We had so many people come to our table tonight. I think they said they were short handed. They were all patient and in good mood's anyway. Food was good as always, great company makes food taste even better. I just wanted to mention that we did have a mechanical issue of sorts that we discovered when we were done eating. We weren't looking for compensation, we mainly just wanted to let them know. They were nice about it. Shout out to the new GM, sorry I can't recall his name but he handled us well.

    Everything.

Every time I go to Gen...I question why I don't go to Gen more often. I, like many other people, do not like going to Gen because I just don't feel like the wait is worth it; but people gotta be waiting outside of Gen for an hour for a reason right? It's not like it's new so the food gotta be worth it? Food aside, Gen is one of the nicer, cleaner-looking K-BBQ places, and have wider aisles comap

First time here to be honest the Ala Moana location is way better . The service here was not up to par . My family and I arrived @ 5:45p or so and they wasn't busy at all and there was not hostess to assist us . We waited around 10min until we got seated . The food wasn't as tasty as Gen Ala Moana I'm not sure why . The only bright spot was our server he was very nice and he apologized of the situation.

Wife and I took brother-in-law and his wife to dinner. There only a couple of dishes the made it above average in taste.. Service was friendly. Long wait time to be seated. Longer wait time to receive the food we ordered. Had better tasting food at the Ala Moana location. Enjoy

After a Friday Night that wasn't going so well, we decided to drop in @gens. Although I've eaten here a number of times, I'd really like to say our server Jay Tamashiro provided us with such a GREAT dining experience! Such AWESOME customer service, he definitely turned our night around. Food was Outstanding as well. Thank you so much, look forward to our return.

We had family members that was visiting and they had never been to Gen BBQ. So we decided to bring them there. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely host bame Miya. She was very pleasant and kept checking in the back of the house to see if there was a table ready for us. Our server was Jaymie. Again super friendly. She was very attentive to all our needs....bringing us napkins, water with being asked....and she brought us all kinds condiments, and requests that our son in law asked for. The service was quick this time I visited and I was really impressed. I stop Miya when she passed our table and I requested she take a picture of our paery. She did it with a smile, and told em if the pictures didn't co.e out good, she would gladly take our pictures again. Everyone had a great time, and the food was delicious. Even our grandson at 2 years old was happy.

Sunday May 24, 2026 After watching Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu movie upstairs. We decided to eat early dinner at 3:30pm. We were seated in 5-10 minutes. Service is fast and friendly. We ordered 2 premium AYCE dinners of $55.95 per person. It's a good deal. The appetizers came out shortly after. Then the 5 trays of meats right after. We started cooking right away. Everything was good. Then we ordered a 2nd round of 5 trays again for the 2 piggies. Lol. Ambiance is casual and comfortable in here. Leave here smelling of Korean bbq. Lol. We will be back again.

Wet menu! Stuck to other menus!

Service is nonexistent! Do NOT EAT HERE!! Came in and told to log i to yelp to be put on wait list.. Online says less than 5 min wait.. hostess says 10-15 min.. says check in with hostess when we arrive.. hostess said dont need to.. Restaurant nearly EMPTY!! Group of workers including hostess sitting/standing at first table playing on CELL phones and joking around.. No one is being seated, multiple families waiting. We are first in line and have waited at least 15 min.. Go to Ala Moana! Dont waist ur time coming here since they dont care about customers AT ALL!! Finally seated.. table chair and MENU..WERE WET! Sold out of two of the 3 meat items ordered.. sold out! WTF! This place is the WORST!! Pearl City GEN Sucks!

Started off as a normal visit... nothing special or memorable but the waitress we had was awesome. I believe her name was jayde, not completely sure but that's what the kids said and that's also the name on our receipt. Our grill caught fire and she did panic but she handled it very well. Felt small kine bad because she seemed soo down after. What's crazy is we were just finishing up cooking the last slab of pork belly before it caught fire. We ordered a lot of pork belly so pretty sure that's what caused it, all that grease.

Worst experience ever Did takeout.. Couldnt do it online because it wouldnt let me select 4 of the same meats so had to do it in person. Manager (im assuming based on attire) was super helpful. Was told 20-25 min. 40 min later 2 servers finally hand carry my takeout containers from the kitchen up to the host stand. The haole girl proceeds to drop a container on the ground, right in front of me, and pick it back up like nothing and place it on the counter. Thankfully it didnt open or idk what she wouldve done then.... On top of all that she had the meanest RBF. def not someone who should be working anything related to hospitality. Fast forward Get home. Carrying the bag to my house, whole thing rips open from the bottom. Because why? The container she dropped is completely cracked so all the vinegar and water from the radish wraps is all over everything including the bottom of the paper bag. Luckily all containers survived and i didnt lose any food. Salad also had no dressing. And we got no sauces for our meat. Its cheaper to dine in than pay $80 for a terrible experience. All things you get for free during dine in, you have to pay ala carte for. Salad. Radish wraps. Rice paper. All the banchan. Tried calling them to talk to someone to get my tip back, because that def did not deserve any tip since it was def not prompt nor was there any service or hospitality from anyone other than the manager. But they never answer their phones. Will never be doing takeout again

My sister and her family love this restaurant. There was a newer location that opened near them but they still prefer to drive further to this location. This time, we had a party of seven (4 adults + 2 kids + 1 baby). We got there at around 5 on a Saturday and waited maybe about 10 minutes. Our waitress seemed nice but she must have been new because she was kind of terrible. She didn't even know how to start our grill (turns out you need to add water first so that you don't start a grease fire, which she wasn't aware of. Kind of concerning). She would forget a lot of items, we'd have to ask for items multiple times (including basics like water or utensils), and she would constantly bring out incorrect items). Our grate was also never changed (again, probably due to lack of training) until we asked, since some of our meats were starting to taste burnt. Avoid the cooked menu items. The kimchi fried rice and japchae were terrible. Stick to the meats. My top three dishes were still the Hawaiian steak, honey soy beef belly, and pork cheek. So it's nice to see that at least the quality of the meats have remained the same. It just seems like they might have a really high turnover rate and waiters don't receive adequate training, probably due to that fact. Although I enjoyed most of the food, I think this second experience of bad service is enough to not make me want to come back a third time.

We arrived on a Sunday at 6:30pm as a group of 9 and were seated right away. That was a bonus. Half of our group had never been to a Korean BBQ before so we asked for some guidance and our server was happy to recommend some popular meat options. Everyone enjoyed getting to cook their own meats after first being a bit uncertain of doing so. The table favorites were the bulgogi, the Hawaiian steak and the brisket. We tried the spicy calamari and everyone that tried it liked it. I don't think there was anything we didn't like. The pork belly was sliced thicker than I'm used to so it wasn't a favorite. Otherwise most choices were good. She came to ask about dessert but we were all too stuffed for that. Service at times lagged a bit but overall not bad. The thing to be aware of is taking kids here and maybe even some adults. Unless you're ready to eat the price will be higher than you want to pay for a few bites.

Ask the Community - Gen Korean BBQ House

    What's the price per person?

Prices are: - Lunch is $20.95 from 10am to 3pm on Monday to Thursday (Note: "Dinner" price of $33.95 is all day for Friday to Sunday & Holidays)…

How much is it for dinner?

I never had to pay so I wouldn't know. There are no prices on the menu.

Is there a gen restaurant in kamakana?

Yes there is! It's on the right side of Kamaz, where the big "Ka Makana Ali'i" sign is.

    Do they take Reservations?

Only if you have a party more than 10 & you can also put in your first set of orders so when you get to your table your orders are there.

How much is it person I'm trying to surprise my Htg for Valentine's but can't find any prices?

If you go for lunch Monday-Thursday it's 19.95 per person and dinner is 29.95 per person. Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the dinner price, 29.95 per person, all day. I…

What's the difference between lunch and dinner dishes? Would have to compare side by side both menus and my eyes are not as good as before :-)

https://m.zmenu.com/gen-korean-bbq-house-aiea-online-menu has the lunch and dinner menu!😊

Does anybody ever answer their phones? I've been trying to book a large party all week and no answers? I've been on call for 35 minutes.

If all week they haven’t answered, I would just go in and make the reservation in person..

Does anyone know what the usual wait time is for walk in party of 5?

    10-15 minutes

What are your prices? Web site says to call but nobody answering.

$16.99 lunch/ $24.99 dinner. It's on the menu, but it's the price of each item instead of saying per person.

Do you guys offer military discount?ty

It's actually $19.95 for lunch and $28.95 for dinner. Of course that isn't including the tax yet! 😊

I'm trying to call to make a reservation for 10 people. Is it just me or do they not answer their phone?

It's not you. It's extremely hard to have someone pick up the phone. We ended up personally going down to make the reservation and deposit.

For large parties of 12 or more do you need to place a reservation ahead of time?

Need? No, but I highly recommend placing a reservation. However, in my experience and regardless of reservation, they tend to break up the large parties into two tables.

Are we able to make reservations?

Yes for party of 10 or more

What's the dinner price? & do we need to make a reservation for 6 people? last answer I found was from 9 months ago.

    About $30 per person

Does the Pearlridge location still have BYOB (bring your own beer)?

No, they have a liquor license so it's not BYOB

Do you guys still require vaccine card??? Please let us know here too thank you!

I believe today 3/6/22 is the end of the safe access program. So proof of vaccination or negative test result will no longer be required at eateries, bars, gyms and other establishments.

No one is picking up the phone. Are parties under 10 still walk in only?

    yes

Is there a time limit on eating and is there any extra charge for leftover food not eaten at the end of our meal?

Once you get in you have a 2 hour limit and if there is extra left there is a fee , $5 if i remember correctly

Do they allow single diners? I mean one person, not not married! 😄

I'm sure they do like any restaurant will provide seating and service for one. A small table with the grill and you order from the vast menu. Since it's all you can eat you might start off with one tray of meat. Assorted vegetables. Lettuce to…

Do I need a vaccination card to dine in?

As of September 13th the Mandate to enter and dine in you will need to show your Covid Vaccine Card or a Covid Negative test taken 24/48 hours. A copy on your cell phone or the QR Code from Safe Hawaii App or a photo copy of your Vaccine Card. You…

The restaurant is smaller but it was clean and the cashier was fine. We ordered the Soy Garlic wings(powerful but good), Gang-Jeong(A Must Try) wings plate with rice, a Secret sauce boneless wings mini-plate with Mac salad and fries, Ddeok-Bokki and 2 sides of fried Mandoo. It was a reasonable 10-15 minute wait and the food came out hot and delicious. The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable, and air conditioned, which makes it easy to sit down and enjoy your meal. The staff is efficient and gets the job done, although they come across a little like young efficient robots--polite enough, but not much personality or warmth. My only real issue is the price. It is hard for me to justify spending $17+ for a plate with just a few pieces of boneless chicken and some sides. If the prices were a little more reasonable, or the portions included a bit more chicken, I could justify a 5-star rating. For now, it is a solid 4 stars based on the cost-to-value ratio. The food is good enough that I would still come back once in a while.

Ordered by phone the day prior, and just gave them my phone number as usual (it's how they identify you when you pick up, with no worries about duplicate or misspelled names.). Every time I've ordered in advance, our order has always been packed neatly and ready in a box for takeout. (My brother had brought a box just in case, and smoothly offered it to their staff for someone else's future order.) The restaurant has several tables for dining in, and markings on the floor for those waiting in line. It's brightly lit and clean as well. I appreciate their staff, food, service, and generous servings. They make us look so good with our potluck contributions! So what did we order? Half chicken katsu, half chicken wings, a small platter ($45 for the small pan, but picture a much loaded tray) - it's a great value deal! It was the same order our cousins loved when we brought it on Christmas Day (they especially love the wings, but we love the katsu-so this year we asked for half-half instead of all katsu, and they were so happy, ha ha!) Oh, and they give you a nice big container of yummy katsu sauce;)! I like their panko and cooking method, as whatever they do, the chicken is nice and crisp, and tasty - with, or without the sauce, actually. First time that I actually tried the wings, as I'm not a wing person. (I didn't even try it at Christmas, lol.). But, it was nice and crisp, lightly seasoned, and the wings had lots of meat on them. Easy finger food, and they were not dripping in oil, either, which I appreciated! Also ordered (for the first time) a small platter of chicken chow mein (a little over $30?). It was based on a good recommendation by an admittedly biased family member of the owners, and we were pleasantly surprised! The small pan was covered in wrap and then foil, because the mound of noodles was seriously kinda big! My brother was like, quick, go tell mom to come look before we open it (as she's picky, so it's hard to impress her). It was filled with lots of veggies (sliced carrots, cabbage, onions, etc) and bbq chicken pieces, tossed with great flavor (I want to say it was a nice sauce, but this wasn't a wet noodle dish.). My dad added Chinese mustard soy sauce, but my mom and I thought it was perfect the way it was. Oh, don't laugh, we're only a family of four, so yes, we ate two meals - lunch and dinner - and still packed a ton of leftovers! As we watched the game, we commented to each other what great choices we had made. (We also had sushi trays and other treats, and of course, chips, and my brother's dip. My brother said we may not have had a favorite team to cheer on today, but it was a great excuse for a party, ha ha!) I know we're doing a repeat for our next occasion, for sure! We'll gradually try some of their other foods, and it's farther away than we'd like to drive (I know, it's not that far, but we live on the other side, ok?). My brother agrees it's worth the drive - it's across Aloha Stadium and literally in the same spot as Ice Palace; and we saw quite the line at the Taco Bell drive through when we were looking for parking;). He also compared it to the cost and serving size of what we ordered on New Year's, from a restaurant much closer to where we live. Hands down, it was not even a close comparison, his emphasis added. So go here, it's perfect for family dinners and potlucks and I hope you agree with my assessment;)! Oops, I didn't take any pictures, aiya!!!

I was surprised to see the place pretty empty on a Friday night around 7. I went to the bar to order take out and the guy working was really nice and took my takeout order. I will say it smelled amazing in the restaurant. Food took about 10 mins to come out. The catfish was great, two pretty big pieces very well seasoned. The Mac and Cheese and Yams was also pretty good. I will say the Mac tasted better than it looked and I only say that because at first glance it didn't seem to have much cheese but I was wrong. The corn bread tasted good but was dry. I warmed it and added some butter and that didn't trick. The only thing I personally wasn't a fan of was the greens. They weren't necessarily bad but like Keith Lee says I don't know if I'm their target audience. They tasted a bit sweet and there was something else in the seasoning that I wasn't a huge fan of but couldn't quite put my finger on. I almost forgot the plate came with "yellow seasoned rice" which is under the fish on the Mac side. Honestly it's a free inclusion so not super fair to judge it. Everything in the picture was about $47 bucks. In my opinion that's a bit high and I'm guessing that's because it's in Waikīkī. I definitely plan to go back especially to try the Happy Hour, and I'd like to dine in to see how that goes.

Definitely worth ordering at least once for the experience because wow... you'll feel it lol I also appreciated that they have a dedicated allergy menu, which made ordering so much easier. I tried the brisket and thought it was tender and flavorful. Some bites were a little fattier than I personally prefer, but overall it was good and not overly saucey. My friend ordered the spicy crispy chicken sandwich and absolutely devoured it. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was casual and fun, and I'd definitely come back.

Although we got take out this time, I wouldn't mind dining in sometime. My bf and I shared a 3 meat, 2 side bbq plate, with the following selections: - brisket - pulled pork - sausage - cornbread - baked beans The meats were okay. Not amazing but not bad at the same time. It came with a small container of bbq sauce. My bf liked the cornbread but I thought it was a little dry. The baked beans literally just tasted like the canned baked beans, which isn't necessarily a bad thing I guess lol. I wouldn't mind trying it again but probably wouldn't get the bbq again. It wasn't anything special.

Service was very friendly and accommodating. The counter person explain how to order also asked if we needed more bbq sauce. I ordered their single order BBQ ribs plate . Their plates normally come with coleslaw and 1 side. Since I normally don't eat coleslaw I asked the counter person if I can substitute. She replied no problem so I got baked beans and corn. Their baked beans was on the spicy side and their bbq ribs was ok good taste but not really fall of the bone type . Overall I would say a solid 4 stars Support local

Banana Pudding: 0/5…read more I was grabbing breakfast nearby at the Koa Pancake House but I've seen that this place had banana pudding on their menu. So I swung by on my way out to the parking lot for a sweet treat for later. I have to say this is probably one of the worst banana puddings I've ever had. It's one of my favorite desserts so I've had plenty from all over the country. If it's on the menu, there's a 90% chance I'm going to buy it. Their's tastes artificial. The pudding was reminiscent of a snack pack, but something about it made it taste worse. I don't know if it was additional sugar or how long I had been sitting in their fridge, but the pudding was pretty bad. There's maybe three or four nilla wafers on the bottom and one on the top for presentation. For the few wafers on the bottom, there was a slice of banana on top. Potentially totaling maybe three slices. For those slices, though, the banana was not ripe. You could tell the banana slices needed a few more days before use. Overall, I was wildly disappointed. I would highly not recommend their banana pudding, which is such a shame. I wished I loved it but sadly 0/5. The best part of the whole pudding was the 4 soft wafers. If that's the case, that should tell you something.

Looked over the menu and found a handwritten "Bento" sign located below the counter. Bento price is $7.50 except for the Meat Jun for $8.50. It comes with the main entree, 2 mandoo, 1 veggie and a scoop of rice...wow, good deal! Main entree choices are: Mochiko Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Chicken Katsu, Fried Shrimp, Fried Fish, Shrimp Tempura, Meat Jun or Musubi Combo. The veggie choices are: Choy Sum, Corn, Kim Chee, Shoyu Potato, Bean Sprouts or Japchae. You can substitute the rice for an extra veggie. I ordered the Meat Jun with Choy Sum. For $8.50, they gave a good amount of food which I enjoyed and had leftovers for another meal. The guy behind the counter was nice and service was fast. I would definitely return to try something different. This place is in Palama Supermarket that's located at Waimalu Shopping Center. Lots of free parking but this complex is always busy. Sometimes it's hard to find so park at the first stall that's empty. There are 2 entrances/exits that circles around so if you can't find parking, you have to circle around again because the isle is only one-way.
