Our a/c died and much needed to be accomplished in a short amount of time to get us back up and cooled down in Palm Desert's summer heat (100+ degrees). Everyone was very professional yet very personable - we could not be happier with each General Team Member. The Install Team's experience shined in removing our old system, and installing a new system all in one day - hard working and dedicated to answering all of our questions, and executing on everything we had agreed to with Jake S. The system (Lennox - 4 ton condenser unit, furnace / air handler / coils / wifi thermostat) is working great so far (day 1); also includes (1) new supply line, (1) enlarged existing supply line, and (1) new return line all installed in one day. The system design is working out really well as developed by Jake S. after interacting with our needs. The pricing was competitive, and Jake S. made sure we had every opportunity in making the purchase transaction as straight-forward as possible, and Jake S. went beyond to make the entire transaction to our satisfaction. Thanks to The General Team for a great system, and a great experience under short notice timeline. I believe The General's business model (continuous improvement) and resources being re-employed back into their employees is paying dividends to its Customers. We came to the realization ourselves that we need a completely new air conditioning system (20+ years old) and got a couple quotes before looking into A/C's through Costco who recommends and works with General Air Conditioning. Brian P, a Comfort Specialist, came out, arriving on time, and completed a heat load calculation of our home which included measuring the entire house. He made recommendations and explained General Air's customer commitments and standards. He provided us a quote and his contact information and didn't pressure us at all which I appreciated. Fast forward to a week and although not the cheapest option I decided to go with General Air. They're by far the most legitimate company who gave me a quote and didn't say anything shady like the other guys did, like, " we only need to get a permit if you want to " which I know is wrong. Brian explained that their price included everything including a permit, duct testing, new breaker, new power disconnect at the condenser unit, etc, etc, etc. They go by the book which I appreciate. We signed necessary forms and scheduled installation for the following Monday due to my schedule. Brian assured me that they could install it at any time though should our old unit fail because I was worried it might. I contacted Brian to see if install could be moved to Saturday instead because of my worries and they made that happen no problem. Technicians James and Rob arrived just before 8AM Saturday morning. These two guys know what's what with A/C and quickly got to work. They were polite, courteous, and were sure to let me know that they would be happy to explain anything I wanted to know about the equipment, process, etc. They finished within the promised time frame and triple checked their work. They left the areas they worked in cleaner that they were when they arrived. My hat is off to these guys as well as Brian. Brian also showed up during the install to bring James and Rob Gatorade and water in the 110 degree heat and high humidity of today. I appreciated the fact that they take care of each other. I chose General mostly because of the positive reviews on Yelp. Like many people, I am incompetent when it comes to the technical aspects of heating and cooling systems. So, public relations and building trust is imperative. General Air clearly understands that. Ironically, I had contacted General for a system check on the 16 year old central system in the house I bought 6 months ago. I had to cancel that appointment due to a schedule conflict. The very same day, the unit died when it was 104F outside. The house heated to 92F quickly. Just as quickly, General responded to my call and we found the entire central unit encased in ice. My central A/C was dead and even I could clearly see that. Ivan and David stayed until 10:30 pm that night examining the system and reviewing options with me. They presented me with information that made clear what I was looking at. By evening's end, I purchased a new system, largely due to the level of knowledge Ivan and David were operating from. But more importantly because I trusted them completely. They set the tone for my entire experience. The next day a crane appeared and my new system was installed. I did not believe it would be operable, but by 11 p.m. it was. Again, General (Juan and another man whose name I don't k know) stayed until 11 p.m. to get the job done and they did. I went to bed with a new system cooling down the house efficiently and effectively. Today Juan and Gabral came and finished all the tweeking that needed to be done to maximize my new central A/C. I am amazed at the consistent knowledge base and stellar customer relations by everyone who has worked on my new system. This is a company who has mastered the importance of building trust with the public and the value of solid customer relations, from the folks who answer the phone and schedule appointments to the folks who put it all together. Our air conditioning stopped working in the middle of a very hot day (110F+). Temperature in the house rose to almost 100F. At 7PM I saw the familiar General Air Conditioning TV ad and saw customer service was available until 7PM. I quickly grabbed the phone and gave them a call. Customer service quickly answered the call, were very helpful and made arrangements for a technician to be at home at 9AM the following morning and if they could would try to come earlier. We were thankful that they were coming the following morning. 10:30PM and my phone rings. It's General Air Conditioning and they could have a technician at the house if we were available. 5 minutes later Ivan the technician was at our door! At 10:30PM! Ivan was very courteous, professional and explained every step of the diagnosis to find the problem. Fortunately it was just fuses and he replaced them very quickly. He checked out all the other components of the air conditioning unit and found everything else was OK considering the unit was 15 years old. Absolutely no pressure to have any other unnecessary repairs,replacement, etc. Ivan was done my 11:30PM and he was off to another service call! He had worked until 1:30AM the night before stating General technicians would continue to make service calls into the wee hours as long as there customers requesting there service. The whole experience has made us General Air Conditioning customers for life. It is very rare to encounter a company with such professionalism and helpfulness. There are a lot of companies out there that could learn a lot from 'The General". Many thanks to Ivan and The general's customer service staff. I wish there more than 5 stars for the top rating. My first experience with General Air Conditioning was in Sept 2011 when one of my two existing air conditioning units blew and I walked into an 82 degree great room. Of course it was a Sunday. I had no idea who to call but always saw the General TV ads so that is who I called. I was very impressed that within 30 minutes someone was at my house and gave us the fatal diagnosis. We decided to replace both our air conditioners/furnaces with high end Lennox system. By Tuesday 5pm everything had been removed and replaced. It was a difficult install because the furnaces are in the attic and when we built our house the walls and attic accesses were built after the furnaces were installed. The new furnaces were bigger than the attic accesses. The installers were amazing in how they were able to hoist those big units up there and after a few days of the installation had carpenters come out to repair the attic accesses and make them like new at no cost to me. I continue to rely on the General to maintain, inspect, clean and replace my filters. They are always on time. Every technician who comes here is courteous and knowledgeable and never seems to be in a hurry. I did have a problem with the coils leaking on both units and General came out, replaced the coils, got the system up and running with absolutely no charge to me even though my labor warranty had expired. Because of that I will continue to use this company for all my heating and air conditioning needs. I am so grateful to have made that initial call to them when my unit went out. I made a previous review of this company in 2015 and yesterday's experience was equally awesome!! Sometime; in the wee hours of Friday morning, I woke up sweaty. The A/C on the bedroom side of the house was not working....OH GREAT and just when the hottest day of the year was predicted to arrive that day (Murphy's Law!!!). I remembered my previous great experience with The General and went on-line, before their opening hours and filled out a service request. Was called a short time later (before hours) and was greeted by a very cheerful young lady, who took down all my information and informed me she could have a tech out, late in the afternoon. Great!! Michael arrived around 5PM. We went over the details of the issue and he immediately went to work, troubleshooting the problem. I went outside, about 15 minutes later to see his progress. He showed me the bad "run" capacitor and the replacement parts, he was getting ready to install. A few minutes later, the unit was discharging cold air again...WOOHOO!! He completed his work and was on his way about an hour later, after cleaning and testing both units. I was very impressed, because I was sure the compressor had to be replaced. He could have easily charged me for the most expensive part. I really appreciate honesty and will use The General again and again, as long as they employ such young people with integrity!! Wow--I wish I read some of these reviews before continuing service with The General. Would have saved me $1000s. Last summer, I asked the General (we were under a service contract from previous owner) to inspect air conditioner because it wasn't cooling part of the house. These were essentially newer units installed by The General approximately 4 years ago. Net--after dye testing and new refrigerant and a $1500 bill, the unit again didn't work this past weekend. After a new test (new story "we don't do dye tests anymore because they really don't work), and another $500 for an isolation test, they said the line set needed to be replaced (leaking) at a price of $2850. After complaining that I had just spend $1500 on essentially the same problem, sales rep said he would "see what he could do" and would call me back. No call back. No reduced pricing. And air conditioner screws on the ground along with spare parts and old insulation. All left on the ground for me to pick up. This wake-up call prompted me to call another vendor based on a recommendation. Price was 1/3 the price and he said "I see this all the time from The General customers. The tech's are given a bonus for all up-sells." Stay away if you want to get fair service at a fair price. Stick with The General if you want to get ripped off every time they stop by. And don't pay for the annual service contract--this is an excellent way you to pay for your own up-sell. read more

A salute to the General! When our a/c unit's condensation pipeline backed up on Saturday, flooding two closets, we alerted our homeowner's warranty company and were assigned to a repair contractor, Quality Mechanical Professionals, Inc. After reading reviews on Yelp, however, we learned that we could be waiting for days or even weeks before getting any satisfaction from QMPI (as of this writing two days later, QMPI still has not responded to any calls). Because we live in Palm Springs in 100-degree-plus summer temps, going for days without a/c is not an option. Luckily, a neighbor recommended "the General," so we bit the bullet and called on Sunday. Within half-an-hour, Christian G. was at our door, ready to complete the job. Chris was competent, courteous, and communicative - everything one hopes for but doesn't always get in a technician. As a woman, I especially appreciated that Chris didn't patronize or ignore me; instead, he clearly explained what he was going to do and why, did it, and left everything cleaner than when he'd arrived. Most importantly, Chris and the General solved our problem quickly and efficiently, for a reasonable cost with no additional weekend, emergency, or "surprise" charges. We liked Chris and General Air Conditioning so much, we signed up for their regular maintenance program. read more

When your AC goes out at 10 o'clock at night in the middle of a Coachella Valley summer heat wave, that usually means load up the family and run to the nearest hotel. The outdoor temperatures were still sweltering at 113+ - and our thermostat inside was baking at 91 when we called "The General." We were told a tech was in the area and would be dispatched shortly. In less time than it takes to get a pizza, a technician was knocking at our front door. Even at that hour, Matt Kinnison arrived in a starched shirt and crisp uniform, and after a firm handshake and verbal assessment, he went to work. Within minutes, Matt professionally communicated the problem, with purpose and exceptional clarity. He explained the unit with remarkable knowledge. He asked questions about its performance history that only an expert would know to ask. As the repair unfolded, we were surprised to see how effortlessly he attacked and solved the problem, especially when he concluded the remedy with a midnight welding job. Two hours later, the temperature in our house - and my blood pressure - had both returned to normal. As he was leaving, we discovered this impressive young man is also a former Marine. General Air Conditioning and Plumbing are excellent! I am not the type to write reviews; however, this company really treated us like family. The ladies that answer the phone and schedule the technicians were amazing and compassionate. Specifically Marissa and Maria. We were having issues with a third party company that were "supposedly" the only company in the valley that can come out to detect the leak at our home, and they were refusing to come out. However, General Air Conditioning and Plumbing continued to advocate for us and help us solve our major water leak issue. We had no water for 4 days. Our plumber that was assigned to us was Tony. Tony is 10/10!!! He was professional, compassionate, knowledgeable, and super friendly! We could not thank Tony enough for all his hard work especially in this desert heat! Words and the food that we bought him is not enough to express our appreciation. This was the first time we used General for plumbing issues, but we have used them for A/C maintenance and repair and have always had a good experience. Awesome job General! Thank God I called the General. My AC went down in 114 degree weather. I didn't know who to call so I opened the yellow pages and made a appt with a competitor. The competitor didn't show up in the agreed 2 hour time slot and left me and my wife with 3 dogs to boil alive in my house. I remembered the General TV commercials so call them and booked the soonest avail appt. The other competitor finally showed up and the tech was the rudest person who didn't even apologize for being 2 hours late. He looked at our AC unit and immediately said it needed to be replaced and would cost 4,000.00. Being desperate I was going to put on a credit card as a emergency but left my card at my office. He didn't believe me that I didn't have a check to write him either. Anyway I was going to call him the next day with the card #. Steven G from the General showed up after the competitor left and after checking my AC unit fixed my unit for 585.00 saving me and my family 3,415.00! Steven G was friendly, professional and Honest! This other company was going to rip me off if not for Steven G. Thank you Steven G and the General. Don't call anyone else for repairs if you don't want to be a victim of a scam. I called for a plumber to come out due to a leak in my main line. While the person answering the phone had a problem finding my account she was polite, helpful and stayed with me without getting flustered until she found the right account. They were able to get someone out that night! Zack took a look and figured out what he had to do. He quoted me a price and I look at him "are you kidding?" I thought it was a bit high and he didn't have the parts on the truck. So, you're probably thinking this is a bad review - just the opposite! Zack came back the next day after assuring me the leak would not get worse and he was right. He started working on the piping completely re-working the shut off, moving the pipes a little bit away from the gas meter (which made it impossible to work on the pipes), replaced the shutoff to the irrigation system, installed a new pressure regulator and created a work of sculptural art! His time and efforts figuring out just how to tie everything in, cutting and soldering everything back together, and, in the end, I not only had a better system installed, all new components, and better water pressure inside, but also a GREAT VALUE! Something's changed... Boots one the ground are exceptional and that's never changed, but admin and operations sure has over the past two years. We felt compelled to update our review to reflect our current "opinion". We've spent a lot of money over the years to buy the best and maintain it to tip top condition at all times, but persistent automated calls, requests to have those stop, and we've always been told we are an elite gold standard customer, or something of the sort. But when a technician comes out for once service we've asked for, but arrives to do something different on more than one occasion, that's not making a customer feel valued. Also, in regards to the front of the line we were led to believe, that didn't happen for a recent repair. We were left "hanging" for several days until I finally called. We don't like feeling uncertainty. It pains us to say this about a company we've invested so much in, but that's why I'm here to be factually accurate. We hope this isn't the norm and we hope we feel the same way we use to at some point and time. We truly wish this entire company the best. We haven't completely given up on them, but their actions will dictate that. I've said enough... read more

Tracy, in customer service, started my journey for help for my non-cooling AC system. I am pretty savvy in the HVAC field having spent 15 years in the field. In talking with Tracy, I was convinced I had found the HVAC company I could deal with. She sent Tyler to service my equipment and survey the problem. This young man is top notch! Knows his profession and is courteous and through. I decided a new system was in order. Within an hour of my request for information, I was visited by Comfort Advisor Anne. She worked with me to get the best possible heating & air conditioning system for my home that would be efficient and a top industry brand. I can even set my thermostat via WiFi! The installation crew, Julio & Rob, worked in 106 degree temperatures to get my equipment install completed and running before leaving the property. They were very organized, professional & made a very clean install of the entire system. I could not of requested a better representation of this company. Angel Cardozo of general air conditioning is the most professional, knowledgable, hard working person I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with in the Air Conditioning field. We left La Quinta today(117 outside) for a business meeting and left the AC on at 75. Came home at 10:30PM tonight and it was 98 inside the house. I have a 6 year old daughter and. 3 year old that were absolutely miserable and crying. Called the General and couldn't believe someone answered at 10:40 PM on a Saturday night. Not only did they answer, but sent Angel out (was here in 20 minutes) and diagnosed/fixed the problem on the spot. It took him an hour to replace the needed parts (1984 AC unit) that he actually had on him.
