Business owner was rude when asked about bread choices...told me why don't I look at what's on the shelf behind the counter along the side wall. Couldn't be bothered to answer. Love these old school sandwich deli spots. I had a hot BBQ chicken sandwich and a peach smoothie for dine-in which came out to around $20 with taxes included. After lines, I also ordered a cheesecake and baklava dessert which came out to around $6 with taxes included. Worth tipping something here. Everything tasted great! I used to go to this deli when I was in high school and would always get the spicy bbq chicken sandwich. The other day I was driving by and just had to try it again. It's been over 15 years and the place is still how I remember it, with the same owner! I got the same sandwich and boy was it delicious and just how I remembered. They have a wide variety of items on their menu; such as sandwiches (hot & cold), soup, burgers, gyro, fish & chips, falafels, hot dogs, salads, nachos, fries, etc. Their prices are fair too. Some of my favorite items I've gotten was their salmon burger and their soup & sandwiches. They were both delicious and I would order these again; although I would be interested in trying out their other items too. Since it's located right across from Ohlone College, finding parking could be hard when classes are in session. There is street parking, or you can park in the parking lot that is located behind the building. I was in the area for an appt close by. Decided to check out this little dive to support local businesses. It's overwhelming when you first walk-in. So much stuff. And signs. Ok, Hmm. Not a Do-Over. My friend wanted the French dip and I had the pastrami. Also ordered fries and shakes. By the time I ordered, a line had formed and it became apparent that there was a large order that had been called in before I arrived. The older worker had taken my order and his son came in and I paid him. For starters, the son wasn't wearing a mask. The father had his down to his chin and sometimes let it come up to his mouth. I should've just left. During this time of COVID, I'm cautious about these things. They weren't warm and friendly. Quite frankly, the son looked...hungover or stoned... the food was $41 and change. I had $40 cash motioned to the son, cash or card. He asked his father if 40 would be ok and he said no. Ok, that's fine. It's business. It took almost 30 minutes to get our food. When we ate, they weren't delicious. I only ate half the sandwich, which was large I must add. So the serving size was great, just the flavor wasn't appealing. My friend didn't like her sandwich, either. I don't remember why. The fries and shakes were good. Try the banana! However, I won't be going back. read more

For less that $10 you can get a cheap and satisfying meal. $8.99 for a Combo meal (sandwich + drink + side) OR $6.99 for an individual sandwich. 1. Roast Beef - I loved how juicy this sandwich was, literally beef "juice" dripping down the side as the bread soaks it all up. The mozzarella cheese was a really nice touch because it made the sandwich more satisfying to bite into. 2. BBQ Beef - This is a pretty solid sandwich! I love how all the vegetables cut down all the fat and saucy-ness of the beef, but I think adding cheddar cheese on it is a bit much. Once again, so fresh and so tasty! 3. Potato Salad - I love how big the chunks of potato were. Very well incorporated with the mayonnaise. I decided hunkering for some french fries and cheese and happen to be around the area working. First of all their fries are not fried and they're frozen and toasted. Then he automatically charged me for a large not asking what size, which being new to the place, I'd have no idea. Price I got were not really hot, kind of mushy and generally ugh. What a waste. The food was good from what I recalled. Service seems good. I do have one complaint which is that the soda from their fountain machine is not very good. I bought a small soda size of coke. I was drinking the coke and the taste was very weak it tasted like it was watered down or it has been sitting in the machine for so long it lost a lot of its carbonation and the flavor is weaker than Pepsi. I have a picture of the coke and I don't recall coke being brown : ( When you go here remember that the fountain machines with the beverages are mediocre at best. After my daughter's volleyball game, I decided to take the back roads home to avoid the freeway traffic. This was conveniently located on our way home and there was parking right in front of the Deli. We ordered the Fish & Chips, Hot Dog, and Soda. My Fish & Chips came with SPOILED ketchup and tartar sauce. The smell and look of it sicken me, so I questioned the tartar sauce too. It didn't look spoiled but the thought was in my head so I just left it alone. At first glance, the Fish & Chips looked really good, however, they were tasteless. I wish I had trusting tartar sauce to dip them in, instead, I had to drench the Fish in vinegar to give it some flavor. On a good note, the fries were crispy and good. This was my first time at Ohlone Deli. Mr. Moostache looked very depressed and didn't care to greet us. I think he was the only one working at that time. After taking our order, he proceeded to make our food without washing his hands or putting on any gloves. There were flies buzzing around everywhere. The pepper jack cheese displayed in the front was moldy...so you can imagine why I started to feel a little concerned about food safety. I ordered a chicken pyro thingie meal with water, which he poured from the sink. (I should've just stuck with bottled.) He opened a grill to put my chicken on there and it was already dirty...he then proceeded to transfer it to the prep table on a plate that was already dirty with other food particles. He picked up the lettuce, tomatoes and onion with his bare fingers. I am surprised he used a scooper for the sour cream (or whatever it was)! I was very skeptical of eating the gyro but I was sooooo hungry, I just said "f*** it". This review is getting 3 starts because the gyro was really delicious. I just hope my immune system can handle all the germs. Completely disgusted on how food was handled though. I won't ever be back. Also, the cleanliness of this place utterly irks me.
