As a born and raised New Yorker, I am very happy to report that these perfect chewy bagels are the real deal. Thank god I found my bagel spot in North County! However, make sure to ask for whatever bagels were just made fresh. I once came too early I guess on a week day morning and the bagels (I realized later) were clearly old leftovers from the day before. Not good...so I won't be making that mistake again. Wow!!! The man at the front was SO kind and went absolutely above and beyond giving me complimentary items as well as showering the customers with compliments. He had such a positive energy and you can feel it when you enter the shop. Not only is the service absolutely incredible, the bagels are delicious !! I ordered an 8-grain bagel with strawberry cream cheese and it was so good it's left me craving it ever since. Their breakfast sandwiches are pretty tasty too! This is the greatest bagel place bar none. Today, I went in and was waiting for some of their wonderful cream cheese. Mike, the owner, a super cool NY guy, asked me what I was ordering. I asked him what he would recommend, and let him know I was originally from Philly. I've been trying to new Breakfast spots lately as my old favorite place closed , today I stumbled into Garden state and I was met with the most friendly service and homey atmosphere. I couldn't put my finger on why it felt so familiar. Untill I sparked up a conversation with the young lady working . If you're a native , you've heard of Tip Top Meats. And if you went over the years you know BANANA! (I don't remember her name , but that's what everyone called her ) , who ran that restaurant for as long as I can remember! It was a joy to walk in and see her bright eyed doing what she does best ! Garden state I will be back for some amazing bagels and as an added bonus to get be able to continue to see Banana. I've been coming here for years but in the past few months the quality has declined. Today I saw the woman making the bagels use her gloved hands to clean the counters and then she made bagels with the same gloves. The cheese on my bagel was not melted and overall the bagels are drier than they used to be. I will no longer be coming here as this was my third bad experience in a row. read more

As an East Coast transplant, these are as close as it gets to authentic tri-state bagels - right here in here in North County! The bagels are made fresh daily and contain no preservatives. As such, we freeze any we don't eat that day or the next and they do really well. Mike & his crew are fantastic. People are clearly happy to be there and it is reflected in the level of service. Not only are the people & bagels great, when we inadvertently locked our keys in the car, Mike asked one of his team (thanks Alecia!) to give us a ride to the house to get the extra set. That 3.7 miles saved us a ton of time & frustration as well as a day of tuna fishing as we were headed to the boat. If you like really good bagels served by great people in an authentic setting, then head to Garden State! You won't be disappointed. read more
