Watch for the daily specials, Tues-Wed is the chicken breast sandwich which has more meat then you can imagine and is delicious, Thurs is the Millanesa sandwich which is incredible. I stopped by because I was waiting on my car at a nearby body shop. Had never been before and wanted a quick bite. I ordered a steak Milanese grinder and some fries. It was funny because I asked the older gal how much the fries were and she thought I didn't have enough to pay so she gladly said she'd give them to me and that I'd pay her next time. I asked because I wanted to pay cash and I wanted to make sure I had enough. I thanked her and explained the reason I was asking. I ended up buying the whole thing on my card and I tipped her with the cash for her kind gesture. I'm happy to know that there are some people who would much rather pay for the food than see someone go hungry. With that being said the fries were ok. The grinder was worth it. Okay... so this was my first time at Gene's Grinders and I left full!! I ordered the Large Meatball Grinder. Mmmmmm meaty... really packed with meatballs and cheese. They make their own grinder rolls every morning. Yum! There are daily specials, and on Monday it is roast pork. The roast pork is DELICIOUS and is my favorite grinder I've tried so far. Get there early for a special; they might run out. Service can be slow because they usually have only one person taking orders at two windows. To live in Ontario,Ca (Duarte was my hometown where I grew up but, left in the late 80's when my parents spilt up, now I'm 33yrs old and we still come back just for Gene's Specials to drive all the way back to Monrovia just for a few great grinders gotta tell you something, you don't forget where you came from and the best grinders ever (the best family owned shop ever). Genes' is by far the best sub shop we have by a very very long shot! Everything here is awesome from their cut of meat to the bread and everything else! And like Candie S. Mentioned they seriously seem to be annoyed that you're there but it seriously doesn't matter. I have actually tried all of their sandwiches there and they are all very very good. The only ones I don't really care for are the meatball and the tuna. Tuna because I'm just not a huge fan of tuna salad and the meatball, because I really think that meatball subs need a more crusty bread so that is more of a personal preference. The genes special is by far the best cold sandwich it has everything and it's just great but my personal favorite is the spicy chicken. It is breaded chicken but its just really really awesome. Finally their fries are great too though they're just standard diner fries but they definitely are worth the order. I always see the people that get the Lay's and think what a shame. If you're in a hurry or for a lunch rush make sure to phone ahead always phone ahead. The wait is never long but the line can be. Also they close early, like when their bread is all gone early and when its 3pm they're usually gone so again call ahead for your order and you'll be fine. Make sure to stop by here if you or a co-worker ever mentions "subway" I guarantee it will be a whole lot better and for little more if anything than the chain place. Especially after seeing how they make their meats and breads at those "eat fresh" places. read more

Was excited to try this place as I saw pics of my favorite, pastrami sandwiches. I was not impressed & disappointed. I ordered 1 -Gene's special + 1 hot pastrami grinder. Their own 'fresh baked bread' was just like any ol' white french bread, no crunch to the crust, nothing aromatic about it. The 'hot' pastrami was taken out of a box warehouse size bag, microwaved and then just piled onto the bread. Was expecting it to be seared on the grill so the pastrami would get hot and juicy. The pastrami lacked flavor, had too much sinew, it didn't come w/pickles but lettice, tomatoes, cheese. While Gene' grinder was descent w/a variety of meats, I was surprised it was a tad spicy, there were red chili flakes which is not mentioned in menu. Sad to say I prefer Jersey Mikes over this mom + pop shop. read more

"Dad" guy who cooks the food was a bit on the grumpy side. But the "Mom" who took our orders made up for it. That, along with the fantastic food. I got a pastrami dip. Moist, amazing piled high pastrami on top of bread that they baked that day. The special of the day was a pork sandwich, which my girlfriend got. It was better than the pastrami (mostly because you can get good pastrami at any number of other places). The amazing thing was that the pork tasted like pork and wasn't dry at all. Reminded me of really good lechon. Almost forgot about the fries, which are perfectly crunchy on the outside and golden brown. No soggies. Go there. read more

i would have normally not walk in this place but went in because of a buy one get one free promo given to me by signing up on their website. iam very familiar with food chain apps and online promos. i clearly read the promo and it stated that if you order any sub that you would get one of equal or lesser value free. did not state you have to order online. so i went in to redeem my promo and they lady said i had to order it online and argues with me about it for 10 mins. so i didnt want to argue with her anymore and gave in an place tge order online while i was in the dinning area. at that point i can see and hear her talking crap to the employees about me. after 10 minutes we recieved our food. she was still arguing about the promo. the sandwiches were really good. really high in price. if it wasnt for the promo price. iam not sure if they are worth it or not. i got the patrami dip. it was $16.00. i could of got one from the world famous hat for $12.25. also it was very hot inside the small diniing area. honestly this place is nothing out of the ordinary. customer seevice has gone out the window these days. read more

My boyfriend and I came here on a whim one Saturday and were very pleased. The place was low key and chill. I got the salami and he got the Gene's Special and both sandwiches were amazing.
