We live down the street from here so we gave it a try one night. If you pick it up be warned it smells great when you walk in! They put out a solid pizza, sauce is good kind of sweet which is what my husband prefers, toppings are housemade and they have plenty of options and the crust is good. This is how pizza is supposed to taste! Old school Italian family serving up what they do best. We got our usual pepperoni & banana pepp pizza w/ a side salad. Lots of flavor! A bit greasy but c'mon. Just grab some extra napkins; it's worth it. The salad was even delicious. As I said before, they are old school so don't expect them to kiss your butt. They'll warm up to you. The pizza was just pizza, I didn't think it was anything special and a little expensive. The dinner platters is where its at though. the Ravioli was good and the sauce was great. The only reason I took away a star here was because I had to make a special CASH trip as this place wont take credit cards which is super lame. read more

Great thin-crust non-greasy pizza! Apples and oranges when comparing to Hounddogs, but a really great alternative nonetheless.

Solid Cbus style pizza. Best in the 'ville. Always go with pep and sausage.

This is probably my favorite midwestern (thin crust/square cut) pie in town. The dough has a nice almost sourdough-like taste, and it crisps up perfectly. The sauce isn''t the most flavorful on its own but is complemented perfectly by a salty topping. Also, props to the cooks who tough it out in the summer-- it's ridiculously hot in there. I love Gattos. I've been going there for more years than I care to admit. I love the employees and the owners. They are always great to me and my friends. I'm a fan of the thin crust and the pepperoni. But my favorite pizza is pepperoni, bacon, tomatoes and onions. Ask them to make the bacon crispy. You won't be disappointed. Not good. Street parking, cash only, rude workers, bad pizza. It pains me to give a review this bad. Believe me. While I was waiting for my pizza in 1 of the 2 dirty chairs they had inside, the employees were spewing the filthiest imaginable language about a woman struggling to parallel park out front. I was seriously offended. Been going there since 1964, know the ownership. Its a family pizza place. You want fancy stuff, this ain't it. You want straight forward good pizza made authentic, with prices that probably haven't been increased since Nixon was president then yeah, this is it. I used to fly across the country for a Gatto's pie. Served my country for 27 years in the military and the guys still remember me. The sauce and ingredients are all authentic. Its a cash only business but so what?! As we used to say in the old neighborhood, Fuggetaboutit, ok? Big Joe, Vince, Steve, Eric been there a long time and will treat you good. I don't know what gatto's any of the other reviewers ate at. I just had pizza and a sub from there and it was horrible at best. EVERY ingredient the pizza and sub had tasted of extrememly low quality. The sub was the worst. I had the Italian sub. I've never seen veggies cut up in such a fashion. In one bite of my sub, i bit into about 1/8 of an onion with all the layers still intact. All the veggies on sub and pizza were cut terribly, and way too big and just looked plain sloppy. Only about 2/3 of the sub bun, which tasted like crap, had actually touched toppings, leaving a whole 1/3 of the bun wasted . there was next to no meat on the sub. i actually removed it and weighed it, a mere 3 ozs. My mom grew up on this place, and it is absolutely terrible now. read more

Gatto's is one of the best pizza's I've ever had the good fortune to wolf down. The crust has actual flavor, unlike the cardboard others use to put their toppings on, the cheese is the absolute greasy best and the sauce tastes like tomatoes, not a potpourri of spices. It tastes natural, not full of stuff you don't want. And the owner's are old school, no warm fuzzies here, they answer the phone "Pizza". Love it. And let's not forget Eric, former delivery driver, now mngmt. extraordinaire. A better guy can't be found. Except maybe Mark, another delivery driver with class. Great crust, yeasty and it stays crunchy. Ordered the classic pep and everything was well-balanced and didn't overpower other components - overall very good. (Food gets a 5 but gave a 3 for food prep cleanliness.) Made the mistake of sitting in-house and watched while they made our pizza and salad. Workers don't know what food handler gloves are for, apparently. Salad-guy went from answering the phone to measuring lettuce for the salad with bare hands! Deliver guy came in from his route, used the cash register, opened the 'fridge for a soda and then the pizza-maker used the same handle to open the 'fridge for his cold drink: witnessed no hand washing and no gloves in sight! A box from an upper shelf was set on the salad/ sandwich prep area. All salad, pizza and salad prep was done sans gloves. (We hoped for the best on the salad and figured the heat killed anything on the pizza.) Basically clean store but they sure need to take steps when using phone, register, money, etc and then handling food items. read more
