Christian & Rosie did a phenomenal job with quickly preparing my bagels this morn. Parker did a great job last Sun at the Carlsbad/Avenida Encinas location. Absolutely the best lox bagel around. Don't hesitate at the price - you get more than your money's worth. Go to Einstein's for a couple of mediocre scraps of fish on a sad bagel chip if you want. Go to Garden State for the real deal. Everyone is super friendly, my fiancé loves the coffee (I don't drink coffee), and the general atmosphere is exactly what you want from a local breakfast spot. As an East Coaster (NY), I have been on the hunt for a decent bagel in California since I moved here 4 years ago, and I can say that hands down, this is the best lox bagel I've had on this side of the country. First off we were on the way to LA from San Diego early and looking for a quick breakfast. My daughter found this place on our route and we stopped in for 5 bagels with cream cheese and 2 coffees. The total was over $28 which I think is too much. The quality was adequate however the service was horrible the man working the counter who I later learned was the owner Steve berated an older couple in front of us insisting he was the last true worker I assume on earth or at least on the west coast. The couple insisted they were and have been employed for years. Steve continued to argue with the couple who for some unknown reason felt they had to explain themselves to Steve. Steve is rude, angry and from a brief Google search an asshole! I will never set foot in another Garden State Bagel location and the Carlsbad location is owned and operated by Steve who had two of his own employees roll their eyes during his rant against the older couple. Steve has professional and emotional issues in my opinion. read more

It was my first time stopping there this morning to grab a couple of bagels on an impulse as I was driving by. The younger staff was polite, wearing gloves and masks and visibly being diligent about covid safety. Then an older staff member who seemed to be either the owner or the manager waltzed in to get things moving along faster (Saturday morning rush)... with his mask pulled down below his mouth as he stood over people's food, which he wrapped with only one glove on. I was glad it wasn't my order because I would have refused to take it and asked for a refund. He did however hand me my two iced mochas with his ungloved hand so I had to rub down the cups with hand sanitizer. Add to that the customer who was wearing his mask below the nose without anyone saying anything... I will not return. Those good-but-not-exceptional bagels are not worth risking my health to give money to a business that doesn't seem to care about pandemic safety. read more

Been going to this place for years as I used to work for the T-Mobile next door years ago. Quality wise it used to be a hit or miss kind of deal under the previous owner Steve. Was never that terrible or out of this world. Much better and organized under the owner Mike. And it's more consistent on quality now too. Overall solid spot for a bagel. read more

The reason why I'm giving them 4 stars is because the owner, always seems to be bother by the clientele. Not friendly at all!! I'm from the Garden State, so I expected Garden State Bagels to be legit, right? Wrong. I purchased two cinnamon raisin bagels that just came out of the oven. The texture of the outside of the bagel was all wrong. There wasn't enough cinnamon or raisins in it and there was an aftertaste of onion. This Jersey girl won't be back and they should change their name to CA Bagels. Is there a good bagel in the state? I'll keep searching. read more
