We had dinner there on a Friday evening after an afternoon in a training session. some of our group were staying at the State Plaza, and we wanted a good sit-down restaurant in the area. This was better than good; the food was excellent! I had a very thick-cut pork chop, with a side of sweet potato and roasted veggies. Dessert was a well-constructed bread pudding. My co-diners' meals were also beautifully plated, especially the tacos. As others have noted, this is not a speedy restaurant, by any means ( would hate to see them with a crowd),but they are pleasant enough and unobtrusive as a servers. I would definitely plan a meal there in the future if I need to stay in Foggy Bottom again. read more

This hidden gem, located in the State Plaza Hotel, is outstanding for lunch or dinner. With delicious food selections, moderate prices for ample portions, and a relaxed atmosphere make dining here pleasent. I was here for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast, I had an omelette with ham, mushrooms, and tomatoes. It was a tad on the bland side and fairly unmemorable. It's good enough if you happen to be in the hotel, but not worth any special trip. For dinner, I started with the butter lettuce salad. This was excellent. It came with fresh lettuce leaves, beets and toasted walnuts. The vinegarette gave it just the right amount of acid to balance our the sweetness of the walnuts. I could've eaten 2 portions. Next came the pork chop. It was properly cooked, but a bit oversalted. It came with a side of pumpkin gnocci which I didn't like at all. The gnocci was al dente, but the taste really didn't agree with me, not sure why. The roasted artichokes was the best part of the dish. They were grilled just enough to impart some sweetness without tasting bitter. Service was good both times. The staff were attentive and prompt. read more

It's rare to find a hotel restaurant that's worth the trip. This place has real, quality food. The service is good, too. The outside seating is pretty nice (but it's tucked away, so no people watching). The fresh bread and creamy butter were great, as was the fresh brewed iced tea. Price was high ($17 for a shrimp Caesar salad), but probably worth it. The weird part is walking through the garage to get to the north tower. read more

Very disappointed. Ordered the entreé Asparagus Ravioli. First the waiter brought me a side order of asparagus! Apologies and another 10 minute wait. The serving size was tiny and the sauce was definitely Ragú or some bottled crap. Very little asparagus either (but lots of little tomato squares) $23 later I was still hungry. read more

I happened upon this restaurant after visiting the monuments. It is in a hotel that doesn't look great from the outside but is very nice inside. This restaurant was a pleasant surprise! I ate their soup of the day which was butternut squash as well as their hummus with olive tapenade served with warm naan. It was delicious and the people working there were very friendly. The state hotel restaurant is quite a bit more than your usual lobby continental type. Very well dressed employees and nicely appointed tables with a rather plentiful menu. It offers a nice breakfast retreat not far from the room and had reasonable hours with a full bar. read more

This is my first review and I want to post this restaurant because this place is so great! We stayed in the hotel for three days, really nice hotel. This restaurant which is located in the hotel is very convenient and has high level of service standards. We had state breakfast and omelette, both of them were delicious. I have to mention that the service was over our expectation! Our server was an asian girl who was so nice and considerate. We asked about the route to metro, she even drew a map for us! Really happy experience and definitely will come again:) read more

This is a resturnat in the back of a hotel. It was perfect for what we wanted that day for lunch and it was a cool reprieve from the DC heat. We loved eating here. Out waiter, Elmer, was so accommodating and friendly. He was very thoughtful. We accidentally spilled wine and he was very gracious and had a sense of humor. Ivan in the kitchen made wonderful dishes like the tacos, and roasted duck salad. The calamari were very good as well. We will eat here again when we are in DC!! read more

Very expensive. Not really worth it though. We went when I wasn't feeling well, (we are locals) I really wanted soup. They had vegetable soup, and it was very good. My boyfriend had the steak which was $30+ and was small and unfortunately over cooked. We haven't gone back and probably never will, unless I'm sick and need soup quickly.. lol read more

Checked into the State Plaza Hotel late evening and decided to try their restaurant Garden Cafe. The wait was so long for such few patrons. It appeared the bartender tended bar and worked the whole restaurant himself. While he was nice, after such a long wait, the food was mediocre. read more

After a lovely sunny day enjoying the Cherry Blossom Festival the last thing in the world we wanted was an undercooked hotdog or a sandwich with mystery meat on it as we sat on the side walk. Fortunately we found this gem and were very pleased. Raul greeted us and sat us quickly. There is a full bar and we didn't need to wait long for our Chardonnay and meal. I had the Fried Green Tomatoes with Shrimp and my guest had the Prosciutto Salad appetizer. Both were DELICIOUS! We were very pleased with the portion size, the location, atmosphere and service. Not at all crowded, but serving b'fast took ages, yoghurt was served when I had asked for milk, and brown toast when white toast had been chosen. It wasn't the waiter's day it seemed. For this, I found the price excessive. read more

I'm not sure if they are ready to be in business yet. I suppose to make reservation for my friend four days in advance. So first when I called I was let right to a voice mail system to leave the reservation time and size. However since I didn't get any response or confirmation I stop by and make the reservation, the waitress didn't know ANYTHING and refuse to ask her college, she just kept saying " I'm sorry we don't take that type of payment" I'm glad one of another waitress stop and said " yes we do" which saved my day... read more

I ordered the lobster roll - very good with a generous portion of salad. when I asked for a piece of the bread that had been brought to the table to be wrapped up (I didn't eat the accompanying bread, since I had a sandwich, and I had a free breakfast at the hotel, but breakfast started after my appointment the next morning), I was told they don't wrap up bread. A bit off the beaten path but a charming and quiet little spot, part of the State Plaza Hotel. If you happen to be staying there don't overlook this gem. Service for dinner on a weekend was excellent, with no reservation, unlike many places that have a long wait. Bibb lettuce salad was a delight, large enough to spit. We both ordered the pork chops with pumpkin gnocchi, with roasted carrots and Brussels sprouts on the side, because it sounded delicious - and it was! Well seasoned, perfectly cooked!
