I had a 2 piece suit and 4 shirts tailored by Ara. He did a great job slimming down my off the rack pieces and all in a very timely manner. He measured me in less than 15 minutes when I went to drop off the pieces and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the craftsmanship when I came in to pick them up a week later. The shop has a very old school, mom and pop type feel but the work is great and prices very reasonable. Definitely coming back for other tailoring needs. read more

Came here based on the reviews, and because I was in a time crunch. My tailor was sick and was out of work for a week, and I need a rush on my suit for my cousins wedding. I brought my suit in on a Wednesday evening, and was reassured that it would be done by Friday night, so I can have it for Saturday. I was a bit skeptical cause normally a tailor needs a good week or so for a job. Ara, the owner, reassured me tho, and told me that he would have it tailored and pressed for me by closing time, at 7, on Friday night. I put my suit on for him to pin and see what I wanted done. I told him how I like my suits to be more tapered, slim, modern fit. He knew immediately what to do without me even having to mention where I wanted my suit taken in. It was amazing. He shorted my sleeves on my suit to show a good inch on my French cuffs. He took in the backside to give it a more aesthetic and clean shape. He also tapered the pant legs on the bottom to give it a more natural slim fit, to sit comfortably on top of my dress shoes. Got to talking to him while he was setting the pins, and he mentioned he's been in business for 40 years, and his work shows why. He's a very genuine soul and knows his craft, inside and out. He was a pleasure to deal with and talk to. When I came back on Friday night, he had my suit ready for me to try on so I can approve before taking it. Everything fit like a gem. I was relieved and happy to know that this man was able to get something done so quickly and professionally, in a matter of two days! The stitching and cuts matched my suits natural work. You can say that I'll be definitely coming back, and that this will not be my last visit, as I wear suits on the daily. I've read some of the negative comments on here, and after trying this spot out for myself, I've come to the conclusion that they must be your basic bitter people who complain about everything in life, cause everything came out perfect. For those who complained about price as well, I'll tell you this much, you must want to live a rockstar lifestyle on a McDonalds budget, cause Ara's prices are very reasonable for the type of work this man does. This man charged me $25 (cash mind you) to do a job that other places charge $7. He claimed he could fix my jeans but all he did was sow them from the leg and left the waist, hip, and everything other than the leg untouched. The pants are ruined and now i have to buy new ones. Ara is the man! I had some bad experiences at other tailors and ended up with a suit that looked like it belonged to a carnie in a flood zone. After reading positive reviews, I figured I'd give Gem a try. I took my suit in and showed Ara what we were working with. He immediately said he could salvage it and make it look top notch. I tried it on, let him make his marks, a few pins here and there...that was it. Altogether, it took about 10 days, but I ended up with a suit that looked like it should have to begin with. I needed my dress pants hemmed for a business school program, so that was all that I went for but I am planning to come back with more things after my initial experience with Ara. Ara was friendly from the moment I walked in, and it took me 5 minutes to get dressed into the pair of pants in the dressing room. Even though I moved away from Norwalk years ago I refuse to go to another cleaners even though it may be more convenient. I needed to have my black suit jacket tucked in (lost quite a bit of weight) and pants shortened (seems lost some height, too ...) for my daughter's wedding. Ara gave me some recommendations in addition to tuck and shortening of pants. He shaped the jacket nicely and tapered the pants to give it a more modern look.
