I've used Greg before and I have always received 5-star service. Most recently I bought an old T-Bird that had a transmission leak(s) and who knows what else. I removed it from the car myself and brought it to Greg who gave me an estimate. Apparently this transmission--Ford Cruise-O-Matic--is old enough so as not to be familiar to many younger mechanics, so Greg said he would do a full evaluation and repair it himself. He did give me an estimate of $600.00. When the job was completed I was very impressed with just how the transmission looked. The iron part of the housing had been painted with a tough finish to make it look like new cast iron (it was very rusty before). The aluminum parts of the housing appeared to have been bead blasted. Great! And the formerly rusty torque converter had been painted, as well as the pan. More important he showed me the broken reverse gear servo that he had replaced and the broken bolt that was supposed to hold the servo into the cast iron portion of the housing. We discussed the do's and don'ts of how to prevent this type of damage in the future. Of course all the seals and gaskets were replaced. Bottom line: the total cost for the repair came in at less than the original estimate and the repaired tranny now operates perfectly since I installed it into the car again. No way I can give anything less than five stars for this shop. I called Greg after another shop test drove my 2015 Honda Civic LX and recommended Gene's T & M, as well as a licensed mobile mechanic. I called Gene's right after that test drive and Greg told me what the problem might be solely based on my description over the phone. After leaving my car sit for a few days, had AAA tow it to Gene's as per my appointment. Greg got on his diagnostic way earlier than my appointment time. Hardly 1.5 hours later, Greg called me and told me my car was fixed. The price was reasonable and the car drives like a top now. Took my 1984 monte carlo SS in for a transmission rebuild, took about 1week to finish the work(parts had to be ordered) all adjustments were completed and road tested, when I drove it, noticed how crisp and smooth the shifting was(they said they put a shift kit in on all there rebuilds), I'm happy with the work, glad I shopped around, other shops in town was higher in price and wanted to sell me an upgraded transmission, price was within my budget, friendly employees, I recommend Gene's transmission. read more

Gene's Transmission is a life saver. Not in the literal sense but close enough. You see, I was driving my 1963 Ford Falcon Sprint Convertible on the way to the 2017 Falcon Club of America National Convention in Sacramento when I lost all ability to shift in and out of gear. I was 40 miles away from the car show and panicked that I wasn't going to be able to attend and compete with the car I just spent over a year and thousands of dollars restoring. I called a local classic car company and they suggested Gene's. My wife also called another company and they also suggested Gene's. When I finally got Gene's on the phone and explained the problem and the urgency to get it fixed, I was told to have the car towed in and they would see what they could do. When my wife and I arrived it turns out the owner was a classic car guy and sympathetic to my problem. An hour later we returned to the shop and the car was on the lift being worked on. Luckily for us, all that was wrong was that the linkage assembly had come unclipped causing the car not to shift. The mechanic fixed the linkage and made a few minor changes so it wouldn't happen again. We were presented with a very reasonable bill and were on our way. I was so happy I could have hugged both the owner and mechanic but didn't. We ended up making it to the show and had a great time. My convertible placed 1st in our class and my wife's hardtop placed 2nd in her class. We wouldn't have been able to make it if it wasn't for Gene's Transmission and his willingness to drop what they were working on and looking at my car. I suspected the transmission on my 2013 Nissan Rogue was having problems but no one could replicate what I had been experiencing. Finally it crapped out on me and the check engine light came on so I called around to get quotes. I knew it'd be expensive but I tried calling the dealership and they quoted me damn near $5000 before taxes to replace it (I was looking for worst case scenario prices). I tried calling Stone's Country Tire & Auto (I always hear great things about them) but after telling them my issue, they said they were pretty busy and would probably send it to Gene's anyway. They gave me his number and I gave it a shot. Being a woman, I know more than the average woman does about cars but I'm still leery of going to see mechanics. There's some pretty shady people out there looking to make an easy buck. Thankfully, Gene's was not such a place. They didn't nickel and dime me by charging for the diagnostic or just to look at it. I brought it in, he checked it out, he quoted me $3300 to replace the transmission, I put my faith in them, and voila...3 days later my car was purring. They even had me bring the car back after 800 miles so they could check the work for free. I paid exactly what they quoted. This place is a gem and I would definitely recommend them! read more

They were rude. I parked my car right outside their shop. I went in 2 hours before their regular closing time and said I have an issue with my car, which would probably take me less than 1 minute to show them. They said we will look at my issue and take my car after 5 days. I said I am ok if they want to take my car a week later, but I just wanted them to look at the issue (which would only take 1 minute at the most) so that they at least get a context of the issue before blindly saying they will take y car and fix it, but the guy refused straightaway. He said, you came at closing and I don't have time. I went 2 hours before their regular closing time, and they couldn't spare just 1 minute for me. I reminded them twice indirectly and politely that their approach could be better, but they didn't care. Even after few trials, they just said "That's right! I can't look at it. I am busy". I bought a 2004 Honda Odyssey and within one week the transmission was messing up. I got curious and looked around on the internet to see if that you're had problems with transmissions and they had problems with the sensors that went to the transmission not the transmission itself. But I went up to Gene's to see how much they would charge to diagnose the problem and fix it and the guy at the counter immediately wanted to replace the transmission without even seeing the van. I was referred to Gene on the basis that he was very experienced and honest- honesty can be hard to come by with mechanics and repair shops. Although I won't be getting my transmission repaired, I am very thankful to Gene for his help in diagnosing my car and his honest feedback on what I should do. My transmission gave out in my Mitsubishi Eclipse and I had it towed here to see what the problem was. I called them the next day to find out it was an internal issue and was way above my budget to get it fixed. So I went on a quest for a new car. They were so nice and even gave me advice about buying another car. Then when I asked him how much I owed, he said just save my money and put it toward my new car! I went to Gene's on the recommendation from Stones Automotive. The transmission linkage on my 69 Chevy truck was worn and unadjustable. Greg agreed to give it a look, I asked him to do whatever was necessary to fix the problem, knowing that statement was much like a blank check. Greg did some creative welding to worn linkage parts and made appropriate adjustments to align the linkage to the transmission. All works now as intended. I had left the truck for the day, the "blank check" turned out to be 0.7/hr. I was more than pleased to receive a bill that very well could have been heavily padded, but was not. First I would like to say thank you sooooo much to Gene and his team for making my baby better than new! Now here's the story people this place I recommend 100% I came in with a weird noise coming from trans and my gears shifting rough and funny. I luckily had only bought this car in dec and still had a warranty on it. I'm very glad they were willing to work with my warranty because not all shops do. Plus he kept it real with me if you have ever dealt with car shops you know when you meet genuine people and this is it he told me the deal and made sure I knew the game plan and no joke I was scared because insurance companies don't want to pay for your cars problems but this guy got my stuff covered people! I heard a noise I knew wasn't good coming from my transmission so I took it to genes, I met and talked with greg and after talking a bit about the possible problems it could be I was quoted a price and a time to drop off my car. I opted for a complete rebuild on my 4l60e for 2600 dollars. I dropped off on Wednesday and picked up on Friday and was surprised to find out that not only did greg fix my transmission but he also did a little bit of extra work on my driveline and new u joints while staying at the quoted price. Took my 1972 rebuilt transmission that has been sitting for 10plus years, al I wanted was an inspection to see if it was still good and if it was rebuilt right. I was told it would take two weeks!
