I almost never write reviews, but Matt and the Chef deserve some recognition! It was honestly hard finding good food in Jackson Hole as we are picky eaters, but this place was so good we came back twice. The fried chicken pasta was delicious - the chicken was sooo juicy. The truffle pasta was also really good. Matt works at the bar, and he made the whole experience even better. There wasn't a hostess when we walked in, but he noticed us and got us seated. We also ate at the bar another night and noticed how much he genuinely goes out of his way for everyone. Even if he's not your server, he makes sure you're taken care of. He handles negative situations really well too, even when things like food delays aren't his fault. Super friendly, great attitude, and just naturally good at what he does. Honestly, service at some other places in Jackson Hole has been pretty disappointing, so Matt really stood out and left a great impression on us. read more

So here's the scoop...37 of us swamped the restaurant at 5:30! Why? We were all on 6 day bus (which was great! The name is disguised as "an entry point with a first number") tour starting at Mt. Rushmore with multiple stops in between ending at the Grand Tetons. This was our final ending meal together. First, I know the management prepared for us. We had to select the entrees a couple of days before. Second, we were seated next to the circular wall towards the street, very accommodating. Noise factor was good to excellent because of the high ceilings (the industrial look you know with exposed duct work now popular.) Third, finally the food what you really want to know... All of us had the house salad. It was lightly dressed which I appreciated since some restaurants over dress or use a harsh vinaigrette. I had their beef steaks which the tour written description was a fillet, restaurant menu list as a ribeye. I 'm not going to complain because it was accurately seared. I asked for mine medium and another asked for medium well. Both were slightly under which was good. Presentation was excellent they did change from sweet potatoes to a couscous ( I think) which was a good switch and tasty. My spouse had the rainbow trout and it was amazing! It a good size, as again presentation was great! Tasted good too! Not dry. Another person had the truffle pasta and there was a poached egg on top. What a surprise! They said it tasted good! If you want someone on the other menu section of yelp list just what was offered to us with a detailed description.The dessert was their donut holes (very crispy and tasty) with three dipping sauces. The carrots were hard as a rock/undercooked while the udon were so overcooked they were gummy and inedible. It was also served with a weird side of dried out jalapeños..and I added shrimp (which needed flavor but was fine). When bartender asked if I liked it and I said no, and politely told him why, he was like I'll let the kitchen know. He was nice but clearly not aware of food preparation. I paid $95 dollars for the salad, the curry I didn't eat, and a glass of wine. Perhaps there are better items on the menu but these were not those. My friend and I were in Jackson Hole to snowboard and ski over Christmas. As such, we booked a Christmas dinner at Gather for $75/person. However, our Christmas dinner was lackluster and confusingly, perhaps even deceptively, presented. Upon walking in, we were immediately seated at the bar. Our waitress was extremely nice and attentive. Nevertheless, the problem arose when we tried to order our food. We each got our own respective menus, and the menus stated that we could order two appetizers. But when we tried to order our appetizers, we were told that each of us could only order one appetizer, and that the two starters referred to there being two appetizers when each person in our party ordered one appetizer. It was a similar story for the dessert. Each of our respective menus stated we could choose one dessert. But when we went to order our desserts, we were told we couldn't each choose a dessert; instead, we could only choose one dessert that we had to share. This is certainly confusing, possibly even deceptive, as you are not getting the amount of food you think you are paying for. As for the food, it was above average, but I definitely do not think it was worth $85. I felt that the Marinated Ribeye, which had a $10 surcharge, was oddly seasoned. There was an explosion of flavors that didn't seem to complement each other or fit the dish very well. Likewise, the Flourless Chocolate Cake was excessively sweet, much more so than the accompanying ice cream. Overall, I am pretty dissatisfied with Gather and would not recommend them for your Christmas dinner. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants I've had this year! The quality of the food was amazing and a lot is locally sourced. My favorites were the brussels sprouts, pork ribeye, and fried chicken. The pork was so incredibly tender and had a perfect grilled flavor. I expected it to be a drier/leaner cut like some pork loins I've had at other restaurants, but this blew my expectations out of the water. We came here with high hopes from all the great reviews. Everything we ordered was a let down. We got the bao buns - the pork belly was over cooked and dry, no flavor and the bao bun was mush. Not sure what the rave is all about since this is their popular item but... this was almost inedible. We ordered the bison short rib with farro "elote" and some chocolate mole. The whole dish was confused, bland, and flavors did not go well together. The short rib was cooked very well but the flavor of the mole / texture of the farro ruined the entire dish. It was a confused concept dish that did not taste good. Bulgogi shrimp bowl (forbidden rice bowl) was probably the better tasting dish of the night. The shrimp marinade was delicious and grilled perfectly. The rice was over cooked and mush with no flavor. It came with chili oil that had no flavor (needed salt and actual spice?) We had some great dishes, and a few not so great dishes, but overall would recommend trying this beautiful establishment. Staff was so sweet and friendly. Between the five of us we ordered several appetizers. Crispy brussels - 4/5, everyone loved the sweetness from the balsamic, and the added crunch from the pepitas. Wild mushroom toast with melted blues cheese 5/5, my personal favorite. If you love blue cheese (which I do!), you'll love this toast, so creamy, with grilled local bread and balsamic reduction, it went fast! House salad, 4/5, loved the goat cheese. Confit aleppo potatoes, 3/5, these are just okay, they came out cold, which was not good, so we asked to have them warmed, they graciously obliged, much better warm but still just okay. Entrees Seared Idaho trout. 4/5, loved that it was a good portion of fish, needed a little more seasoning, but when eaten with that parsnip puree it was delicious. Sweet corn curry, 5/5, we loved this dish. The chew from the noodles, he flavor of the sweet coconut curry, was perfect, get it! Elk bolognese- 3.5/5. If you like a heavy flavor of alcohol in your bolognese you'll love this, but it was a little too over powering for us. Again the house made pasta is incredible, perfectly cooked. Fried chicken; 4/5, a few of use loved the sweet and spiciness of this dish, and few did not like the sweet. Personally I loved the pepper honey, it was so good. The cheesey, cavatappi noodles were amazing. They've really dialed in the pasta here. Kids steak and fries 4/5. My son loved it, steak was a little too pink but still good.
