Went here for prime rib. My wife ordered medium rare and the meat came out medium well/well... She sent it back twice, on the third time the chef came out and scolded her. The chef proceeded to take the roast back only to turn over the meat and deliver the same original slice?? The chef only turned over the original slice?? In addition, the prime rib was rubbed with turkey seasoning? We were treated terribly by the chef and I will never return to eat this below average meal! read more

Well this was surprise, first time here and trying the fish fry. Very disappointed. Asked for fried received baked. Bread basket was dried and stale. Coleslaw had no mayonnaise, all you taste is raw cabbage. They gave us a huge boat of fries that we did not order and charged us for it. The only good food was the breaded mushrooms. The lady manager just sat around and talked with friends at the bar or sat by herself on the phone while her staff was running around needing help. read more

I've lived here for three years and have enjoyed the fish fry tremendously from time to time. I Especially like the salad bar and soup available with the full meals. Gary has made every meal wonderful and always treats the family good. I grew up in the Midwest but have been gone for a while and Gary mentioned the broasted chicken. I wish I took a picture to share with you but I can tell you this meal is legit. The broasted chicken recipe is definitely adhered to and will definitely cease your tastebuds on the first bite. I seriously have not tasted better chicken anywhere my travels have placed Me. I realize that this place is off the grid for most; but please do yourself a favor and stop in. The boneless skinless chicken breast was also a solid choice with the same options on sides. I am definitely a big fan of the green beans that left me wondering about the preparation. When Gary stopped to check on us and divulged his secret preparations on these addictive green beAns ....I seriously could not believe the simplicity of the dish that left the Beans as the Star of the available Sides! read more

1st visit since Gary took over kitchen. We had a party of a dozen and everyone was thrilled with pizza, wings, misc appetizers etc. 5***** and the homemade ranch was great. So l had to ask about the prime rib? Brenda brought me a small sample, very good. Then my daughter tried a piece of the cheese cake and yes also very good. The frosting on the cake was Heather. The only reason I gave this place one star is because the bathrooms were really nice. I mean, like very nice. Nice wood, updated. That's the only good thing I can say about this place. We didn't even order dinner. the service was HORRIBLE the dinnerware/glassware was mismatched and dingy. Huge turn off. Spring for decent cutlery at least! read more

This place is a hidden gem! We had the prime rib and deep fried shrimp. Both came with the salad and soup bar! The prime rib was a generous portion and very tender! The serve was very good and drinks were perfect! This was probably the best prime rib in Wisconsin!! read more

Love Gary's! Salmon Alfredo is better than Maggianos by leaps and bounds. Service is stellar, always. We are regulars and whenever we think about exploring other restaurants, we think, why? Gary always delivers great food and superb service! Our favorites: Salmon Alfredo, fish fry, New York strip, tater tot tower (to die for), homemade chocolate cake by Gary himself and homemade pizza (the best!). Just went there tonight for dinner. I have to say it was VERY GOOD! I would recommend it for a full dinner which includes a fresh salad bar and homemade soups or a snack such as a quesadilla. The chocolate cake is to die for!! read more

Gary walks around the bar introducing himself and making sure everyone is happy with their food and service. Have been here several times and always have terrific food. Such a great sports bar and restaurant! Huge tvs, and pretty much the nicest people you can imagine own the restaurant. Gary, the owner, took our orders and waited on us. We have three kids under three and his response was "we love kids here"! Such a rare response! He made sure they got some applesauce and food from the salad bar prior to their $1.99 meals coming out! He even cut up their chicken fingers for them while I tended to the baby! It was my birthday and he brought out a delicious piece of cake and ice cream as well. Our entrees were also delicious! Have gone there a few times. The food is good BUT the service SUCKS big time. We had the prime rib once, it was good after it was sent back to get heated up. it was so cold it would not even melt butter on the potato. Now we went there wed night and sat for ten minutes before anyone came to the table. This was after we were seated by the bar tender, so they knew we were there to eat. Then after 30 min's we asked for our food, which got Gary to come out of hiding and yell at us for not letting him know we were in the place. Our food came ten min's later, which tells me that there was nothing cooking before that.. The place was not busy other than the bar, so that is not the reason.. I will never go back to this place. We were seated in the dining room by the bartender because she was the only working in the bar and restaurant section. We sat at the table and waited for her to come back and take our order. After about ten minutes my husband went to the bar area and asked what the problem was and she stated that she forgot we were there. She took our order and after 30 minutes we still had not received our food. The owner, Gary came out and started to yell at us and told us that we needed to let someone know that we were there. The bartender seated us!! He said that we shouldn't worry because our food would be fresh and hot. Then we finally received our food after about ten more minutes. This restaurant is a hot mess!! First of all I ordered a Captain and Coke with my dinner. When I got the drink it had so much rum in it I couldn't drink it. Waitress stated that they use 3 1/2 shots in their drinks. We ordered the appetizer platter and the food must have been deep-fried in dirty and old oil. I then ordered the shrimp dinner. The menu is so hard to read you don't even know what comes with your dinner or what options you have . The baked potato was old and dried up. The green beans were old Wilty and had no taste. The shrimp tasted bland no seasoning and dry. My mom ordered the chicken dinner which came with coleslaw and mashed potatoes. The coleslaw must have been rancid because it was sour to eat and she spit it out immediately! I will not be coming back here to eat. I live not too far from here so it would've been nice to have a place to go for a drink and dinner. This place is not worth the time or money! read more

Stopped in today for the first time for a Friday night fish fry. Wow, was I totally surprised at the great food and great atmosphere. I had a blue gill dinner and my wife had the baked cod. This place is the poorest excuse for a "restaurant". The food is nothing worth coming back for. The food is just average and the prices are astronomical (especially for what you receive). The drinks are nearly double the price than every other local bars. The service is average but the waitresses always look upset- as I witnessed an older man who I'm guessing is the owner yelling at an employee in front of customers! Very uncomfortable. Fish fry was great. A nice light breading, not greasy at all. We ordered the 3 piece fish fry and actually received 4 nice size pieces. What a surprise, when we heard the salad bar, along with 2 soups, was included with our dinner. This was our second visit and we will definitely return for the fish fry. read more

We had eaten here several times in the past before it became "Gary's Boathouse," and the food had been good though the service was very slow.. We tried it once right after owners changed hands, food and service were terrible. That was months ago, thought we'd give it one more chance. It was our waitress's first night, and she did try very hard to get everything right. Unfortunately she couldn't overcome slow food preparation and sub par food. The menu was very confusing, more like a pamphlet than a menu. We ordered the bleu cheese bacon dip w/pita chips for an appetizer, the dip was very good, but the chips had obviously come out of a bag and heated in a microwave(leaving them unevenly heated, soft,and gummy, definite no no.) I had wanted the beer brat/cheese soup but they were out, so ordered a wedge salad w/ baked french onion soup. The salad was standard fair, the tomatoes chopped small and thin as used for tacos(?), and unfortunately it was room temperature, though the dressing was good. The soup was inedible as it was barely warm and so salty I had to drink half a glass of water immediately after. In addition the croutons and cheese had obviously been added before heating and it was a soggy mess. She did offer to replace it w/chili, but it was 85 degrees outside, wasn't really interested in chili. My husband had a New York strip dinner which was listed at 12 oz, but was obviously barely 8 oz. When he told her it certainly was not 12 oz. she said the cook told her it shrank ?!? His potato was lukewarm, the butter wouldn't even melt. He wasn't given any vegetable at all, but said his salad, though room temperature was good. In addition they were "out of bread" neither my husband or I were offered a substitute, or bill adjustment. We weren't expecting steak house quality food, but decent, edible food would have been nice, as would dinner in less than an hour and a half considering it was Tuesday and only 3 other tables of dinner customers. Also there was "music," very loud, one man band that sounded like karaoke. Definitely won't be back, nor recommend it to anyone! read more
