When at O'Hare, a must stop is Terminal 1, concourse B. We went over during our four hour layover around 9:10pm. Uh oh, closing time she said. I asked her what about all that popcorn still? She relented. I only wanted a small Garret mix combo. She bagged one for me. I had my $5.05 ready. She said it's O.K. Let me have a bag gratis. What a great treat. When in Chicago one must go to Garrett popcorn so when i was at ohare I did just that. I don't eat popcorn but I took my parents and bestie some. I always get the Chicago mix which is caramel and cheese. They make it fresh and it smells delicious. Don't let the line deter you -it goes fast. It's not cheap but they use quality ingredients and whenever I gift it, I'm a star! Two bags of large will cost you 20 bucks . There will always be people who think Gino's East is the best, etc. The fact is, they are all good and all of them will make you fat. Maybe there is a better brand? Sometimes it's just about being at the right place at the right time...like being stuck at an airport. It's definitely worth a try if you haven't ever had it. The airport lines are usually shorter than the lines at the store, except for maybe the Watertower location. Don't expect it to "keep" very long. My sister and I wanted to do a Garrett Popcorn stop while we were wandering around the streets of Chicago, but as many travelers probably know, time is never on your side when you want to intimately get to know a place's cuisine. The night before our flight, I checked out the eateries at O'Hare and found that there were not just one, but two Garrett locations located at the airport. Oh happy day! After grabbing some quick breakfast in Terminal 1, we headed over to Garrett Popcorn. We loaded up with a small bag to eat while we awaited our plane and two other bigger ones to share with family once we got home. As soon as I shoved in the mediocre bagel that constituted my morning meal of the day, I ripped open the waxed bag of fluorescent orange and tawny popped kernels. Hallelujah! Okay, seriously, I want my review taken seriously by both pious and sacrilegious folk alike. Back to the popcorn. I was amazed at how fresh the corn "flakes" (yeah, look it up in Wikipedia, apparently this is what popped corn kernels are called amongst those in the know... see how I just helped us become part of the "in" group?) because honestly, I was afraid that the airport location would have stale kernels. Words can't describe the popcorn here. Yes, I know...it's just popcorn...but....it's Garrett's popcorn - best in the country I've had! The butter popcorn is made with real butter. The cheese popcorn will get your fingers nicely orange and greasy. It's delicious. I bought the caramel popcorn for my dad and took it home. He described it as, "out of this world and brought back many childhood memories." Undoubtedly, this airport location is more expensive than those in the city. However, if you are only transiting or if the airport is the only place that you'll be at that morning (e.g. if city locations are closed before you have to be at the airport), this is the place to be. Even more concerning when you are traveling is the freshness. You do need to eat the butter or cheese popcorn right away; eating leftovers overnight will result in soggy popcorn. To preserve the caramel popcorn, a friend puts in a ziplock bag upon arrival at home, and it'll last a week. Don't be deterred by the long line, since it moves quickly. After all, people are just buying popcorn. The staff are friendly and accurately charge you the right amount. A small bag is definitely more than enough for me. Since my father sees my itineraries and he requires caramel popcorn, I will definitely visit this place every time I return to concourse B! read more

I am so HAPPY there is a Garrett's in the Airport! All over Chicago I kept getting hit with that intoxicatingly delicious smell as I passed any store front. I didn't want to buy it before hand and let it get all soggy before I was flying home. Luckily my prayers were answered when I found out they actually had one in the airport so I could purchase it right before I hopped on the plane. This was my first experience at Garrett's so I figured I should go with the Hometown favorite The Chicago Mix - a blend of CaramelCrisp® and CheeseCorn Wowieee hands down BEST popcorn I had ever eaten in my life! As a big sweet and salty fan this was heaven for more. The popcorn is actually still hot when they fill it in the paper bags! It's definitely addictive stuff! The Mrs. loves Garrett popcorn and the fact that you can get it at the O'Hare International Airport makes me look like a hero to her. I was going through a transfer from Canada back to California through Chicago, had about 40 min to get to the gate....gate was about a 10 min walk (I know...pretty far walk) but on my way to my transfer, I saw the Garrett and there was maybe 3 people ahead of me...it was painless. Opted to buy the Garrett mix (sweet and savory) medium size for about $7 and some change, and a small caramel for about $4 - 5. What's unique about Garrets is that their signature mix is a mixture of sweet and savory...of caramel popcorn and cheese popcorn. Makes great quick pick for gift or souvenir compared to the normal stuffed animals, chocolate, pins, and a way to a woman's heart is food *wink* read more

After a long flight home from San Francisco airport we were so happy to locate the Garrett's Popcorn shop to use our meal vouchers! That's right after almost 2 day trip on getting home to Chicago we had to use our last meal vouchers on Garrett's from United Airlines because it is the way we roll. Loved it! Read on Yelp! that it was one of Oprah's favorite things, and it was right across from our gate (H1) so of course I had to try it. My fingers got all greasy, and my teeth buzzed from the sugar, but wow, was this the best caramel and cheddar cheese popcorn I have ever had!! It says they use no preservatives and I believe you can taste the difference. 4 stars only because the 2nd time I went (on my return flight home) the kids working didn't seem very happy to be there, and they didn't mix my Chicago mix properly. The first time I went, the girl got small scoops of each, and alternated, so that my Chicago mix was perfectly mixed, and I got a little of both flavors in each handful. The 2nd time, the girl put half cheddar, then topped the top half with caramel, and then tried to mix it a little.. Fail. A little pricy, but definitely worth it for a good snack. Chicago makes sure you never leave without bringing back some Garretts mix back home. No, it's not just ANY popcorn. It's GARRETTS popcorn. As much as you try to avoid Garretts while walking down Chi Town, it will still find a way to get you. There was no way I was going back home empty handed. Plain, Buttery, Cheese, or Caramel. You think you love cheese, but you actually don't. What you really love is cheese AND caramel. No, you don't eat cheese first and caramel second. The proper way to consume a Garretts mix is to have a 1:1 ratio and eat it at once. Now, that's not the absolute standard way. Feel free to customize to your liking. Like cheese more? I don't know if this is cheating but I posted my original review to the other location at ORD. I've actually only ever been to this one. Here goes: The popcorn is what carries Garrett's and I'm totally fine with that. It is really good. I have several people in Texas that I buy it for whenever I go to ORD. I want to be as honest as possible and I haven't seen a scale on what makes something four stars versus five stars in Yelp, so I'll explain here. Garrett's is in a great location at O'Hare International across from the Oakley Store at the escalator to walk to the other terminal. The staff is personable and efficient. Being in an airport they have to be for the folks running to a connection. The only issue I had was probably managements fault. Recently, when you check into Garrett's on Yelp you are supposed to receive a free bottle of water. The personnel at the counter said they had not been told how to actually make that happen, either by how to charge it or which water they were supposed to give out. I wasn't too worried about but she gave me a water that she had for herself; very sweet! It wasn't like I was making a big deal about it, she was just very kind and had an extra water. Anyway, this has very little to do with the popcorn and just a minor snafu. The popcorn is truly over the top and excellent. I like the Carmel pecan the best, but I buy the Chicago Mix for my friends. I have to get the smaller bags because I'll eat the whole thing once I start! read more

Big Fan of the popcorn. I look forward to getting it everytime I'm in Chicago or at O'Hare if the line isn't too long. Not the least expensive popcorn in the world but it is really good! I was just there on 6-15-2017 before 10am in the B Concourse. The line wasn't too long so I waited and it was worth the wait. Make sure you have CASH available. The three folks working there were good about telling everyone that the Credit Card Machine wasn't working so they would only take cash - some folks left since they didn't have cash. I had cash so waited but was surprised that I was told I couldn't even get a receipt after paying cash. Further, I was even asked if I really wanted my change - My purchase was about $19.75 and I gave them a $20 so I was fine not getting change and told her to keep it and left. I really think that even if a credit card machine isn't working, you should still be able to get a receipt? Please keep in mind that as a business traveler, receipts are sometimes required for reimbursement, even a simple cash register receipt would help. read more

This is a must stop for anyone passing through the Chicago airport! Freshly popped Garretts is a life changing experience compared to their mail order version! The Chicago blend (cheddar cheese and caramel) is highly addictive and you don't realize how much you eat until your fingers are stained orange for days! Orange stained fingers is a sign my Chicago trip was a success. Pro Tip: don't wear white when eating these delicious gems. The staff isn't overly friendly (probably cause they are ridiculously efficient at getting the max amount of popcorn into the package) but they open up once you start talking to them. Best part is the free samples!!! And I guess it's also pretty fun watching them mix the Chicago blend. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Chicago Mix is half cheddar cheese popcorn and half caramel popcorn. It is perfectly mixed and perfectly popped and covered. Of course they have other flavors, but I can't not get the MIX. The lines move really fast, the staff are super friendly and well organized. I am a big fan of this company. Having tried Nuts on Clark popcorn on a previous trip to Chicago, I was surprised to find a second popcorn company at O'Hare Airport. In the interest of Yelp research, I decided to be fair and give Garrett a chance to impress my palate too The ladies behind the counter advised me to get the Chicago mix - a mixture of sweet CaramelCrisp and savoury CheeseCorn shaken together. Though initially a bit dubious about this combination, the mix of salty and sweet actually goes very well together. Though I got a medium sized bag, my British appetite meant that the bag lasted 4 days! Impressively, the popcorn was still crunchy on day 4. Just one word of warning. The yellow cheese powder is clingy and sticks stubbornly to your fingers! Now, it is LOVE :) While the store downtown is huge and has a huge variety of choices and merchandise, it is always packed a 100 people deep. This little kiosk in Terminal 1 is sometimes mercifully light on people waiting, making it possible to sneak in a quick little bag of oh-so-indulgent Chicago mix!!! Mmmm, heaven!!! I once had someone at O'Hare tell me that he had been standing in line to board, with a bag of Garrett's when a lady who was in First Class offered him her seat in FC in exchange for the bag. I'm not sure I believe that story but yes, it's THAT good!!! Do yourself a favor if you're in T1 or T3 at O'Hare. If you haven't experienced the wonder of Garrett's do it! Best popcorn ever. I'm not a huge fan of popcorn so I hardly ever eat it; when I do, it's usually from Garrett! My favorite mix is their Chicago Mix: caramel & cheese mixed in one batch. However, if you're not a fan of mixing sweet and savory, you probably won't like this. But you should try it anyway, because it's bomb. I love this location at O'Hare because it's super convenient. I didn't have a chance to go to any Garrett stores in the city during my business trip last May, so I was really excited to see this one in my terminal before my return flight back to LA. It is kinda of a hassle when you already have one carry-on bag, but I managed to stuff and hide my souvenir popcorn bucket into my very large purse. I'm surprised this place got so many good reviews. The line was consistent with always having at least 3 people in it. Definitely an easy snack for travel. I got the Garrett mix, which was just a combo of cheddar and caramel. Tasted like normal popcorn with a few stale and more than a few hard kernels. The packaging was nice though. Let me preface this review by expressing my extreme and possibly unhealthy obsession with the tasty snack we all know as POPCORN! I've died and gone to "I-snack-entirely-too-much" heaven. Yes, that's a real place. Lucky for me, I had a pretty long layover in Chicago. I bolted over to Garrett's and scoped out the menu. Pricey. Really pricey. I mean, I 'heart' me some popcorn, but really? I figured it would be worth it, so I sucked up my cheapness and ordered a small cheese-corn. If you would have seen me with the bag, you would have thought I just won a car. I was that happy. I am now addicted to Garrett's Cheese-corn and I'm seriously contemplating a trip to Chicago just for another taste. So what if your fingers will be stained orange for a few days after eating it. I don't even understand why this stuff tastes so good. As I was looking for things to do in ORD during a layover, I found all the awesome reviews for this place. Get the Chicago mix, they said. Why would I do that? It sounded disgusting. Who would want to mix cheese and caramel? It turns out that the reviewers were right. My biggest mistake was not actually trying the popcorn until I got home, because if I'd eaten any in the airport, I would have gone back for a bigger bag. Chicago O'Hare is a beast. a BEAST. I hate flying through O'Hare. There are always delays and gate changes and long walks. Flying back from a mini vacation this week, I had a short layover. Well, short turned longer because of a delay. Then my gate got changed 4 times. During the fourth gate saunter, my eyes were trying to take in the glories of O'Hare-dom. They lazily drifted to the right. Wait. What does that shiny pretty sign say?? Why is my heart suddenly all a flutter? After living in Austin, Texas for two years I had forgotten the glories of GARRETT'S POPCORN! There in the terminal was a stand selling freshly made (no really--you can see them mixing it right behind the counter!!) delectable goodness. From now on I will be checking to make sure I add a little bit of time to my O'Hare layover so I can grab some windy city delights in the form of "Chicago Mix" cheese and caramel popcorn. read more

I was looking for a tasty somewhat healthy snack and this place came through for me! Well, popcorn is healthier than French fries or fudge, right? They offer samples of everything, which is nice, even the costly caramel and nut kinds, which I ultimately selected. The staff were upbeat and friendly, making it a fun experience not just a "transaction." There are about 4 sizes: small (don't bother), medium (just right for fitting in your pack), large (if you have a family of 8), and there might have been extra large (wash tub size). They also offer tins for most if not all of the portion sizes, which would make a cool gift. There were about 15 different kinds of popcorn from sweet to savory and even the option to mix several. I opted for the pecan caramel crunch. it was stupendously good! And the medium bag lasted me for days! Garretts is apparently a Chicago icon, and deserving of return visits. My only beef was cost. Yes, it is an airport, and yes, you are an icon, but the prices were eyebrow raising. Nevertheless, I would go back, and do recommend them, just be prepared to shell out a little for this delicious corn! read more

Got to the airport early to order several tins to bring to Europe as client gifts. After waiting in the line for a half how i was told that an order of my request would take an hour, which was fine. For the holidays Garrett's has a small decretive tin promotion so i ordered some extra promo tins Go to pay and I was told that promo tins can not be included for "bulk" orders. It would be a CRIME to miss out on the Garretts in ORD. I'm not kidding. I even considered missing a connecting flight for a brief moment when I realized I wouldn't be able to stop and grab some of this deliciousness before making my connection. As others have stated, the Chicago mix is an absolute must. Perfect blend of warm and fresh cheese and caramel popcorn. This sweet and salty combo is my favorite treat, hand's down. And I eat a lot of treats due to my ridiculous sugar addiction. A couple of things to note about this location: - it's located inside security so you don't have to worry about lugging your popcorn through security and getting it all squashed. - the service is much quicker than most Garrett locations as they realize people are trying to make flights. I've been to this location three times and never had to wait in line for more than 5 minutes. - the popcorn is kept warm, so if you plan to eat it in the terminal/on the plane, be sure to grab a lot of napkins and get a big bottle of water.
