Wife and I went after waiting for the opening. We live within view and have been excited for the opening. First you sit where ever you want. Then you scan a bar code on the table and order your food. You also pay for your food prior to receiving it. That's okay I guess but it puts this place in the fast food Category. You are also expected to tip when you order. Usually a tip is based on service and food quality but I tipped anyway. Sure enough problems. We got our drinks but didn't get our food. We asked the server and she said she would check but never came back. Drinks were done and still no food. We flagged down someone cleaning a table and he got the manager. Manager went to check came back and said it didn't go thru and they have no order. We showed how our bank account showing the transaction and deduction. He said "food is on us" But that was not the case they charged us. Manager later credited our account for the confusion. Now for the food. Average at best. We ordered a steak sandwich and calamari and both we would not order again. We have not been back Lastly the homeless does nothing for the appetite. It really downgrades this place. What a wonderful addition to the LBC! I have now been here 3 times and I couldn't be more pleased with everything. 1st the atmosphere is priceless. Great music playing while you enjoy your beachside drink or bite to eat. I have had 6 different empanadas and they have all been delicious. Latte was wonderful. I also had one of their juice drinks which was incredible. Best of all their prices are great! I haven't found anything that offers all of this like Gaucho is doing. I'm so happy to have them in the neighborhood. They offer 3 different experiences here make sure to check out each one as they have different menus for each. read more

I really wanted to love it here, location, parking and view are incredible! It's 10 am on a Monday morning. Sat on restaurant side with more shade available. Not many people around. Music was great. We ordered a variety of different items from the cafe and empanada windows. No one else in line, no one at the window to take my order.... Several minutes later someone walks be, he will be right with me, hmmmm ok. Finally started my order, out of the 3 empanadas I was going to order grrrr ok ordered beef and spicy chicken. Went to next window to order breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Cold brew offered, not ready yet? Went with iced americano which was delicious but baffling that the cold brew was not ready. I understand it's a new location, but the customer service at the windows is severely lacking as is the pickup window. For a casual cafe it took over13 min for order to be ready, then only to realize not all my items were packed. The food was delicious and cost reasonable. Wish everything over all had been as good as the food. We had the opportunity to speak with a lovely young woman Bristy/restaurant side and she was amazing and helpful which gives us hope service on the restaurant side would be better. Might be willing to try happy hour after the kinks are all worked out. The sign on the patio reads "deck is available to everyone no purchase required". This was a huge surprise as a homeless encampment is right behind the restaurant. Couple of the homeless men walking around on the deck, one of the men from the encampment asking the cashier for soda in his big gulp cup. Hopefully that works out and does not hinder business. read more

On Labor Day the staff was working and went through an impressive amount of customers! Incredibly impressive have fast the food was ready. Plus the Kale Spinach croissant for $4 is an absolute deal. Looking forward to becoming a regular. The chef personally made sure we had silverware for our fruit toast. Twas great. read more

The location is nice especially at sunset however I've been here 3x since opening week( Friday evening, Sunday afternoon and Friday midday) and service/food is very bad (my opinion).Staff workers have been really nice but attention to service in minimal. Food was poor. For a quick beer or location, it's acceptable. I'll probably be back bc it's close to my home but just for a quick beer but stay away from food. The bartender seems to know how to pour a good mixed drink based on how he took his time with details but I haven't had one. It's a new restaurant and would have hoped they put out their best service from the start but unfortunately there's much room for improvement. Staff seemed very new and/or untrained which is not the staff fault. Owners need to invest more time and money on service. Positive is location and beer. I may try breakfast but I'm not sure yet. The cost of food and drink is too high for what is given. Hopefully they get better with time just like a good wine. read more

It's hit or miss with this place. The location and decor is great, but the slow rude service reviews on the café side is real, so don't second guess your interaction if doesn't feel right. This place is right behind where I've lived for a couple years and on the way to/from back from going for a morning run, so I'll naturally stop to get a cappuccino or something to enjoy on my way out to the beach. You can be the only person there and you'll be waiting like a ding-dong for a long while, then get an attitude if someone comes to the window. It's really strange. I've caught them over charging a couple times as well and they have to give me a refund in cash. Sad, bcs this is the only place to get a coffee once you're that far out near the beach. I typically only go here if I forget to get something from Qargo across the street, who I always have a good morning chat with and leave a nice tip. Hopefully some more mom-and-pop shops will open on the beach side who don't play games with people's coffee - which is a cardinal sin where I'm from, causing drama with hard working folks in the little bit of peaceful moments in the morning. Have some self-respect and pride in your work, people. Good empanadas though. read more

Pretty nice set up, you can seat yourself anywhere open restaurant side, snap the QR code and order right from your phone. The food comes to you and no waiting for a server to take your order. Been waiting many years for this place to open. No reservations can be made. First come-first serve. Very busy on a Friday nite. Hardly any places to sit. You basically have to stand around and wait until someone leaves their table to sit down. Finally a table opened up and we scanned the QR code on the table. It took at least 10 minutes to set up a way to pay. By that time, we could have had some waters and a drink in hand. Not really into their system of having to order online and pay online. What happened to the good old system of having a server help you order and checking back with you if you need anything along the way? I work with computers all day--who wants to order and pay for everything online when you want to have a nice 'expensive' meal out on the town? Finally, ordered everything and waited for our drinks, appetizers and main courses. All the food was really good, otherwise, I would have given 1 star. Server didn't seem to care about serving us at all. Given that this is a new place--it would have been nice to hear a friendly greeting and thanks for visiting us---nothing! We ordered the gaucamole which had a total of 15 chips. The gaucamole was in a pretty large bowl---it definitely needed more chips to eat all of what was in there. We also found a huge chunk of avocado that we had to mash up on our own. For $16, it was good, but a disappointment, given the lack of chips and the 'do it yourself' mashing-up of the avocado. When we asked for more chips so that we could partake of the last half of the bowl, we were informed that it would cost us an additional $2---are you kidding me? I've never been to any restaurant in my life that charges an additional amount for chips!!! And we were already paying a lot for our total bill---they couldn't have thrown that in for free? Needless to say, we got all of our food and drinks, but all out of order. We got two appetizers (guac and chips and calamari), lobster roll, 2 shrimp tacos and 2 margaritas and a bottle of merlot ($64). The total bill was around $235 for the 3 of us. We received 1 entree along with our appetizers. and before we could finish our appetizers, the other 2 entrees came out. In a 'real' restaurant, the server would have timed everything to come out correctly. At the very beginning, I thought about the tipping situation, but given that a server was just going to be bringing the food and nothing else, I opted for 15% tip. Thank God I did that, because the service was less than 15% in my books. What happened to tipping after the meal is finished to let the server know you appreciated their hard work? All in all, I would not recommend this place for a nice meal out on the town. Even though it has a great view and good food, it doesn't make sense to spend that kind of money for very little service and a lack of attention to detail. I might go back for a drink and an appetizer, but that's it. It seemed like that's what a lot of people were doing anyway, given their very expensive prices and lack of service. read more

I found the service to be very poor. I ordered a Gilled Chicken Sandwich, using the QR code. When finished to pay it default to the lowest request amount of 20% tip, before seeing a server. I ordered a Gilled Chicken Sandwich which I waited over 40-minutes and still did not received my order. The serve brought my drink, and when asked for water, it was self serve. Then when asked to speak with a manager, he to had an attitude to say "How Long Does It Take You To Grill Chicken, and We Are Not A Restaurant". I asked for a refund, and the manager tried to refund me my money minus the tip. I would never visit this place a again. read more

They messed up the order. The receipt was correct l, but the order she brought home did not match. Be careful ordering anything to go. Beautiful cafe with a nice view but the food is bellow average. Very disappointed. We had calamari, potato stuffed with prime rib and breaded steak sandwich. Waste of money. Also, they say there is a happy hour, but we didn't see happy hour menu and everything we ordered during happy hours, went as a regular price. However, the manager was very nice and quickly discounted the price when we told him about it. Service is good, ambiance is good too but the food is horrible. With my Sobrina at the new Gaucho Cafe near Shore line village. The City of Long Beach built this beautiful facility but when you come here you're surrounded by drug people, mentally ill and unhoused beach people!! Needless to say it ruins the ambiance and the enjoyment of bringing friends and relatives to enjoy the experience!! You have tents and trash scattered on the sand blocking the ordinary and beautiful view to the water. The public restrooms and children's playground is surrounded by tents and unhoused people entering and using the bathroom facilities for who knows what? We returned two days later and ordered fish and chips and she kept saying that she could smell something like poop in the air and we then noticed that a disheveled looking unhoused man was sitting at one of the tables nearby. Approximately 15 min later he got up and walked by us and sure enough he was definitely the source of the terrible odor!! Cafe Gaucho and the employees are both amazing and the food and drinks are 5 Stars!! Two of the employees were outstanding and friendly (Natcho and Sal) I just hope the City of Long Beach can do something about the now and potentially future dangerous situation here because this place deserves better and hopefully the above problems are addressed by the city!! The ambiance is lovely, great location, nice beach views, friendly staff... too bad the food is not good at all. We visited this restaurant twice the first time they undercooked my girlfriend's burger and took forever to bring out another one. The second time, we ordered fish and chips, and they overcooked our fish. They also served us a salad with no dressing. The fish nor the fries were seasoned. We actually walked down to another restaurant because we were still hungry. We will not be returning. read more

We have been waiting for this spot to open for what feels like an eternity! So happy that we now have a beach side cafe! My mother and I dined at the restaurant but we could not resist getting some empanadas. It was a busy weekend and Michael could not have been more kind and thoughtful. He helped us pick a 1/2 dozen box and even brought them to our table! The empanadas were delicious and the service was just as amazing! We will definitely be coming back!!! read more
