Sneaky overcharging for order. This has now happened the past two times i have went so it will be the last. The lady charged me for two creame cheese containers when I got one and also over charged me for the half dozen bagels. Was nearly $40 for half doze bagels, small chream cheeze and a small coffee. When caught she claimed her finger slipped. meh read more

Best bagels I have had in SoCal ... from the east coast and it is VERY hard to get good bagels. But sure does this place hit the spot.

We stopped today at Footwear etc. store and on a way out my boss wants bagels for lunch. First time at Garden State Bagels store (we liked the name), our orders to go were - blueberry for the boss and Asiago for me. We didn't try any schmears or coffee, this review is bagels only. Honestly, I think we finally found the place for bagels, similar to east cost bagels, not to compare to Albertsons on Melrose in Vista bagels. Service was fine, the place was empty, a few tables to eat, it's breakfast and lunch location, would be too far for us to drive, but I realize 2 other places in Carlsbad will be closer. One star off - we didn't meet Mike the owner. read more

First off would like to say MICHAEL. The owner is a gem. I don't think I've seen an owner walk out and thank each guest in the restaurant for just coming in. Wow. Secondly, I'm a originally a Newyorker, once a Newyorker always a Newyorker. I told the girl in the front I had high hopes for their "east coast" styled bagels and the owner came out and gave us the food on the house. We tried to turn it down but he insisted. People like this stand out to me and I would come back even if it was a crap bagel. BUT it wasn't !!! The egg bagel was so soft but also dense like a New York style bagel. The strawberry cream cheese was clearly homemade like a childhood deli. And as I ate it the cream cheese squeezed out the sides just like in New York. You can take a Newyorker out of New York but you can never the New York outta them! So appreciated the kind gesture by Michael and this has officially been the best bagel I've ever had in San Diego or the west coast period! read more

This is the BEST bagel place in North County. Mike, the owner, is the most positive and outgoing guy I've ever met. Everyone is so nice and helpful. The bagels are baked freshly everyday. Definitely recommend getting a bakers dozen with the house cream cheese. Breakfast sandwiches are also the best post surf breakfast and hangover cure. 10/10 read more

The older gentleman (pictured) in staff there was very rude. My friend and I walked in about 130p and saw that all the bagels were gone. It looked like they were closing shop (he was counting money and tallying inventory) but there were some bagels left in a very large bag on the back counter. We decided to purchase a few from that bag and to my surprise, he gave us attitude and made it clear that he was annoyed. How could he be so rude to a paying customer? The worst part was that he reached into the bag of bagels with his bare hands!!! His hands were just touching money! If he is doing this openly at the front counter, who knows what kind of show he's running in the back of the house! That is disgusting! There are a few other locations that sell garden state bagels so if this location doesn't want to lose business, they'd better shape up. read more

Came here while watching some kiddos, and didn't have the greatest of service, which was sad since previous visits have always been great! They were very short when we were trying to order, and once we got home, we realized they totally messed up on our order. Now generally I would have gone back, but when you have kiddos with you it can be rather difficult trying to rally them back in the car etc....and especially when they are hungry. So I ended having to make breakfast which was what I was trying to avoid when deciding to go here to begin with. My sandwich however was correct and rather tasty. Terrible "bagel" shop. Walked in this morning, 4 employees were chatting behind the counter. No greeting. Minutes go by. One even walks up to the order counter and fusses with the POS. Still no greeting. After 5 minutes of standing there my order is taken. For $8.50 I got a large cup of (lukewarm) coffee and the saddest looking everything bagel ($4.50) I have *ever* seen. Two of the coffee pots were out, and the creamer lid fell off when I went to pour into my coffee. Just a really, really bad experience. Won't be coming back here ever. read more

This bagel place is legit and the lines out the door is because it's that good, but also because the space is limited with seating. I used to go to New York to get the most delicious bagels, but now that New York is a bit further away, I would come here instead for that comforting taste of a bagel. However, recently I have to be gluten free and it makes me sad. I didn't see any gluten free bagels either, but I had one bite of my daughter's bagels and broke out into hives later due to the gluten. Sigh.
