Even though excellence has been my standard experience with all General Air technicians and staff, I still wish to post a review today. The technician, Ricky, arrived as expected. He was courteous, kind, personable, and professional. He did the service check and made a recommendation, which I thought was smart to do. He had the needed part and installed it. Dishonest - Pushy Sales - Bad Service - Don't Use General Air I recently took them up on a "free inspection," not realizing their plumbing technicians work on 100% commission. During the visit, I was pushed to sign off on thousands of dollars in "urgent" repairs: an $848 hose bib replacement, a $2,450 whole-home shutoff valve swap, a $989 gas earthquake valve, and a $6,639 whole-home water filtration system. To sell the filtration system, the technician brought up chlorine in the water supply and actually asked if I'd seen Erin Brockovich -- clearly trying to imply cancer risk to scare me into signing. The plumber also told me my tankless water heater needed to be flushed, at a cost of $180. I agreed and had it done. After he left, I checked my records and found I'd paid General Air that exact same amount for the exact same service just six months earlier, a service that isn't due again for another six months. I had already paid for something I didn't need. As far as I'm concerned, that's not an "inspection," that's just taking money from a customer who trusted them. It got worse with my AC. Their tech said I needed $1,400 in part replacements and hinted a whole new system might be smarter. I spent the following Friday getting three independent quotes from other local HVAC companies. Every single one confirmed the same thing: I just needed a loose wire tightened. I'm moving my whole service plan to a different company today. What bothers me most is thinking about how many other longtime customers, especially elderly homeowners, might be signing these estimates, or paying for services they don't need, without ever getting a second opinion or checking their own records. This is the best part - when I called to cancel my service agreement, they didn't ask any follow up questions. They already know. Fifteen years of loyalty, and this is how it ended. ### Review of General Air (via Costco Installation) We contacted Costco for a new heat pump system, and General Air was their assigned contractor. On **July 18**, a General Air salesman visited our home and gave us a **handwritten quote** for three Lennox systems: 25 SEER, 22 SEER, and 18 SEER. We chose the **25 SEER** model and signed a work order listing model numbers--but **no brochures, specifications, or official literature** were provided. The next day (**July 19**), installers arrived, and we immediately noticed the boxes were labeled **22 SEER**, with energy guide stickers showing **19-21.1 SEER2 efficiency**--not the higher-efficiency model we agreed to purchase. We tried repeatedly to reach the salesman and office but received **no response**. On **July 21**, one of the owners came by and said they would "make it right." We requested the **$3,443 price difference** between the 25 SEER and 22 SEER models. After **months of silence**, we filed a **BBB complaint on October 4**. A few days later, another owner called (October 7) and offered a **10-year coverage plan** and **5-year maintenance**, but **no refund**. We followed up again by phone and text but have received **no response or reimbursement** as of today. Unfortunately, this experience has left us deeply disappointed. What began as a straightforward Costco-referred purchase turned into what feels like a **bait-and-switch situation**--promising one high-efficiency system and delivering another. We trusted both **Costco** and **General Air** to act professionally, but the lack of communication, documentation, and accountability speaks otherwise. General air provided us with a new furnace, coil, ducting and installation. They were on time, provided information. Very professional. However the installation did not pass inspection. I waited a month before calling to get a status. They scheduled right away and resealed the ducting with each vent. Tim Done was very knowledgeable and provided me with lots of information about our current equipment. We await the final inspection but I am satisfied with their service. read more

This company did a major irrigation system repair and struggled to get it done to the extent that they had to re-excavate and repair leaks four times because of various mistakes. It started leaking again two weeks later and the resulting work is sloppy and looks terrible. No accountability or interest in redoing it but lot's of excuses. Not competent- try a different company for plumbing. read more

BUYER BEWARE: Stay away from General Air Condition & Plumbing! This company installed a new AC for us 4 years ago and this summer, it stopped cooling properly. Granted, we were not good about following up with our regular yearly maintenance, so we figured that was on us. We called the company to check out the problem, and the technician said he would need to replace a coil among other things like install a compressor saver and condensor surge protector. He quoted the total repair at more than $5,000--covering parts and labor. As expensive as it was, we figured it would be best to go with the company that installed the AC (albeit at an extremely expensive price). The first phase of the repair (cleaning, compressor/surge protector installation/refrigerant replacement) was nearly $2000. When we looked at the billing statement, we found the exorbitant costs come from the labor. Similar to what other reviewers have posted, my husband observed the technician and something that looked like a quick battery replacement cost nearly $700 on the invoice! The technician said the company would have to order a replacement coil so we needed to schedule a time for him to come back. We do not live in the area (this is our vacation home) so we had to adjust our summer schedule to return. The company said they would give us a call once the new coil arrived so we could replace it as soon as possible. Time goes by and the company did not call. I had to follow up multiple times to check on the coil's arrival so that we could schedule the installation. We returned to the desert specifically for the installation appointment, changing our 4th of July plans to accommodate this. Appointment day comes and the representative calls to tell us that the technician had heat sickness so they would have to reschedule for another week. They said they had no other technicians available and did not go out of their way to find a solution even though we changed out plans for this. They sent someone to add more refrigerant to tide us over. So, we rescheduled for a week and a half later, changing our summer travel plans yet again. Appointment day comes right before the technician was supposed to arrive, the company calls. The technician discovered that the replacement coil, which had arrived weeks ago at this point, was damaged. No one had bothered to check the condition of the coil when it was delivered. They would have to reschedule again. This part of the repair was supposed to cost and additional $3500. I was so frustrated by the terrible customer service and asked if they could provide a discount since the delay was their fault both times. The rep said she would check and call me back but next day, nothing. I had to call and follow up myself, only to find out that they could not discount the repair. I called around to other companies in the area and during this process I learned from the others that General Air Conditioning & Plumbing is notorious for upcharging everything because their technicians work on commission. Out of my frustration I paid for another check-up of our system with a company recommended by a neighbor, HH Air Conditioning. This new technician was scratching his head saying he noticed nothing wrong/no leaks with the coil, so they recommended waiting a few weeks to see if a leak would manifest (versus going all out and doing a full replacement). Their rep was so diligent about calling and emailing me back with potential pricing if we indeed would need a new coil--and those prices were so much lower than General A.C. & Plumbing. We are currently waiting to see what happens, but I really appreciate the new company's more considerate and conservative approach. read more

Our AC died at the same time that General's plumber was fixing our water pressure. I know...the joys of owning an older house! I jumped on the phone, and Carlos Milan from General was at the house within hours to see if he could fix our nearly 20-yr-old unit. The prognosis was not good, but he was able to find all of the parts we needed in stock and arrange for an installation crew to come out the next day. Alejandro Hernandez and Mauricio Torres came early the next morning and spent the day breaking down the old system and installing the new. Within 24 hours, we had a new AC and heating system running. In the middle of a desert July, I really appreciated their speed and care. I might have been able to shop around for a slightly better price, but the combination of speed and willingness to solve our problem made the cost worthwhile. read more

As a 69-year-old woman, I trusted General Air Conditioning & Plumbing to do the right thing -- instead, I was taken advantage of and overcharged $1,400 for a job that wasn't even done properly. The technician claimed to have fixed burnt cables but also kept pushing me to replace my entire AC unit because it was "old." I said no -- just fix the cables. He claimed he did. But the unit still wasn't cooling. It was a Sunday, so I contacted another technician that my son knows. He came out, immediately noticed the vents were extremely dirty, and discovered the unit was frozen over with ice -- both major issues that the first technician completely missed. The second technician cleaned the system and got it working again. When I contacted General Air Conditioning & Plumbing to complain and ask for a refund -- and my invoice -- the manager said the technician charged $1,400 for "multiple things." Yet to this day, weeks later, they still haven't sent me an invoice, despite me asking the manager personally multiple times. I even sent him photos showing the frozen unit and filthy vents that his technician ignored. The manager never apologized, never took responsibility, and instead just offered to "come and check" the technician's work -- then canceled or rescheduled twice. He also claimed he already sent me the invoice (he didn't), and then promised to text it "again" -- but never followed through. General Air Conditioning & Plumbing has shown zero accountability, poor customer service, and absolutely no respect for their customers. If you value honest work and transparency, go somewhere else. read more

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM! We had been customers for years using their auto-schedule maintenance package, so when it finally came time to replace our HVAC, we requested a quote/suggestion from them. The salesperson came out and spent a long time with us discussing our needs and budget and surveyed the house. Then nothing. Completely fell off the face of the earth. We let it slide, because in the end, we decided that it might not be the right time after all for such a major investment. 6 months later, we decided to check-in and start the conversation again. We got a lot of "so sorry" and an appointment was made to what I thought would resume where we left off. NOPE. We had to start the WHOLE conversation again! We finally agreed on a system (was so excited to get mini-splits for each room) and an instillation date was set. The morning of the install, they did not have all pieces needed. But PLOT TWIST...it didn't matter because the system that we had approved wouldn't work in our house. Excuse me?! What did we spend 2 hours ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS talking about with the salesperson?!! So maybe understandably I was upset? BUT THEN they tried to sell me on a different system right on the spot! I have 4 installation guys and our salesperson wanting me to make a $44K decision (of which I had previously taken months to research) right then so that they can get to work and also not lose a sale. I was being told that the ceiling mini-splits that I was purchasing would not work in my attic space, even though the salesperson had been to our house TWICE to assess the situation. I would need to revert to a traditional system. "Absolutely not," I said. I was not going to be pressured into not just getting a different system but a different KIND of system. This was bait and switch! So they called the "owner" who then came out, and after much deliberation and compensation, we were advised of a new system that would allow us the luxury of each room having its own thermostat while only needing 1 unit that can be located in the attic, giving us some much needed reclaimed closet space. The day of the new install, there were still pieces missing but was told that it shouldn't hold up anything because there was still work that needed to be done beforehand. On the day of sign-off of completion, we discovered they had totally missed a room! When that was fixed, the final piece was someone showing us how to use our new system. They couldn't. Come to find out, this is the first time they had ever installed this type of unit in a house. It is designed for office buildings. SMH They promised to return when they could show us more in-depth instructions. 3 more visits later, and I STILL don't know how completely to use it. And even if I could, it has not ability to connect via an app nor the internet so there is no way to control it but at the source, at home. There is no way to set timers because the special settings are locked and we were not given the code. After completion (and as part of our compensation) they had someone come out to do "finish work." AWFUL They didn't remove faceplates and just plastered right over them. LMAO All of that should have warranted a review, but here we are a year later and THIS is what finally prompted me. We resolutely started searching the web for videos on how to use our system because we want to put rooms on schedules of when to lower or raise the temp (morning vs evening kind of thing). We cannot get into the settings, because there is a special lock patter you have to draw and we were never given it!! Save yourself some heat and go elsewhere. read more
