IF YOU WANT YOUR CAR TO LAST MORE THAN A YEAR, DO NOT GO TO GEAR MASTERS!!! ALDO IS A TOTAL LIAR!!!! Feb 2010: I go to Gearmaster. My 2002 Honda Accord transmission was supposedly rebuilt $2200. I got a one year warranty. Results: car drove fine. March 2011: My tranny starts messing up again! I take it back to Gear Masters. My Torque Converter is bad. I talk to several mechanics and they say the torque converter should always be replaced when a tranny is rebuilt! They HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! Aldo told me the torque converter is not apart of a rebuild. LIE!!! At this time, he has my tranny in pieces and wants to charge me $500 to replace the torque converter. I told him what I thought he should do and he honored the warranty. March 2013: My torque converter is bad AGAIN!!! REALLY??? Shouldn't rebuilding a tranny give it new life? It's not like I drive Nascar with my sedan. I just take the kids to school and go to work. My car sits in s parking lot all day til I have to go home. Aldo took advantage of me. A big thank you to Gearmaster for you "expertise" in transmissions. They are so well trained that they didnt notice that my torque converter was the culperate and reason for my transmission to go out on my Envoy. So after 2,500 spent at Gearmaster, with a very limited warranty, of course the transmission has gone out again. This time it has blown out completey taking the entire casing with it. If they would have taken the time to inspect the transmission the first time, I would not be spending our rent money on such an easy catch for a transmission professional. read more

Aldo is super knowledgable and won't give you something you don't need. Had my 2015 wrangler re-geared and Eaton trutrac self locking differentials installed on both front and rear differentials. Don't take anything with gears in your car anywhere else. Transmissions, drive shafts, differentials, if it spins take it here. I'd recommend this to any 4x4 enthusiast as well. He can teach you and get you what you need at the same time if you're new to the game. read more

In 2007 I brought my wife's 1979 Datsun 280zx and spoke to the owner, Aldo Davalos regarding the repair work. He recommended a new clutch, rebuilt transmission, rebuilt differential, etc, costing about $1500. After the repairs and upgrades, that car ran flawlessly for years allowing my wife to drive back and forth to her job without any problems until she retired in 2014. After that, the car sat in the garage, where I periodically started it, driving it around the block to keep the battery charged, and the fluids circulated. I recently drove it down to Gearmasters to check the fluid levels and drain and refill the rear end and transmission. Both fluid levels were up and the car is still running great passing smog with flying colors. This place is fantastic !!!!!!!!!! I had a rear differential problem and he was able to diagnose the problem and repair/replace same day. Fantastic service !!!!!! dropped off our jeep at near closing and he was so polite about it. Even took us back to show us what the actual parts that he will work on looked like. Searched online and found Gearmaster best place I've ever found to work on transmission and differential. Felt as if Aldo treated me like family. I was amazed to see such understanding person. After all work was done to my car Aldo actually took the time to go test drive my car with me...how often do shops do that? From now on I know who to come to before anybody touches my car. I called Aldo at Gearmaster at the recommendation of mobile mechanic Richie Rich. Both have been great to work with! Aldo was incredibly responsive in answering his phone and consulting with me about my 2003 Subaru Outback that needed new head gaskets, a clutch, and breaks. He was flexible about letting me drop it off on the weekend so he could assess it on a Monday and ensuring that it was inside and secure over the weekend (a nice touch I appreciated). Aldo's price was extremely reasonable and made it easy to make the decision to invest in my car to get a few more years out if it rather than buy a new one. The work was done on time for exactly the amount he'd quoted me. When I had some concerns the day after getting my car back, Aldo had me come right down to the shop and test drove it with me to confirm that everything was fine. When a little noise arose the next day, once again, Aldo had me come right down and resolved it while I waited. Aldo is a nice guy, a clear communicator, and provided excellent customer service. Great experience at GearMaster for a complete rebuild of my Acura transmission. This is not a chain but an independently owned shop where the owner has built a great reputation over 32 years in this business. Aldo was friendly and very clear on what to expect in terms of time and cost. Thanks to the guys at Gearmaster for helping me with an frustrating electrical problem I was having with my door ajar indicator going off with my doors closed on my Ford Windstar. I took a 2004 Isuzu to here to get it checked out for a Check Engine Light and a "Reduced Power Light". Prior to taking it here, I could read the check engine light code out myself. The code was related to the direct injection fuel system, which I had no clue how those things worked on this special model. So I thought only the dealer would be able to service such thing. I did the usual, I called around different local shops to get quotes, and to see if they had experience with Isuzus. When talking to two other shops, they seemed to be arrogant, not trust-worthy, and told me it was a car make/model that "they didn't do", and even wanted to charge me to read the code out of the car computer. I chose to take the car to Aldo, since right off the bat, he was very friendly, professional, and offered to look at more information on the code. And taking a peek into the shop, the shop looked very clean and neat, too. Compared to other mechanics, his customer service style is very unique, putting emphasis on trust, and rapport, and on the quality of the work. It turned out that the fault code couldn't come back on while it was at the shop. Aldo did his very best, and I recognized he went out of his way to reproduce the fault. Other mechanics could have easily charged me to disassemble the car into pieces, and fix/replace expensive parts that are already working, which could be another risk of it's own. I definitely didn't feel like I was being "sold off" at this shop. I would really recommend this shop to anyone! read more

Let me start off by saying that Aldo and his crew are amazing. I have a 2004 Range Rover HSE that for some reason needed a new tranny. They were amazing, PERFECT from the get go. I called Gearmasters and they took care of me from the start. They towed my car from my place ( which took under an hour from when I called Gearmasters to when they were at my house towing my car). Up front they were honest and very sincere. They treated me like I was family. They made it a point to put me the customer first and it felt that it was never about them. Long story short Aldo and his crew repaired what was needed and for that I am grateful. I got different quotes from different place Range Rover wanted nine thousand. I paid less than half. Since my initial visit went so well--I made the prudent decision to take my moms truck there. Unfortunately we bought her her truck used and it had a couple of issues. Aldo and his team have been thus far the most real and down to earth team in the auto repair industry that I've encountered! I've been taking my Jeep to the dealership on Stevens Creek Blvd. for my car repairs/ maintenance for the last few years now. The dealership told me that I needed to replace my rear differential and had really no explanation as to why it got too the point of replacing??? Not to mention they had my Jeep for two months and didn't offer a rental car credit..... I then had to take it back recently and the dealership couldn't find anything wrong with it for over two weeks! Then told me that they "found" something and charged me just over $1,000 and it still wasn't driving the right... You would think that you are taking your car to certified specialist but in the end they knew nothing and I was ripped off. To make matters worse, I attempted to make a follow up appointment with them bc the issue wasn't fixed and wasn't able to be seen until a month out? Like what? Anyways this whole debacle lead me to find Aldo and his team! Maybe it was a blessing in disguise! Aldo and team immediately found what was wrong and within less then 24 hours fixed it and walked me through what was wrong, where they fixed it and what future maintenance recommendations they suggested. Had a bad experience dealing with these guys. Gave them my vehicle and was told they would diagnose issue on my transmission. Their diagnosis was they didn't know without taking the transmission out and would be 695 to do that but couldn't tell if it was going to be more. So 695 to drop my transmission and look at it. The guy goes on to explain how the 695 will be credited to repairs. So 695 to test their theory and leave an open tab for them to bill more. I can see paying a reasonable diagnostic fee and then having removed from bill if I repair with them but to spend x amount of money to diagnose it and then be another amount could be 1500 or more all for a transmission I can get for under 1k. read more

I had noise during drive on a Chrysler Town and Country 2010 minivan with 85K miles that was coming from transmission area. My trusted mechanic of many years said it would take him a few hours to diagnose it and then he was not sure if he could fix it. I know enough about transmissions to know that they should not be serviced in a shop that is not super-clean. So I went to Aldo based on his many good reviews. He not only diagnosed the problem correctly within 2 minutes of driving the car, he saved thousands of dollars by not fixing or even opening the transmission. Brought it in a few days ago not knowing what was wrong with it. They replaced my clutch and some gaskets, even though it's not their specialty. I'm only writing this because the owner asked me to several times during out meeting, so here goes. Don't Go Here! First off, it took them a week to look at my car in the first place, which wasn't a big deal, but they lied to me a few times which I thought was just lame. Like one day they tell me "We ran out of time, your car is already on a lift for tomorrow" and then at the end of the next day he calls and says "We couldn't find a lift for your car, so we'll look at it tomorrow" making the first call a lie, right? This went on. So, when I go to pick up my car, he pretty much demands we go on a test drive in it with him driving. I thought that was sort of dumb. He ends up driving absolutely wrecklessly, flooring it down small, slow speed limit residential areas, and comes EXTREMELY close to smashing into a truck about 3 times the size of my car. I implied that he stop, and he shook it off and kept driving like a disrespectful asshole. Again, this is the OWNER I was dealing with the entire time, not just an employee. It was ridiculous, and a huge indication of the disrespect I'm assuming they showed my car when I wasn't there. Which is also apparent by the 2 inch by 1 inch gash in my paint job I know was not there before. Oh, and my car is still having problems, they didn't do what they said they'd do, and they weren't very thorough with my transmission. To add insult to injury, I dropped my car off with a bit more than half a tank of gas and they returned it to me with hardly enough to putter into a gas station. Seriously, I NEVER take the time out of my day to write things like this because I normally don't care enough, but my experience was horrible enough to want to share with you all. Right away I was impressed with the orderliness and cleanliness of the shop. Aldo road tested the car and determined that the transmission would have to be rebuilt to fix the problems, and gave me an estimate that seemed pretty reasonable, so I decided to have them do the rebuild. Complications arose, and the job took longer than estimated, but Aldo made sure the job was done right and at the right price. I'm not one to put out reviews but because of my last experience with Gearmaster I felt they deserved the praise. Gearmaster is a clean and professional shop with fair pricing that I highly recommend. When I lived in San Jose they were my go to shop for my car repair needs. I moved to the Livermore area a few years ago and thought I'd try some local auto repair places because of the convenience and my experience did not go well. Now I take my vehicles back to Gearmaster. I recently took my Chevy Tahoe to replace a bad wheel hub, my friend followed me there as I figured I'd have to leave it as they are always so busy. He knew I made the drive from Livermore and made the extra effort to get my car done in a couple of hours. My rear differential failed in my Volvo S80. I called at least 10 different shops in the Bay Area and nobody would work on it. Every shop said the same thing "we can't fix it, you need a new or used differential". The highest quote i got was over $6,000. I called Aldo and he was willing to take on the task of rebuilding my rear diff. He was able to complete it in less than 3 days. For a fraction of the price and that is including new rear brakes which we in bad shape.
