    Broasted Chicken

My fiancé & I came here while visiting West Bend. I would say that thing that got us in was the exterior looked very nice& quaint. The menu is a little sparse & the entrees are pretty expensive compared to the rest of the menu. Great drink menu. Bloody Mary was inexpensive to reasonable at $7. Very good draft beer menu too. I got the Broasted Chicken for just $15. It was delicious & very hot off the fryer. Well worth it. Alone this would have been a 5* visit. Great potato wedge fries. Reason for docking it a star is that their sandwich & paninis were extremely dinky & not worth it at all. My fiancé got the Half Panini & Soup combo. The Panini literally had less meat than what you'd get at Subway. Saw other people order a sandwich & again they looked dinky. I'd go here for the chicken again but the challenge is that half of their menu are salads & sandwiches that are not worth it from portion size & the vast majority of remaining are $25+ entrees.

Half sandwich/salad deal - Buffalo chicken wrap and strawberry spinach salad

Went here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and had a great experience! I love what they did with the restaurant space, we were quickly seated on their gorgeous patio, plenty of shade and nice ambience. Could definitely picture myself sitting by the giant stone fireplace with a glass of wine during chillier days! Our waitress was very attentive, always checking in to make sure we were enjoying the meal and had what we needed. The food was good, it didn't blow me away but was a solid standard buffalo chicken wrap and salad - portions were very generous for the price which I think was around $13. I thought the sun dried tomato was a bit of an odd addition to the strawberry salad, I'd swap it out with pickled onions instead.

Gary's Place was one of the suggestions I received on social media for a Wednesday fish fry during Lent. The menu had something for everyone, so my family and I hopped in the car and made our way over. I ordered a three piece beer battered cod with fries, my wife got a BYO cheeseburger and fries, and the kids got a grilled cheese and a kid's cheeseburger with fries. We also ordered cheese curds to share and I got a bowl of the soup of the day, which was cheesy broccoli cauliflower. I asked the waitress if she knew what kind of batter or breading the cheese curds had before we ordered them, specifically hoping to avoid cheese curds that have a cornmeal-like breading as I pointed out to her. She said they were battered, so we took a chance. Unfortunately, she was wrong and the cheese curds did have a cornmeal-like breading instead of being battered, so they weren't as crispy as I like and the plate had a fair amount of grease on it. I would rather get mozzarella sticks next time if we get an appetizer at all. I was excited for the soup because it's been a while since I've had cheesy broccoli. The flavor was fine, but it was way more salty than cheesy broccoli soup from anywhere else. I don't know how often they have the cheesy broccoli cauliflower, but I wouldn't get it again if they happened to have it while I'm there. All of us loved our entrees. The beer batter on the fish was great, the burgers had a good amount of cheese and flavor, and the grilled cheese was huge. The fries have nice seasoning on them too. We all agreed that this made up for the subpar cheese curds and disappointment with the soup.

Food and service does not match the price. All things considered, it is still a neat place to go; however, I most likely will not be returning. The inside dining area is interesting and clean.

While visiting West Bend we decided to try this place for fish fry because it seemed cool and had decent ratings. We arrived at 6pm and were seated right away, however when downhill from there. We waited 15 mins for waitress to come. She took our fish fry order then came back after 40 mins to say they were out of cod which is what we ordered. We almost left but decided to order something else. Waited another 40 mins for that food which was ok. By this time we were ready to go and get had to wait another 20 mins just to get our check. In the end they only comped our two sodas. Wont be going back.

Great French fries! We also enjoyed the chicken nuggets and grilled cheese. Low key, good food, good service.

My only nitpicks are that the pizza is kinda hard to hold because of its flimsiness, which is just par for the course with this style of pizza, and the pepperoni was really greasy, which is par for the course for any pizza of any kind. Also, bonus points for a quiet, inviting atmosphere, making it sensory-friendly for my Nana and I who are on the autism spectrum.

Whenever I'm in West Bend and in need of a meal (assuming it's not for a fish fry on a Friday…read morenight), Sal's Pizzeria is always the first place I think of. On this particular visit I got my favorite: lasagna pizza with garlic knots. If you mix together the large dollops of sauce, meat, and ricotta cheese on the lasagna pizza, then close your eyes and take a bite, you'll almost forget you're eating pizza and not actual lasagna. It's heavenly. The garlic knots are soft and they don't skimp on the garlic. I'm also a big fan of their stuffed sausage and pepperoni pizza, which has mozzarella cheese and ricotta cheese in it too with sauce on the side instead of in the pizza. My wife enjoys their mac and cheese pizza. The Sal's in West Bend is far superior to the one in Hartford. The slice selection in Hartford is usually very basic and limited in comparison and the garlic knots are smaller with less garlic on top. The Sal's in West Bend is worth the drive even if Hartford's location is closer to you.

I called and they said they would still honor it AND I could use it on their Thursday night all you can eat ribs, so my eldest son and I made our way to West Bend for dinner. I got the AYCE ribs, which comes with cornbread muffins, and mac and cheese and fries for the sides. My son got a two meat combo with brisket and smoked chicken for the meats and mac and cheese and fries for the sides. His also came with a cornbread muffin and we ordered cheese curds to start with. The cheese curds were awesome. The breading was sort of like what you sometimes find on chicken strips, so it had a nice crunch to it. I didn't love the parmesan sprinkled on top, but that's a minor issue. Both of us really liked the mac and cheese. It comes in a container like you'd pour gravy or coffee cream from, so unfortunately we didn't get a ton of it. I'd have no problem getting double mac and cheese next time if my meal comes with two sides. The fries were more like potato wedges. They were on the salty side, but had good flavor and were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside like potato wedges should be. The all you can eat ribs came with four cornbread muffins. Obviously they want you to fill up on those and not order more ribs. For what they were they were fine and pretty much down the middle in terms of moist versus dry. I'm not normally a brisket person, but the piece of his that I tried was impressive. I didn't think the smoked chicken had much smokiness to it and, being white meat, it was more dry than I prefer. The ribs were excellent. They fell off the bone and had just the right amount of bark on them. The BBQ sauce was both tangy and smoky, which I like. The food came out relatively fast and our server (I think it was Savannah?) was friendly and attentive. Maybe the move to a new location has and will improve on some of the issues other reviewers seemed to have had in the past. As for us, everything went smoothly and I'm looking forward to stopping again.
