Went to eat there with my wife and two friends . I ordered the Cuban sandwich and french fries. The sandwich looked yummy, but after a few bites i found a blond hair in the sandwich. My friend also noticed it. The waitress was made aware and she claimed it was part of the sandwich, which is B.S.. We were walking in Ybor City the other afternoon and walked by Gaspar's Grotto. The courtyard bar looked pretty fun, and there were a bunch of seats open at the bar, so we went in and have a few drinks. Literally as soon as the clock hit like 6, the bar filled up. This must be the SPOT, and we must have gotten lucky to stumble by early and get a seat. Everyone was having a great time and they played great old-school music. My husband and I visited Gaspar's Grotto for the first time last week. We visited on a warm evening, so we chose to sit outside on the very large patio. We were greeted right away and given menus. The waiter returned shortly to take our drink orders. My husband ordered the 2 shots and 2 beers and I order the 2 Aperol Spritz special. Our drinks came very quickly and were delicious. The 2 beers were small, but that was fine since there were two and they were very inexpensive. We ordered the smokehouse sweet and spicy wings and a Caesar salad. The waiter (thankfully) let us know that the small Caesar was quite large and it was! The Caesar was very fresh, crisp and tasty. The wings weren't quite what we expected as it was a dry rub. We thought that they would be saucy. The waiter offered to bring bbq sauce but we just ate them as is with some hot sauce added. They were very tasty, but I'd order a saucier version next time. All in all, we had a good experience at Gaspar's and would return. read more

If you're looking for the world's salt supply dumped on your food, do come here. My tongue feels like a shriveled slug. Service is nice but basically nowhere to be found. We came here for brunch on a Sunday morning I think maybe Saturday morning I think Sunday morning geez I don't remember. Anyway it was not bad. We had a party of eight. Everybody was still worried about social distancing so we kind of sat by ourselves at a big table. They had some interesting giant connect four that was fun. A couple video games. The food was OK. Nothing to write home about and it was super expensive. The staff was nice but in efficient. Our sodas were served in a 12 ounce plastic cup and no refills were forthcoming. After her food was dropped we really didn't see her so even though everybody needed another drink nobody got one. In fact we ordered the all you can drink mimosas but everybody only had one. The food took a little longer than average for a restaurant that had one table and one table eating. Shrimp and grits was fishy and it was 20 bucks. I don't mind paying that for a good shrimp and grits but this just wasn't. If you're going to pimp yourself out as a New Orleans style restaurant you should learn how to cook New Orleans food. Just my opinion. Pretty sure there was just one guy in the kitchen cooking up the food. I guess that would be normal on the morning actually it was probably about 1130. What a unique experience! We went with friends for Saturday brunch. We had boozy coffee and great food. While the inside was very cool looking, we ate on the patio. The service was a little slow at first only because we were the only ones out there initially. As the patio became more crowded our waitress was more attentive (honestly I think she just didn't want to hover or bug us before). Gaspars Groto is my local go to spot for wings because they never miss! In the heart of Ybor so they are a bar environment, laid back, open late, and always friendly service. If you're a wing lover, in Tampa you have to come and have some. I love trying the different wings, my favorite is the Carolina Gold BBQ, it's a little tangy and Smokey. Today I stopped and asked my exceptionally friendly waiter Kel, what his favorite wings are, he told me it's a mix of the Smokehouse Sweet and Spicy with Moonshine Barbecue. Kel's way is DELICIOUS! Kel's way should be on the menu in my opinion, it's Smokey, sweet and savory. My partner had the Honey Lime Sriracha which he said were "fire". I found them to be very tasty, the kick of spice hits you right away and fried perfectly. The sweet potato fries are crispy and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, and amazing paired with yogurt. Came here after Sunday brunch bar hopping with friends! It was a cute place and atmosphere. We sat outside at a table for about 30 min before we realized nobody had acknowledged us, and so we flagged the server down, and she told us that the dinner hadn't started yet, but we could order drinks. So we told her we'd wait the 20 min until 3pm to order food if we wanted. We said that's fine we would wait. We waited another 45 min without anybody still coming up to us. I flagged a different person down and she said someone would be there soon. Soon meant another 15 min. We weren't in a hurry and just enjoying the day so not super upset but annoyed. Finally got drinks and food ordered. The margarita was terrible!! The food was amazing tho!! Ordered wings and sweet potato fries and we ate them all! Visited on a Sunday midday for lunch. Outdoor patio was hopping and sign outside noted that they're having a hard time finding staff...so take that into consideration. Definitely worth the visit. Food was as expected and tasty if slow to come (see "crowded" and "short staffed" above. Wife's quesadillas were delish, as was my Cuban sandwich (when in Rome...). Beignets were AWESOME and hot and delicious. Live entertainment was even pretty good. Certainly not a high end meal, but nicely priced. Just wish we didn't have to wait so long...and was a little miffed that neither server nor clearer bought us setups when we asked. Casper's Grotto is one of my go-to places for a cheap, affordable breakfast in a casual setting. I've had a few of their offerings and the French toast is good I've had the breakfast sandwich which comes with two eggs, cheese, and you get a choice of bacon, sausage, Mojo Pork, or ham pressed and Cuban bread. It's delicious and all that for $6.95. I also love the breakfast skillet. It comes with onions, peppers, and cheese topped with two eggs. I get my eggs over easy. It's delicious and it comes with home fries and Cuban toast. And again all for $6.95. For extra $2.25 you can get two bacon strips, sausage patty, or a ham steak. But for me the breakfast skillet is enough food. You have to remember that when you're in Ybor eating at a restaurant, you might see a rooster getting a quick drink from the dog's water bowl or a group of roosters on the table doing a table dance... ;-) So, stay calm and carry on.. We asked for a particular drink & the his first works were, but our drinks are $17 dollars. We were a bit taken back. Stumbled upon this place on a Sunday morning, may not have been the best time to visit. The outdoor grotto certainly looks like a fun place to day drink, we were just too early. Very small brunch menu, but quite varied. Tried to order the shrimp po boy but they were out. Had the shrimp and grits instead, it was decent. Also tried the famous chicken wings, and they were pretty good. The $4 bloody mary's were a nice surprise for the price. This is a popular bar in the heart of Ybor. It is often the place where a lot of area groups hold parties and fundraisers, which is what brought us out to Gaspar's this time. Gaspar's has a pirate/nautical theme and it is a fun place to hang around even if you aren't here for an event. A charity group I am involved in started and ended our pub crawl here. The nice thing about it was we had the whole sandbar side to ourselves and that left the inside and the other outside area (where the live music plays) open to the public. There are a set of restrooms in each area so that is good. The restrooms were clean. On previous visits my husband had the wings and they were good. He ordered some on this visit as well and they were again, very tasty. The drink sizes were a little small so that was my only complaint. They were using 6 ounce cups (at best) for the free drinks that were part of the pub crawl, which I didn't mind but I thought I would get a bigger drink later when I paid for it. Nope, it was the same size. I would probably just drink beer here on future visits. I hear they have a great brunch on the weekend but I have never been here for that. It's very sad to see a Tampa staple decline as severely as Gaspar's has. This place used to be one of my favorite local restaurants for a Cuban sandwich and happy hour back in the day, but I am sorry to say, I will no longer be extending my business to this establishment. Raven, she gives zero fucks. We got stuck with her serving us the last two times we were there, and she's extremely rude and inattentive. If she cared as much about her tables as she does hanging on the cooks in the corner, perhaps the experience(s) would've been different. In addition to our food taking over 45 minutes to come out, despite us being only one of the three tables seated, we weren't even provided the most basic needs when dining at a restaurant; such as condiments, silverware, straws, etc. We ordered wings, and I had to ask three times for napkins; to which she only brought two. The Cuban sandwich took so long to come out, I had to take it to-go; and it was like pulling teeth to get boxes and our check. Not only did she not bring the water for my dog that I asked for, she didn't bother refilling ours either. Her attitude and level of service, or lack thereof, is appalling. I found the note at the bottom of the menu about striving to return to the restaurant they used to be pretty tacky. Restaurants and bars absolutely need to stop using the pandemic as an excuse for providing shitty service. I, too, am a server and trust me, FLORIDA IS THRIVING. If your restaurant sucks, it's because it sucks; not because of Covid-19. Tampa is exploding with a plethora of good restaurants. The rest will just weed themselves out eventually.
