Went and got the regular sized combo gyro, it was amazing! Fresh, hot and the portion was wayyyy more than I needed or expected. Definitely didn't walk out hungry. We also got the seasoned fried which are nice because you shake on some seasoning by yourself and can season it up just the right amount! A small hole in the wall of a strip mall with 3 tables, a counter and a rotisserie of chicken and beef. I had the beef steak wrap while my co-worker had the garlic chicken. They have a combo where you get the wrap, a soda and baklava for about $7. The baklava was actually pretty good by not being too sweet and maintaining a crisp texture. Unhygienic!! They don't use gloves even on a regular basis - the cashier handles money and other things while setting up the lavash bread and toppings. This review is not reflective of the food. The food here is amazing! If I can rate the food alone, I'd give it 4 stars. This review only reflects the unbelievably rude customer service that I've ever experienced from 1 particular employee here. I've ordered from here a handful of times and the employees here are fairly nice - your average customer service experience that you'd find from an establishment like this. I eat out nearly everyday with my girlfriend and I have a really high tolerance for people. I usually almost never write yelp reviews... I don't think I ever have. However, the customer service experience I had the other day with this guy enticed me to write this. All that being said, the interaction I had with him was the simple: walk in, order, and go. His attitude was unprovoked... I didn't have any problems with the order. I didn't ask him a million questions about the menu. I noticed the rude tone right as he started talking, which really threw me off at first. Then, as our interaction continued, it seemed as if he was getting more and more annoyed for no reason. The manner this cashier talked to me was as if I was a complete idiot and everything he said to me was with heavy attitude and rudeness. Seriously wtf bro??? You got a stick up your ass or something? What's your problem? I get it that we all have bad days. If that's the case, don't take it out on your customers, especially if I'm simply just coming in and ordering like normal. You're the cashier on duty to this little restaurant. You're the person to interact with customers walking in. That means, that for your shift, you're the face of the establishment. You're expected to uphold some standards. I'm not looking for the chick-fil-a style "let me kiss your feet" type of customer service. If you're having a shitty day, just provide the bare minimum, no BS, type of proper service. Done deal. I'm fine with that. Don't talk to your customers in a really strong condescending type of manner like they're idiots. I was literally on my last straw with him. I would've confronted him about his attitude problem if our interaction somehow continued. I'll admit, I'll be returning here from time to time. The food is great. However, if I come here and see this same guy behind the counter, I'm walking right back out the door. It could've just been that 1 particular day or maybe that's how he is everyday. Gaters has been a one-hit-wonder for me...meaning, I've only had one item from their menu which is the Steak Gyro (ok two, if you count the fries) and it keeps me coming back here again and again. The fries are excellent - always fresh, crisp and perfect! As laid back as it gets, this spot is small but comfy...the vibe from the workers is always warm and the guy who usually mans the register (I think the owner) seems to remember all his customers from their first visit. Small, family owned, without a lot of space, but it's good for a causal, quick lunch. I avoid peak times because I don't want to have to take my food to go and let it get cold if there's no seating. Also, the parking lot can be kind of crazy (I guess less so now without Barnes and Noble..) I love the traditional rotating meat that they slice off in the traditional shawarma style. Falafel is also good freshly fried, and I like their plates (with cucumber salad, creamy hummus, etc). I get everything without yogurt sauce, but that's just my dislike of white sauces. We went here because of 4 stars on yelp. We were disappointed in every way. The 2 guys at the counter were asking personal questions rather than paying attention to the order.They spoke very loudly while we were seated.We then saw the place was pretty dirty, so we changed our order to take out. They even missed packing 1 item and we had to point it out to them. We ordered a veggie plate and a wrap. The wrap was just layers n layers of bread and hardly any filling in it! It had very low quality lettuce in it and the tomatoes were pale pink and almost raw! The veggie plate was most ordinary tasting and the ingredients seemed of a low quality.We ended up wasting our food and went to a different place to eat. I just had THEE worst customer service experience EVER!!! My First and unfortunately last time here, I had an awesome experience. The guy who rang me up was great. Very nice and the food was great. I ate the food at my desk and my coworkers all said it smelled delicious. So I had a small meeting at work (11 people attending) and I thought of this place for lunch. I got everyone's orders and my coworker TRIED to call in the order. The guy who picked up the phone sounded like he didn't even know where he was!!!! She told me she tried to place an order and the guy kept saying what? who are you trying to call? and every order she put in the guy sounded CLUELESS to what she was saying. She got frustrated and said all the orders are on your menu, so why can't you understand what I'm trying to order?!? She eventually finished the order (20 min later) Just as we thought we were in the clear, she gets a phone call from another guy (Note both guys barely spoke/understood English) asking what our orders were, did we want fries or rice or steak or chicken...? WTF? Do you not know your own "restaurant's" menu? So I called and for the person I spoke to last time (I had his business card). They said he wasn't there and wouldn't be in for the day. I asked for someone who understood English better that could take our order he handed the phone to someone speaking gibberish. I could not make out any words. The other guy took back the phone and said he'd call his manager to call us to take the order and he would translate. I was FED up and said 'No, I don't want your manager to call, Cancel the orders if you took any down.' The manager did end up calling us back apologizing and asking what our orders were. We told him we ordered food somewhere else. Errrr.....SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!! I was really hoping they had their stuff together because my company would have given them PLENTY of repeat business and we have visitors who frequently come in from out of state and we could have suggested this place. Always always and I mean always! double check your orders !! 5/5 times I've came, I always leave with something missing from my order. Last few times, I was able to catch their mistake from giving me the wrong order to forgetting my combination wrap, but this time I had to rush out and trusted that they got it right - especially if the woman manager (owner) shouted my order to them 6 times. The time, they forgot to include my side order of fries that I paid $2.77 for AND my order of combination plate and combination wrap with extra meat turned into just regular orders of chicken. well the recent yelp reviews are correct, during 'rahmadan' they are claiming that this groupon is not valid, and said come back in July... I said, " you gonna do business like that?!" "you are not going to honor your groupon", guy said no, in July, he said during Ramadan we don't honor it b/c we are busy. I said, 'I'm the only one in this freaking restaurant right now, how busy are you?!" the owner stepped trying to convince me and said, you didn't see the black out date on the groupon? I said "no" and she pointed at a sign that said order for rahmadan online...and that's it. Then she says, "I've told groupon to cancel or put a blackout date," like I'm suppose to believe that one. Well just not buying any of her "reasons" and giving my this is "bad business" face, she finally gave in and said, give him the order he is getting upset... Then I ordered and said, let me get some kabob plates, he says, "We are out of Kabos." Gee how convenient... I order some other meat plate and left not wanting to stick around too long. I gave them 2 star b/c the food didn't suck and it was a cheap price with the groupon, and they finally gave in after fought with them, so yes I am fair.... This review is for the customer service. The food is good but the place doesn't look very clean to be completely honest. I got my food quickly but my friend waited forever and eventually had to ask the guy for her food and he completely forgot about her order. I understand they were very busy when my friend and I went. He finally came with her order, & rushed away without even asking her if everything was okay and saying sorry. I could clearly see her wrap was just thrown together and quickly made without any consideration. He had forgotten her side of fries and when she got up to tell him he didn't even apologize. They had to make the fries and by the time we got them she had finished 80% of her food. To make it worse the fries were really oily and nasty! Overall it was just one annoying thing after another. I ordered a chicken gyro with no tomatoes and a chicken wrap with two orders of fries. (I should of unlocked the free hummus offer where you get some if you spend $15+. I paid $18) The cashier didn't communicate my entire order with the chef causing an error in my order. My gyro came with tomatoes and our fries were forgotten. I told the chef we didn't get our fries and so he gave me one order of fries... I came back in to tell him that I ordered two orders and he said he put them together when clearly you can tell it was just one order of fries and he didn't want to fry some more which was not fine but whatever it's Monday... There's no better kabob place in the area. The gyros here are simply amazing. The steak gyro in particular is well worth the $6 or so they charge for it. There's plenty of meat inside, and the meat is juicy and delicious. I use to love this place but lately they have new cooks and employees who have not been properly trained. Yesterday i went in for lunch and the lady who i ordered from messed up my order. I asked for a combo gyro with no onion and received a lamb gyro with onion. I took the gyro back to the cook and waited outside. He came himself and gave it to me; when i open it i was so groosed out to see a soggy wrap with cold meat in it and nasty cooked lettuce with no sauce at all. I dont know if he gave me the same wrap he did before just added other meat to it or if he gave me a left over wrap or maybe someone returned my original wrap and it had be sitting there. I usually get the combination plate, so I can feel a little "healthier" going with some chicken. The first place was underwhelming, despite having an authentic atmosphere. The second place, gave me an unnecessarily long bathroom break after I got back in the office... :(. Off of Yelp reviews we decided to try out this little place. The food was good. We both decided on the combination plate - spicy. The spice added a kick without it being too spicy. It came with gyro and chicken on top of rice, salad, pita and what I will call tzatziki (sp?) sauce. We will have to try the baklava next time.
