Several of our friends in the Pasadena area who had beautiful backyards told us that Garden View had done the design and work. We first met with them in 2021 and they created several proposals, with and without a swimming pool, for different budget levels. We also got a few other bids from other companies, but their designs were so much less impressive and attractive that they weren't worth doing at all. We finally decided to move forward with a scaled-back version in late 2023. Garden View replaced our curved, multilevel brick patio with a modern paver one that is much larger and nicer. They also squared out our driveway and replaced most of our plants and trees with nicer versions. In the process, we also discovered that there were a number of foundation problems with our garage and office and they did all of that work too. Their electricians, plumbers, framers, concrete workers, and landscapers are all friendly and proficient and they make sure you are happy with the work, even years later. read more

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Garden View in Monrovia. They landscaped both our front and back yards last year, completely transforming spaces we had lived with for 20 years. What was once boring and ordinary now looks like a beautiful park, complete with a gorgeous pool and spa, beautiful plants, trees, and flowers. The pool has been so refreshing this summer, I am grateful that Mark suggested the pool, when I originally only wanted the spa. As everything has grown in, the transformation has become even more amazing. We constantly have people commenting on how beautiful our yard is, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Garden View also handled the installation of our Studio Shed pre-fabbed ADU and we were extremely pleased with how it turned out. The finished ADU looks beautiful and fits perfectly into our backyard. Garden View designed our backyard with this ADU in mind. We also loved the nursery and the great selection of plants. The entire plant selection process was seamless, and I was able to find everything I wanted. After 20 years of putting up with yards that we weren't particularly excited about, as we never wanted to entertain in the backyard, it is such a joy to look outside and feel like we have our own little park. We are so happy we chose GV for our project!!! What started out as a dream actually came to fruition better than planned, with few setbacks, and on-budget. For a family who's never tackled a project this large, we were extremely concerned about delays and costs. We now look out at our new backyard and pool and just smile, relieved we made the right choice partnering up with Mark and his Team. Thank you Garden View...we'd do it all over again in without hesitation. DETAILS: 1. WHY WE CONSULTED GV - We compared actual site work from other contractors, but noticed annoying details being missed by other GC's. Like really bad tile cuts, pool equipment haphazardly located/mounted, etc. GV's work didn't' exhibit these faults at the example site we saw. That same attention came into play in our project too. Moreover, they were very responsive to our initial bid requests. We were not waiting for people to get back to us, and the concept design was as professional a meeting as we've ever experienced. Well done! 2. PLANNING - Once we fell in love with the concept, we were brought back in to review costing. This turned out to be a learning experience for us. You really don't know what some work entails until it's looked at on-site. Nonetheless, we several changes to the plan until it fell within our budget. What we appreciated was that they offered advice on critical components, but there was never any pressure to keep work that wasn't essential to our concept and/or budget. We were adamant to get the plan right to eliminate changes or delays later. 3. WORK - Project Manager (Eddie) is outstanding. The coordinating of phases from start to finish was surprsingly smooth. Eddie constantly kept us informed via email and text of work that day, work that week, and work to keep in mind that was coming up. We have 3 cars in our driveway and a dog, so we needed to be on the same page at all times to allow access to the yard and to keep the dog safe. Moreover, workers kept the site clean and showed up on time. Eddie walks thru with you and makes sure any thing like a loose paver gets addressed. All of GV's install work (we had landscape, hardscape, gates, pool and electrical) was top notch. All the equipment and quality of materials was the best (ie 3HP pump rather than 1.5HP, Marathon 2 sod). 4. CHANGE ORDERS - we expected there to be some, and there were. One upgrade was mandated by the city. a few others came from us (we loved the plant selection process!). What is most important here is that Eddie has a ton of experience. He guided us on tile choices, paver colors, and in some instances got us some example work to see in person. We really appreciated this so much! He genuinely cares to get it right. 5. INVOICING - as clear and organized as a bank statement. Pay thru a portal as work gets completed. Simple, easy, transparent. 6. TIME FRAME - besides permitting (which GV has no control over), our project only suffered about 3 weeks more than estimated. That was really due to Christmas time off and constant rain in early march. 7. FINSH - We just completed our final walk thru to cover final loose ends and any future warranty needs. We have a very challenging back yard with a vertical drop of approximately 25 feet. As a result, much of our back yard was unusable and very disjointed. We met with Garden View's team, led by owner Mark Meahl, to design and build our dream back yard. Garden View's team designed a very beautiful and creative plan to "connect" the three elevations of our backyard and improve the overall functionality. Central to the plan was to have a mountain stream look and feel, with huge boulders and moving water throughout. Steven Reinoehl was our project manager and did a fabulous job of managing and executing a very ambitious plan. He was also instrumental in suggesting creative changes to the original plan, which added immense value and creativity to our project. The entire Garden View team and sub-contractors were fantastic to work with; very professional and highest of quality. We couldn't be happier with the result (see photos), we absolutely love our "mountain resort" and sport courts. I couldn't imagine a better result!! To be clear, there was only 1 revision made when the initial proposal went way over the cost of what we initially discussed, not multiple revisions. We were told that there would be another revision but didnt hear back from anyone for weeks despite repeated attempts to follow up. I wish I could say that the design was helpful but that is not the case. We started from scratch with a new contractor who did a higher quality design in less than a week and came in at a project cost significantly lower. In addition, the cost of the design was lower and could also be added to the cost of the work. Ultimately, we were made to feel like our project $ did not warrant attention despite their initial proposal coming in over $200k. This was confirmed in the final email we received which included a forwarded message from the project manager saying quote "this is just such a small project". read more

We chose Gardenview for the complete remodel of our front and backyard, including pool upgrade, concrete driveway and landscaping. It was a very project as it also entailed installing an outdoor structure for a pizza oven and a full outdoor kitchen. After a long search and based on work Gardenview did at my neighbour's property , we hired them. Mark Meahl is very knowledgeable as he has been in the business for a long time. I am an exacting customer and despite the usual ups and downs , the project was finished and it is beautiful. We get compliments from everyone who visits with us. A big thank you to - Richard Riedel the project manager who designed "Richard's stairs" a curved beauty that we like a lot. -Steven Reinoehl, project manager who is very knowledgeable! -Flip who "lived " here dealing with masonry and coping. -David who was in charge of all the concrete work. -Victor who was in charge of masonry . -Alvarez pools who took care of the pool and electrical. and Paul in charge of the woodwork: - Jonathan in finance and Donna at the reception. - Some highlights: Mark had the great idea to plant single trunk olive trees along the driveway and now that the trees have matured , it looks great reminding us of our Provence ! -Word of caution: When-one embarks in a big project like this one , it is best to study all options before to minimize costly change orders . - An important positive point: They stand behind their work and will come to fix defective items after installation. We worked with Garden View to put a pool into our backyard and we are very happy with how it all turned out! Really appreciate all of the work that the GV team put into our project over several months. Our pool is stunning, and the whole yard feels differently usable and transformed. Each component was skillfully and thoroughly done, and everything was left in a good way at the end of each day or phase. We had clear expectations and communication about what would be done each week, and when delays, issues, or changes came into play. Our billing was clear and understandable. We could tell that many of the workers take a lot of pride, detail, and care in the work they do. And, we appreciated our Project Manager Eddie's advice and the tradeoffs that he helped us make throughout. We were pretty firm on our budget, and when Eddie found savings, we were able to apply them to things that help us enjoy our new pool and yard even more (for example, a salt system, and leveling out our turf grass).   For my husband and I, this was our very first large home project, and certainly our first pool. We undertook a major project that included a pool update, new decking and complete landscaping. From the beginning to completion the Garden View team was professional and listened to what we wanted. The invoices showed exactly what was work was billed for on each statement. Any changes during the project were agreed upon and approved in advance. The project was overseen by a project manager who was on site almost every day, extremely helpful and kept us updated during each phase of construction. We bought an amazing home that did not have a defined area for our dog, and in fact had a very little yard at all because the house was perched on the edge with drop offs around 50% of this amazing view property. The owner came out and explained the process. We met with Samantha and Eddie and reviewed several different options, clearly explained with drawings and renderings of how it would look and feel. They came up with solutions that we would never have thought of, which was using large boulders to create a natural-looking retaining wall and backfilling dirt. Voila! Instant yard space! The best part of Garden View is their uncanny way to ask questions to "read" the client to understood our tastes for a natural setting. I'll also say this: I've worked with design/build companies on home remodels and they can be grossly overpriced. Garden View was very fair and a year later we are ecstatic about our yard. A friend recommended Garden View, but was concerned they might not travel this far west (Studio City). I'm glad they did. I worked for a long time planning a perfect landscape with Mark, Rich, and all and they delivered. They took a concept that I had and were able to expand/improve on it. The design turned out better than expected. I threw in many ideas along the way. They talked me out of the bad ones, and kept the good ones. The construction was as painless as any annoying construction project can be. Their staff and contractors were always polite and helpful. It was rare not to have someone working almost every day. I have been living in a great house that was perfect to me except for the backyard area.I hated it. Dreary, boring, dry looking, horribly monochromatic....I dreaded spending time outdoors. I really have to hand it to this company. Mark and Eddie are true professionals in an industry that can be unprofessional. Garden View did my original landscape 10 years ago and did a great job. I moved away a few years ago and rented the property out and recently decided to sell it. Needless to say, while it was being rented, the landscape looked less than optimal. I rehired Garden View to spruce it up again for sale. They were extraordinarily quick with their price quote. I didn't get my other quotes back until after I decided to hand the job back to Garden View. They were ready to start and had my project done very quickly. In time for me to list my property on the target date. They managed the entire project and went so far as to resolve a permit issue that popped up the very next day. Garden View is not the cheapest out there. But they do a good job, they are professional and finished the job as they said they would do on time. I have mixed feelings about this company. I wished I could give it 5 stars. Mark and Richard did a good job in the beginning. The landscape makeover turned out to be amazing. I continued to use this company for maintenance in the past few years. They weren't cheap. But the thing I couldn't stand the most was they changed flowers based on their own schedule without giving a notice or sending a quote before the service. I was anxious every time I saw new flowers in my garden. That meant I had to write a big check in the following month. I never knew how much it would be until the bill arrived. I didn't like to deal with this kind of uncertainty. The maintenance crew wasn't professional. I witnessed the leader washed his truck in my front yard. He thought no one was home so he could have a free car wash there. ;) Overall, the maintenance service was not impressive, but it was not bad either. I considered the service wasn't good value for the money, so I wanted to try someone else.... It was shocking that my grass turned brown and dried out within a few days after Garden View provided last service. It was too dramatic. The grass was always green for years ever since I used Garden View, but it was dying after they left. My new gardeners came right away to check on the sprinklers and control. They found out the sprinkler setting was wrong. It was set to only water the lawn with 1% of water instead of 100%. Wow, someone was kidding me! Only ONE percent of water for the grass?! No wonder it almost died. It's sad that I can never use Garden View again. I really want to like them. :_( I am glad I decided to try someone else. With the care of new gardeners, everything is more beautiful now. read more

Anyone who is about to embark on a major landscaping project should know that they are about to kick off a project that will take many months and will in no small way affect their way of life - because it involves one of the most personal possessions we all have - our homes. We bought a house we love with a backyard we tolerated. The pool looked OK but the pool equipment was in disrepair. There was basically no grass, everything was aggregate concrete that I'm sure was pretty cool in the 60's. In fact that's how you could sum it up - I'm sure our backyard was THE place to be in the 60's and 70's (one of the contractors we turned down actually confirmed this when he said, "I know I've partied here when I was a teenager"... I thought that was hilarious). But for today, it was not a happy sight. Enter Mark Meahl and Richard and the whole Garden View team. I could tell within minutes of meeting Mark that he was an honest businessperson, a sincere man, and that he would treat this project for what it was which was the 2nd biggest thing my wife and I have ever spent our hard-earned money on. Most importantly I believed that he would listen to us and then bring an artistic eye to the project to give us the feeling of what we wanted vs. just buying the plants we say we like. I'll fast-forward and just say that we were not only THRILLED with the results, but that I actually very much enjoyed the process of working with the entire Garden View staff as well. A project of this scope happens through teamwork, through give-and-take, and through tens of thousands of little decisions along with hundreds of big ones, and it really requires a team mentality. I felt like Mark and Richard were our partners in the effort to make our backyard safer, more energy-efficient, and most importantly more of a haven for us to re-energize and re-center from our busy work days. And if that's not enough, our three crazy pound-rescue dogs came to like the GV crew and now they have a much prettier place to play as well. There were challenges, there were change orders, there were things that we could not anticipate. But that's every project. When it's your house you want to know that the people on the other side of the tables are not thinking of themselves as vendors, but as your true partners on a path. He educated me and spend a good amount of time with me, making sure I understood the proper gardening steps for the plants I purchased. We've had lots of contracting work done on our house over the years but no one has met the standards set by Garden View. We stumbled upon Garden View on the internet looking for a company that did both landscaping and pools We had our pool designed and installed by them about 7 years ago. They did all the landscaping around the pool as well as some light work on our driveway. We loved the plan, we loved their professionalism and speed of work and we loved the final product. From start to finish I think the entire project took about 3 months. That included the planning, the putting in the pool and doing all the landscape cement work and landscape planting. Can't say enough about Mark and his attentiveness. Truth be told, Garden View wasn't the cheapest place but when we saw the final product we were more than satisfied with the price. Most importantly, over the last 6 years we have had a few issues come up regarding both the pool and some fencing we had put in. Both times Mark came out immediately to inspect the problem and he had both issues repaired within a week. He did so at no cost to us even though neither were under warranty. When Mark and his team said they wanted us to have a "wow" experience, I thought - sure we would. Well, the results are even better. They took our ideas, made some suggestions to take full advantage of our back yard and then presented two designs. Both were good; but, the free form pool they suggested took it up a notch along with the landscape design. The construction process took less than 3 months. The quality of the workmanship, particularly the small details, were better than I've seen from any other contractor. The lead designer was also our project manager. He did a great job of communicating with us every step of the way. No issue or question was left unresolved. Best of all is the final product. It's awesome! We have a resort in our own back yard. We could not be happier with the results and the people at Garden View. I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in a pool or landscape. read more

I don't not recommended this company to anyone. I'm considering adding a pool to our house and decided to give them a call. First I had to call them twice in order for someone to give me a call back. Once I did get a call back I would have to say that the experience with the representative was very disappointing. I have never known of a representative talk themselves out of business. Let me explain. The representative starts by comparing pools they design to cars. He says that they would be considered to a Lexus or Mercedes and they do not do Honda or Toyota work. im like ok great he does quality work. He says that they don't just install pools but patios and bbq islands and if I didn't plan on adding those to the design, then I should go somewhere else. Not only does this idiot, just just tell me that he doesn't want my business he tells me again that he only does Mercedes work. So basically he's telling me that people from El Monte can not afford his services. Well its good to know how this person feels about the people from El monte. I wonder if I told him I was from San mario if the conversation would have been different. Oh well guess my $60k isn't good enough for him. read more

I worked with Garden View Landscaping last year doing a major residential backyard remodel, including pool, and was very happy with the result. Garden View does design/build, which makes "on-the-fly" changes easier. Mark Meahl is the owner, and he was the person to whom I originally spoke when I decided on redoing the yard. He is friendly and competent and helped structure an overall vision for the yard. He subsequently assigned Richard, one of his design specialists, to our project. Richard did a terrific job for us. He had good design ideas, and he listened to what we wanted. We redesigned numerous times. During the construction, Richard was the manager, overseeing the subs. He did a good job sequencing events. I didn't see Mark too much during this time, but when I called him regarding a problem with setting some of the rocks, he came out personally to do the rock positioning. I had asked him to come out personally because he has a particular talent for placing and grouping rocks. I was happy with the result. About a year after the project concluded, several of the 50,000 hour LED landscape lights stopped working. Mark replaced them without charge, even though there was no specific guarantee. Also, we found that the false heather that was planted by the pool was attracting too many bees, so he changed those out at nursery cost for new plants, ie, no labor charges. I felt he did these things from a sense of pride in his work and commitment to his clients. Mark is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive landscaper. I feel he represents very good value. He is honest and does what he says for a fair price. I would definitely recommend him if you are looking to do landscaping for your house. read more
