I have been going to Gardeners Wharf for years, and I love the clear chowder. However, something has happened there. It's like there are a bunch of teenagers back there with no direction or leadership to tell them how to play restaurant. It's sad, and something needs to change. I ordered 2 cups of clear chowder, that's it. It took forever. Another couple there had been waiting longer than us for 2 bisques and 6 clam cakes, it took like 30 minutes, that's insane, it wasn't busy, there's no plausible excuse for this. The kids at the counter were nice, but it doesn't really make up for their inexperience and awareness that the chowder was premade and right there the whole god dam time... I was in town for the night and so I went two times. First for some shucked oysters and a lobster roll which we gobbled up right there at one of the outside tables. I came back the next day to get some smoked blue fish to take home for later. Service was outstanding. The seafood is fresh and they have to go foods that you can feast on while you watch the boats come and go in the harbor. It's a family run shop and the owner Kevin has lots of respect for his employees who he says have worked for him for years. Very lucky. read more

This seafood market's parking lot was adjacent to the house we rented for a week in Wickford (North Kingstown), RI during mid-August, 2025. Much of the surrounding neighborhood is historic, having been built throughout the 1700's. The market sells local seafood, both fish and shellfish. It also has an extensive takeout (or eat right outside the market by the adjacent port) menu of prepared foods. We ate several lobster rolls and bisque during our stay. The bisque was loaded with lobster and could be a meal all on its own. Of the several lobster offerings, the bisque was probably the best value, which was about $7.99 plus tax for a cup (probably about a half-pint) and $15.99 for a bowl (twice as much). While the week we were there the live lobster tank, with small to big, depending on the day's catch, were consistently $17.99 a pound, which seemed expensive, given the locale, when I purchased a two-pounder a week later at my local NJ ShopRite for $9.99 a pound. Some of the lobster rolls we had, generally with butter, were better than others. I guess it depended on who was in the kitchen choosing the pieces of lobster. When at their best though, theses lobster rolls were among the tastiest anywhere I've had them, including in Cape Cod and Maine. Served with French fries these were nearly $36 when including the local tax. So, not really cheap. Besides people eating at the few tables outside their market, we noticed people also sat on the few benches by the bay (and port) that surrounds their parking lot. All in all this was very convenient place to have right next door to our rental house. read more

Came to this restaurant at the recommendation of a local and, as predicted, was highly satisfied with the meal! The clam chowder was fresh, tasty and perfect on a chilly March day. The cod fish sandwich also tasted amazing and fresh!! The seafood shack offers both options for purchasing food to cook at your own home, as well as having it prepared for you in the moment. We decided to eat at the restaurant and sat outside, enjoying the quiet wharf views. Highly recommend this place though, if eating there, be aware that the service is a bit slow! read more

Born and raised in Rhode Island, I have had a LOT of lobster rolls. This was by far the worst I've ever had. I love Gardner's Wharf Seafood. I live a few miles away from this place and have gone there for seafood many times in my life. I ordered a lobster salad roll. 1) It took a very long time for a simple lobster salad roll. The bun wasn't even heated or toasted (as a lobster roll should be). 2) It was a pathetic amount of meat. For $33 after tax, a lobster roll should be mostly lobster. This one was 2/3 cold, less than fresh bread. 3) The meat was not fresh. This lobster had no flavor. Lobster should be sweet and tender. This tasted like it was previously frozen bulk lobster shipped from China, and it probably was. Really disappointed. read more

I love this place. It brought tears to my eyes seeing all the clams, oysters, lobster, smoked blue fish, stuffed clams, crab cakes, (sniff, sniff, excuse me). I'm a lapsed coastal New Englander. Back East, visiting family, I always look for seafood on the pier and this place wins the award for '2022! West Passage oysters are as fresh as the come, 2 dozen were gone in a flash. Leave the blue points alone, they've traveled more than 10 miles . Cherrystones for clam linguine? Yup! Smoked bluefish, get it!!! Quahogs for chowder? On the stove. Waited over 20 minutes for a lobster grilled cheese. Watched as other people behind me in line were getting their orders before me. Repeatedly asked them on estimate of time and kept getting, "it'll be ready in a couple of minutes"... then it was 20 minutes later. Very slow service and unprofessional. The whole reason my family went was for shelled clams and their shucker wasn't there! Then we ordered fish and chips and Fried calamari. After an hour wait they told us they gave it to someone else by mistake! Then when we finally got the food there was barely any fries! I decided to treat a friend and myself to lobster rolls tonight. Called in the order and asked what the market price was for them. Guy said around $31. I thought it was high but decided to splurge. The hot lobster roll comes with fries but I asked for coleslaw also, which would be an extra charge he said. Ok. When I go in to pay the charge is $82.44 . They are so busy I don't even pay any attention until I get home and then discover they have omitted the coleslaw, which he later tells me comes with the lobster roll; they just omitted it! How is the bill $82.44, I ask myself ? This has got to be an error. When I call, the same guy who took the order, answers and couldn't break down the charges for me. Literally could not. He said that because I used a credit card there was an extra fee and ASSURED me the charge was correct! He could not tell me the actual cost of the hot lobster roll and how my bill got to $82.44. I have never felt so screwed. Lived here for 40+ years, shopped there more times than I can count and it will be a long time before I go back and/or encourage anyone I know to! I have gotten seafood here over the years, all good, but today I had the clam cakes, with no clam in them. Wish I had read the reviews that said "needs clam in clam fritters." I was a customer at Gardners Wharf since the doors were opened! Key word "was" new owner/management seems to like to hire really bad employees. or family members they cannot fire! Last couple of time I tried order basic things like fish and chips was an unbelievable event I at one point thought it was a gag and wondered where the cameras were. I called in an order drove 20 minutes and sat there for an hour for 2 orders of fish and chips. I asked for it twice and was told my order just wasn't up yet??? Though I watched no less than several people walk in make the same 2 F&C order and leave with them while I was still waiting? Then the person who took my order admitted my order was never sent to the kitchen "my bad" possibly owner's (daughter/nice) she said handed me my order. Got it home and it was all greasy oily uncooked mess they're effort to rush my order! I actually went back month or two later figuring maybe they are working out the kinks. Wrong! things were worse to the point where I have taken to write about my bad experience as it is the only real way to get justice for ignorant jerks who should NOT BE SERVING FOOD! When I see a so called chef huff and puff because a customer doesn't want a cold product from the show case but the hot take out meal! I wouldn't trust food from a chef like that if he is not happy about preparing it fresh! Besides why would I bother to buy a cold take out meal I had to take home and cook/heat myself when I can get it hot and why I was there! Off the beaten path in this little pocket like the surprise you find in your crackerjack box. If you find yourself exploring quaint Wickford make it a point to seek out this little beauty. They serve hot food on weekends. There's an intimate 1/2 moon beach w stonewall replete with beach roses, seagulls, benches, and a gorgeous view. The grounds are really pretty and well tended to. Because I don't care for mayonnaise, & I'm a CT native, we've been hard-pressed to find our preferred hot buttered lobster roll in these parts. But, their lobster roll was huge, full of chunky fresh succulent sweet lobster with an itsy bitsy bit of mayo, chopped celery, shredded lettuce on a grilled buttery hotdog roll. Exceptional. The squingilli salad bathed in a garlicky vinegary dressing was delicious too. The interior shop is modern, IMMACULATE, well presented, & zero scent of seafood but of salty fresh air. Average local prices for fresh lobster, scallops, clams, steamers, a variety of stuffies (quohaugs), fresh and smoked fish, corn on the cob, some retail like breadcrumbs, rice, sauces etc. Really friendly knowledgeable staff. I stopped by the pop up tent/food stand that primarily sells chowder/clam cake/lobster rolls outside this little seafood shop. To be fair I didn't go inside as I had a slightly impatient kiddo with me. I will tell you that this is the best lobster roll I have had so far this season! Incredibly fresh and made to order - LOADED! It was $18 but fair price for the abundant, well-balanced ration of claw, knuckle and tail meat. Just the right amount of mayo, little celery and sprinkling of shredded lettuce on a crispy, buttery (not too greasy) grilled hot dog roll. I went at the end of the day about 5pm and I could see the clamcakes were dark in color which is a sign of a busy day of frying up orders but also a sign for me that they would be too overdone tasting to my liking. The guys manning the tent were as friendly as could be. I can't wait to go back for another roll and try some chowder! read more

The absolute best lobster roll I've ever had! This is a small and unassuming seafood market at the top of the quaint village of Wickford. The inside is a bustling seafood market with awesome looking offerings like stuffies and insanely fresh oysters, steamers, and quahogs. The hot food menu is plentiful and the service prompt and efficient. My husband and I each had a cup of the New England clam chowder and a Connecticut style lobster roll. It was a lot of food! The lobster rolls come with fries, and the brioche buns were huge and grilled to perfection! The lobster meat was plucked directly from the shell and put on the rolls. There are only a handful of tables out in front of the building (it is a market and not so much a restaurant), but plenty of folks brought beach chairs and sat on the nearby grass or bit of beach nearby. On a warm August afternoon, it is an unbeatable place!! read more

I had mixed feelings about this place, which I visited during a busy time (the day before Christmas Eve, when many people serve seafood). My wife tasked me with buying scallops and steamers, and I came here because I chose to do my errands in North Kingstown, instead of Warwick. Their parking lot is small, and was full, so I parked at the adjacent town dock lot. It's not a big building, and selection was not as varied as I'd expect from a dedicated seafood store, but they had the basics. I will say the store did not have even a hint of fishy smell, so that's a good indicator that everything is fresh. On the negative side, I saw two problems. First, they really need to work on their product price signs. I nearly walked out when I saw a sign stating scallops were $37! Instead, the price for ocean scallops was $22, but the sign had fallen off the display case. The signs should be closer to the actual product, and inside the case, instead of outside the case, where it's harder to tell which sign corresponds to which tray of product. Also, they would benefit greatly from a customer number dispenser, like supermarket delis have. A couple of customers cut me in line. Another reviewer, who gave this place 2 stars, opined their prices are high, and I would agree. Ocean scallops that were $22 a pound here, I saw at Stop & Shop for around $13 a pound. I do believe the scallops from here are probably fresher than Stop & Shops, but is it worth a $10 per pound premium? The prepared food that we had, two lobster rolls with "fries", was inedible and we threw them out. I personally can't imagine an easier meal to prepare.
