Clean store, wide aisles, big shelves...Didn't have l was looking for (Weller, Eagle Rare, Yamazaki, Crown Peach, Roses SB) but the lady clerk was very nice and friendly..even got out of her register to look in the aisle when I showed her my list, when she had a hard time Moving about..would definitely come back again to this store! read more

My wife and I like to joke that the employees here I'll probably sampling the wares in the back, because they are always in such a good mood! They also have a really great selection and better hours the most other liquor stores in a 10 mile radius. Everything you'd want in a neighborhood liquor store. The staff are always friendly and helpful with recommendations, etc. During my most recent visit, a woman who was stocking the shelves stopped and talked to me for 5-10 minutes offering some helpful suggestions of newer bourbons I'd never tried... got 'em home and they're great! I was impressed overall with the selection including some great bourbon store picks and a fairly extensive offering of scotches. It's my go-to store in Portland. read more

Love that this place is on Public Transit, and right next to a for Real store called what it offers: Affordable Furniture. Freddies and a Winco Discount store are nearby in this get-it-all area too, along with Circuit City and at least one other major electronics store. Are you hooked up with HDTV bling yet? You can get your Vodka, buffet, and Converter Boxes in one stop. Rght here. In contrast to Andrew's comment, prices tend to be consistent at Oregon Liquor Stores. This is a rather stable, regulated industry. I'm not in the market for distilled beverages often. WAY less than most folks, but each time I've gone no matter what store, I found sales, specials and Rebate forms, and at Gateway staff helped me find a variety of inexpensive decent quality Vodkas to stock up for a long winter of hosting, and a possible Tasting Party. I did get a rebate Check for $15 for the Pinnacle Vodka I bought that day...which made it: Free. WOOT! The men staff were approachable and professional. I LIKED THAT THEY DIDN'T TRY TO HIDE Tattoos or Amusement. As a woman dropping in alone to a Liquor Store (and frankly, no expert on hard hooch - except big Beers) one can feel intimidated by the array of offerings, but Staff made that easier...without making me uncomfortable. I've got the Vodkas. Most of it is still on the Bar, and I plan to return for another Theme purchase sometime this winter. Might need a bigger Liquor Cabinet. ___ Staff made a point of identifying the Pacific NW-made Vodka, a factor I appreciate very much,- to support local biz. #23, and 77 buses stop outside, and the 15 and 22 are at the corner. Bring a sturdy reuseable bag - especially if you walk, bike or Bus. I say this because recently a bottle of wine fell right thru one of the cheapo plastic Freddies grocery bags I'd been given - since it was an impromptu shopping drop-by on the way home. A good Red boinked and broke, making a sticky mess on the sidewalk, on me, and the stuff i toted. Driversd honked, people waved. I was helpless. ( yes, I was sober, but with arms loaded, could do nothing to stop it. i siphoned off the Bad Luck, so Buy stuff at Gateway anyhow) read more

For the moron that named himself as Andrew F. that wrote the review about Gateway Liquor, my comment to you is... "All liquor stores are governed by the State of Oregon and the prices are going to by very similar if not identical and very high. Oregon feels that it is a good idea to tax all alcohol and sets the rate at a relatively high mark. You are not going to find much difference in prices between any liquor store unless they are taking a loss in profit, so...It is not a Portland thing, it is an Oregon thing and you Sir are an idiot! As for the customer service, perhaps if you did not have your under age friends waiting for you outside the store, the clerks will be nicer to you. All of the employees who work here are Ok (one young man is especially nice) except one in particular. A middle-aged woman with a trollish looking face who obviously hates her life saited on me today. My husband told be about a really horrible experience he had with her several months ago, where she made a rude comment to him and was picking her butt while waiting on him. I shrugged this off (had a good laugh aboutthe butt picking part), and continued to occasionally come in the store, but I can tell you I will never frequent the store again after today. This woman had the audacity to complain about me being in the store while she complained the young man was letting customers in (they closed 1 minute prior to me entering the store). She was so incredibly rude and mumbled under her voice the entire time. Plus this store had the worst selection and are always out of products and do not carry hardly any mixers. I'll be visiting Rose City Liquor for now on!! read more
