I am new to the area, and Better Transmission was recommended by a local friend who has used them a few times for her cars. It is a father & son shop and very clean - an essential element essential in a quality transmission shop. Service was trans fluid and filter change with pan removal, inspection and cleaning. Service was sufficiently timely with good communication on transmission status, and they charged a reasonable price. I'll be going back for all my transmission service needs. read more

I dropped off my truck to get my transfer case looked at, took my truck on a 10 mile trip to tell me it's my rear differential. I dropped my truck off at a different location and already had my problem fixed, I have called the store multiple times my truck was at the shop including one of the guys that had told me to go there which was the manager, shop and manager ignored my calls, i pull up to the shop and he's on the phone with somebody. In my idea of mind this is very unprofessional, ignoring calls and taking a vehicle on a pretty good test drive. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! read more

To be fair, I never actually took my car there. I called, multiple times, and they never called back (after speaking to them) to let me know if they could work on it. If you have more business than you can handle, don't need the work, or can't handle repairing a Subaru, I Understand. However, leaving me hanging with a disabled vehicle and No callbacks is poor customer service. It was repaired elsewhere. read more

I had an issue with my Mercedes ML 550, which I normally only take to the Mercedes dealership, however it was a Saturday, Mercedes had no available appointments and I was getting ready to leave out of town. On the recommendation of a neighboring business I stopped by Better Transmission and spoke to Rene Perales. He not only took my vehicle in right away, ran diagnostics testing, got the necessary part directly from Mercedes but had my vehicle back up and running before the end of the day! It's been two weeks now and my vehicle is running perfectly! Not only did they save me money, the service I received was better than I get from Mercedes! These guys are very high in price and are not honest. We brought my little brother's z350 to get the Slave cylinder and flywheel replaced only to have them tell him us the clutch was burned out and they didn't feel comfortable putting the car back together as is. The clutch was brand new and obviously in working condition so we took pictures and sent it to other repair shops all of whom said there's nothing wrong with the part. At this point we'd already racked up a $400 bill to drop the transmission making it unfeasible to have it towed to a new shop so we ended up spending $2300 on something that should have been absolutely no more than 1k. To make matters worse we had to wait days for the owner to get back to Bruce when ever we had a question. Stay away... read more

Brought my vehicle for a major repair, and I must say they did a very good job. Was done in a week, I had to make the initial contact to see when it would be ready. So the reason for the bad review is because in the time frame I took my car to get serviced the spare change, I had in the middle console was taken, also five one dollar bills. ASKING for a Good Mechanic! RELIABLE! Dedicated! PROFESSIONAL! Attentive! THEN there was RENE! initially conducted business over text. HE RESPONDED ASAP! I had my vehicle towed to his shop without me. He handled the drop off, called me to verify the vehicle. It was dropped on a Saturday. He diagnosed the vehicle, that was having fuel problems and wouldn't start. I had already changed my fuel pump and didn't want to pull the gas tank if it wasn't needed. by Monday-first thing in the morning I was receiving updates on the Cadillac DTS. Due to my schedule he was very flexible and understanding that texting was my only means of communication thru out the day. Tuesday he gave me the quote. I gave the green light and just like that I had a expected fix date/time. This Shop and his staff have done an IMPECCABLE JOB! He's the Mechanic that you want for the family. My husband and son are making a cross country drive from NC to CA. About two hours past San Antonio, where there was really no where to stop, they started having transmission problems. The randomly called Better Transmission in San Antonio and started to double back to get the car looked at. Rene was so fabulous to them! He gave them his # stayed late on Saturday night for them to arrive, worked on it on Sunday and even came back after closing Monday night to double check another issue for them. I just wanted to say thank you! They knew nothing about Better Transmission, had no referrals from anyone and could have been totally taken advantage of. Instead they were given the utmost care and consideration. I cannot say enough about Rene and everyone who helped work on my son's car to get them back on their way! We are truly grateful! Rene's team did work on my transmission back in 2016. A few months later my wife and I noticed the steering was off. We took the car back to his team to look at and they said there was nothing wrong. Not being a mechanic I took their word for it and had the car taken to get an alignment done. The problem continued and little by little got worse. The steering got so bad, that if felt unsafe to drive. I took the car to another mechanic and he showed me how one of the mounting bolts to the rack and pinion was very loose. The mechanic said it is possible to have steering problems with the rack and pinion/power steering if the rack and pinion was not secured. I took it back to Rene' team, they told me they tightened up the bolts and I should be good to go. They did not tighten the bolt and let me take the car with the bad steering. I called back to tell them my concern and again they asked me to bring car back in. They said they still could not see the loose bolt. I had to come and show them and their mechanic admitted he did not tighten the bolt. They also ripped the steering cover and lost some of the clamps. Long story short I was patient, (left the car with them for a total of over 8 hours to look at) and offered them to do the labor to repair my rack and pinion and I would pay for the parts. He told me they could do the job and it would cost me over $900. I told him they made the mistakes and I wanted something fairer. Rene said he could not do that and offered me a small some of money, I guess so I could go buy a new steering cover that they ripped. This place does not stand by their work and can leave you and your vehicle in a dangerous situation. BE CAREFUL! read more

I took my commercial work truck in to better transmission to have the transmission rebuilt after it failed on a job site . They picked it up for me on a Saturday after hours and brought it to their shop so they could start first thing Monday. They had to rebuild the transmission. After the rebuild we ran in to complications. I spoke with Rene and he had me bring it back to the shop. He made it a priority because I use this truck to make my living. He went over and above and just installed me a newly rebuilt transmission because he knew that when my truck was down I wasn't making any money. It was very good of him to make it right with me.
