Their clam chowder was really good, the filet I got was alright - did not help that I ordered medium rare and it came back medium. To be fair to the restaurant I did not complain as it was late, I had been traveling all day, and just needed the food no matter the temperature. We went to Garfinkel's for the first time in September 2022. The location is incredible with a spectacular view of the mountains. Unfortunately, the ambiance was quickly wasted with the poor service. After waiting at least 15 minutes just to be acknowledged and order drinks, it was another 15 minutes or so to get the drinks. At this point, we wrote off the possibility of an enjoyable dinner, paid our tab for the drinks and went elsewhere. Fast forward to September 2023. We're back in Vail, awesome weather, let's give Garfinkel's another shot. Once again, it took longer than expected to get drinks considering how slow it was. We did order food and it was good run-of-the-mill bar food but we got the wrong side - ordered cucumber salad and got cole slaw. We told the server right away and she said it was on the way, but it never came by the time we finished our meal. At that point, we once again wrote off the evening and went down the road. Our server appeared to be doing her best, but the management of this place is subpar at best. Garfinkel's treats their customers like they should feel lucky to be there with zero appreciation for your business. There are so many other great places to eat and drink in Vail, I recommend making Garfinkel's your absolute last resort. read more

The food is cheap and really good! That's about where it ends. Consider treating all your patrons equally. My partner and I went to eat here and our server (tan man with a beard, didn't care about us enough to give us his name) treated everyone else around us with more respect and attentiveness then he did with us. My partner asked for ranch right when we got our food and didn't receive it until we had just about finished our food. He went around refilling waters and talking to other tables but consistently passed us over. He barely even gave us a second glance when we paid. To be quite honest he didn't deserve even one cent or a tip but my partner is the nice one and convinced me that we should still leave a tip. I'd maybe give leniency if the restaurant had been busy at the time, but it wasn't. Every other table got smiles and laughs, the people who sat down right next to us with the same waiter got offered specials and beers.... To the owners of the restaurant, consider hiring waiters that treat their tables equally and withhold their personal beliefs while in the workplace. Easily would've been a top notch lunch if we hadn't encountered that kind of silent homophobia. I'll make sure to let my friends and family know. read more

I was nicely surprised by this restaurant. Being used to eating on the slopes, this was a far cry from paying an arm and leg for a simple meal. Service here is great. Yes, it can get crowded, for good reason, and they allowed us to move inside once it cleared up. We ordered a local beer ($5), Reuben (with fries), French Dip Sandwich (with mashed potatoes and gravy), sides were included in the meal. The entrees cost about $11 per, which is amazing considering a sandwich alone up on the slopes run almost $20. The reuben and fries were good, has good flavors, fries were perfect texture and salted just right. The prime rib in the French dip was a bit burnt, probably from the ends of prime rib they serve for dinner, but the au jus was just what it needed. Super flavorful, and the bread soaked up every last bit. The mashed potatoes were also really silky and they gravy was a great accompaniment to it. Considering the location right at the base, and the convenience, the price and staff, this place is a great find. read more

Garfinkel's doesn't seem to have any down time. From what I hear, it's always packed. My friend and I stopped in on a Thursday to have a drink and lucked up on the only two open seats in the entire place when two people left from the bar. The bar was a bit untidy, but as soon as we sat down, a bartender came to clean around the area. I'm a Coors Light kinda girl when I'm having beer, and they had it on tap and in a bottle. While enjoying my beer, I couldn't help but to notice the energy around the room. It's definitely an energetic type of place. I'd return. read more

My waiter J or Jay I am not sure what his exact name was but he was extremely rude to my children making false and intentional accusations. He deliberately did not put there order in and basically made them wait until we were all done eating to retrieve there food. Truly is a shame how he could have acted so hatefully. I go to Lionshead every year and this is the first time I have had an experience like this.My son who is 21 and did not have his ID on him which is understandable why an establishment would not serve him but my Nephew who is visiting from Brazil had his real Brazilian ID in his wallet because he does not carry his passport while skiing. While this long time Vail Lion's Head Bar & Restaurant still has the best out-door view of the mountain and the bar food is a step above, the front of house management sucks. Confronted at the door by a middle-aged man who wanted to argue COVID protocol while seated at the table, we almost told him to go F**K himself. Totally soured the experience and the owners need to take notice as there are plenty of welcoming establishment at this resort. As a business owner and employer, I would be horrified if I saw that as a response from a manager. They would be fired on the spot for that immature and emotional response. There were tables packed with 6 people sitting 2 feet from each other, and the management saw that was acceptable, but would not let us add two people facing away from other tables. The wait staff is friendly, but not too keen on stopping at your table unless you clearly have empty dishes staring them in the face as they walk by. My husband and I stopped in for an appetizer and a few cocktails. We ordered a chips & dip appetizer which was tasty if you like dip from prepackaged bags. The cocktails were definitely nothing special and pretty overpriced for how they tasted. The restaurant was family oriented with plenty of booths and tables for larger groups. My husband thought it was the best french dip in years. My tomato soup was awesome and full of fresh basil. My harvest salad was good but I'd prefer apples or jicama for a freshness and crunch. The apricots are redundant with the dried cranberries, raisins and yummy figs. Our neighbors had the french dip and the southwest chicken salad. She said it was delicious. It was a large, full, juicy chicken breast atop mixed greens with cheese, sour cream, and guacamole-that I could see. My Mojito was strong for me at 11am so I had to ask for more simple syrup. Would give 0 stars if I could. Absolutely abhorrent service. 45 minutes to get an appetizer. Server (Brett) was rude and unapproachable the whole visit. When he took 1 order of our 3 person party, asked if we wanted anything else. Other guest made a joke about watching the other people eat and he said "k" then turned around and took 2 orders from other tables. We kept trying to talk to him and he ignored us. When we decided to take our check and leave he got indignant and actually got into a confrontation with one of our guests. He told us to, "go fuck outselves and to fuck off." Walking out, we told management and they took his side, saying we were rude and that he's stressed "because of covid and they're operating at 25% capacity." Where Vail goes to watch football . . . Generally a chill spot, Garf's erupts with activity during sporting events. While they have ample TVs, their placement throughout the restaurant makes it difficult to follow multiple games (unless you're seated at the bar). There are no TVs on the patio though the patio has a nice mountain view (from the base of the Eagle Bahn gondolas). I didn't eat, but I observed numerous dishes come out from the kitchen. Appears to be pretty standard pub food. You certainly won't go home hungry. read more

This place was pretty packed when we arrived, so I'm not sure how I feel about it. Garfinkle himself greets you at the door so that was fun - I'm all about bars having animal mascots (especially a moose). I am not sure if this place does karaoke every single night, but it was definitely karaoke time when we arrived around 11 p.m. on a Thursday night. Of course, it was MJ tribute night as he had just passed earlier that day, but still - kind of irritating. The karaoke was pretty embarrassing and ridiculous, so I can't really decide how I feel about it. The line was too long to even sign up for a song and no one was singing anything good. Such is karaoke, I guess. There were too many people in the space (especially toward the front) and the beer was kind of expensive so we just got out of there after one drink. They did have a pretty good selection of drinks and they had it looked like they had a very large menu of food. If it hadn't been so chilly, we would have taken advantage of the outdoor patio which seemed really awesome. Too bad we couldn't bear to sit out there for more than a minute. Meh, this place was OK. It really seems like the locals love it because it's like a drunk frat party, so more power to you if that's how you have fun. read more

I'm 22 years old, I do not have a fake ID, and I did not try to use one. The tone for this visit was set at an incredibly rude pace. We were a table of 6. The waitress on the first order refused to modify an order (a very simple mod to remove buffalo sauce from a buffalo wrap and instead put BBQ sauce on it. She did get BBQ sauce on the side.. Sorry you didn't have that on the menu ) because she didn't want to stress the kitchen out (what?). And just for another example when asked to split the check she said "what? Can't you do math?" Garfinkel's gets credit for being a Lionshead fixture. It's tradition to come down after a day of skiing, sit on the patio, drink a beer, eat nachos, and watch the last skiers of the day come down. The problem is that the food isn't great, and the service is just miserable. We sat at a table outside the other day and ordered some simple appetizers and drinks, all of which took forever to come out, if they even did. My brother had to ask FOUR times for a soda, which arrived as we asked for the check. The extra chips for our nachos arrived after we had finished the nachos. A bloody mary never arrived at all. The waitress was nowhere to be seen for most of this. It was a joke. This isn't unusual at Garfinkel's, but it probably won't stop us from going, since that patio is too nice to pass up. And the nachos are kinda a mess, but perfect after a long day on the slopes. However, don't ignore the Chophouse and Taphouse for your on-mountain apres-ski either. read more

Not a fan. At all. The location was nice, right by the gondola & within walking distance from our lodge. But that was basically the only nice thing about the experience. We were in Vail for our wedding, and like I said Garfinkles is within walking distance of our condo. We had two nights out with friends while we were in town, and decided to try Garfinkles out. The service- sucked. It was horrible. My husband & I arrived after our friends one night and after waiting 10 minutes with no waitress, we had to go to the bad to order. We also had to order our refill from another waitress. Our waitress was not attentive, and I really don't know why she is employed there. When we were leaving and asked for our tabs, we noticed that some of us has gratuity added onto our checks. We are all under 25, and our group was big enough to qualify for the added gratuity but she seemed to pick out those who she thought wouldn't tip. This is trashy. Each one of us have in the past or currently do serve tables- we were planning on tipping well to begin with. Either she knew her service was shit or she decided by looking at us and assuming since we are young, we wouldn't tip. And no, we weren't drunk to the point where she would assume we wouldn't tip due to this. Another issue was they close the patio after dark. I find this strange. I've never ever been to a bar that does this, so anyone who was a smoker had to walk through the front door (leaving their drinks at the table) and exit the establishment to do so. Which was a pain. The only thing that Garfinkel's has going for it is it's amazing location just steps from the Eagle Bahn Gondola. It is precisely this feature that lured us in here for a drink and afternoon snack while on vacation in Vail last week. There's basically nothing to say about this place except that it's a sports bar with below average food, a mediocre beer list, and staff that clearly embody the ski bum lifestyle and all the pot smoking opportunities it has to offer. Maybe it's the rigid east coaster in me, but I like my wait staff to at least show up to work awake. That being said, it's just an average sports bar, so some may be completely content with all it had to offer. I, however, won't be back. read more
