Shopping at Dave's is a pleasure...from the quality of the produce, the deliciousness of the prepared foods, the friendliness of the staff and the nicely organized store shelves to their commitment to helping out the communities around. I love checking out their weekly specials and get stuff from the sales circular. Regular prices are usually higher than similar grocery stores but items on sale usually are really good buys. We love their pizzas and prepared sandwiches....outstanding....good size portions at grocery store prices...a great deal. The food and service is similar to any other Dave's Market however the manager that owns this facility sent the police to harass an elderly man who was walking in the parking lot to get some exercise. He did this to avoid walking on the side of the street where he could possibly be struck by a car. The owner of this Dave's Market in North Kingstown could have simply asked the police to inform him not to be on the property during non-business hours. But instead took it to the extreme and told the man he was barred from ever coming into the store again. This is absolutely disgusting. The person who owns this Dave's Market should be ashamed of himself. Back in the day we had respect for our elders and we treated them with respect. What a difference a year makes! We loved the thanksgiving 'Great Gobbler' last year for an easy thanksgiving meal. This year the entire meal was a disappointment. The turkey was tasteless and had the texture of rubber. The stuffing was beyond soggy, the mashed potatoes runny, and the cranberry sauce likely came out of a can. Apparently, my first experience was not entirely reliable for future visits. The next time I returned to Narragansett and called Dave's, I was told they would not make lobster salad to order, but I should go to the deli counter and inquire. When I did, I was told that all of the lobster salad had been used to make sandwiches, which were available at the cooler. Finding that all of the sandwiches were sold out already, I asked if they would make lobster salad to order for the next day. They told me "no" because that lobster salad was also reserved for their sandwiches. An odd answer since they could have just made what they needed, and what I needed to. read more

I'm a long time local and frequent Dave's on occasion. Best Pizza around. Great service, convenient deli, massive produce section must cost them a fortune to maintain. I've always liked the homey and friendly feel of shopping there. Recently I witnessed a manager dress down an older employee in the pizza area. I felt for the employee. It felt like bullying. A younger employee attempted to stick up for him and got an "in my office" response. It caused a scene. Later I found out the manager is new to the store and not well liked. I'm hoping the "powers that be" will see this review and address this new situation. Perhaps some training. Not a good look for Dave's. read more

Really nice local supermarket. I make a point to stop here when I am in the area. They have a number of hard to find products including some of the more unusual varieties of Ritter Sport chocolate bars, Sonoma Parmesan Crisps, and more unusual varieties of Chobani such as the Greek yogurt + pineapple one. They also carry Ithaca hummus, which is amazing. If you have not had it, get it, it will change hummus for you forever. Prices are a bit higher than your typical grocery, and definitely higher than Market Basket. However, the selection is great. Cheese selection is pricey but on point. They also sell some nice prepared meals. I got a mozzarella and basil salad here on my last visit that was great. Store is very clean and easy to navigate. I've rarely run into a line. Easy lot parking. If you're in the area- it's definitely worth a stop. read more

My experience at the North Kingstown Quonsett store happened some time ago. I'll start by saying the store does have a nice selection, is clean, has good sales and good free coffee. Many of the employees are respectful, helpful and kind. But ever since those two disturbing experiences at the NK Quonsett store, I've never been back. Twice, while at the seafood counter, I encountered a very disrespectful, rude,surly man. This man thought eye rolls, smirks, and sarcasm were appropriate responses to what I believe were valid questions regarding the different salmon they had. ( It wasn't personal, I was not being rude, but just asking questions) I was shocked at his response so I asked... why are you rolling your eyes at me?...which he denied as he continued to smirk. At this point, I turned and sought assistance of the manager who helped me by getting the fish himself. All good...Until several weeks later I returned to the seafood counter and didn't notice at first who was serving. The gentleman before me was served politely and then it was my turn. He saw me, but Instead of greeting me, the seafood man started removing all the signs and tags on the fish. When he finally looked up he declared "Are you all set?" Well sir, if I'm standing there, I guess I'm not? At this point I recognized him and weighed whether I should just walk away as I was in no mood for a repeat of the last encounter. But I needed to buy dinner and I had little time to go elsewhere. So, I remarked it was now hard to tell one item from another since all the signs were removed. He laughed and said "What do you want?" I decided to leave and found the same manager who didn't seem to want to deal with him. I asked for the store owner's contact info. but I never was able to reach them. I did finally connect with/ someone in the main office, but felt like the encounter I had was minimized and I was being brushed off, so I vowed I'd never return. I guess my business is not valued. Dave's is the best market around. The fresh vegetables/fruit section is top notch, and you can find even the weirdest ingredients (think golden beets, fresh tarragon, etc.). It even looks beautiful. The prepared foods are just wonderful, the seafood section is really good and the free coffee, well let's just say, who doesn't like free coffee? The only thing is the regular grocery store part, could be more affordable (dairy, frozen foods, paper goods, etc.). But hey, it's a wonderful store and the employees are super nice. We bought salmon from the seafood area and the worker couldn't have been nicer. He trimmed the fish and even gave us a little extra when his measurements were off. Super good. A fresh marketplace Dave's Marketplace is a group of 6 or 7 locally owned grocery stores that are scattered throughout Rhode Island. The stores vary quite a bit in size and looks but I tend to think of all of them as hybrids; sort of a cross between a huge Stop & Shop and a more expensive Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. The particular store might be the largest of the bunch and perhaps the oldest. It has a all the usually grocery stuff as well as a salad bar, hot food bar, sandwiches. various home made soups and even free coffee. That's one of the cool things about all the Dave's, all the stores have things that you can grab and run with. So if you are going out on an adventure you can stop here and know you can find something to eat on the way. You can even order a pizza and they will have it made and ready to devour when you arrive. The product section is especially nice with lots of organic and unusual veggies and fruits. Overall the prices probably can't compare to the giant chain markets but you can always find stuff on sale and cool specialty things that aren't available at the omnipotence Stop & Shop or Shaw's. The store can get pretty crowded a times, complete with screaming, hyper active kids and comatose, immobile older people but the wide aisles make navigating around such hazards relatively easy. I have heard other people complain that this store looks old and dingy on the inside. It does look kind of old but at least it's clean and usually well stocked. I prefer to think of the looks as unique or archaic rather than old. They have signs all over the store that state Dave's is the "fresh" market. I buy most of my fresh seafood at this Tower Hill Dave's and -- unlike other Dave's locations (let alone other nearby groceries) -- this one always has a nice variety of seasonal WHOLE fish. Red snapper, scup, squid, whiting, smelt, mackerel, trout, branzini, sea bass, soft shell blue crab -- once even a whole monkfish! If you're into snapping fresh whole fish, this -- and only this -- Dave's is the place to go. Of course, you can also get live lobster, clams, steamers, oysters, and mussels here as well as prepared seafoods like stuffies, stuffed crabs. cooked shrimps, scungilli, etc. And don't be shy about asking the seafood managers to clean the fish for you! Dave your potato chips where some of the best I had. I have four large bags on my counter after one week getting soggy chips. Figured the chip maker was sick that week and new person has no idea. Tried again a week later. Same thing. Brought it up to staff but I thought I would wait another week and hopefully the master would return. Nothing has changed. I have wasted money on 6 bags. Rhode Island might be the tiniest state in the US, but we have one thing here that no one else has, and that's Dave's Marketplace. It's a small local chain of fantastic supermarkets - think Whole Foods with more soul and less corporate cash grab - and I would highly recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in need of high quality groceries in the RI area (or New England, it's totally worth the drive!) They have a great selection of products, including some harder to find vegan / vegetarian items that bigger chains wouldn't normally carry. They also sell locally made Rhode Island delicacies, like the creamy burrata cheese from Narragansett Creamery. The prepared foods / deli section is remarkable, and chock full of awesome finds, like flavorful and smoky grilled veggies, tender eggplant parmesan, and more creative items like bruschetta chicken cutlets. While Dave's is a bit pricier than say Shaw's or Stop & Shop, the attention to detail, wide and unique product range, and great feeling of shopping small and supporting an RI-based business is definitely more than worth a trip to this wonderful market. read more

I really like this place. Brian was spot-on when he described Dave's as a cross between Stop n' Shop and Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Dave's is great! They have a wonderful selection of produce and meats. If you need something that Stop N Shop does not sell, you can usually get it at Dave's. They sell standard items that most grocery stores sell, but they are more expensive at Dave's. I dislike Whole Foods because it is snobfest every time I go into one. Dave's is not like that. Just a lot of local people who like quality groceries. You can totally go in wearing sweats and slippers, no one would bat an eye! What I really love about Dave's is the prepared foods. I love Dave's Markets - and having been to several I think this one is the best. When we need special stuff for a holiday meal or whatever, Dave's is where we go. Yes, it's more expensive than Stop & Shop or those other chains, but there's no comparison regarding the quality and variety of foods. I like this a lot more than Whole Foods, too, as Dave's isn't the pretentious wallet draining corporate beast that Whole Foods is. And Dave's has free coffee while you shop! The main draws for Dave's are their fantastic seafood and meat departments. The seafood department is mind-blowing as far as selection and freshness. The meats are also superior to regular supermarkets. I literally feel like a kid in a candy store when I go there. Produce is another area where they excel. Freshness, selection, again superb. I don't get 'ordinary' items here that I can get at the chains since the price is higher, but if you want something better or special, this is as good as it gets around here. read more

Yeah, I'm a fan of the bigger specialty grocers, but I particularly like these types that are local. Not sure if this stuff is local, but if it is, what a great spot. 4 stars because prices matter nowdays, but I'm pleased that there's something better in Rhody than Stop n' Shop. Look forward to a return trip to try more fresh stuff. Service was above average too. I'm was walking in half-dead after having ran a 10 miler, but was offered help by no less than 3 folks. Dave's is relatively small in comparison to other grocery stores...but it is packed with goodies. The shelves are just overflowing with all types of exotic and basic items..you simply don't know where to begin. Now the only reason I was here was because I didn't feel like going out to eat and was told that they had a great buffet style serving area in the back...which was totally cool. Ending up getting some ribs, chicken wings, and orange chicken...all of which were pretty damn good. They had salads and all the fixins available but I wasn't feeling greens that day. Dave's customer service @ Wickford location leaves me mystified. Had and issue with an overcharge from their sister store in Quonset. Customer service manager at Wickford said that I should call the other store to fix the problem. How about maybe He should call the other store as a courtesy.... but no... I had to drive back to the Quonset location myself for a refund for all of $2.50. Not a Kings ransom, but I do work for my money and every buck means something to me. Ok, so about Dave's. Yes they are conveniently located, but that's about it. I understand you want to have fun at work but there is a limit. A customer should not hear complaining about other employees or the store as a whole. And I'm sure they are not being paid to gossip! I have witnessed this and have seen managers just walk by and do nothing and I understand why, this is because it starts at the top! When so called corp big wigs go into the stores to review and see how things are going, they are doing the exact same thing with talking to each other and with other employees about things other than work! They are setting the president. Today I have experienced such a thing with floor employee and an outside vendor. I reported the incident to the manager and he did all he could. People, there are other stores where customers mean something, Dave's is not that store! Employees talk to customers any way they feel and nothing happens! Went in for prepared food for lunch. The hot bar looked awful and unappetizing. Fish was dry,, veggies were dry and brown. Everything looked old, not edible. I've been to several of the stores but this review will be primarily about the Tower Hill market. In any store, every female cashier under 20 is rude. Today's visit was no different. I went to put a container of chicken and couscous on the belt and the cover came off. Some of the couscous spilled. The cashier was finishing up with the person ahead of me. I tried to put the cover back on but it kept popping open. She didn't say a word. Not "Let me get that", not "I'll help", and did nothing further. She saw me as I gathered the spilled good. She didn't offer anything to put it in so I put it in the hand basket. An adult would have put an elastic around the container so it wouldn't open again, like adults do. But no. She got out her roll of paper towel and cleared the belt. She didn't offer any to me so I had to beg. After paying she left the bag of my groceries attached and next to her, rather than spinning it around so it was close to ME or better yet putting it on top. I put the used paper towel I used to wipe my oily hands in the hand basket and left it eith the bags for her. Not one word. I hope she wasn't holding her breath waiting for me to fo her job fir her and do something with the basket. Did she have a sense of entitlement? Did she resent that working was taking her away from a lipstick party? I'll stick closer to home in the future with the predictably rude cashiers. Or maybe I'll just not go back again. Lots of stores around. For these prices you'd expect the service you get at Whole Foods. read more

This review is for the catering that was provided to an event I attended. This was amazing catered food and was served expertly by a well run staff. It was clear they communicate well and take pride in what they are doing. The food was fantastic and fresh and flavorful I was impressed by the presentation as well as the quality. I wish I knew about Dave's catering... Would have saved myself a lot of trouble. The produce, meat and customer service departments are all top notch. The only fruits and veggies that go into my family's mouths come from daves. A complimentary coffee while your shopping is a nice touch. But the best thing about daves is their pizza. It generally takes an act of god for my family to not get a daves pizza on Friday night. A whole pizza feeds my family for $15 and there's always a slice or two left for lunch (or breakfast). IMHO, it's the best value and best taste for pizza in the EG/NK area. read more
