It's been a while since I've been to Genghis. Upon entry, we had to wait over 5 minutes to be greeted. The food bar selection was good on the meat side but the pickings were slim on the veggie side (and no bean sprouts!!!). My first bowl was mixed up with someone else's so I had to remake my bowl and this time I stood there and watched them cook it so that I knew that I had the correct bowl. The food was really good after I got what I ordered. The drinks are blah. Ordered a Blue Dragon and it tasted like a non alcoholic drink: I didn't complain or send it back because at this point, I was ready to go. The saving grace was our server Denise!! She was absolutely wonderful and apologetic for the mix up. She kept a smile on her face which made it hard be upset about the mishap. Fairly decent place... food was quite tasty, and there is a good variety of options. Large bowl will set you back $15 (cheaper at lunch). They actually tell you that you can take as much as you can stuff in the bowl, which is a fair amount of food. They didn't have any lamb options, which I thought was a little strange... that's a pretty typical Mongolian bbq item. I was sooooo happy at stumbling upon a Genghis while traveling through VA...the Genghis close to my home closed over a year ago. The restaurant was nice & clean, the bartender was my server and he was nice, the food was good. Based on this alone, I would have rated my visit a "5". However, the other girl delivering food never brought the crushed peanuts I had asked her for while standing next to the grill; I had asked her about the dried noodles but she said they were no longer available, but that she could bring the peanuts; I was never asked about soy sauce or sriracha, maybe it's not available anymore either. The very first time I came I wasn't sure where to go and the host politely directed me. Once I was seated one of the managers, he has a beard, checked on me multiple times throughout the experience. He made sure I had any extra sauce I needed and just stopped by to make sure everything tasted good. The food was so freaking good I came back the next day (today). I thought maybe it was a one time thing because he knew it was my first time there. Nope! He was working again today and treated me as if he was making tips off my experience. Handed me a tray when I was walking through the food line, got me my beverage, checked in on me. This place is awesome, but it's one of the managers that makes it a 12/10 dining experience. After shopping all day on our day off (aka Good Friday), and purchasing ourselves some expensive "treat yo-self" gifts, my friend and I decided to come here and grab some grub! It's located in a shopping strip across the street from Short Pump. I had tried the place up in Northern VA, but that was YEARS ago. I'm glad I went with my friend here, because I think that the set up was a little weird, but I can understand the stations and areas you have to go in order to finally get your food in the end. Pretty much, you can order different size bowls to fill your protein, veggies, spices, and marinated sauce, you can choose either a small or large bowl. Afterwards, you approach the back to the "chef" and select either noodles (or Cabbage - for Whole30 approve). Then you just walk back to your table and wait until the food is cooked and then they bring it back out to you. It was late in the afternoon, before dinner, so there was not much of a crowd of people eating just yet. The staff were friendly and refilled our water whenever it was close to being half empty. It was a good experience, but I'd like to get their thicker noodles next time. Def gotta be off any sort of diet for this place! haha. First, the food is fine; however, the service, and particularly the manager, at this location is so bad this place really needs to be shut down or the manager fired. My wife and I waited patiently for 30 minutes AFTER requesting our check and two to-go boxes and nothing happened. We get it, server life is tough, and it was a lazy Sunday so we let it slide. I finally had to get up to seek help from another server where we both went in search of to-go boxes. Then I had to search the restaurant for our server to settle the bill. It's already a bad situation, but it's all downhill from there. We are (now were) loyalty members and planned to use our points for 1/2 off; something we identified to the server before placing our order. She wrote down the code but somehow it didn't get on the ticket properly so the bill came back at full price. When we pointed that out she went to the manager to fix the situation. Now this guy is clearly a toxic price of human debris. I'd already noticed a sizably abusive attitude by him towards the servers. To be honest, that's why we were so patient waiting for beyond what's normal. I could see from my table he was heaping a new pile of mistreatment on the server, and his body language said he wasn't going to fix the ticket. When the server arrived back at the table, she confirmed what I saw, and offered to pay us out her her pocket the difference. Something I considered unacceptable. I headed over to take it up the matter with him myself (the server shouldn't have to be in the middle of this). This guy is immediately in my face aggressively (he's a big over 6 foot heavy set guy) essentially attacking me as if the 30 minute wait, and incorrect bill, were somehow my fault. He raised his voice, I raised my, he attacked me verbally and words were exchanged. It didn't end well. As we exited, we shared our story with some waiting patrons and immediately some others also patrons chimes in with their own stories of poor service. I've eaten in a lot of restaurants over the years, but hands down I've never seen a worse manager in my life. Frankly EVERY employee of this location should quit and it's them I feel sorriest for. There are thousands of jobs open in the market right now that will pay the same or better than whatever this place is doing. At those places they won't have to deal with a clearly abusive, and toxic, manager the likes of this guy. If any their servers wants to contact me, I will personally help them find a new and better job. read more

Upon entering there were 2 ppl waiting. 1 black lady standing and 1 white guy sitting both waiting to be seated. We stood waiting for about 8 mins. The guy with the black shirt on came over and said, the owner( the man in the other photo) said he not to seat you because he will not serve you, cause you come in every Sunday and complain. The lady asked what are you talking about. My husband asked the same and well as what are you talking about. He man said let me find out return to grill, but never came back. The waiter not aware of what is going on, seats everyone the people people ahead. As were about to be seated the man in the grey hoodie calls out the waiter to say not to seat us. My husband walks to grill to question his actions. I start to record. My husband explains we have never been here before and simply traveling through. He asked him does all black people look alike to him. He says he can't really see from back there and if it isn't us then we have nothing to worry about. His response was poor. If you're new to the "self serve" Mongolian idea, recommend asking your server for advice, tips, and tricks on preparing what you like. (You mix the ingredients and they do the cooking). I loaded up on the steak and popcorn/baby shrimp, added my favorite vegetables, mixed in my seasonings (red pepper to kick it up), and chose Kung Pow BBQ sauce for the final kick. I asked them to stir in fried rice and noodles, for the final touch. The result - extremely tasty. Staff. Outstanding. We usually love Genghis Grill, they usually have pretty fast service. You usually get in, get sat down, food is fast to cook but this location shocked me. We stepped inside and we're not greeted by any of the staff. They looked at us but continued serving one of the three parties. We have them the benefit of the doubt and waited to at least be told they knew we were there. Fifteen minutes later we still had not been sat down or greeted. Two other families entered the restaurant and they weren't greeted either. We soon left and as we got into the car we saw that the two other parties that had come in after us had left as well.
