Indo-Chinese food is pretty good but many of the dishes seemed to have the same exact flavor/sauce base and were not unique. Clearly the menu is too repetitive and can be trimmed down a bit. It is rare that I refuse to eat a dish. We came here for dinner. And ordered the spicy chili corn, vegetable coins in Manchurian sauce 'top seller' and the tofu in Szechuan sauce. The review is not lower, because the chili corn was crispy and the tofu was good though the sauce did not taste anything of Szechuan. What a great experience! The staff were so helpful, it was our first time here and they were checked in on us regularly. They were also helpful on how much each order would serve. The place was super clean! They even have a cute robot that brings some of the dishes to you! It was pretty cool that they were playing the soccer game there! The place I meant to eat lunch at was permanently closed and this Indo Chinese restaurant seemed intriguing. It's in a shopping area with easy parking. The restaurant is clean and was pretty quiet on a Thursday afternoon. They have a lunch special that has both vegetarian and meat options where you get an appetizer, main and rice or noodles. They ask about heat level and I got medium to play it safe. I didn't realize that all the chicken and fish would be in a batter and fried and seasoned with different sauces. We could have asked probing questions about the unfamiliar dishes so I guess that was on us. The menu only listed the items without descriptions. I got 'dry fish', which came with a lot of veg and it tasted nice, but there was as much batter as fish. The kappa noodles were absolutely nothing to write home about, and the chicken had a lot of batter and a nondescript sauce. I've never had Manchurian chicken; maybe it's supposed to be bland. There was a little pot of green chilis in vinegar that made the chicken taste better. An egg roll was a surprise on the plate. They took about 30 minutes to arrive, but they were absolutely worth the wait. If you're planning to order them, I'd recommend placing that order early. We also tried a couple of soups, and both were mediocre and definitely not worth the price. The Curry Rice Noodles were the biggest disappointment. They tasted almost entirely of oil and lacked any real flavor. The Schezwan Fried Rice was decent, though nothing particularly memorable. To end on a high note, we had the Coconut Mango Mousse Cake for dessert, and it was excellent. It was easily the best dish of the meal and something I'd happily order again. Everybody has a bias for food from the part of the world they are from. I'm no different. When it comes to Indo-Chinese I really have no tolerance for South Indian style Indo-Chinese. It has to be Bombay or at the least Calcutta style. Last night after zumba class all I could think about was veg Hakka noodles! Having eaten at their San Carlos location, I knew my minimum expectations would be met. We ordered the veg Hakka noodles and chicken in Manchurian sauce. And really this place serves flavors that are closest to the food you get in Mumbai. We liked the flavors so much we ordered an egg fried rice and that dish delivered on taste too! Service was ok, but I feel it could be better if we had arrived a little earlier. Pretty much all of the staff was trying to clean up and leave for the night, and that's understandable. Joe our server did not rush us and actually took time out to chat with us before heading back to closing up for the night. The old fashioned that the husband ordered from the bar was at best a 3/5, and perhaps management can look into that. Restrooms were clean and the dining area was also well appointed and pleasantly reminiscent of Chinese restaurants in Bombay.
