A hour and 45 minutes to have lunch. Sandwiches were moist on the plate side suggesting they sat awhile for some reason. Reasonable enough prices and very generous servings of fries, but not worth the long wait. Another party got up and left. Maybe 6 parties when we arrived. Inexcusable.

The time here was for breakfast as part of our hotel stay. The view was ok on a foggy morning as all of the tables are booths and look out over the gardens. The lights for the festival can't be seen in the morning, but probably cool to be there at night for that. Breakfast consisted of sausage, scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, yogurt by the spoonful not individual containers, and toast. You serve yourself buffet style. We were there at 8 am on a Saturday and the ketchup and salsa were out as well as the sausage and toast. Give one of the employees a heads up on the sausage as the line was out the door. Food was mediocre and not hot. Plastic spoons were offered. There's one door to enter/exit the restaurant which is a bit tight when there are kids running around and people standing in line to enter. Saw one busser without a tub running around with small plates in her hands. Most of the tables needed to be cleared.

Oregon Garden is a phenomenal 40 acre botanical gardens. Plenty of shrubs and flowers to admire. A nice gift shop with café. There's a resort hotel also with restaurant. And an historic Frank Lloyd Wright designed home on to tour. Been there done that all a few times. Today a friend and I are eating grass fed burgers for lunch at the resort Garden view restaurant. We mountain biked for four hours at Silver Falls State Park. We are ready to chow down. The grass fed burger looks like a half pound patty. The burger with buns and condiments between looks like 5 pounds at about a half a foot tall. Super size me - big boy - whopper! It's OK to pig out once in a while because it's local Oregon quality, pasture raised 100% grass fed beef. Yum - add lettuce, tomato, pickle, crispy onion rings, slab of bacon, any cheese (Pepper jack for me), BBQ sauce and the fresh buns. When you're hungry after touring the botanical gardens and or touring another local attraction nearby - then here's the place to get some good grub to fill your hungry tub. Sandwiches, salads and more sitting out on the outdoor patio - what could you ask for more!

I thoroughly enjoyed eating lunch here with my friends from out of town who were staying at the resort. We ordered salads - Caesar with grilled salmon for two of us and Cobb salad for the third person in our party - which were delivered promptly and devoured by the three of us hungry people. We sat at a table overlooking the gardens, on a patchy-clouds kind of day, and the view was gorgeous even though it's not quite spring and not much is in bloom or leafed out yet. My friends also had breakfast at the Garden View the following morning and said it was good and that they appreciated the included meal with their resort stay. I would definitely eat here again!

Made reservations through Open Table for a birthday dinner, since we were staying the night at the resort. Our reservation check-in was easy and we were seated promptly on the outdoor patio as requested. The hostess who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. Our server, Sarah, was exceptional. She was friendly, helpful, prompt and accommodating...especially since we brought our two small (well behaved) pups with us. We ordered the steamed clams, coconut prawns, Caesar salad, and caprese salad. My husband ordered a Kentucky mule and I received complimentary ice-cream for a birthday dessert. The clams were really good. The prawns were good. The caprese had a basil paste instead of the actual leaves, which was disappointing. The Caesar was really good...the dressing was perfect, not too salty like some can be. The homemade strawberry chocolate brownie ice-cream was absolutely delicious! My husband and I are still talking about it! We may have to stop in and get some to go after we check-out tomorrow ;-) Overall a nice experience. Good food, subtle birthday celebration (no singing thank goodness) and a beautiful garden view! Would recommend.

We had an excellent anniversary dinner at the Garden View Restaurant. I had salmon and my wife had a Rib Eye steak - both were excellent. The service was impeccable and very attentive. Highly recommend the food and service.

When: Saturday Jan. 19, 2019; 5:15 pm Party of 2 The Garden View Restaurant is the on-property restaurant for the Oregon Garden Resort...In addition to the Fireside Lounge, these are your only dining choices on-property...A 10-15 minute drive to Downtown Silverton would be your nearest dining alternatives... Service staff was genuinely friendly and helpful...Reservations for dinner is recommended...For guests staying on-property, the Garden View Restaurant will also be your location, where the morning breakfast takes place... The dinner menu is not very large, but is varied enough to cover all tastes...On this occasion, my wife ordered the Surf & Turf and I ordered the Stuffed Chicken...Presentation was a little disappointing on both dishes and the taste was OK...In my opinion, this dining room is a bit awkward, whereas 3/4 of the room is on the lower level and is accessed by going up and down this rather steep set of stairs...I really feel bad for the service staff and elderly customers that have to go up and down these stairs...

There are not a lot of other dining options in the area, so Fireside is a pretty easy choice. The food is just OK. Definitely stuff that is mass-produced and heated on-site. Prices are mercifully low, so one doesn't feel as though they've been ripped off. There is a big selection of non-alcoholic beverages, which I appreciated. The real standout here was the friendliness of the staff. Everybody I interacted with was very friendly and helpful. There was a band playing during my visit, and they seemed to be as "bar band" as bar bands get. I was the only person who applauded after each song, which was weird to me. I'd have hoped that staff, at least, would have applauded as well.

In the last couple of visits, though, it's different. My past history here prevents me from giving it a 2-star review. I know there has been a management change, and it shows. Some of my favorite staff have departed, seeking greener pastures. The reason for this review now is my most recent purchase ... a $17 glass of Pudding River Pinot Gris. When I found out the price as I cashed out, I felt robbed. I can drive less than 9 miles away and buy a whole bottle for $25. My previous glass of wine that evening was an $8 chardonnay from another local winery. I figured the Pinot Gris couldn't be much more than the Chard, especially one from Pudding River, which I've personally visited so I know their bottle prices. So, before you buy anything at the Fireside Lounge, ask the price. Don't be surprised (aka robbed) as I was.

But it feels much more satisfying, rewarding and accomplishing as it obviously would by trying a beer from a brewery that I have been wanting to try... which leads us to one of my latest brewery experiences which is Silver Falls Brewery. Steve and I had one beer from this brewery and we liked it pretty well. We got the Oregon Sunshine Hazy IPA which was a better IPA drinking session than on previous occasions. In short it was a nice, refreshing one that hit the spot nicely. The elements in the flavors to look for are citrus, a juicy quality and a hoppiness presence. This IPA despite being a hazy also was bright in flavor as well as hue. A very refreshing IPA and I am so very glad I got to try a beer from Silver Falls Brewery!

For example, there aren't many places in Silverton where diners can order étouffée, gumbo or jambalaya. Well, look no further as one of SFB's "bowl" dishes rotates between these three Cajun favorites. In addition, the menu also offers a number of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options for guests looking for something to suit their dietary needs. What I love most about Silver Falls Brewery is the many seating options. The restuarant has balcony seating, as well as an outdoor courtyard with a fair number of tables. In addition, the interior dining room has several large family-style tables that can accomodate large groups. This establishment does a fair amount of business during the spring and summer months when tourist activity is heavy, yet they somehow manage to swiftly seat, serve, and care for guests without compromising on service. The drinks are great, service comes with a smile, and I'm here for supporting local businesses that always shine brightly.

That said, I wanted to share my experience in the hopes it's taken as constructive feedback. I brought my niece and her partner, who are visiting from Georgia, to this spot after a beautiful day at Silver Falls. We were hungry and looking forward to relaxing with some drinks and food. We initially sat at the 21+ section, but had to move since one of us forgot their ID. Totally understandable. Before heading downstairs, the employee asked to see my niece's ID. Since she's from out of state, they also asked to see her debit/credit card to verify her name. While I get the caution, it did feel a bit unusual--especially since we hadn't ordered yet. It made me wonder what would've happened if she only had cash. Downstairs, we were greeted by a new server who seemed... off. Not necessarily rude, but distant, as if they didn't want to be there or didn't really want to engage with us. We ordered drinks and food--drinks were great! But food took about 30-35 minutes, which we understood. What was odd was the service flow. Our server came back to ask if we were ready for the bill... but we hadn't gotten our food yet. Eventually, another employee brought our plates and asked if we needed anything else. We asked for forks, but they never came back. When I asked someone again, our original server casually mentioned that utensils were still being washed--no reassurance or clear follow-up. It just felt like, "Oh well." My niece ended up asking for plastic utensils, and instead we were handed wet metal forks. We dried them ourselves and ate. The server didn't check on us again until the very end, and by that point, we just wanted the check and to go. The food itself was really good--but overall, the atmosphere just didn't feel warm or welcoming. I truly hope this feedback helps. The place has potential, and I'd love to give it another try someday, but this visit left us with mixed feelings.

The long communal tables were a welcome sight - lots of space to meet up with lots of friends - as well as the tidy reading nooks and smaller tables for a more individualized experience. Upon arrival, there's a sign that says to check in at the counter for service - which I did and was promptly handed a menu and told to find a place to sit and she'd come find me to take my order. The place was not crowded by any means so I chose one location to sit, changed my mind and chose another location and then changed my mind and moved again before settling on one end of one of those long tables. So many seating choices!! The staff member got busy and didn't make it back to me for a bit longer than I thought she should have taken but when she eventually found me, I ordered one of their seasonal espresso drinks: a Harlequin Rex (white chocolate, dark chocolate & caramel), and a Maid Marion crepe (marionberry jam, cream cheese, crushed pistachios & honey). The crepe arrived well ahead of the espresso drink but I waited to take a bite of the crepe till they both were at the table because I wanted a pic of them together - you know, priorities and all. That crepe was absolutely delicious - the perfect combination of tastes! And that espresso drink - spot on! Chocolate and caramel - what could go wrong there? Absolutely nothing. On the day I was there, it seems a pop-up jewelry vendor was there as well (or maybe the jewelry is a permanent feature? I don't know.). There was no space at the counter to sign my debit card receipt so I used the seat of the stool next to the register area, which worked just fine, but maybe it would be possible to keep an area clear for conducting the business of paying, since table payment is not an option (little sign attached to the playing cards that indicated your table number said to go to the counter to settle up). Or perhaps hand the receipts attached to a small clipboard or hard surface of some kind to make signing easier. Just seemed a bit crowded and cluttered at the counter. Overall, I think they're a great addition to downtown Silverton and hope to go back again to try something else on their yummy-looking menu. After they're able to work out the kinks of being a new business (they've been open 4 months), I hope they'll be in Silverton for a long time. PS.
