My experience at Garcia's was completely average. A group of us stopped in for lunch during the week. It was pretty dead inside, only a few tables were occupied so I am wondering if this is typically just busy on the weekends? It was seat yourself so we got a table and received menus and chips/salsa pretty quickly. One thing Garcia's does get right is the chips and salsa. We had three different types of salsa and bean dip delivered to our table. They were all very good and the chips were nice and crisp. Definitely the only thing that set this place apart from similar restaurants. Our server was also very nice and brought drinks out and took our order promptly. I ordered the pollo fundido off of the lunch menu ($9.99) as I have had the dish at other restaurants and loved it. It's basically chicken in a crispy burrito topped with jalapeño cream cheese. It came with rice and beans too. For the price and in comparison to how others prepare the dish it was pretty lackluster flavor wise and much smaller. For the value I felt that it was definitely lacking. There was virtually no kick to the jalapeño cream cheese and not much chicken. The rice and beans were blah. Overall it's okay but has great chips and salsa (which got it a 3 star in my book) plus fast service. I'm not sure that I would make an effort to return though. read more

The only reason for the four star instead of five is that some of the requested modifications were not made. example: no cilantro on the soup, dressing on the side. My husband and I had to run an errand at AZ Mills and had not eaten dinner yet (at 8:30p) because we had a busy evening! Luckily, Garcia's was open until 9 PM and was willing and able to stop our hangry feelings. :) We were seated right away, brought chips and salsa and BEAN DIP (yes, this is complimentary) within minutes. WHEW! My husband and I pretty much inhaled these goodies. Then, I checked in on Yelp and they have a lovely check in offer for a free cheese crisp with the purchase of 2 entrees. We'll take it! For dinner, I ordered the fajita salad with steak and it was pretty tasty! I recommend getting the Southwest Ranch on the side as well. This salad is HUGE and served in a taco bowl. I ate most of the goodies out of it but could not finish the entire thing (especially after inhaling loads of chips and the cheese crisp). For chips, salsa, bean dip, a cheese crisp, and 2 LARGE entrees, we were out the door for $31 including tip. This is not too shabby! My mom and I had been searching for a nearby dine-in Mexican restaurant to visit from time to time and Garcia's hit the spot! We will definitely be returning next time we're in the mood for some Mexican food. It's located conveniently near one of the entrances at Tempe Mills Mall (across from Rainforest Cafe). We arrived around noon on a Monday and there was ample seating. Neither of us drink alcohol, but there appeared to be a full bar that was quite popular with other patrons. I saw lots of mixed drinks and margaritas at other guests' tables. We did order a soda and iced tea each with our meals and they were HUGE!! I'm talking like liter sized beverages at least. I couldn't even finish half of my drink. We each ordered from the Garcia's lunch specials. Both were reasonably priced (around $10 each). A generous bowl (for 2) of hot tortilla chips and a tasty order of refried beans and cheese and somewhat spicy salsa quickly arrived at our table as soon as we sat down. Within minutes of ordering our food arrived. My mom ordered the chile rellenos special with an extra flour tortilla on the side (it came with two very hot tortillas). It was a generous platter of the chile rellenos and refried beans and rice and was quite flavorful. (I sampled a bite of my mom's dish.) The same was true for my lunch special of one cheese and one spinach enchilada special, which also came with a platter of refried beans and rice. I was pretty hungry when we arrived and managed to eat nearly everything on my plate. We did (probably against our better judgement because we were already full) split an order of sugary sopapillas which were sweet and soft and incredible. They came with honey to drizzle and a sweet cream cheese to smear on top. So good!! All in all, we could not have asked for a more enjoyable experience. The decor is pleasant. Everyone from the hostesses to our server to the bussers were all attentive and helpful. Maybe I wasn't crazy about the Spanish rap/pop music that was playing, but that wasn't a big deal. Everything else was great. Like I said, we will definitely be returning to Garcia's. I recommend them if you want a casual, delicious, hassle-free sit-down dining experience. read more

When your soda comes in a giant cup, you know the place is going to be good! Really impressed with this place, the food was plentiful and the service was great. I ordered the "Sies" and was not disappointed, it comes with a shredded beef taco (delicious) cheese enchiladas( sauce was) and chili relleno (loaded with cheese) it happened to be the servers favorite dish and after devouring my meal I understood why. My husband ordered "the Magnifico" which was well.... Magnifico! The dish comes with a beef chimichanga, shredded beef taco, cheese enchilada, and a chicken burrito. The complimentary chips, salsa, and bean dip were really good and the chips were nice and warm when they hit the table. I overall love the food, but never go to the one at Arizona Mills they take too long to serve drinks or food the service is not good at all and the overall ambiance is pretty good not when they do not bring my pregnant mother her drink in time when she's severely dehydrated. I usually have nothing bad to say about Garcia's but this time at this location is the worst experience I have ever had at Garcia's it should not take 20 minutes to ask for orders and get drinks that is overall ridiculous as well as crazy they couldn't even give us plates or silverware until 15 minutes went by as well it's ridiculous waiting that long for service that should be there right when we sit down. It will take them 40 minutes to make my food , which my mother is craving her food for my baby brother. I had to check out my favorite Mexican restaurant. I love Garcia's. The food is so good and the staff is nice and friendly. I always have the same waitress when I come to this location. I always get the build your own combo. I love to shred beef enchiladas here. I love them jalapeno cream cheese dip. I've actually never had nothing here that I didn't like. And I never had a bad experience in any of the locations. But my favorite one is the Garcia's on Peoria and 35th Ave. They have one of the best happy hours in town. Trust and believe I will be back. Been eating at Garcias since the original opened and moved to 35th Ave South of Thomas Road. This is one of the franchise restaurants and one of the larger restaurant. We ordered the Open Face Cheese Quesidilla which was nice and crispy. I ordered one of their signature dishes the Pollo Fundido which are chicken chimichanga with sour cream and cheese which are always good. My daughter ordered the Fish Tacos which were cod in a soft tortilla and presented nicely. The last dish we had were the Pork Fajitas that came out nice and sizzling. My family and I had lunch here on a Saturday. We tried to find it with Siri on the iphone but she had us circling the mall until we finally saw the sign. The reason Siri was confused is probably because it is inside the mall though on the outer edge on the west side. The entrance is opposite the Rainforest Cafe in the mall. We were seated promptly and the service was good up until the end when we needed the check. We started with a cheese crisp thanks to Yelp checkin. It was very cheesy and good. The chips had come with a bean dip or salsa and both were nice with the crisp. I had the chicken quesadilla salad. It came with ranch dressing and had quacamole and pineapple salsa as well as a cheese quesadilla. It was tasty and particularly liked the pineapple salsa. This used be a real nice place to come but it has went down a bit. The food is okay now as before it was very tasty. I had the Grande Chimichanga and it didn't have much flavor. I would say it was a little above bland. One of our party found a hair in her food. The Manager was accommodating and offered to get her a fresh plate or take it off. She decided against a fresh plate. The Manager also asked what she could do to make it right. We decided to wait on that. Our server was a bit rude and had an attitude. This was also the case on a previous visit. Refills were very slow and served with attitude. Before we had always gotten great service but it's different now. We don't feel welcome like we did before. We decided to take the Manager on her offer and asked for a fried ice cream. Our server was reluctant about that so we asked to see the a manager again.
