First time dining here. Four of us made plans to have lunch here at 11 am. 3 of us arrived early and when the Open sign turned on at 10:30 we entered. We were given a regular menu and a single sheet with Lunch Combos. Three of us decided upon a two choice lunch combo with different choices. One wanted cold noodles. Our jaws literally dropped in awe as the first plate arrived with vegetable tempura and bbq pork. It was humongous!!! My meat Jun and zucchini was pretty huge as well. The person who ordered kalbi with another choice paid $3+ extra for the kalbi selection. We all remarked how delicious our meals were and we all took left overs home. The servers are friendly, refill your water and don't chase you out after you paid the bill. We hadn't all met together since Covid so we had lots to catch up on. You will need to ask for a key to use the outside restroom. The interior furniture and menus show they've been in use for quite some time. Dinner in Aiea, Hawaii... My friend and I were at a seminar at Aiea Library and she wanted to have dinner afterwards. I saw Ruby S. check in at Kim Chee Restaurant 7 and thought - wow... that's nearby! Let's try it! Located at Westridge Center, Kim Chee 7 was on the ground level, to the right of the Hawaii State Credit Union. The restroom is "under the stairs" and a key is needed for the door. Shared parking was free. I walked in and signed my name on the clipboard at the cashier's station. The place was packed! I saw four parties signed in ahead of us, and two tables were being cleared. That meant that we'd be seated soon. The friendly worker called us in and pointed to the middle table. It was set with menus, cups of iced water, utensils, napkins, and three dishes of banchan. I ordered Mixed Plate Special A because it had some of everything: BBQ chicken, meat jun, BBQ beef, and fried mandoo. My plate came with a bowl of white rice and a bowl of seaweed soup. My friend and I came here for lunch. He ordered the lunch combo which had a lot of food. I ordered the soft tofu soup. The flavor was light and not overly salty which is my preference. The vegetables included carrots, onions and zucchini. It came with clams, shrimp and beef which I gave to my friend since I don't each those. The only vege options were the vegetable tempura or the tofu and mushroom dish. You could also order the bimbibap and just remove the meat if you're not super strict. We got seated right away on a Wednesday evening. There are lots of booths but the tables are a little bit too close to the seats for my liking - the kine you gotta sit up straight for. Upon getting seated they give some banchan - kimchi, cabbage and I think some kind of radish? And some seaweed soup. They also refill upon request. We got a meat jun plate, meat jun & shrimp tempura combo, and meat jun/kalbi/bbq chicken combo x2. The only negative thing we had was that they told us they ran out of mochiko a little while after we ordered so we had to figure out a back up option and THEN wait for our food to come out which took an extra 15 minutes after everyone else's plates were delivered. 10/01/25 Had some family in town from outer island and on their last day I decided to take bring them here since they've never been & it had been several years since I'd been. Another wait person brought us water. Our friendly waitress came by a couple of times but we had a hard time deciding what we wanted to eat. During this time, we were brought some kim chee and bowls of clear seaweed soup, as well as our eating utensils including chopsticks, if needed. We finally decided and placed our orders. This waitress was so nice and patient with us. One family member ordered just an appetizer of shoyu poke with rice. It was a good sized portion and he said after eating it all that it filled him. The 2 gals of the family ordered a mix plate that they shared after I forewarned them how huge the portions were. They decided on the vegetable tempura and the small bone kalbi. It was a WOW moment when their plate was bought, a huge portion of tempura. I tasted some and it was ono, cooked perfectly. They loved the kalbi. I also got a mixed plate of BBQ pork and meat jun, piled high on the plate over the banchan and rice. I got full just looking at the plate but I dug right in . The BBQ pork was delicious and very tasty, not too much fat & not over grilled or burnt. The meat jun pile was endless but cooked just the way meat jun should be with the thinly slice beef and egg batter coating. Great flavors. I took an after pic of what I boxed to take home and it almost looked like I hadn't touch the plate, so much left over. Customer service was outstanding. Our water glasses never went empty. The food also came out fast, I don't think we even waited 10-15 minutes. Banchan was spot on, clean restaurant. Overall, hands down this is the best Korean food on the island. It may be a little higher than some places but you get more than what you pay for - lots of great tasting food and that's good value. They do a lot of take out orders too. I would not even give a single star. We came in to order food to go. Gave the guy our order (1 combo of kalbi and bbq chicken, 2 pc kalbi special, and side of tonkatsu). Guy said total is $120. Dang!!! Was so shocked! We checked the menu and prices. The combo is only $30 something, the 2pc kalbi is around $35, the side order of tonkatsu around $19. Do the math! It doesn't add up. Then the lady came, said we ordered the lunch special which was $55. I told the guy staff that we are even pointing at the specific order to him, how is it possible that he is ringing the lunch special which was in a totally different menu card. Then lady said she will ring the order once more but informed us that it would be an hour to get the order!!!! How on earth this guy did not even tell us that in the beginning?! Seriously?! My friend chose Kim Chee7 as her bday dinner location as she loves the butterfish. I used to love their food until tonight's visit. Kim Chee7 has delicious food and generous portions, however, I don't believe I will be going there again. I ate my fill and was looking forward to bringing the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. However, I had an expected addition to my plate. A LIVE ROACH!!!! I didn't take a pic, because I was so shocked and wanted to get the plate off of the table before it possibly ran onto anyone else's plate. We called the waiter over and he apologized. He offered to make another plate, but my appetite was gone after that experience. The same for my friends. When the check came, could you believe I was still charged for my food? I went to ask for the manager. I told him:" I'm not sure if you heard, but there was a roach in my food. I don't believe I should be charged for the plate of food I could not finish due to that incident. " He said: " oh yes, I heard about it, I will take it off." Ok, that was good. So glad I saw a recent Instagram post on Kim Chee #7, and I surprised my hubby on this recent Sunday Funday! My husband I call him the Meat Jun snob, he really is, he has complaints on every meat jun that I get for him, since the nearest Kim Chee restaurant close to our place closed down a few years ago. First time trying the man doo kook soo, Noodle soup with thin long rice noodles, with man doo, kim chee and beef. I enjoyed this soup and it was a great addition to the lunch plate. I am so happy, we are so happy we finally visited Kim Chee 7 after all these years and of course we will be back for more!!
