What a wonderful restaurant located in a hotel. We had the cheese and crackers for an appetizer. It was a great 'homemade' cheese spread. Sorry, i know everyone likes this place, but my experience was not good. I asked for a medium-well to well burger, it came back medium rare. I told waiter, but only so he could let cook know, I did not complain or ask for a free burger or even a replacement one. BUT the waiter did NOT even offer. that was weird! I am shocked they charged us for it. Also EVERYONES fries were way under-done. no excuse for that. and we were surprised the food was ready so fast, now we know why. It was okay. My chowder was all watery with some butter oil spots in it but had zero flavor. The yeast roll was tasty but can you really mess that up? We were supposed to wait 20 minutes and waited about 10. Second time in a row we've had to wait so we'll call ahead next time. The beer is awesome! Captain Kool is a good solid IPA and compares well with other IPA's around the state. The food is pretty solid too. The service is friendly and prompt. Given COVID times, my two stars are probably more of a gift but I do want to be fair to future YELPERS that this place is not a good use of your money or time. Service was almost borderline angry from a young man who seemed quite annoyed he had to take our order. Food came out all at once including appetizers and main dishes. Quality subpar and not much flavor in the various options we chose including burgers, quesadillas, wings and salad. The beers were good- cold and nice craft beer options. I give this place 2 stars because of how good my waiter was. He was extremely attentive, nice and quick. The bad part is allllll of the food. I got the large cheese and crackers for my table of 4. They brought 1 small tub of cheese with what appeared to be 200 crackers. We finished the cheese with more than half the crackers left. My husband got the Molly Malone sandwich. The shaved steak was inedible with absolutely no flavor at all. I got the pork quesadilla. It was soaked in grease. The pork was full of gristle. I had 3 bites before I felt sick. My guests got the chicken sandwiches which they said was decent. I love bread pudding. I asked the waiter about the pudding. He said, "uh, well... it's runny and I don't like it." I ignored his advice and ordered it anyway. It was revolting. It had a watery, soupy consistency. It tasted like it had raw egg mixed with cinnamon. I ordered some of their famous beer. It was good but slightly warm. Again, what a big disappointment. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

This makes me sad to review this place this way. For 20 years this has been my go to when it comes to going out. I would take kids here for special occasions, visitors from away here, and I would recommend this place to strangers. But tonight it happened. They screwed me. My 13 dollar cheeseburger was raw, so the did me a solid , refunded me 11.99 and only charged me 4.58 for the mushy French fries I didn't eat either. Let's be clear - a brewery should only have an associated "pub" or restaurant to highlight their beers alongside good food. Geaghan's Pub does not do that. Oh, their beers are fine. Too many IPA's, but all breweries make that mistake. They do have plenty other varieties to make up for it. So the primary complaint I have here is that their food sucks. The cheese nachos are supposed to be on "freshly fried" chips, but they're just from a bag with cheese and taco sauce thrown on top. I ordered a steak and cheese. I was expecting shaved steak, cheese, and veggies on a nice sub roll. What I got, I kid you not, was shaved steak in a limp grilled cheese sandwich. Even the fries were limp, just generic crap from the Sysco truck, as was the cole slaw. Even the venue sucks. It's not a "pub", it's a failed hotel restaurant with the flag of Ireland hung from the ceiling. Geaghan's, your beer is good, you're in every grocery store in the state. The existence of this pub does nothing but detract from your brand. To those considering going here, don't. Paddy Murphy's is right down the street with much better food and atmosphere, and they serve Geaghan's too. read more

We came to Geaghan's from a recommendation from a friend. I doubt we will be back. Our party pf 4 was seated right away which was a plus. The negative? We were seated in a booth in the bar area and from looking around at the crowd, many people were drinking and not eating dinner. Our family was there to eat dinner. We often had empty cups which left us thirsty for an entire meal. We waited 25 minutes from the conclusion of our meal to be able to ask for the check. It's safe to say the service ruined our experience at Geaghan's. The food was typical-tasting pub food. The wings were delicious alongside their homemade bleu cheese dressing; I am a sucker for good bleu cheese. The pub cheeseburger was very greasy and difficult to eat. We ordered the Grilled Shrimp after reading Yelp reviews, but they were nothing special. Just regular grilled shrimp, not much seasoning and unfortunately they did not taste fresh. The Buffalo Bleu Cheese Dip was the perfect combination of bleu cheese, hot sauce, and chicken. The dip was served with tortilla chips. If we were to go back, we would definitely order the dinner rolls. It turned out they were served warm with butter and were delicious. The three stars is for the few plates that were worth eating and the not so good service. If you want a place to hang out that is loud and has a lot of beer to offer, this is a good place for you. read more

Looks like a popular place located next to the Hollywood Casino -- hubby had the cowboy chili which he enjoyed with an in house Smiling Irish Bastard beer which he also enjoyed.. One of my favorite spots to go to when I go home! None of the food disappoints and they have quite a robust menu selection. Home style food and family owned as I like to support local. My favorite are the boneless wings with their homemade reserve sauce. I crave them and even took two pounds home with me after Christmas! I just found out they now sell the sauce bottled. My job takes me to Bangor pretty often for team meetings and community events that we usually book at Hollywood Slots next door in one of their conference rooms. We can usually eat the terrible buffet at the Slots or pop over to Geaghan's Pub to grab some pub food. I have been here during happy hour when it is packed to the gills with people from all over and is both noisy and buzzing also but I will give an overall view of this place. The decor is stale and bland for the most part with some signage of some irish culture and lots of older stuff to try to make it feel vintage and older with pretty uncomfortable booths with hard and flat benches. For the most part, every single time that I have been in here (about 4-5) I receive great service from very friendly people. This a true sign of passion and caring for the food and establishment in general. The only food item that I choose to get while I am here are their boneless buffalo wings. Now, I am usually a bone-in wing kinda guy but these lightly breaded morsels of goodness are literally some of the best boneless wings I have ever had and even rivals my bone-in wings in taste and depth. I have tried to go with something else there and, although it wasn't bad at all, I left unsatisfied and craving more of these little chicken pieces. They serve them in Mild, Wild or Ouch sauces and they are all packed with flavor no matter what temperature you are diving into. The other thing is that they are now brewing their own beer called Geaghan Bros. Brewing. I have heard good things but have not had any myself. So, in summary, if you are looking for some delicious boneless buffalo wings and some microbrew, then pop over to Geaghans, just expect the lot to be filled on Friday or Saturday night. read more

As far as brewery's go, this place is pretty awesome. The beers that I had so far are pretty stellar: Very smooth. The food that I had (The fried pickles and Reuben were pretty delicious). I'm taking one star away because I feel the menu is lacking a few key items and have some out of place items. It's an Irish bar, so I would have expected Bangor's and Mash and Shepherd's Pie. Instead, I saw quesadilla's and nachos. If they add those 2 items, I will increase the rating to 5 stars. read more

We came here because we had Geaghan's beer at a restaurant in Boothbay Harbor and loved it. Reservations are required due to COVID. The Pub is located inside the Fireside Inn. That usually makes me nervous but it seems quite a few restaurants in Bangor are in hotels. The owner greeted us in the parking lot (he was surprised too) and directed us to the area where we should park. There is indoor and outdoor seating and we chose indoor. It is a dark, haphazard setup with booths and random tables scattered around. Not terribly inviting. Our service was very enthusiastic and a bit over the top. She was either all over us or simply disappeared. The beer did not disappoint! We had the Fluid Thoughts New England IPA, Hop Harvest IPA, and a Brown. We ended up buying cans of each ... so good! The food was average. We ordered the pub fries as an appetizer for $7.59. Well, the side of fries that came with the meals was about the same size. So the price for the appetizer is totally out of range. The fries were thick cut and nothing special. The shepherd's pie was so-so. It didn't have much flavor, and the mashed potatoes were dry and placed on top with an ice cream scoop like an after thought. The Angry Irishman melt was pretty good as were the Smoked Wings. The best dish however, was the Chili. It was thick and spiced perfectly. Would return for the beer but the food and atmosphere need some work. read more

This is a great place to stop for din-din on the way back from Bar Harbor... It's pub-fare, but a step up from normal pub-fare... Just seems to be better quality overall. Also, they brew some pretty extraordinary-ily adequate beers here... I had the black IPA. Situated very close to 95, easy to get back on there. And finally, we had friendly service too. I have such conflicting feelings about Geaghan's. I really want to like it, because it has a great, convenient location (right by both the Cross Insurance Center and Hollywood Slots), and since it has a vast menu of Irish-inspired fare. My experiences here have been somewhat inconsistent though. Nothing has been bad enough to make me say "never again," but there have definitely been some disappointing elements of my last few visits. To start with the positive - I've been here around a half dozen times and their fried seafood dishes tend to be very reliable (not huge portions, but tasty). The chieftain chicken melt is also very good - if in doubt as to what to order, I highly recommend that. To move onto the less-than-positive... -The server we had on our last visit was very nice, but we've had some in the past that were blatantly rude, seemingly annoyed from the start that we were a large-ish party size. -On our last visit, I ordered the seafood chowder (one of their specials, which the waitress said was good), but I was informed about 20 minutes later that they were all out for the day. So, at that point, I asked for a menu to place a replacement order (I had picked the seafood chowder so quickly that I hadn't even looked at the rest of the menu!), but my re-order wasn't even *taken* until everyone had already received all of their food! -My replacement order (fish chowder instead of seafood chowder) was pretty lacking in fish - maybe 3-4 small pieces in the whole bowl. Meh. -Three members of our group received burgers that were basically raw. When asked to have these taken off the bill, the restaurant took the burger meals off, but *added* a charge for a side of fries (since the burger meals came with fries) to each person's bill! I thought this was astoundingly ridiculous - honestly, things like this (nickle-and-diming your customers when YOU made a mistake) make me less than enthusiastic to return. We didn't say anything at the time, since the waitress was clearly having a rough day and we didn't want to make things worse for her - but it was still somewhat maddening that this is how the restaurant approaches this type of situation. Overall, this place has some good items on its menu and the atmosphere / location are great, but they have some legitimate consistency issues to address (with regards to everything from food to service to overall restaurant management / policies). read more

This place served up a great atmosphere and food! We were in from Illinois and the haddock and cod tasted great on our meals! The beer was delicious and priced well for a brewed beer in house!
