The owner was very rude the last time I went and told me that it would take to much time to alter my shirt because my shirt was very well made... whatever that means. He said I should go to a seamstress instead. Mind you, I was willing to wait and pay whatever price, for my top to be fixed. But he pretty much made it clear it would be time consuming. Great tailor! I've never had anything tailored before for fear of hassle or bad quality. I was recommended here by a friend so I checked out the reviews. They were all good, so I decided why not. I called the shop and said I needed to have a suit done by tomorrow. Ara said he could do it and to bring in the suit and also to wear the shoes I'd be wearing with it. Came in after work around 6 on a Friday, Ara quickly measured me up and told me to come back the next day. Next day comes, and the suit fits perfectly! Ara is a great tailor and willing to get the job done right and on time. After taking my suit to another tailor, whom by the way did a bad job, I brought it over Ara. I called him and explained my situation as I needed it by a certain date and he said he would do his best. When I tried the put the suit on, Ara quickly noticed the suit had not been tailored properly. He have me suggestions as to what needed to be done and I agreed and left the suit for him to fix. When I picked up the suit it fit and looked like it was custom made for me . So when I say that Gem European Tailoring is one of the best tailoring shops I have ever experienced, it is truly one of the best. I have been here twice, maybe 4 months apart. I just want to have my pants and jeans shorten. The 2nd time, his price went up and I asked him why it went up rather quickly, he said 'no no $6 was 10 years ago'. Did he just mean I was a liar? or was he joking? Anyway, work quality is good and on time. Actually, the first time I came, he told me my pants would be ready by 5pm, but when I showed up at 4:55, he was barely working on them, he finished everything in like 6 minutes. I came here because it was close to my house and cause of the reviews on yelp. The reviews on yelp were right on point! I brought my bridesmaid dress here because it was too big. I got it online thinking it was my size but i was wrong. Anyway it was an emergency to fix my dress as soon as possible since it was two days before the wedding. i needed the dress to be altered to my size and to hem the length. I tried it on, then Mr. Ara saw what needed to be fixed and told me a price. The price was very reasonable and cheap for great and quick work!! It costs me $40 but since i needed it right away he charged me extra $20 to have it ready in two days. I brought it in on wednesday afternoon and he fixed it by friday morning. When i came to pick it up i tried it on and it was perfect, just how i wanted it! i highly recommend this place to anyone!!! read more

This place is a little hidden gem. I get all my dry cleaning and tailoring done here. My mother in law introduce me to this place a few years ago. My husband always gets his shirt taken in here, he has a large neck, but smaller body so off the rack shirts generally does not fit him. Don't be fooled by the shop's location and dated interior, Ara continuously provides the best tailoring service I have ever experienced. Since Ara started tailoring my suits in 2006, I regularly get compliments on how well they fit and obvious astonishment that I did not pay more for my suits. When freinds get their off-the-rack suits tailored at Ara's, they too share similar stories of compliments. Ara has successfully tailored many of my suits that started with Macy's Alfani Collection and Calvin Kleins and now include Hugo Bosses, Hickey Freemans and Armani's. Since I know Ara provides a consistent quality product, I regularly drive to Norwalk from Westwood to get my clothes altered. One word of caution, when tailoring suits I suggest you not rush Ara.
