This is a decent spot to fill your sushi cravings. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do like that it is casual dining so it's not like you have to dress to the nines like at a bougie omakase place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They kind of have it all, from rolls, nigiri, and assortment of small plates. We got the Oyako special that gave us a platter of sashimi and rolls. Fish quality was good overall. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I don't think they have A/C inside, so it was too warm for comfort.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Geido is one of my husband and I's favorite Japanese restaurants in the area. The food is always made with love and tastes super fresh. The soup is also piping hot, which is perfect for a cool autumn day. The only slight disappointment was that the rice in our curry was a tad too dry. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with any of the appetizers, soups or sushi options here!

LOVED Geido, in fact, i was quite obsessed. My favorite restaurant in the whole world was a place in East hanover NJ called tomo cuisine closed a few years ago and something about getting takeout here for me and my mom made me feel a similar vibe..... the fish was all noticeably very fresh and we got a LOT of food for two but i thought it was reasonably priced for Gud qual sushi in new york. I cant wait to go in person and have some with a crispy asahi draft.

A BK fave! Out and about with the family and wanted some consistent good Japanese food and it did not disappoint. Great (fast) service with great quality food.

Our fave sushi place in our neighborhood! We went for dinner and it was delicious. We ordered the sashimi platter, Brooklyn special roll, the stuffed shishito tempura. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is always fun and bright![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff are always very good. It's been open for decades and the owner, Osamu Koyama, continues to make sushi there! Amazing! His son, Kaz, is running the place.

Classic Japanese spot. We have been going here for over a decade. This is where my daughter became a sushi lover before she could even say the alphabet. Now that we live in bay ridge, accessing Geido is a bit of a pain since they don't deliver this far. We still make the trek a few times a year for a sit-down dinner though.

This place doesn't just look like an old school sushi joint-- it's been in business since 1985. I wonder what the neighborhood was like at the time, but to this day you can find most seats filled with folks enjoying their fresh fish at killer prices. Expect a no frills, hospitable place with an overwhelmingly lengthy menu and a wall covered in graffiti & scribbles. We waltzed in about half an hour before they were set to close for the night and they gladly ushered us in. If you're familiar with your typical sushi menu then you'll recognize the menu here. They have specials written on an expo board on the wall, and you can ask your server for recommendations, but I'd recommend any of their assorted sashimi and roll specials. The fish is fresh, food is made to order pretty speedily, and the prices are very reasonable. Nothing I had was mind blowing and I found the smell of fish in the place a tad overwhelming (even as a pescatarian who subsists on a heavy seafood diet) so I could more easily see this as a spot I'd order takeout or delivery from. As more and more upscale restaurants open in the neighborhood, Geido is a vestige of an old Prospect Heights that is quickly getting swallowed up by new developments and tasting menus.

Came to Brooklyn to meet up with an old work friend and he recommended this place, said he's been coming here several times a week for 30 YEARS!!!--so of course I was looking forward to it. We came as soon as the place opened for dinner and the restaurant quickly filled up but it wasn't too loud or obnoxious. As for the food...Welp. I can never eat at another sushi restaurant ever again, this was SO delicious, the most delicious sushi and omakase experience I've ever had. Our server was very polite and we got to watch the master sushi chef work diligently and NON STOP from the moment we sat down. Every piece and bite was a flavor bomb that just melts in your mouth, like celestial butter. We left happy, having caught up with an old friend and having a new favorite sushi spot. Yum.

Where do I even begin... I've been coming to this restaurant for the past 15 years of my life (I'm 18) and the memories I have here amazing. The reason I've taken so long to write this review is cause I don't want the line to get any longer but in all honesty they deserve all of the customers they can get. The food is consistently fresh and delicious with Osamu bringing in technique and precision to all his dishes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service is impeccable and the graffiti wall adds to the awesome ambiance of this Brooklyn gem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've never had a bad meal there and can't wait to go back.

This place has a lot of nostalgia for me, as it was my neighborhood sushi spot when I moved to Prospect Heights almost a decade ago. Over the years, Geido has never failed me. This place is always busy/packed and for good reason. It may not have the very best sushi in the city, but you seriously get the very best bang-for-your-buck. It's such a great neighborhood vibe here - love the graffiti, which gives it very much an urban/casual feel. The staff and chefs are friendly and work quick. I recently came back with some friends, and it brought back all the great memories here. Everything I have loved about this place is intact. My go to neighborhood sushi spot when I want very affordable sushi, but still want an energetic and cool vibe.

Everything was delicious. Went here for a date night and sat at the bar. Very cute for casual sushi spot but very fresh/good quality. If you are hungry.. get the Brooklyn special roll. It's delicious !

One of my top 5 restaurants! This place is a true gem! I'm Japanese and me and my mother have been coming here forever. It is some of the best sushi you can get in nyc, hands down. The owner and his son are some of the nicest and most genuine people ever, they literally remember everyone! There's always a little bit of a wait because the space isn't huge but it's so worth it. The vibes are great in here, super lively and the art is very fun. The fish quality is insane, it's crazy how buttery and precise everything is you can really see and feel the care being put in. If you're in the area you have to come here! And if you're not in the area, make the trek to come here!

Moved into the neighborhood few months ago and we're looking for a regular sushi spot. Geido's window display looked cool/ like it was a good restaurant so we went for the first time 2 weeks ago and I went again last week because I liked it so much. Its been opened since 1985 !!! The restaurant is a homey joint with graffiti on the walls, people go here for their weekday dinners and patrons have been coming for years ( our landlord for the last 15 years)! The sake prices are reasonable. The rolls are fire . I eat a lot of sushi and have been scarred by a lot of cheap sushi places. Geidos rolls are reasonably priced, service is quick and attentive and food is fresh and delicious. Our favorite rolls are the amazonas ( so many crunchies you will be super full) and the spicy scallop. Standard rolls that are pretty fire are - eel and avo, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. Try their California roll which has tobiko in it which was BOMB !!!!

Above all, the fish quality and freshness is excellent and the nigiri felt especially authentic (not too much rice, sizable cuts of fish done in the traditional style). The akami and hamachi belly were particularly great. The toro scallion and king salmon crunch hand rolls were also favorites. Our opinions were more split on the spicy tuna crispy rice (I loved, husband was more lukewarm) and dumplings (obviously very freshly prepared but quite fried). The overall ambience is airy, quiet and calm and service was warm and fast. We would have loved to try the cocktails as they sound really interesting -- next time!

The signature roll set had an assortment of interesting and unique rolls ranging from truffle to mango- my fave was the New York crunch w potato crisps on top. The tuna crispy rice was also a bit different- served as a tartare w crispy rice chips for dipping. Very crispy and tasty though! Service was super attentive and very welcoming. Definitely will be coming back if I'm in the area.

Regardless, it's the best salmon roll I've ever had -- buttery with a delicate, fresh flavor wrapped in fragrant rice in perfect proportions. After experiencing the first salmon roll that I could stomach and finally understanding the hype a while ago, I've tried dozens of rolls throughout the city at many price points and this was my favorite experience. It's also relatively very affordable; my meal of a miso cod appetizer (flaky scrumptious simplicity), miso soup, a salmon roll, and green tea cheesecake came to $54 + tip. The service was also excellent. I'm the sort to dine solo with a novel, want to be completely left alone, and not notice the quality of service at all. The waitress provided the feel of an independent experience while also being very attentive, pleasant, and informative. There was an art to her skill that prompted me to observe and note an art to the service I rarely do. The staff was very watchful and reaction; everyone was well cared for. I'm inspired to try something over than a salmon roll. This seems to be the place to do it. I'll also add I was surprised to read the review on them refusing to let a guest take their leftovers home. I had just a few bites of my dessert remaining, and they asked me if I'd like it boxed unprompted.

To start off, we had the Cheeseburger Dumplings ($12), which was so unique. We've never had something like this and they executed it really well. The dumplings were filled with meat and fried with a skirt. The cheese part was topped over it like a melty dressing, so a delicious and special dish here. Plus, it had a side salad to balance all the grease here. For the entrees, we had to get the udon and shared the Niku Udon ($25) and Salmon Ikura Udon ($30). It was a nice combo between a hot and cold udon. The Niku was your classic udon bowl filled with plenty of beef and a perfectly soft-boiled egg. The broth was sweet and savory for a warm and comforting meal. On the other hand, the salmon udon was quite unique with matcha udon and fresh salmon. There is a dashi to pour and mix into the noodles, which still gave it flavor and the slurp you want in a udon. Both were so great in its own way. Even their ramen also looked great, but I love all noodles. Definitely a great spot to dine near Barclays Center. Love to come back whenever I'm in the area again.
