Two of their others plumbers Dario and Julian came out to make the repairs but that did not solve the problem. I called back to let them know that it was still not working and received a call from Phil within an hour to address the repair issue. Phil said he would order another part and would have someone out to replace at no charge for the part or the visit. Unfortunately the steam unit still did not work correctly. Phil said he talked with Mr Steam and the company sent a number of parts to repair the unit. Unfortunately the new parts did not solve the problem. I then thought about getting a new replacement unit, but Phil said he had some other ideas and would send his technical supervisor Sean out. After Sean's visit the and a followup visit, the steam shower was working like new. It was discovered later that Mr Steam had sent a new updated part that was not compatible with my unit and caused so many of the miss diagnosis. Throughout all this frustrating time Phil remained positive and used all of his resources and knowledge to fix the situation. During one of our many conversation he said, "We will stick with it until fully resolved", and he did. Yes it was a frustrating situation, but Phil and his crew were patient, courtesy, and positive throughout the process.

You can see from the photos below that Gregory did a beautiful professional job on my project, working with the architect/designer who had suggested the built-ins, and responding to my particular requests. Fitting new cabinetry into an old wooden building required a lot of customization during installation, and Gregory was definitely up to the task - as mentioned by other reviewers he is easy to work with, creative, flexible, with an "incredible eye." He did all the installation and finishing himself (with a helper). To be fair, it took Gregory longer than he had estimated to make and install the cabinetry, but it was definitely worth the wait and he was very responsive and obliging throughout the process. The quality and value were top notch; the cost was about 50-60% that of the estimates I received from online cabinetry firms I contacted. Definitely a 5 star experience - thank you Gregory!

It was not an easy thing to install either with the angles of the apartment. We could could tell it required a lot of skill and patience. We cannot imagine our space without them now. The bookcases on each side of the center chest piece was his idea too and it was such a clever use of space and it looks great. Truly, we cannot recommend him enough for his skill, taste, and he's really just the nicest guy. If we could get ten stars we would!! And his partner is awesome. They are the greatest team.

During planning, I spoke to a number of other contractors who wanted to use retrofit windows and just leave the siding in place. Alan took the time to explain the proper way that the building wrap, siding and windows had to interface to get waterproofing, and how we were better off replacing all three if we wanted to be sure we'd fix our problem. Even with this extra scope, Alan's pricing was very fair. Thank god we went with Alan. When they removed the existing siding, they found severe water damage underneath the siding and a subpar earlier repair job. When this surprise came up, Alan talked us through the damage and gave us our options. They ended up ripping up two layers of existing siding, cutting out damaged building sheathing and replacing it with new plywood, before proceeding with the job. The overrun costs were very reasonable and we never felt like Alan was taking advantage of us. The end result was great quality at a fair price, and peace of mind that our issues have been resolved and we won't have to worry about the front / roof for a long time now. I would definitely hire Alan again and would recommend him to anyone looking for this kind of work.

I heard from another customer that while the other branches are easier to park at, this store has the biggest showroom. It's not fancy but if you know what you're looking for, it's a great place to get EVERYTHING related to electrical supplies.

I was in desperate need of a general contractor to complete what should have been a simple addition of a half bathroom. After several false starts and many roadblocks, this project became an overwhelming and frustrating ordeal. I turned to Yelp to find a referral, saw the many favorable reviews for Yevgeny and was very happy for the quick response after not hearing from any of the others I had contacted. He turned out to be a god send - someone who could guide me through the byzantine bureaucracy of the permit process to a successful conclusion. Furthermore, with Yevgeny you get a man of many hats - electrical, plumbing and mechanical expertise all in one. He installed and upgraded our old fuse box to a new electrical subpanel/circuit breaker, new wiring for various lighting in our garage, exterior entrances and bathroom. An exhaust fan was required for the bathroom, with the related venting to the roof, which he also installed - an added bonus of not having to hire someone else to do the mechanical work. We breezed through the inspections, with the last inspector being very impressed with what was done. As a new homeowner even I could see the excellence of his work - from the quality of the workmanship, materials, and installation design. He is meticulous, conscientious, has high standards and takes great pride in his work. Aside from the expertise and competency of his workmanship, he also focuses on providing great customer service as well. His mantra is "to make sure you feel comfortable" in every aspect of his endeavors. He demonstrated much compassion for our situation, due to the constraints of our finances. He allowed a flexible payment schedule and even gave us discounts on labor. He was extremely patient, taking the time to explain in detail his methods, rationale, product specifications and basic building construction; diligently answering my stupid questions with equanimity. When options were out of our budget range, he offered suggestions for the alternative scenarios with the objective of "I am here to save you time and money." He has the vision and perspective that allows him to see the big picture, anticipating the effects of changes for future needs. Hopefully the above is an accurate portrayal of our experience with Yevgeny. He more than met our expectations with his superior workmanship and customer service. He is a man of integrity, faith, compassion and generosity. I bought an old house in San Francisco last October and needed a bunch of renovation work done. I spoke to a couple of General Contractors about redoing the kitchen and several other projects but ended up deciding to coordinate all of the work myself to be able to get the project started asap and to save on costs. I ended up getting great referrals on almost everything: handyman, hardwood floor guy, painter, etc. but finding a good plumber was a leap of faith. There were a bunch of options out there but I ended up reading the Yelp reviews, which led me to General SF. Yevgeny came out and was fantastic. Very professional and gave me honest quotes on what things would cost. What stood out the most was how genuinely dedicated he is to work being done right. He was at my house to work on some plumbing and gas line issues but gave me some great tips on a couple of things he noticed around the house, including some structural issues with a deck. You might think "oh, he's just padding his bill", but I already had a guy building the deck (Yevgeny spent a good amount of time making suggestions to improve the structural soundness) and after 2 hours of talking through the unrelated work, he gave me the bill for the work he was hired to do-- exactly what he quoted, no padding whatsoever. It helps that he's a licensed GC because he keeps the big picture in mind and knows how homes are built-- that can be a big plus in San Francisco where the houses are so old and some of the construction a bit strange. I've texted Yevgeny to pick his brain on occasion after the work he did at my house and he was more than happy to write back. Again, quality service and quality character. I even ran into him at Home Depot and he asked me what I was working on and gave me some great tips on what he'd do and which products (e.g. paint, brushes) worked best. That was 20 minutes that he spent with me just because he likes to be helpful. Can't say enough good things about him. House is finished now and am confident the plumbing/gas work is solid. I usually don't write Yelp reviews but had to make an exception in this case because this is how I found Yevgeny and wanted to let everyone know that the reviews are right. This is the first review I am posting on Yelp, but I could not pass sharing what an incredible and rare experience it was to deal with a professional like Yevgeny. In a nutshell, after reading his outstanding reviews on Yelp, I called Yevgeny to get a second opinion/estimate on a leaking shower that I was told needed to be completely redone. A few days later, Yevgeny came twice and spent a total of about 3 1/2 hours not just to review the plumbing problem but also providing me with an invaluable and thorough review of various weatherproofing and electrical problems he noticed in the house. And he did not want to charge me for this! Throughout this process, I just did not find an amazingly thorough and knowledgeable professional, but also an honest, considerate man who truly cares about helping people and wanting to solve problems in the most efficient manner for the long run. Let me give you some specific examples: - He is considerate. He answers his phone and returns calls. He is flexible and accommodating coming once at 7pm on a weekday and once on a Sunday. He even brought a tarp and cloth to protect the floor and furniture downstairs when testing the shower. - He is an analytical problem solver, looking for the true cause of the problem. When he found some water damage in the walls, you could literally see him thinking through the process, looking here and there, connecting the dots. He was relentless until he got to the source. - He has a passion for his trade and a job well done. He was upset to find out several mistakes done by several contractors that caused water damage in the home (poor window installation and a stucco patch that is no stucco...) He also explained how the new electrical system did not have enough circuit breakers for this home to be remodeled. - He is honest: He recommended that I kept using the shower for a few days to more accurately determine the cause of the leak, to avoid doing unnecessary repairs. I have a lot of things to repair besides a leaking shower (which I knew), but at least I have found a contractor I can trust. And that is golden! Thank you, Yevgeny. read more

One of my tenants broke the water line and the water was gathering all over the garage and flooding all over the place. I was looking for the plumber, but everybody was busy. Then I found the GeneralSF. Yevgeny told me to make a few pictures and send him through the phone. I did it. After asking a few questions he recommended to close up the main water valve. I had no idea where it was located. Then he needed more pictures from me in order to advise me. I was a little bit stressed out because I had no idea where to turn off the water, so he guided me through each step where to find it and I was able to close the water. One thing that impressed me most was his calm professionalism. He even came over to talk to my tenant because I was not available and gave me an estimate what it would cost to fix it. He also suggested to improve few things to make it safe and I was very glad to hear it. He moved the pipe away and improved the location so it would be safe. The craftsmanship was excellent. It is easy for a contractor to say that they will do everything to the same standard that they would do in their own home, but Yevgeny absolutely lives up to the claim. He is a perfectionist, and his attention to detail is incredible. My wife and I bought a house in San Mateo that needed a fair amount of work. We hired Yevgeny to upgrade the electrical service and do a complete rewiring. The job that he did speaks for itself. He was meticulous about the placement of every single outlet, switch, and fixture. He performed the work above and beyond the standards of the local code, emphasizing safety and convenience along the way. The city inspector was as impressed with his work as we were. Not only did he do a phenomenal job with the work that we hired him to do, but he was also very generous with sharing his knowledge and advice on other parts of our project. Simultaneous to the rewiring, we were redoing our kitchen, fixing a broken chimney, and various other odds and ends around the house. I phoned Yevgeny about 5 pm one day, seeking a quote for a minor plumbing modification in my home. My aim was to find a time when he could stop by for an hour, assess the situation and my request, and give me an estimate. Instead he asked me to text him some photos. Ten minutes later he phoned me back and we agreed on a price that was well below that of other providers. He then asked me when he could stop by *that evening* to execute the work. By 10 pm the job was done. I watched Yevgeny work and he explained every step. He's a perfectionist about the stuff you can see, and perhaps more importantly, also about the stuff you can't. When repositioning a pipe that had previously been installed by someone else, he carefully cut away a small burr on its inner surface, explaining that he wanted to be sure there wasn't anything inside that could snag debris. And when using his plumber's level to make some final adjustments, he showed me how to read it to ensure that the system had the required 1/4" descent for every foot of length. As he departed Yevgeny told me he is also a licensed electrician. As it happens I now need some electrical work done. I will be calling him shortly. read more

We had a plumbing disaster which spiraled into a bunch of different jobs, one of which was figuring out a way to create a separate line for the water going into the fridge so it could be turned off independently from the sink line, to which it had been previously connected. In my initial phone contact with him, Yevgeny asked for a couple photos of the problem areas, and responded with some options of various parts which would do the job and their prices, giving me the option...by now it was late Friday, and a time when many plumbers would say "It'll have to wait til tomorrow", but Yevgeny said "I'll be there in 15 minutes"...and he was! He was quick, tidy, and efficient, and took time to explain some of the plumbing mysteries that had been baffling me since the initial leak/disaster occurred...and all at a reasonable price. Yevgeny is the MAN. I had to replace an oven and the gas line behind my old oven needed to be cut and reduced to fit the new unit. Yevgeny came within an hour and was done in an hour. He gave me the ins and outs of how everything worked, so I felt educated and comfortable with the process. Moreover, he was extremely friendly and accommodating - when I told him I had kids, he made sure everything was set up so I could still use my old oven, but prepped all the fittings (taped each one) for when the new oven would be installed. (Not that he wouldn't do this, but his empathy was appreciated.) If you're in SF and need a plumber -- Yevgeny is the "guy." I can't emphasize this enough. Total pro with highly competitive rates. My refrigerator was out of power and needed an electrician. I called a couple of electricians and waited for 3 days and no one answered my calls. On the 3rd day, I started calling more electricians and got a hold of Yevgeny at General SF. He responded my call right away. I explained to him my electrical problem. He said he did not have to come over to my resident and we can just do it over the phone. I e-mailed him the screen shots of my electrical outlet and electrical box. I am very pleased with the services provided by generalSF. Our heating system was very old and was not providing enough heat during winter. In a very short time (one week) generalSF replaced our old heating system with the new one. He put the new ducking system instead of an old one, the new furnace, removed the old one and installed the new hardwood floor. It was a unique job since our house is an old one and has limited space, so he did a good job saving us bunch of space downstairs. Talk about doing what it takes to make you happy. Yevgeny is not a man of nonsense. He explains the problem very clearly to you and within a short amount of time, is on the job. I live in a house of mid-twenty year olds; we're not too savvy with this stuff. but Yevgeny is extremely patient and accommodating. General SF came out to our house on a late Sunday afternoon after first recommending a couple of items over the phone to check to make sure an in-person service call was needed. We checked a few things over the phone and still needed to have the system looked at. Yevgeny came to our house and assessed the problem at the electrical panel and quickly determined that the partial electrical power outage we were experiencing was a PG&E issue. Yevgeny replaced our dishwasher. It was a drawn out process because we had a home warranty company and they had to be consulted about what they would approve. He noticed several things that were wrong with our plumbing and couldn't just install the dishwasher, because it was hard wired in, which is against the code. He gave me different estimates for different possible jobs associated with the plumbing situation. I found out what the company would pay, and he did as much as he could using that amount. Yevgeny is incredibly helpful, honest and knowledgeable. Our friends tripped our breaker while we were out of town. When we returned, resetting it wouldn't do the trick. We called a few places that wanted to charge upwards of $249/hour. Not the best return from vacation. I called Yevgeny, sent a few photos of our circuit board, and he walked me through the process to reset everything. He also talked me for 15 minutes, giving tons of tips and tricks with our current wiring and layout. Will call him again for all of our future electrician and plumber needs. read more

I can't say enough about how great Yevgeni is. He removed our old water heater and installed a new one the same day. He came in the afternoon when he finished on another project, and stayed until almost midnight because he didn't want my wife and 2 year old son to wake up to cold water. My father and stepfather are contractors, so I'm not a total rube when it comes to how long things should take and how much they should cost and Yevgeni seriously sets a new standard in every category. Very knowledgeable, helpful, and very thorough. I called regarding an electrical problem in the kitchen and he was able to diagnose and solve it over the phone. We have GFCI outlets that seemed to trip and stop working completely while our circuit breakers seemed to be fully on - and the kitchen breaker was cycled before we called. His troubleshooting was methodical and this allowed him to recognize what we missed. He was friendly, patient, calm, and explained every step of the process. Would definitely recommend. read more

Yevgeny first help me troubleshoot an electrical issue over the phone; when we couldn't sort it out that way, he came over within 15 minutes to address it in person. He reviewed the electrical panel and quickly determined that the issue was with the power coming into the house (from PG&E). Yevgeny Dobinsky fixed my kitchen sink leak and garbage disposal problem very quickly. He response my phone call and asked me to send him the photo showing the issue. He then came to my home within two hours and explained to me what is the problem. He not only repair the issue but also teach me how to prevent the issue happen again. This is a very good person. He was the very first to respond to our request with an actual estimate --- when I also supplied multiple photos -- while 3 others wanted to first evaluate in person with an additional appointment, and last 1 said they did not actually fix leaking faucets despite that being listed on their business profile. My husband and I asked Michael after his initial very fair estimate if he perhaps could also fix some other issues for us at an additional cost -- a loose house siding board inside our light well, and two loose plumbing bits, a kitchen faucet and a bathroom sink hot water handle. He thought it best to come out for the initial cellar sink fix, and then evaluate the other 3 tasks in person, which seemed very reasonable. He made quick work of the cellar faucet, handily fixing our amateur attempted earlier repair into a straightened and 100% water-tight fix. Then he climbed into our awkward light well, only accessible through a waist-height open window, jacked up a ladder, inspected the siding and determined the loose board was luckily only a cosmetic cover for the original 1905 redwood siding, reattached the loose board and caulked the edges for good measure. Then he promptly fixed our loose kitchen faucet and wobbly bathroom hot water handle. I cannot recommend him enough -- 5 stars all around -- on time, friendly, thorough, gung-ho for awkward work fixes like our light well, and very fair pricing. I almost want more stuff to break in this old house to hire him again. Two definite thumbs up!

We ended up having Aaron do a variety of tasks including installing deadbolts / smart locks on doors that didn't have any bolts before, adding thresholds and sealing all our lower floor doors, installing a towel rack into our shower and fixing weather stripping.
