    Beet Burger

Great service, good food! It's difficult to find Raw Vegan places to eat in Houston, so I was pretty excited about this place. I really enjoyed it. It's very small (5-6 cafe style tables) and it's inside what looks to be a medical office - so it can be confusing once you get there. I had my 10 month old baby with me, if I had the stroller with me it would have been too cramped. Luckily they had a high chair! The food was pretty good and the servings are on the smaller side. I think I'm just used to eating a huge salad all the time though. Everything looks really good but it can get pricey. I had the Beet Burger, it was really good with a nice kick to it, with two sides a garden salad side & kale salad. I also had a blended smoothie which was delicious. Additionally, I ordered Breakfast bars and a slice of raw sprouted bread to go. The sprouted bread was so good!! The staff is really friendly and nice here.

I passed the location twice because the building was further back but once I got there the girl was so helpful in helping me choose my meals. I picked the raw pizza slice w/added portobello mushrooms which was delicious and for dessert I chose the raw key lime pie which was such a delight to eat! A+ will be going back!!

I was extremely impressed with the food and the service. I will definitely be back. Fresh taste and excellent flavor combinations.

    Onion rings -dehydrated not fried.

Wish there were more places like this!!!! Amazing that delicious food can help control/ improve/ or even eliminate illnesses. Small place. Everything that I have had is so good. Better then tuna is probably one of my favorite. Food should be Delicious and nutritious. Keep in mind the names are more of a "reference"; it's not going to taste exactly like "tuna" "pepperoni". The desserts do satisfy that "key lime pie", "brownie", etc craving.

The service was great the lady at the front was really really sweet. I ordered the Better than tuna and it wasnt what i expected at all. I tried ordering it in a lettuce wrap like one of the photos but she said they dont offer that :// also the tuna was extremely spicy, tasted a lot like jalapeños.

In sum, I was blown away. But let me start at the beginning. I simply searched "vegan" in Houston and Garden Kitchen came up. I put the address in my GPS and just went. If I had actually read some of the Yelp reviews thoroughly, I would have known it was a little tricky to find and inside a cardiology clinic. Don't be like me, who drove around for awhile before having to pull over and actually read the details of how to get to his place. When you walk in, you'll immediately find yourself in a doctor's office waiting room. But there are signs telling you how to get to the restaurant. I made it to the restaurant and started reading the menu. I was quickly greeted by culinary professionals busy making raw dishes. I was encouraged me to get the special-vegan meatballs with kale and spinach salad and corn. DELICIOUS! So much flavor, so much high quality food! The meatballs were just the right kind of spicy. While I was eating, I started reading about the story of the restaurant. Dr. Montgomery, the cardiologist who runs the clinic, started Garden Kitchen and is one of the few MDs who wants to heal people's heart related illnesses with food instead of drugs. He's renowned locally. But Dr. Oz needs to do a story about this. It's wonderful to eat raw vegan food that is cardiologist approved and endorsed!

A restaurant in a doctor's office...first time I've seen this type of setup. The inconspicuous building is easy missed off Highway 90 if you're not actively looking for it. The food is prepared fresh when you order and all the ingredients are 100% organic with most menu items also being vegan + gluten free. Tastes-wise, I thought the food was alright. It was somewhere in the middle between "this tastes interesting" and "I've had a lot better." It sucks that everything gets compared to something else that's similar but that's how my brain works and I've better wraps at several other places. However, if I was in the area or passing by this place, now that I know about it, i would definitely stop by again. They have a pretty robust menu that has something that should appeal to almost anyone who likes this type of food. The prices are middle of the road with a few items being more expensive than they should like the chips + guacamole (separate price for each will ends up costing over $10). Overall, I would eat here again if it were convenient but I wouldn't go out of the way to come back.

    Guac Tacs! So good!

As an avid foodie and recent convert to plant-based living I must say this place is top notch! They make it super easy to transition from America's flavorful fatty foods to food that tastes delicious and make you feel lighter than air! They have grab n go items or you can dine in. You gotta try the guac tacos. No need to worry...they're gluten free and dairy free. Matter of fact they don't use any animal proteins in any of the food. Perfect for those that have different reasons why they don't eat meat and you don't have to worry if the soup is made with any chicken or beef stock...it's not! Flavor is infused using fresh herbs and veggies. Garden Kitchen is a must try. Don't forget your raw lemonade ;))

Left to Right: Guac and Chips, Tahini wraps, Sloppy Joe on Romaine. Delish!

At first, I had trouble finding this place because the GPS sent me to the wrong side of Main Street. It's located inside of Houston Cardiac Association by the carwash near Bellfort. Once I walked past the reception desk, however, there it was. It's such a cute little café. The foods here are delicious. I am by no means a raw vegan but the chefs do not hold back on taste. I had some of their picante sauce with corn chips. And it blew me away! I thought it was gonna be bland. I decided to try the key lime pie for dessert. It turns out raw pie is good too! (who knew?) I will SO be back to this place. This tastes better than the other vegan places I've been.

The area is very clean and small. Its confusing at first when you enter because it's not your everyday commercialized food place. Its inside the cardiovascular center like their little food deli place. We got the garden burger which was very good, I liked this one a lot. Also we had the Baby spinach Portobello wrap, this one came with a salad with a very delicious herb de provence dressing which I've never tasted before anywhere and it was so freaking good, and also was accompanied with fresh corn. The wraps themselves were made out of coconut wrappings, the wraps themselves were kind of small so the salad and corn were needed. Overall very healthy and tasty, especially for those of us who are more used to a healthy taste pallet. :)

I wasn't sure what to expect, so I brought along a shopping bag for food. When I arrived, only me and a small family were there. Farmer Joe walked around with us and picked out fresh vegetables for us! It got to a point where my bag was completely full and I had to decline any more. I got eggplant, collards, fresh herbs, swiss chard, broccoli, flowers, and a jar of raw honey. Farmer Joe was suuuuper nice. He explained to us how the farm operates and how they give food to the food bank across the street free of charge for neighborhood families. I won't reiterate information you can find on their website, but they are a great organization! When it was time to pay (cash only), the price was unbelievable for the amount of organic food I had received. (Both me, and the family, paid $5 to $10 extra as a donation to the farm- he said we didnt have to, but we insisted.) I will probably be coming here weekly to pick up greens instead of visiting the grocery store, even if it is out of the way. Not only are you able to get farm-fresh organic food, LITERALLY picked that day, for a low price, you are also helping a farm that gives a lot back to the community. I will also be back to volunteer! TL;DR: Great organic food for cheap. Bring cash when you go, and be sure to chip in some extra cash for donation.

They seem to have a pretty diverse offering of food and even allowed us to pick out our own produce. The staff was very knowledgeable on growing and taking care of plants and was extremely friendly with any questions we had. They are pretty kid friendly as well and we found that many other parents bring their kids to hang out as well. They were pretty relaxed and laid back and just let the kids run free and roam around the property as they pleased which was really nice. The crowd that was there was pretty diverse which was pretty cool. I am not sure if this is how the pricing always works but they gave us a standard size grocery bag and told us we could fill it with whatever we wanted for $5 which I thought was an unbelievable deal. They do everything local, sustainable and organic as well. Naturally I gravitated to the kale plants as its one of my favorite greens and its does not get much better than picking it fresh off the plant. My only concerning observation was that the place seemed kind of like an utopian dream. The location is pretty unique in that is it located in one of Houston's less glamorous neighborhoods which can be totally overlooked but I noticed that very little of the people from the community seemed to be attending and participating. This is concerning since having the community backing up the establishment could be really useful for expansion. But education folks on healthy eating habits is a challenge so no pun intended. Also, as much as I love the easy going type of environment that they create, a little bit more order in the way that they do business could be very useful for them and consumers. All that aside, I highly recommend this place, especially if you live by. There is a great crowd of people to interact with, experts on growing food, kid friendly and open minded environment that is very welcoming and they also do a lot of events regularly which are mostly free to attend. Make sure to check them out and support them because there are not a lot of places like this in Houston.

Prior to this a manager did ask if we were comfortable at our table, due to my mobility issues. If mobility impaired it's best to sit on the main level, especially if the restroom is needed. Otherwise, there are about 4-5 steps, to go through the kitchen. The kitchen is a huge process!!! I was impressed!Service was pretty good. They were knowledgeable, and got our orders correct. At times I felt our questions were answered a bit snippy, but it didn't persist. My party did feel a bit rushed by staff asking to pick up plates in the middle of our meal. This was a bit disruptive, because I would move plates to the edge if I want them removed. The food was really good. The cons for me is the 1% cutlery charge to help tip the kitchen staff, in addition to the 20% regular tip. They apparently do this to not raise menu prices. It's not a make or break thing, I've never seen it before nor was I made aware of it. It might be on the menu somewhere...idk. Additionally, valet parking is available for a fee. Most restaurants offer a birthday dessert, but this one did not. I would return to enjoy a few menu items like the queso, G & G Salad, and the oysters! These were really good.
