bad rap. This place was fantastic. Seriously everything was great from the service to the food. We both went with the seafood fundido because how often do you see that. The shrimp was tasty, cheese perfectly melted, and that fundido sauce was on point. We also got 2 beers and 2 huge margaritas. That with chips came out to only $60 which is completely reasonable with the great meal that was had. Absolutely going back for the fajitas.
