I had been to the space before but this was my first time coming since it's been changed to Hartland's. I do miss the table service, but I can see why they changed it to an order at the counter format. We waited quite a bit in line on a Saturday morning, so I'm glad to see they're popular! We had no trouble grabbing a seat by the window overlooking the great ocean view. Although the place was pretty full, people left as they finished their meals. All that being said, we did wait about 35 minutes to receive our food. They have a small grab and go market and quite a large beverage fridge, and at the counter is where you order food or coffee/tea drinks from the menu. They call the menu 'California Comfort'. We went for the Veggie Burrito and the Avocado Toast. Both were packed with fresh ingredients and left us full for most of the day. My Spiced Chai Latte was a bit forgettable, but perhaps next time I'll give the Strawberry Matcha a try. read more

Great views! If you are looking for breakfast or lunch with a view, ylthis is a great pick. You order at the counter and it is delivered to your table. It has a very casual vibe, feels like you are in a Cafe in a Gym. Several people were doing work on laptops, so definitely a place to relax or hang out. Staff does not rush you out after you finish you food and or drinks. It is located inside a high rise apartment building on the second floor. There is a sign but depending on your approach, it may not be visible. Look for the building with large 1900 on top! Patking is street only (onsite parking is for residents only). I got a steak burrito ; so flavorful and a nice size portion. I do wish there was more of the green salsa it came with. My boyfriend ordered the breakfast plate which I had to try some of. So good the breakfast potatoes were the star of the show. As a starter we order homemade biscuit and butter. Soooo good the biscuit was so butter and fluffy and light . As I attempt to dig myself out of the large hole I built myself over the last year in terms of yelp review drafts... this is also from last fall, a decent number of months ago. Amazingly, from what I can tell, the burger I had last fall that was $20 bucks with fries at that time, appears to still be the same price. So while that is a bit pricey (yes, you're definitely also paying for the sprawling beach views), go them for fighting back against the recent inflation, at least for now. Craft beers were entirely reasonably priced, too - the sour I grabbed was $6.50 (again, as of a few months ago, now). They had a pretty solid and varied selection of craft drinks, too - including, at least at the time, a cans of my favorite canned makgeolli, Makku (I wanted to give them a shoutout for that in particular, as that's fairly rare to find. Hopefully they still have it, cause that is a draw!) Anyway - apart from the beach view, which is indeed pretty spectacular, the burger was also quite good. Big, meaty, quality burger on a great fluffy bun, and, notably, somewhat rarely for this steak-house style of burger, actually didn't fall apart while I was eating it and make me eat half of it with a knife and fork! So good job on that, too. The fries were nothing special, though they weren't bad. They were... fries. The smaller pieces were definitely a bit overly crispy, and a bit overly salty; the larger pieces (a majority) were entirely adequate as a burger accompaniment. Certainly wouldn't go out of my way for them. Yes, it is indeed an order at the front, serve yourself kind of vibe. I had absolutely no issue with that. Indeed, in some ways, that's nicer. Overall, if they were charging the prices they charge, and did *not* have a view like that, I'd give them 4 stars and tell you to go to The Stache if you wanted a burger. Indeed, if what you want is the best burger, I would still tell you to go there. But if what you want is a chill vibe, a hidden gem even locals seem not to know about, a great beach view from a couple floors up, *and* a very good burger, definitely come here. Hubby & dined here when it was called the "plunge" a long time ago & I was sad it closed down bc I missed the lovely view & the great food. Glad to find out today that the restaurant had reopened but under a different name. We were in the area & thought we check it out. Place was pretty busy for late lunch but luckily we got a seat by the window & enjoyed the view just like old times. Hubby ordered their fried chicken breast that came with fries & cold slaw. The cold slaw was bland but the chicken was surprisingly very good! The texture was tender & juicy. The amount of crisp was perfect. Fries were good. It's not every day you get to review a restaurant that's in your own backyard, but in the case of Hartland's there is no closer or more convenient location than right in my apartment building. Tucked away on the second floor of 1900 Ocean, it's an open and airy space with plenty of seating. I especially love the casual beach house lounge style furnishing. Sadly they are only open for brunch/lunch and close daily at 3 PM (also closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays). Highly recommend anything off their cafe menu, with the hojicha latte being unique and a stand out. Also have gotten their OG breakfast burrito a few times and it's always hit the spot. Only taking a star off my review because the omelette left a lot to be desired - the egg was rubbery and was not mixed in with the fillings at all. All in all, am convinced this is the best brunch spot in Long Beach for vibes and views, with floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking the ocean. Every time I visit my son, this place becomes part of our daily ritual--from breakfast to lunch, we are here. We honestly don't go anywhere else unless we DoorDash. My son is working on his master's degree and is also a Division I athlete, so his schedule is nonstop and cooking or meal prepping is almost impossible. Having such an incredible restaurant right on the second floor of his apartment building is truly a blessing. The food is absolutely astonishing. The view is a million-dollar view, the waitstaff is beyond perfect--so charming, attentive, and welcoming--and the food... wow. I can never get enough of the steak and eggs, steak burrito prime rib sandwich, Avocado toast, Fresh Sourdough bread and the shrimp and grits are unreal. This is where we go every single time I visit, and I'm here for five days this trip--so yes, we'll be at Heartland every day. Food came out as it was ready and there were 5 of us for brunch so salad orders came out quickly and then burger and veggie burrito and last was the French toast which worked perfect since I was sharing my veggie burrito and the French toast was more like dessert. I live in the building that Hartland's is in, so I've had the luxury of coming here very often. Clover says 31 visits, but I know the real number is probably even higher. That alone shows how much I enjoy this place. Hartland's has become my go-to spot for breakfast, studying, and resetting my mind. Whenever they are open, I find myself heading downstairs to order either the steak and eggs or the steak burrito. Both are consistently great and always cooked well. I used to order the butterscotch latte with oat milk every single time because it was incredible. They no longer serve it, but the Spanish latte they introduced is also very good. The atmosphere is a huge part of what makes this place special. I usually sit in the corner with my laptop, eating good food, listening to relaxing music, and looking out at the ocean and beach in the background. It is one of the best environments for getting work done because it is peaceful, bright, and calming. You order at the front and seat yourself, which keeps everything simple and comfortable. The staff here is consistently kind, and they always make me feel welcome. Rob, the owner, is very friendly and easy to talk to. Every time I walk in, it feels like I am being welcomed home. My only wish is that they stayed open for dinner. If they did, I know I would be down here even more often because the space would make for a great evening spot as well. read more

You have to hunt for street parking but there were several spots in the neighborhood along 1st Street and it's a short walk over. We ordered our food and mimosas at the market counter and then picked our seats - we chose the booth but every seat has an excellent ocean view. The ambiance is modern, open and airy, and even has a homey lounge area with comfy couch/seats/pillows. Service was great and brought our meals to our table. The prices were also a good value for high quality food. We got the sausage biscuit sandwich, side of grits, veggie burrito, bar burger, and French toast. All of the dishes were amazing! The sausage biscuit was especially delicious - fresh made biscuit and homemade sausage that was savory with a subtle hint of sweet - probably the best that I've had and I would definitely go back just to get that again. The veggie burrito was also surprisingly good with tater tots inside for an added crunch and chimichurri dipping sauce - I would also definitely order that again. The burger with crispy onions and side of seasoned fries was great, and the French toast with thick cinnamon brioche and fresh berries balanced out our meal perfectly with some sweetness. My friend called ahead to confirm dogs were allowed and they were fine with us bringing her dog to the inside seating area since it was a chilly morning. The cashier had no energy and a poor attitude, their portions are very skimpy and small for their price, the food is rather bland and their toast is particularly stale. The matcha is very overpowered by the syrups. The matcha lattes taste more like the cheap grocery store brands you can get from Walmart. The potato portion in the breakfast plate is very small. They give you less than half of a potato, for $17 it should be a full potato. Potato's cost less than a $1, eggs cost $1 a carton.
