Is it overpriced? Absolutely and they charge extra if you pay with a card. Is the food okay? Sure, I don't mind grabbing some food off the hot bar here. They turn it over pretty frequently so if you come at peak times everything is fresh. This is a convenient place in midtown and I'm sure their rent is high so everything is priced accordingly. If you were willing to walk a little further you could probably find something cheaper, but let's be honest...it's easier to be lazy and just pay a little extra. read more

We came in at 11:30 in the morning to our hotel and my husband said we were told that this place is open for 24 hours. Had I known that I wouldn't have gone to the place on the corner. I did go in and I was quite impressed with their offerings. I love the fact that they have things that are gluten-free labeled. I did not love the fact that the gluten-free items the dairy items and a gluten-free items have the notices in the same color, it'd be really nice if the notices are different colors. That being said, they have boxed and bagged foods such as crackers and chips, and they have sodas in cans and bottles and they have alcoholic beverages as well. They also have water and juices and breads and meats. That salad fixings and they have a lot of fruits. Some of it bag some of it fresh. But I had to say that when we ordered the food, I was quite impressed with their offering. And the veggies I ordered were freshly cooked, which I really really liked. I did get some that were kind of overcooked after a while, however, when I first saw them, they didn't look like this. Knowing that they're open for 24 hours is really good. Also if I'm ever in the area and I need to buy it no matter what time it is I know that I can come here and get a good one. Tonight, my husband got a green juice and the woman made it and it was very good. To me this place has everything and the food is a good quality. They are freshly cut fruits and veggies and they have salads and they have steamed veggies and they have meat products as well. Knowing that they're open so late is good for me because I know that if I come in very late, I can get a good meal. The only issue for me is that they don't Have a microwave to really warm the food. But the food was still good at the room temperature that it was so, it was something that we could work with. I enjoyed my visit and will be back. read more

Admittedly, their hot bar is quite expensive for what you get. The food was fairy tasty and hearty, but you can find food of much greater quality and quantity for the same price in the surrounding area. The market itself was quite nice, though. I found this market to be delightful because of their hot/cold food bar. We came in for lunch and I immediately wanted a salad when I saw all of the fresh green combos. I got a kale salad with strawberries,apples, raspberries, blackberries, walnuts, and almonds, goat cheese. I dressed this with a raspberry dressing. Delicious! I went the hot bar and got beef teriyaki and some seasoned yellow rice. My biggest complaint with the hot bar is the food wasn't hot. Perhaps is I had taken it from the bottom it would have been better. However, the flavors were there and the food was cooked nicely. My other issue is the food bar in my opinion is a bit pricey. 14.99/ pound with credit card and 14.48/pound with cash. I guess this should be expected in NYC since everything is expensive. There's a nice area to eat, but there were several tables that needed to be cleaned and during the hour we were there no one came to wipe them down. Outside of the food bar this is a regular mini market serving your basic needs in food drink. I love their drink selection. It's huge and you can get drinks that you may not see elsewhere. Did you know Tropicana has a delicious Pina Colada drink? The store also has a decent layout. It's easy to move throughout the store and lighting is great. They sit on the corner and they have bar stool sitting along the windows. This place is worth a try if you want to get a quick bit that nit traditional fast food. read more

The bowl bar is very good, You select your toppings, protein and sauce. It is a hearty portion and a reasonable price for midtown NYC. Also available are a variety of meal and snacking items . I have been going to the Gastro Market for quite a while. I have eaten at many buffets in the area and I have to say their food is fresh and delicious. I like their ribs, sesame chicken, pernil, teriyaki chicken and coconut shrimp. It's more expensive than others but you truly get what you pay for. Every time I come here, something happens that infuraties me. Guess it's my own fault for thinking anything would change. Cons: - They charge more if you use a credit/debit card - The buffet costs way more than other deli/buffets in the area - The register staff is unorganized and are busy chatting and not checking out customers, or you wait on line for 5 minutes with no help only for them to tell you that the register is closed - The soup is exorbitantly priced compared to every buffet and the nearby Pret. - They card machine asks if you want to add tip, even though someone only rang up your overpriced grocery items. Got food poisoning from salad bar - while eating there. Told cashier, who then told then chef -- but the chef told me it was impossible. I said, sir, I just had to RACE to your bathroom while eating & was in there over ten minutes -- and I am concerned if this happened to someone elderly or weakened it could be very bad. I advised him of thee three uncooked salad items I had eaten & said I suspected the spinach. He said it was simply not possible and left all those food items out for other customers. The store also has a good selection of beer and otherproducts. The pricing is just silly though, and you could get everything cheaper at other stores in the area. Terrible. Awful. The food is so bad and the prices so unreasonable that Gastro Market is basically a scam. How they get Caesar Salad to taste like shredded plastic bags is beyond me. Twice I've given this place a chance, trying several different items in addition to the aforementioned salad, and not a single selection would be worth it at 1/3rd of the price. Whoever is in charge here should be ashamed. Alas if there's so much foot traffic that the business model IS to overcharge for nearly inedible food, then congratulations you've done it. I work in the area and frequently come here for breakfast and lunch from their buffet. Tbh I really love it but as the menu rotates I sometimes get if I see something I like, and other times I exit and come back another day. Personally I do think the food is pretty bomb. Their fried chicken is always good and the pork shoulder en salsa verde is good af. It is a bit pricy but realistically why would you need to eat over a pound of food? I usually get around 1/2lb or close to 1 and always get super full from it. I also like the mashed potato's and I mostly go bc there's a lot of green options in the buffet such as Brussels sprouts that are amazing, green beans, sautéed spinach, cauliflower and a salad bar. I don't love the premade salads except the one with berries and goat cheese (that one slaps.) and I'm not a huge fan of the Mac n cheese. But the ribs, the salmon, the mash, are delicious. If you don't like it it's bc you're prob heavy handed and arrive at a later time (they start to put lunch out at 11am so ofc it may be warm by 3pm.) but yeah I do like it tbh I would def recommend for those days you are sick of eating the same shxt bc here there's options. They also have a lot of bevs and snacks (I don't buy grocery items here so never had an issue with prices being off.) but yeah I like getting the grape sac sacs which you don't find everywhere in manhattan and I've tried the BEC from here and it was really decent and big so it's a nice breakfast option. Another tourist trap. Knowing the business is a stone's throw from several hotels with tourists who come with the preconceived notion NYC is very expensive, Gastro Market seems to have felt no shame in pricing their offerings so that the tourists who eat there won't feel differently about NYC upon leaving. Yes, the market is well stocked with a variety of food. But aside from the high prices, the store is in need of a new manager as far as organizing and training the staff is concerned. This morning, I was on a three person line to buy one of their over-priced croissants. Five minutes went by as I watched the staff member in the middle of making coffee for another customer (why this was taking so long is beyond me). I became increasingly frustrated because there were two other staff members behind the other register who did not call anyone over. They seemed to be more interested in having a personal conversation. Then, at long last, the word "next" was finally heard from the two. So, rather than continue to wait for the first order to finally complete, I quickly walked over to pick up two yogurts and made my way over to the other cash register. No sooner had I gotten there, things became complicated yet again. The other employee needed help with the order she was about to ring up. And this conversation went on for at least a minute. At this point I gave up, left the two yogurts at the cash register, and walked out. I don't plan to ever return here. A previous time I was here, there wasn't even anyone at the second register. The first employee I mentioned earlier was the only one making orders and ringing customers up. This isn't any way to run a business if you want customers to keep coming back. Really good hot food bar. Sometimes it's more pricey than a meal somewhere cause of all the choices they have, you pile your plate up. You pay by the weight of your plate. Everything looks pretty fresh. I come here during my breaks every other day. It's just more convenient when you're on a time crunch but good thing everything is flavorful. They have a lot of grocery selections like specialty Asian food items I don't see in most markets. Also, check out the deli counter, which is also really good. I can no longer remain silent. I would give this place 5 stars for (usually) fresh food so long as you go during the peak lunch and dinner hours. I'd also give them 5 stars for cleanliness. What weighs it all the way down to 1 star is their unethical business practice. I have seen other customers have issues, but I will only share my own--they do not honor the listed price for goods. While most businesses honor the listed price, this place never does. I have had this happen numerous times to me, but enough is enough now. The store is relatively new to the area, and I can understand some growing pains. I have been a regular patron to this store, but over the past couple of months, they began to raise prices. Now, I don't mind if you raise the prices and list the prices correctly on the shelves. However, they raise the prices without either correcting the list prices, or they are even raising it more at the register after customers have picked out their items. The first couple of times was "OK" with me since I wanted this business to succeed, but now it's been more times than I can count. They argue about the listed price labels not being correct. If that's the case, they should fix them and not charge customers the higher price until they fix them. This is poor business ethics, and for this reason, I will never ever step foot in this place again. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I liked it went it first opened , but since then I had 2 sandwiches that were wrong , the guy who cooks did not know what a bacon lettuce and tom sandwich is , A BLT is hard to mess up , but I blame that on the worker not speaking good English , I bought grated cheese , that was cheap and two weeks later it had green mold and I looked at the date and it was expired , so I would suggest you check dates , it is nice for coffee but they mess that up too , again poor English , a convenient place to go to , but outside on the side there is all garbage that needs to be swept up alongside the building, I noticed they removed outdoor seating probably because it attracted undesirable people and garbage. I noticed that the beautiful overpriced plants they had in window were dying from not being watered, which is sad, so I see the place sliding already, I think they need a good manager , they need to hire better workers that can at least speak English. read more
