This place is very chic yet elegant , they have prefect areas to eat whether you want a booth or table, chairs or at the bar and for big parties they have their round snouts tables. Our server was Justin B! He was amazing!! We had such a positive & wonderful experience with him, he was super down to earth, very knowledgeable, friendly, kind, caring & super helpful. We had some questions about some meats & and drinks. He answered all of them. There so many dishes to choose from, as far as drinks , non or alcoholic drinks . A bit of everything, the atmosphere of this place is very warm and happy! Everyone is always excited to eat a delicious meal & have great waiters & waitress to server them. First off, shout out to Anais! Anais, you were crucial to our quick lunch date getaway. With your advice on helping us to pick out what we had in mind, hubby and I had a pleasant and fun lunch. Much needed, indeed. It's been a minute dining at Gen and with that said, it seems like the menu changes at times. There are now upgrades that can be added for premium, with a hefty $20 per person at your party. It is ALL or NOTHING so go with this in mind if you plan to get premium, everyone has to get it. If one person decides they don't want it, you will not be able to upgrade- hope that makes sense! They serve instant ramen and we tried it for an additional $8. As ramen lovers, while it wasn't bad, it isn't something we would order again. Everything else was great and it helped that our items came out in single servings so that we would be able to order more variety and apps. Definitely get the vegetables if that's your jam, opt for some extra jalapeños and garlic to flavor your meat. Order something fatty so you can oil down your grill prior to cooking to prevent your meat from getting stuck onto the grill. read more

Horrible service! Arrived with a party of 5. Sat there forever before anyone would show up to take our order. We placed our food order and proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. The table next to us got there after we did, received all of their drinks and food and started enjoying second ordering... Server kept ignoring us and passing us by. After what seemed like forever someone finally showed up to tell us they sent all our food to another table. I asked if they had sweet tea and they said yes... But failed to mention they did not have anything to sweeten it with. It was disgusting unsweetened tea and their only offer was to bring me a glass of lemonade to try and make it sweeter.... When we final got our food we had to turn the heat up on our grill ourselves after spending over 15 minutes trying to cook a thin piece of meat. I also ordered fish and it arrived burnt and inedibe... Barely got any apology. Overall food was VERY OVER PRICED for the service we got and what we were given. Definitely not worth it. One of the worst dining experiences I've had. After ordering, we waited over 20 minutes, only to have random items we never ordered dropped on our table while the actual dishes came out slowly and randomly. It's a place where you cook your own food, so I'm honestly not sure what exactly takes so long. What's even more ridiculous is that this is an all-you-can-eat place, yet if they bring the wrong items and you don't eat them, they still charge you for it. I have had many satisfying experiences food wise and service in the past here but the service provided by Juana on today's visit was horrible. She was my server on my previous visit and it was just as bad as today's but i decided to ignore it. Very disappointing in the way ordering was handled, seemed to be judgmental, and also irritated but with other guest complete opposite. This is my go-to restaurant for special occasions or casual dates! The food is yummy but service is very inconsistent hence the 4 stars. Sometimes they take forever to get your order out, get it wrong, or just won't come back at all or refill drinks. Other times, the service is quick, kind and efficient! It really depends on the day you go. The floor is always slippery so you really have to be careful on the way to your table or to the bathroom. I have found a sticker from the vegetables in my food once. However, I can't stop coming back since the food is so good and satisfying! The ambience is really nice too! I've been to a lot of all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ spots, and anyone who goes to AYCE KBBQ knows the service can really make or break the experience. Our visit to Gen Korean BBQ was honestly one of the smoother and more enjoyable ones we've had, and a huge part of that was because of our server, Aaron. From the moment we sat down, Aaron greeted us with a great attitude and explained how the ordering process worked for the all-you-can-eat menu. For anyone who's been to KBBQ before, you know how important pacing is -- if the server isn't attentive, you can end up waiting forever between rounds. Aaron made sure that never happened. He was incredibly attentive and always seemed to show up right when we were about to need something. One thing that stood out right away was how on top of the grill management he was. He changed out our grill plates at the perfect times so the meat never burned or stuck, which honestly makes a huge difference when you're ordering multiple rounds. Our table stayed clean, empty plates were cleared quickly, and our drinks were constantly refilled without us having to wave anyone down. Another thing I appreciated was that Aaron was really proactive with the service. Instead of just taking orders and disappearing, he checked in frequently and made sure the next round of meats was coming out at a good pace. That's one of the biggest things at an AYCE Korean BBQ spot -- keeping the flow of food going so you can actually enjoy the experience instead of waiting around. Even though the restaurant was busy, Aaron stayed friendly, upbeat, and professional the entire time. He made the whole experience feel organized and relaxed, which is not always easy to do in a packed KBBQ restaurant with grills going everywhere. Overall, this was one of the better AYCE Korean BBQ experiences we've had in a while, and Aaron's service definitely played a big role in that. Love coming here with the family or for date night! Been here 100x and can't believe I have not left a review. The food is always so good ! It gets very busy and the wait sometimes can be annoying which I will say is why I gave 4 stars, simply because we don't mind the wait but the last few times we have gone, the ETAs are way off. 1 time we were told 1-1.5 hours so we walked away to go around the collection, got called 20 min later and as happy as we were, we had to tell them we were walking back and 10 min away--the lady seemed irritated. Another time, they said a 30 min wait and it was the opposite over an hour. Again, no big deal but more accurate ETAs are helpful in the event we want to go somewhere while waiting. The menu has been updated, and it seems the management has as well (???) so the food is different. Particularly, the KFC chicken. It used to be fresh cut chicken and cooked, now it's frozen and cooked and you can taste the difference - wasn't a fan. It took a while for us to get waited on but when we did, our food came it quickly, but we had to remind them of our drinks which didn't come until the 2nd half of our meal. For context, we ordered appetizers & 5 plates a meat the first time..... I ordered a sprite, drank it and instantly knew it wasn't sprite. I returned it saying it was tonic water, waiter asked if I wanted a new one and I said no, as we were almost finished eating. As he took my drink back, he asked the bartender if it was tonic water and she said YES. Why would you purposely give me something I didn't ask for???!!! Come to find out, she said their sprite tasted funny and she didn't think people would notice - I DID! Outside of that annoying moment, the space looks the same, some food is different, but overall...the entrees are still good. I'll go again, just being mindful of what I order! read more

I hadn't been back to GEN in a few years after a pretty rough visit when the management first changed, and honestly we stopped coming after that. But today was my mom's birthday and she really wanted KBBQ, so we decided to give it one more shot. I'm really glad we did. The food was great, everything came out fast, and the whole place just felt more organized than I remembered. Our server Aaron was super cool and checked on us a lot without being overbearing. He even talked with us for a bit and explained that the transition period back then was tough but that things are running way smoother now, which you can definitely tell. It honestly felt like a completely different experience from the last time we were here. My family had a great time, my mom was happy, and we all left full and satisfied. I previously left a 3-star review the last time I was here, and unfortunately I had the same issue again this time. We were served by Maribel, and once again, she forgot to bring out items we ordered. We came to celebrate our friend's birthday because he especially loves the kimchi at this place. Right from the start, we requested 4 extra sides of kimchi because the portions are quite small and our friend is obsessed with them, along with the rest of our usual order. Halfway through the meal, everything else came out except the 4 kimchi sides. I noticed her checking on her other tables multiple times, but she never stopped by ours. The only time she came back was after all her other tables had already gotten rice, just to ask how many rice orders we had, even though we had clearly told her at the beginning. When she finally came back, we asked for 5 kimchi sides this time because our friend specifically wanted to eat it with the meat we ordered, but by then the meat was already gone. She brought out only 3, which still wasn't what we asked for. I'm not sure why they are being so stingy with side dishes. I understand being careful with meat since people might not finish it, but the side dishes are so tiny and can be finished extremely fast. I'm just really disappointed that this happened again, especially since we came from far away for a special occasion and were paying customers. I didn't wanna leave a tip after what she did, but my friend was generous enough to do it anyway, which made me feel awful because he didn't even get what he wanted for his birthday. At least she didn't accuse us of returning the meat we ordered when we never did like last time we came I guess. If I ever come back, I'll definitely be asking to sit in another server's section because this is absolutely unacceptable. read more

This is from a visit almost a year ago. The place was busy and even with new ownership, it was maintained clean. That was a positive. However, the service was mediocre compared to the servers of the past. Even acknowledging that it was busy, I believe many of our requests were just forgotten. For example, my wife had ordered more sesame seed oil a couple of times from our server. After a while of no response, she asked someone else, and he brought it over with salt in a shallow bowl. He poured the oil, but it wasn't enough. She politely stated that and offered to do it herself while reaching for the decanter. The person did not like it and swiped her hand away and said, "I'll do it!". She didn't like that, and unfortunately, I was too busy speaking with my guests that I didn't see it. She didn't want to say anything because we had a new friend at the table. But the biggest issue, I felt was the food. The meat was not good at all. Layered in fat, it was obviously from a low-quality supplier. The first time I saw it; I was a little upset with my wife for ordering Korean bacon and said so. She shot back at me by exclaiming, "...it is not Korean bacon, this is their Kalbi!". Oh, so sad. Their ban-chan wasn't much better. To their credit, the previous ownership was always lacking in this department also, with only four side dishes. But the problem was never getting a timely refill. Besides my son, we haven't been there since. After my son's recent visit, he stated that he would've rather have gone to a taco shop as it would've tasted better and would've been a lot more affordable, but he was a guest of his girlfriend and therefore had no say in the matter. read more

I went up within that time frame, but the host had already removed me from the waitlist just 3 minutes after the message was sent. On top of that, she wouldn't acknowledge me or even make eye contact when I tried to speak with her, which felt extremely rude and unprofessional. Unfortunately, the experience didn't improve once we were seated. Our server had a very negative attitude and made both me and my boyfriend uncomfortable with his energy and demeanor. This is review strictly about service and hospitality. We came here with a large group of 12, including small children. When we arrived, the hostess told us it would be a 30-minute wait. After waiting and coming back, another hostess told us it would be another 30 minutes. On top of that, the second hostess was hostile and rude. Rather than acknowledging the miscommunication, she repeatedly said she wasn't responsible for what the other hostess told us. There was no empathy or understanding shown toward our situation--even though it was late in the evening and we had young kids with us. We understand busy restaurants and longer wait times, but being misled, treated rudely, and shown no compassion made this a very frustrating experience. Unlike many KBBQ establishments in Ventura county, this one stood out with many choices of meat selections, and if you are up for it, may go all out to ordering the premium menu items. The premium menu (see the photos attachment) offered more better quality as well as portioned meat options for those meat lovers. Our server, Dave T, was very friendly, attentive, and helpful, offering frequent grill changes to providing more meat orders in timely manner so that no interruptions between cooking and eating time. To complement numerous orders of BBQ meats, a few side dishes of slices of pickled sweet-&-sour radish, rice paper, crispy ride cakes, and more kimchi were added to our orders. One note regarding side dishes, though, Gen offered only a few quantity of simple & yet traditional small side dishes. You may ask for more as needed. The decor radiant blue hues radiating out of each table gave out aura of calmness while consuming the delicious, pungent, and sometimes spice laced meats. We were sorta 'hangry' when we first got there but as time went by, the overall environment calm us down and gave us plenty of joy eating at this KBBQ restaurant.
