West Passage and Beavertail oysters on the half shell
    Elizabeth S.

I was in town for the night and so I went two times. First for some shucked oysters and a lobster roll which we gobbled up right there at one of the outside tables. I came back the next day to get some smoked blue fish to take home for later. Service was outstanding. The seafood is fresh and they have to go foods that you can feast on while you watch the boats come and go in the harbor. It's a family run shop and the owner Kevin has lots of respect for his employees who he says have worked for him for years. Very lucky.

This seafood market's parking lot was adjacent to the house we rented for a week in Wickford (North Kingstown), RI during mid-August, 2025. Much of the surrounding neighborhood is historic, having been built throughout the 1700's. The market sells local seafood, both fish and shellfish. It also has an extensive takeout (or eat right outside the market by the adjacent port) menu of prepared foods. We ate several lobster rolls and bisque during our stay. The bisque was loaded with lobster and could be a meal all on its own. Of the several lobster offerings, the bisque was probably the best value, which was about $7.99 plus tax for a cup (probably about a half-pint) and $15.99 for a bowl (twice as much). While the week we were there the live lobster tank, with small to big, depending on the day's catch, were consistently $17.99 a pound, which seemed expensive, given the locale, when I purchased a two-pounder a week later at my local NJ ShopRite for $9.99 a pound. Some of the lobster rolls we had, generally with butter, were better than others. I guess it depended on who was in the kitchen choosing the pieces of lobster. When at their best though, theses lobster rolls were among the tastiest anywhere I've had them, including in Cape Cod and Maine. Served with French fries these were nearly $36 when including the local tax. So, not really cheap. Besides people eating at the few tables outside their market, we noticed people also sat on the few benches by the bay (and port) that surrounds their parking lot. All in all this was very convenient place to have right next door to our rental house.

Came to this restaurant at the recommendation of a local and, as predicted, was highly satisfied with the meal! The clam chowder was fresh, tasty and perfect on a chilly March day. The cod fish sandwich also tasted amazing and fresh!! The seafood shack offers both options for purchasing food to cook at your own home, as well as having it prepared for you in the moment. We decided to eat at the restaurant and sat outside, enjoying the quiet wharf views. Highly recommend this place though, if eating there, be aware that the service is a bit slow!

Why is half the sandwich missing lobster?

Born and raised in Rhode Island, I have had a LOT of lobster rolls. This was by far the worst I've ever had. I love Gardner's Wharf Seafood. I live a few miles away from this place and have gone there for seafood many times in my life. I ordered a lobster salad roll. 1) It took a very long time for a simple lobster salad roll. The bun wasn't even heated or toasted (as a lobster roll should be). 2) It was a pathetic amount of meat. For $33 after tax, a lobster roll should be mostly lobster. This one was 2/3 cold, less than fresh bread. 3) The meat was not fresh. This lobster had no flavor. Lobster should be sweet and tender. This tasted like it was previously frozen bulk lobster shipped from China, and it probably was. Really disappointed.

Walked by this place so many times and finally decided to pop in today for clam cakes and chowder. Chowder was flavorful and the clam-cakes were almost perfect but could've used more clams in my opinion. Lots of outdoor seating. Would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the water views.

Incredibly fresh seafood at a great price. Shrimp, scallops, lobster, stuffies, crab cakes, and several different fish filets. The white chowder was the best. The Shrimp was exceptional. You order and pay inside then wait at a picnic table outside along the edge of the marina. They bring out your food with everything you need and you can eat there or take it home.

    The view.

I love this place. It brought tears to my eyes seeing all the clams, oysters, lobster, smoked blue fish, stuffed clams, crab cakes, (sniff, sniff, excuse me). I'm a lapsed coastal New Englander. Back East, visiting family, I always look for seafood on the pier and this place wins the award for '2022! West Passage oysters are as fresh as the come, 2 dozen were gone in a flash. Leave the blue points alone, they've traveled more than 10 miles . Cherrystones for clam linguine? Yup! Smoked bluefish, get it!!! Quahogs for chowder? On the stove. Need lunch, they've got tables out back with umbrellas and great view of the bay. So fresh, great prices. I may have to visit my sister more often.

Lobster grilled cheese with fries, $23.99 + tax, waaayy overcooked
    Nikki C.

Waited over 20 minutes for a lobster grilled cheese. Watched as other people behind me in line were getting their orders before me. Repeatedly asked them on estimate of time and kept getting, "it'll be ready in a couple of minutes"... then it was 20 minutes later. Very slow service and unprofessional. Also everything was extremely overpriced. Lobster tasted over cooked and not at all worth the wait. Don't go here!!!

Cute seafood market overlooking Wickford Cove at the end of Main Street. Inside, they offer a to-go menu plus ALL the seafood -- lobsters, local oysters, cooked & uncooked shrimp, good ole' Rhode Island stuffies, smoked salmon, smoked bluefish, seafood salads and more. We grabbed cooked shrimp and raw oysters to go. They allow eight people inside at a time due to Covid rules. You'll need to ask for help with the lobsters, but you can grab some plastic gloves to use when choosing your oysters from a variety of local ones. Blue floor mats designate where to stand for social distancing. Friendly staff. Small parking lot, but you can park on other side and walk over. Cute harbor views near busy marina.

Wickford on the Water has a prime spot with water views from their deck and side windows. In summer this place if full most days due to it's location. Recently we stopped in for lunch. The street side of the building is a dining room, while the water side is a bar area with bar seating and high top tables. Single men's and women's rooms are in the hallway connecting the two spaces. Wait to be seated by the hostess. On our visit, the hostess sent us down the hall to 'see Angelo' in the bar as the dining room was full. Angelo let us pick a table and brought menus. We placed our drink order and spent a good deal of time looking over the menu. Angelo was patient and gave us plenty of time to decide. Their website has options for ordering pick-up or delivery through door dash where you can view those menu options, but not 'just the menu' as a stand alone page to preview. It was a sunny, cold day and I decided on the short rib shepherds pie and a side salad. The salad arrived first. It was very lightly dressed with fresh lettuce and brittle croutons. The shepherds pie arrived in a casserole, hot from the oven with cheese melted over the potatoes. My first bite was potatoes. They were tasty enough with the melted cheese on top. No need for salt or other seasonings. My second bite had a mere hint of meat in an oily sauce under all those potatoes. After eating a quarter of the dish and finding very little short rib, I began to move the potato out of the way to access the meat. This revealed an inconsistent, thin film of meat at the bottom of the bowl. I do love potatoes, and these were tasty, however, for that price, I expect more protein. The restaurant was quiet during our visit. They have a nice mix of relaxing, current music playing in the background. The restaurant and restroom were clean. Deck dining and bar, in warmer weather, is a nice option and the menu offers a variety of food choices from apps to entrees. Staff are competent. Parking is on-street and in the local public lot nearby.

Roy Boy's Clam Shack - 6710 Post Rd, Kingstown, RI…read more After spending the afternoon at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown, my wife and I were on the hunt for a new spot to eat nearby. She came across Roy Boy's Clam Shack, just a short 30-minute drive away, and we decided to give it a try. We were happy to see there wasn't much of a line when we arrived. My wife already had her eye on dessert--ice cream--before we even ordered dinner. She's been a lobster roll connoisseur for nearly 20 years, so of course, she went straight for the lobster roll. We also shared a large clam chowder, which was excellent--loaded with clams, not overloaded with potatoes, creamy but not too heavy. Now, the lobster roll. Photos don't do it justice. It was huge, packed with massive claw meat, lightly dressed with mayo--just the way she likes it. She gave it a solid 8/10! I went with the whole belly clams with fries and slaw. The coleslaw was creamy and tasty, the clams fried to perfection--crispy golden brown, tender inside, not greasy at all. Fries were just okay, but the clams were the real star. The tartar sauce was excellent, too. The vibe is super casual--roadside shack with plenty of outdoor seating. No frills, but the food makes up for it. The staff, mostly younger kids, were all very friendly and welcoming. To finish things off, my wife popped next door for dessert: a vanilla soft-serve dipped in chocolate, one of her childhood favorites. We'll definitely be back--next time to try the hot buttered lobster roll.
