I was disappointed by how spicy my gyro sandwich was. I've never had a spicy gyro before so it didn't occur to me to confirm that it would be mild. I wish they would have warned me that the standard was with extra spices added. I'm currently picking off as many red chili flakes as I can so that I can eat my food. Came here because of the good reviews and also because of our vegetarian friend so this place had sections for us meat eaters and our brontosaurus friend :) we ordered the combination plate, one with lamb and chicken and the other with steak and chicken. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this place was because being from NY, we also had really good Mediterranean food. The lamb meat here was phenomenal. It was so flavorful and yummy. Next time, I'm just going to order lamb lol. The chicken was pretty good also. It wasn't dry or anything. Everything was pretty flavorful and good. The combination plates come with rice, salad, the meats. We tried checking in for the free lentil soup after spending $20, but they didn't have lentil soup so they were nice enough to give us 3 free falafel balls instead. I usually get the combo gyro and it's delicious when the older gentleman is working. He is very kind and offers us samples. However, the last few times I've went there's been different employees and my order has been wrong, extremely sloppy, and lacking the same freshness as before. They always forget our fries, add ingredients I request to be removed, and last time even put the wrong meat in my gyro! The place was empty so clearly someone is not reading the orders properly. GATERS was recommended to me by my Co-worker after I shared a travel experience of mine. I love traveling and trying different meals. One of my favorite past times was when i visited the middle east( Jordan & Duabi) the people were loving and so welcoming. So of course I had to try the food. It was simply amazing!!!!!!! Eating the Mediterranean combination plate from Gaters brought back so many good memories. It was as if I took a trip back to the middle east sitting at a 5 star restaurant outside under an umbrella enjoying the weather the beautiful people and the amazing meal. I order through yelp, got to your store and your one of your customer service guys tells me that he didn't read our order. I went to pay we pointed out we order extra fries, lamb and chicken. Super rude cashier. When we walked in, he was sitting at one of the tables and gave a deep sigh which indicated he was irritated that customers were coming in. The guy at the grill, although he didn't speak, was smiling and appeared friendly. Again, back to the cashier, ugh!!! When I ordered a gyro, he said, you mean "Jy-roh." Well, even though that's not the way it's pronounced, I don't think correcting the customers (incorrectly) is the best plan. He appeared irritated that he had to take our order. While we were eating, someone called in and he was super rude to them as well. They wanted to place an order and he did what he could to discourage them. Then, there's the food. It's about time I start again and what better time to write a review is the motivation which comes from great food. I have known this place for years and today was my first time giving them a try. Here's the two things that this place motivated me to write again. ONE, the cook is very friendly, I see a shine or a glow around him (okay, my exaggeration felt that way). Will not be back here. I ordered my niece a burger and asked them to put no cheese and mayo. I made sure to tell them twice that she was allergic to both and to be careful. They bring her burger and naturally I double check and it had both mayo and cheese. I take it back to the counter and reminded them AGAIN that she was allergic. They take the burger and change the patty and use the same bun which had the mayo on it. So again, I take the burger to the counter and asked them why they would use the same bun with the mayo after I told them she was allergic, twice. The management or owners get no stars. The poor dude was still smiling and running 100 miles an hour. I like the food here! I always get a chicken plate, but the combo plate is good too. It seems like the regular chicken plate and Mediterranean chicken plate are different b/c the Mediterranean has mushrooms and extra onions. They recently added sizes to their plates so that there's S, M, and L. Not sure what the original portion size converts to now, but I enjoyed eating the small size. Definitely filled me up! Wouldn't recommend eating inside. Not a great restaurant environment but you definitely can eat inside if you really wanted to. read more

What's happening to my favorite spot :(!!! The service is getting really bad and wait times are becoming longer and longer. I'm under the impression they are probably under new management?? Last year I knew everyone that worked there and now they have all new people that aren't really cutting it. The food is becoming blander and portion sizes have become smaller over the years. I really miss the old staff because they were soo sweet and genuine and I feel the new people here don't have that same touch. How great is it when you poke your head into a business not knowing if it's closed or not and be invited in by the ower who takes your order and makes your food himself even though they are closed and have cleaned up for the night? That is what happened last night when I showed up with a friend after wandering around Fremont trying to decide where we wanted to eat. He not only invited us in and cooked for us himself but he was damn happy to do it. He went as far as to engage us in lighthearted conversation to keep us entertained while our food was cooking. The guy was genuinely happy to have us there even though we were keeping him from getting home a little later than usual. The gyro that he made me was great with plenty of tsazaki sauce. I had my own little bukkzaki show right there in the shop. Oh did I fail to mention he didn't even insist on serving up our food in "to go" boxes? He let us sit down while they finished closing up shop and never rushed us to get out. The galic chicken wrap that my dining companion had was delish. If you love garlic I think that is the way to go at this place. They have pictures of everything on their menu so you can see how good your food is going to be before you order it. It's nice that you can buy your wraps solo or as a combo with drink and fries (or baklava) for a little extra. I've rarely felt as disrespected at any establishment as I did at Gaters. I felt so steamed about how they treated me there that its taken a number of months for me to even write this review. My boyfriend was a regular there for awhile; their location is convenient and their shawarma is decent. We went a handful of times before we were both extremely fed up. The first couple of times the guy working there was pretty friendly to both of us, although he pretty immediately started in with teasing me and trying to buddy up to my man. You know, the "let's gang up on your girlfriend because we're so macho" type-deal. I can take a little gently ribbing; I didn't think much about it at first. My boyfriend asked if I was bothered and I said, come on - I'm a big girl, I can take it. However, around our 3rd or so visit, he started making pretty inappropriate jokes, such as "you guys are still together?!" and rolling his eyes at my boyfriend in reference to me, when I ordered. When it progressed to rude gestures behind my back, we stormed out. My boyfriend was getting ready to go back and confront them, but I said let's just go! The guys (or at least that particular man) at Gaters are misogynist a**holes, that's about all there is to it. Why this happened to me in particular, I have no idea...could it be because I was wearing a Jewish star one day when I was in there? I hate to make racial/ethnic assumptions, but I was nothing but friendly and polite when in there, so I can't imagine why they would single me out. They're jerks; we'll obviously never go back there. First off i have to mention that I am on the 3rd day of a 4 day fast, so I came just to check it out for the future. About 10 seconds after I walked in with my friends, Tarik threw 2 wraps on the flat top for an order and it immediately took me back to Germany at the turkish places. The smell was overwhelmingly delicious and I couldnt help but just stand there and stare at the chicken and lamb on their spits. Tarik saw how I was gawking and took it upon himself to offer me a small plate of both the chicken and the lamb. Despite my fast I couldn't turn down such a generous offer so I took a few bites and shared with my friends. It was easily the best chicken I have had in a long time and it will be the first place I go after my fast.
