"Do you want to leave?" Was the question she asked when we were first seated, I should have said "yes". Went here yesterday with my girlfriend. I had been before but this experience was much different. I got a bad vibe right away when there was no one to seat us, and customers appeared to be wandering around confused. When we were finally seated, our waitress took her sweet time getting our drinks and basically threw straws at us. I then started reading reviews, and quickly realized we were not the first to have to suffer this woman. While the food was good, our service was horrendous. We got no refills on coffee or water, and while it was obvious we had finished, the check took much longer than it should have. While it is unfortunate to give such a poor review on account of one employee, she completely soured our experience and I will not be going back to the gardenview diner. read more

Attempt to support local business thwarted by being absolutely ignored. We were told to pick somewhere to sit, sat down, and waited for menus. And waited. And waited. Our waitress was chatting at length elsewhere. After bringing drinks to a nearby table, said she'd be right with us. We waited some more, still no menus. As we got up to leave she approached with just her pad and pen - still no menus. No apologies for making us wait, just rolling her eyes, which completed our feeling that leaving was the right decision. read more

This review is for the Oswego Rd location in B'ville. Doesn't look like that is on Yelp to review separately. Met some friends at the Gardenview for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We sat down right away. I hate to give low grades to locally owned places, especially after what restaurants have been through, but the service here is terrible. Although it may have been our waitress as we saw many parties come and go before we ever received food. From the time we sat to when plates were out in front of us, it was over an hour. Home fries and hash browns were tasteless and the other dishes were unremarkable. My fretta was okay although I would like a little ham thrown in the mix. All said, poor service and ehh food means a return visit will not be forthcoming. read more

Starting on the high notes - a Greek woman who you just know could cook met us and poured the original coffee which was hot and delicious. When the food FINALLY ARRIVED (you know where this is going..) the portions were large and hot. The potatoes looked good; the place smelled like good breakfast. There clearly were regular customers there as our servers were chatting them up and eating their fries as we sat hungry, un-watered and without Splenda for 40 minutes AFTER we ordered. In a diner if most of the tables do NOT have food on them, there is a problem. The cook quit, the runners broke a leg or the servers aren't putting in the orders. Seriously, if you want to protect your tip, don't blame the customer for pointing out that we have been here for almost an HOUR and still don't have FOOD unless you are auditioning for Restaurant Impossible. Just calmly explain WTF happened and bring the food with a smile and an apology (EVEN IF IT WASN'T YOUR FAULT). The Greek woman at the entrance was not doing the cooking. My husband's tzatziki lacked dill, garlic or lemon and was suspiciously like mayo and sour cream. There was no feta in my feta/tomato/spinach omelette. The worst servers in Jersey diners would have run circles around Sunday's shift of posers. We don't plan on going back but if you do and aren't a regular, just bring your own server (and a snack) and ensure the Greek woman is cooking. read more

I can understand the appeal of cheap diners with several TV shows highlighting them, but the food quality should be better than what you'd get at a gas station. Clearly the microwave is their friend. Service is slow. I think they cater to the regulars, although I can't understand why someone would choose to come here on a regular basis. Maybe we ordered wrong for our dinner. My family and I went to Syracuse for the state fair for the first time. Our hotel did not include breakfast so we decided to venture out into the community. I'm so glad we did! The food at this diner was delicious. It was very crowded but we were seated right away and our food came hot, correct, and the portion sizes were fabulous. Our server was very attentive and we could not have been more pleased with our visit. I would highly recommend the Gardenview diner on your next trip to Syracuse. I know we will go next year when we go back to the state fair. read more

I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of diners in general. We went here once and ordered breakfast. I can't remember which one I ordered, pizza omelette or something similar?, but I do remember not really liking it. The place was busy and I felt like our waitress could careless that we were there. There does always seem like there are a lot of people there, mostly "old" people, so I guess they must have some fans... but I personally won't be going back. Been here a few times and it always seems like something goes wrong. On quite a few time I have been given dirty coffee cups. Maybe I'm a bit picky about this but to me it just shows a lack of I trees and yes I have washed my fair share of dishes in restaurants when I was younger. Last time I went it was a dirty coffee cup and a hair in my breakfast so that was about it for me. I wish this place would clean up their act and care more. I took a few bites of my breakfast and then found the hair. No one even stopped by to see how things were. Everyone else at the table finished their breakfast so I just gave up and went to the register. They did take my food off the bill but that doesn't really matter much to me So why 2 stars instead of one? They do have one guy that works there not sure of his name but he runs dishes and fills coffee he was always nice attentive and honestly is what the waitstaff should be. read more

Greasy, salty goodness. I had the breakfast wrap with eggs, potatoes, cheese and mushrooms. Shrooms were canned, which I enjoy. Homefries were good, but salty. Server was a little cranky until half way through the meal. Then she perked up. Either way she was attentive to all 7 of us including a baby, toddler, 4 adults and my elderly grandmother. All in all a good diner, but the "garden" needed a little more attention to be deserving of a view. Interior, well...it's a diner. Nothing special. read more

We have eaten breakfast here several times. This is the first time we have had a bad experience. Let me count the ways: 1. Waiting 10 minutes to get acknowledged at the door. Then a couple that was waiting to pay was asked if they needed to be seated. 2. My husband asked for coffee and ice water. I asked for hot tea with honey. No water. No honey. Asked again for honey. No honey. 3. Asked for a special bread they sell by the loaf. No bread. 4. My fork was dirty. Asked for a clean fork. No fork. 5. Never checked on. No coffee refill. Our experience here was mediocre at best. We were referred there by many people but when we finally got the chance to dine there we were a bit disappointed. We were never assigned nor introduced to an actual waitress. Our food was served fairly quickly, but that could have been due to the lack of people there early in the morning. We sat waiting for our check for quite sometime and were never asked how our meal was going, as I would have enjoyed the opportunity to ask for a glass of water. We go out for breakfast every Sunday and this diner has been our favorite! This morning was the first time we've been here for breakfast! We sat at the counter because it was packed. We are so glad we did! The inlets were amazing and hash and homfries were plentiful! We enjoyed watching the "family" work together...helping each other the whole time! Have always wanted to try this place so thought we would stop for a nice Saturday brunch. Food was fantastic but that's the only good thing I can say! Worst service ever!!! No one acknowledged us when we came in - after 5 minutes of waiting for someone to at least 'look' at us, I finally asked a passing server if we could take an empty booth. After another 10 minutes our server walked by with hands full and asked what we were drinking. We asked for a coffee and two waters. Quite sometime later the coffee arrived but no waters. She finally came to take our order but still no water. Several attempts to get a coffee refill went unnoticed. Never once were we asked if we needed anything. Hailing from Boston, being able to enjoy breakfast at a real diner is a treat. The Gardenview diner did not disappoint, with cheap and delicious breakfast. I enjoyed the apple-stuffed French Toast, which came in a huge portion (4 pieces) at a very reasonable price (about $6). The only downside to this diner I found was the service was mediocre. This is a great place any time of the day. We usually arrive for breakfast or lunch. No matter what we order the food is always delicious and generous portions. My complaint is with the servers. Even when the restaurant is not busy they hand us a menu and then let us sit 5-10 minutes before taking our order. When they do take our order it is done with what we call a 'snarky' attitude. We were waited on and served eventually but a family of four who arrived later than us was served and actially left before we were even served. Our waitress was a shorter middle aged woman with brown hair. She was completely MISERABLE and out of her mind. She was rude to us in her tone and behavior. I watched the people next to us have to get up more than once to get their own condiments. I saw two people get up and leave because they sat there for 10 minutes without getting acknowledged. We asked for our check and a to go box. She came back 10 minutes later and said would you like your check and to go box and acted like we never asked her before. When we cashed out she left our credit card on the register and rudley said you can take it now and we had to walk around the counter and take it off the register. We tried this diner with some trepidation. Reviews said it would be an o.k. diner with poor service. The reviews were wrong. A nice lady brought us a specials menu that spilled over with comfort food. The turkey was fresh as well as the chicken. I had the stuffed pork chops and all four of our Wednesday night crew enjoyed our meal. Homemade pie topped it off but we all glanced covetous looks at a neighbor who had ordered an amazing looking club sandwich. We are definitely coming back. My wife, son & I have eaten here several times. They do a good job all around. The breakfasts are better than the dinners. The coffee is decent- eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon,etc. always very good. If you aren't a regular try to be very nice & patient with the staff and they will warm up to you. The prices are great and the food isn't bad.
