The seafood was super fresh and well prepared the seafood (not over cooked). This is the most reasonably priced seafood we've had in Acadia National Park vicinity. In the lobster bisque, the lobster meat was plentiful, juicy and sweet. I wish I had more room to try the blueberry pie, but I'll have to try next time I come back! Pick your own lobster! The lobster tanks were so fun. The clam dinner looked good, I am all about the lobster. I ordered a soft shell lobster dinner which came with corn and coleslaw. I also purchased blueberry pie and got it with vanilla ice cream. The soft shell lobster was DELICIOUS! The only difference was it was significantly cheaper and had quite a bit more liquid inside. The meat was so good! The blueberry pie was excellent. I recommend staying and eating outdoors at one of the tables. The mess you make can be easily handled. We were in town visiting and decided to go to Happy Clam Shack at the recommendation of some locals. Wow was it a great decision! The restaurant itself is an unassuming "shack" on the side of the road, with seating outside as picnic tables under some umbrellas. At the request of the restaurant I did not take photos of the menu, but they were running a GREAT deal on soft shell lobster when we were there (I think it was $5.99/lb). The lobster was freshly cooked and the crab roll was stuffed full of crab and so flavorful! I especially enjoyed the clams. We ordered a few meals as well and they came with butter which complimented the seafood nicely. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the clam chowder-- it was pretty watery and we just weren't huge fans of it. The staff were very friendly and all in all it was a great experience. It was pouring when we arrived and it turned out there was no eat in. However they obligingly let us eat along the takeout counter which was pretty darn small! It was cozy and fun. Here I had my absolute favorite lobster roll of the trip. Sweet as can be and billowing with chunks. The blueberry pie which is homemade by the owner, was super! The best dessert of our trip. These two totally made my day. The chowder, had big clam pieces, but the flavor was not as flavorful as others I tried. I would say it was decent. Maybe the potatoes were cut too big and made it taste a little bland. It was fun to have the lobster and crab tanks right there cos my kid enjoyed staring at them. We were in the mood for lobster rolls, and couldn't decide between here and another place 4 miles down the road, and decided to try here first - buying into the hype about awesome prices, huge portions, and stellar customer service from other previous reviews. Stopped in at 3 pm on a Wednesday afternoon on our way back from Acadia. Price-wise: at least today, I would not say the price for lobster rolls was cheaper than the place up the road. There's a sign posted here asking that we don't post menu photos online so I won't, but I WILL say that a regular lobster roll w/ coleslaw and chips OR a mini-lobster roll (half-sized) with a cup of chowder or bisque (and chips) were the same price here - and the same price as the most expensive "house special lobster roll" down the road (a standard hot or cold lobster roll is a couple dollars LESS there). I bought the mini-lobster roll with bisque. Flavor-wise: it was good, but nothing special. Warm toasted roll filled with a very generous portion of lobster meat and minimal (if any) mayo; no other seasonings I could detect. Lobster tasted fresh. Bisque was hot and creamy, also with generous chunks of lobster in it; a package of oyster crackers was included. The "chips" were a bag of Lay's potato chips. In contrast: the "house special lobster roll" down the road is made with a lemon garlic aioli, which really compliments the lobster - and comes with fresh handmade chips instead of pre-packaged ones. Service: today was nothing special. Lady behind the counter was polite/professional, but offered no suggestions/help and wasn't particularly friendly. Around 3:30 (while we were eating) they put a sign out front saying that they were closing at 4 pm today because of a staffing shortage. So I guess as other reviewers have observed: you may not get service at all if you come at an unlucky time. The mini-lobster roll here didn't quite scratch our itch, so we drove 4 miles down the road to try the "house special lobster roll" at the other place, and were much happier with that meal, service, and everything. read more

Vacationing in Maine, we were craving a good lobster roll and this is indeed a great place to get that or virtually any other seafood dish you wish. While ordering our rolls we noticed them cutting pieces of fresh blueberry pie, readying them for dessert. We later bought a slice and I have to say it was the very best either of us have ever had: Very little, if any, sugar was added and the crust was exceptionally light and flaky. All seating is outdoors; thankfully there's a huge area with plenty of picnic tables, each with their own umbrella for shade. The staff is very friendly; someone even came out to check that everything was perfect with our meals. I got the mini lobster roll with lobster bisque. I usually get a hot roll but so glad I tried something different. There was perfect amount of Mayo to not feel overwhelming and perfectly sweet lobster chunks. The bisque was filled with meat I was pleasantly surprised they did not hold back! LOVED Happy Clam. We came to Acadia to hike and had a really disappointing lobster roll experience at Side Street Cafe (cold and rubbery, not the flavor we were hoping for either). We decided to give seafood one more shot because we're in Maine, so we stopped by Happy Clam. The owners were SO nice and happy, explaining to us the difference between hard shell and soft shell lobsters, even coming out to check on us, and ending up teaching me how to get all the lobster meet out. Been coming here for several years because it's a family favorite. Today, however, after I tipped more than $20 on the iPad for counter service for three lunches, the older woman taking orders absolutely went off on my disabled sister when she politely asked if any butter could be served on the side. She kept escalating the issue and acted as if it was a major inconvenience, and said something like "I just can't believe that's what you're telling me." Seemed very unusual, but we thought maybe she was special needs or having a bad day. A few minutes later, she aggressively ran outside and berated several different tables as they attempted to raise the umbrellas that were stationed at the tables as it started to drizzle lightly, even climbing over their tables and aggressively undoing the hand crank. We watched her do this to at least three tables, and all the customers were astonished at her rudeness. Seems unusual to have umbrellas but not open them, and then to shout and stomp around rather than politely explain why they can't be opened. Seems like maybe she was having a mental breakdown of some sort and should have taken the day off. Doing two stars instead of one because this was an anomaly, but hopefully one the owner addresses. If not, be prepared to spend $30+ for a half sandwich and chips and really rude service. May or may not come back. read more

Words can not describe how pleased we were with our visit here. I was fresh off the plane and traveling with my mother in an RV. We hadn't had much to eat all day but knew we what was for dinner, Lobster Rolls. Without much planning this was a building that caught our eye and had our stomachs dreaming about dinner. After checking in at the BarHarbor Campground (check out this campground, although it's not on Yelp) we were off. This was the perfect first meal in Maine, the lobster rolls were huge, fresh, cooked to perfection and simple in the most mouthwatering way. My mother and I shared the Lobster Bisque and each had a roll to ourself. The meal was amazing and the shop owner, who was also tending the cash register, was very sweet and attentive. This place is both delicious and such a deal! Even this summer with the lobster price surge, we were able to get a lobster shore dinner (2 lobsters, 2 corns, 2 slaws) for just about $40 inclusive of tax & tip. Unreal. Especially after eating at other similar places on the island with much higher prices, this one is the one to beat. I'd highly recommend getting there at an odd time, or be prepared to wait. We went right at 3 PM (when they open) for a late lunch, and not only were we not the first ones there, but there were so many people piling in here after us. I can't even imagine what the wait/line must be like during actual dinner time. This place is sooo cute also from the outside, and there's also cornhole to play while you wait. They also have a full working sink to wash up before and after. Definitely a place to come back to.
