My mother took her car here a 2006 Chevy Malibu I'm a mechanic and know the in and outs of a vehicle I did a inspection and diagnostic on the vehicle and came to the conclusion via diagnostic scanner Code came back as solenoid 2 was bad wasn't shifting out of 3rd gear They called and informed us that the pcm was bad. Approved the part replacement without consent forged multiple work orders with her signature onto other work orders approving the work without our approval. I went into the shop to further investigate the situation and upon arriving and questioning the owner I was yelled at threatened and called a Racial slurs. The owner himself called me a wetback and threatened to call the police. We eventually took them to court where they brought many lawyers and we had no spare money for a lawyer. Warranty time was also changed. Said a part was replaced and when I took the auto to another he said the part was not replaced. As a matter of fact, that part is no longer manufactured. Everyone stay away from this gene brown transmission on grissom.. I took my truck in for a transmission rebuild. They claimed the truck was fix after the wrok was done after charging me 7400 the first time. The same day I called telling who ever was on the phone with me that the tran temp was has reached 230 degrees.. that's over heating to me. The person on the phone claim it was at the right temp. So I left it as that. Not even a couple months pass and the trans is leaking trans fluid again and making a noise. Thinking it was covered with Warranty. Finding out it wasn't. The claimed I had to bring it in at 12000 miles driven . Which they did not tell me . So now I had to pay another 2400 to repairs . Now months later the trans is leaking again . The trans light is on again . The trans is slipping again. All this in less then a year. So now im out close to 10k in repairs that did not fix my trans . I took it to another shop to diagnose why its still messing up . Come to find it was not done right . Also when i told them the price gene brown trans charged me . The other was shocked and said i could have gotten a new transmission for way less then what gene brown trans charged me. Took the car in with a broken shifter assembly. Said they could flush the transmission fluids and replace the shifter assembly for around $800. They needed a $400 deposit which I gave over the phone. Went to pick up my car, the bill was $950. I signed for it. I also had to sign for the deposit which I thought was strange. Turns out the deposit did not go towards the original bill but they outright kept it and also bumped it up to $527. So for transmission service and a shifter assembly it cost $1500. I could have almost bought a new transmission for that. read more

Took my car to Grissom location since my transmission was originally serviced by 281 location and Grissom is closer. They took my car in quickly, and serviced the transmission, and did a good job for a fair price on that. They told me I had a power steering leak, and it would be @ $500 so I said go ahead since they had it. The Power steering leak was not resolved, and I was told there were additional repairs needed to resolve it after I had paid for it to be repaired. The owner Ron, is very rude. Yes, I am the customer who is paying for service, and should be treated professionally and politely. So, 1 star given for servicing the transmission, and two stars deducted for me paying to repair the power steering fluid leak and it not being repaired, and two stars deducted for the poor customer service of the owner manager. read more

I took my Mustang in to have the clutch, flywheel, clutch fork, and throw-our bearing replaced.. Everything was smooth until I got my car back and heard a loud grinding sound - something obviously was not right. It turns out the new flywheel had not been aligned correctly. When I heard the noise upon my first start, one of the employees tried to convince me that it was normal (which it obviously was not) and my car was fine. I insisted on speaking to the manager and he told me that they would take care of it with the labor costs on them this time... because of this, they held on to my car another entire week when the job could have been done much sooner. When I went back to get the car the owner seemed annoyed and gave me nothing but my keys and turned his back on me immediately, with no sort of explanation or apology. The job was not done right the first time. An employee tried lying to me telling me there was no problem when there was - and if I'd believed him I would've driven off with a flywheel not properly aligned with him KNOWING it. I believe he only tried this because I'm younger... which is typical of a shop. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Fishy all around. read more

These guys were great! I went here to have my truck checked out before going on a long road trip from San Antonio to Virginia. They slid me right in and looked over my whole truck. Checked all the fluids and the transmission, topped off my engine oil with Mobil 1 (about a 1/4 of a quart) and then had me out the door and rolling feeling prepared that my truck would be fine for the trip. They are professional scam artist. They prey on ignorant clients inventing that your transmission needs to be taken apart for only 200 dollars and they tell you that is doing that and changing the fluid will probably fix the problem. When I took mines in it did not have a problem I just wanted a checkup. Well they convince me they had to do an overhaul. After paying 1200 dollars I drive ut to LA then on the way back it start to smoke. When I got to SA, TX I could not fine the reciept they told ne dont worry we will look for ours in tge files so tgey told me leave your car here and we will fix it. After 3 days I go back to the shop my cars transmission in pieces so I ask hiw much longer they told me they cannot find my invoice so if I cannot find mine it would be another 1200 dollars. I've had Gene Brown service 2 cars of mine. An Eclipse and a Volkswagen. On the Eclipse, they rebuilt the transmission, and it died on me 2 months later. On the Volkswagen, they replaced the transmission, 2 months later it died. Also, in being returned my car my hood was dented in. I brought this up and they said I brought it in dented. I ordered a torque converter over the phone, The person said it would be 195.00 total including shipping. And that he would send me a box to put my old converter in and send it to him. I get the converter in the mail and the invoice was over 400.00 dollars. I called them and talked to the same person and he said he never said 195.00 total. After some time I come back because car was not grabbing gears (December 26, 2019), and after sitting in the garage 7 days I come back because he never contacted me and he tells me it will be $150 to $200 for diagnostic, (something told me it's obviously going to be the part not covered because he always manages the way to have your money) then tells me that the part is not included but that online the OEM part is less than $80 and had to wait for shipping, after 6 more days I call and he tells me the part was wrong and will be shipped overnight by the Company, I come again (day 13 at 5:30pm) to see if it was good to go, but Mister RON started screaming at me and disrespecting me in front of his employees while I was in Military Uniform, telling me if I was mad because he didn't kiss my ass the first day and more, (like if jobs were free or not paid) said it's my problem because I wanted aftermarket parts, when he told me "it's the same part but $100 less". Day 14, I get in contact with JAG (Legal Office from Military Base) they verified this place is NOT accredited by BBB and began some steps with Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board, BBB and Texas Attorney General. I also visited the Dealership to buy the part myself and ask about time and price for this repair, and they assured me that this place (Gene Brown Transmission at Grissom Road) was stabbing me with the price and time, that it was a less than half day job and was less than $500 including parts. I got in contact with the Main Manager of these Shops in San Antonio (Mister Chris Gutierrez) and he couldn't help but did not want me to proceed with Legal (because BLACKLIST it's not good for the business in a Military City). Day 16 (friday January 10), I take another part for replacement to the shop, because he said that this simple tube was giving too much pressure, needed replacement and he would do the job for free (Yes because he had to remove the line anyways to work the parts). After 16 days sitting at the shop, Mr Ron disrespects me again and tells me the car will be out of the shop and ready on Monday Jan.13. January 13, I call Gene Brown at 1:15pm and Mr Roger answered, I ask if vehicle is done, He went to verify and tells me that THE TECHNICIAN said "they are waiting for the slave cylinder to come in for replacement". I tell him that the vehicle was at shop only for a master clutch cylinder replacement work, with the parts I took to the shop on past Friday, and was not worked, was not worked on Saturday that shop was open and Monday was also not completed, until this person uncovers the lie they had with my vehicle. Mr Roger tells me to call back in 1 hour, I call back at 2:20pm from the same phone, and Mr Roger tells me that he doesn't know if car will be ready and started to get confused, told me "call back in 30 minutes", I call and they didn't answer. After 2 hours Mister Ron calls and says they Took the transmission down and replaced a "bearing" that was making noise (car was NOT taken to repair for any noise or broken parts). Mister RON was charging me $146 per hour = 2.5 hours = $365 dollars just for labor (without parts, that were $178.64 & $29). The car sat 23 days at the shop. Mister RON said to not come back, but my car was still in warranty for parts and labor, 1 year. He also BROKE the part the car had, so that way I had to replace it and not move it from his shop. Mister Ron LIED to me in many occasions and I have PROOF in video, audio, text messaging with time/dates, he even lied to the Manager (Mister Chris Gutierrez). I have never met a business person like this. He Practices FALSE announcement with discounts, I presented coupon for MILITARY DISCOUNT (15%, around $54) and a Discount coupon for jobs over $300 ($50 discount) and he DID NOT want honor them, and I have witness of this. I told Mister Ron I WAS TAKING ALL THE REPLACED PARTS, but then he told me he threw the parts away, because he knew I was taking everything to verify and this could easy be FRAUD. Took my Jeep there because they said they would work with the transmission Warranty. Well after a crap load of BS, I got the jeep back. But they gave my the jeep back with NO gas (I literally barely made it to the closest gas station which was luckly down the street) and they did not fill up my coolant even tho they claimed they did. They also told me I needed a new EGR valve and would install it once I got it but after a few of my friends looked over the jeep, the valve was already changed out and was new (so they were trying to screw me over). what was still causing my engine light to come on was there being too much freon. After letting some out and the engine check light went off and there were no signs of any other issues. These guys were so mad at the BS warranty issue, that wasn't even my fault, they were trying to screw me over saying I needed more stuff done that wasn't Necessary. read more

I had my car working on at this place in April. I had a total transmission rebuilt and some things done to the left side of my front axle. Spend thousands of dollars under the impression I was having the best service possible. On 7/18 my transmission light came on and I called them ASAP and was told to bring it in on 7/20. When I went to pick up my car in April as I was driving I noticed that the steering wheel had to be turned to the right in order to go straight. If not it'll go towards the left. I returned 15 days later for the follow up and thats when I told them about the steering column, I was told I would receive a call to get it fixed free of charge. I waited 2 weeks for the call, after that I would call and nobody would answer and it never game me the option to leave a message. When I brought my car in today they corrected the leak they claimed my transmission had. I brought up the column and they said that they didn't do any work that could possibly mess it up. I made the comment that they worked on the axle and that any work like that can mess up the alignment. He stated the owner was out of town and that he will have him call me because he can't make the decision. I left my number and headed home. I didn't get far before my transmission light came back on and had to return to the shop. Now they are claiming that my speed sensor is going out and that is why that warning is coming up. The conversation about my alignment was brought up again and Garrett said "why is it the first ones to work on things are always the first ones to blame" I said "excuse me" and he repeated himself. That is when I said "The reason is, is because when I drop off my car with a correct alignment I expect it to be the same way" he just rolled his eyes. He finally agreed to take my car to get the alignment done. Please note that when I pulled into the parking lot for the SECOND time I had 103 miles till empty. I am aware that they're not 100% accurate that they could be 5 miles or so off. When my car returned for the alignment all he (Garrett) did was walk in and sat down. Didn't inform me of anything. He looked and said "well? you're keys are in the car" (please note that they always have my A/C on full blast with the windows down wasting my gas) As i'm about to pull out of the parking lot i noticed the amount I had left to empty. it was at 50. I parked and went back to the office to find out why I am missing 50 miles worth of gas. He stopped me outside the door and that's when I informed him about the gas. He claims that its due to "test drives" I asked him many times "You drove 50 miles for a test drive" (note that he didn't drive the car the second time. just to alignment place, which is down the street) and back and with every time he kept saying no. He was yelling and kept moving closer and closer to my face continuing to scream. He state that I "better be lucky service was received for my fault" when I began to speak he said that I better leave the place before he calls the police. My family and I will NEVER have service done here again. I will continue to contact the store till I am able to speak with the owner and see what the actions are going to be done as far as Garrett and the missing gas. read more
