Wanted to eat genki but had the worse experience not only at genki but worse experience at a restaurant ever. I have never experience anything like this or felt this way, one of the staff little short girl did not get her name but she is short with little tattoos wearing lashes gave us the worse stare sounded so mad i felt her energy and she is just full of anger and hate like she doesnt even want to be there or help us everytime she brought something to our table she slammed it and walked away i did nothing to deserve this we spend our hard earned money to eat there and get treated with so much hate toward us . I could just tell by her face and attitude demeanor and the way she spoke to us she was very angry i dont know what she is going through but please do not take it out on the costumers i tried calling the store to get her name but no answer im trying to find out and report to cooperate because i don't think its necessary treating costumers that way and hope she doesn't get away with it over and over again but will try to reach out and maybe stop by the store if i ever pass by just to reach out to a higher up and notice them because i do not deserve to be treated like that especially when all im trying to do is take my family out to eat. Came to grab some food with my wife and son, n also brought my and sister. My son loves trains, so we kindly asked if we could be seated on the left side where the cart that brings out the food is a train. The girl in front took a big sigh and said "I guess I'll go clean the table for you guys". While cleaning the table she was throwing all the dirty dishes into the dirty dish tray and being all loud and stuff. Horrible service and Managment. There was the busboy who was actually very respectful and polite and kept asking us if we needed anything else. As Genkis go, I see nothing wrong with this place. Every time I come in, staff is always friendly and welcoming. I come here often and I've never had a bad experience. The food is always up to standard. I enjoy the baked muscles & many other options . Did you know genki has over 100 menu items ?? Crazy right. I love having so many options to choose from . The ordering system is like no other place! I like genki much better because of the newest ordering system. The pads make it so easy to order and less contact with staff over all which is great for everything going on in the world . They are taking great precaution in this pandemic . This is a go-to lunch stop for my boyfriend and me since he loves sushi. This location is located in the Safeway Kapahulu complex. There's usually parking right in front but if not, there's a second floor that always has spots open. We like to come here right when they open because it is a smaller location so it can fill up quickly. The service here is very good. They're quick to start you off with beverages and you order food items off the iPad. The food comes out super fast so we can be in and out in about 30 minutes. Since I'm not a huge sushi fan, I like that Genki also has delicious fried food options. I usually go for the fried calamari, garlic chicken, or kabocha tempura. Oh and I have to order fries (stop judging)! My favorite sushi is the garlic salmon nigiri or string bean tempura. My bf on the other hand loves pretty much everything. His favorite is the spicy tuna. This is his favorite spicy tuna on the island which is weird because he has an extreme aversion to mayonaise. I also like that genki has a stamp card program where you get a stamp each time you spend $10 or more. Once you fill up the card you get a free black plate! If you love garlic (like me!) get the garlic ebi nigiri. Some days I go to Genki just for the ebi. Don't get me wrong, other items are good too! Like the salmon nigiri and ahi poke gunkan, but the garlic ebi is my go to. The service is always really good. They are pretty attentive when it comes to filling up water or tea or making sure everything's okay. It's fast food sushi, so don't expect it to be A++ perfection. This Genki is the closest to me from home and also I think has one of the shortest wait times (We waited about 20 minutes on a weeknight). Whenever I'm feeling like sushi donut don't want to break my wallet I opt for a genki run. Food: The spicy ahi donburi is my absolute favorite. I've been getting this for years because it comes with a lot of fish and is a great size for the price. I love the unagi sauce that they put on top and the sushi riI also enjoy their tempura. It comes out super fresh and hot. Everything here is pretty basic, but still very good. From hand rolls to nigiri, everything is a solid option. Service/Ambiance/Price: This location (as well as all their locations now) have the train come and deliver your sushi. This makes it super easy to order and it's so fresh! I went to the Kapahulu Genki Sushi location to see if it's the same as Ala Moana and it's sooo not the same. Ala Moana runs on a completely different system. The Kapahulu location is way much better including the service. The quality of the sushi is also much better. It didn't looked rushed and the food was actually fresh. The atmosphere in the establishment felt more comfortable than the Ala Moana location. I felt the workers were more welcoming than the Ala Moana location. This is the worst experience I ever have with Genki Sushi. Seems like the employees are not welcoming my family. No greeting when we walk in, just telling us "Second table in the left ". After we seated, no one come to serve us for five minutes( there are only two other tables at the time). Until one server passing by and I call him, he just ignored me walk straight to setup another table. End up I have to wait for another server comes by and I ask her how can we order since there's no tablet there like before, then she go print a QR code and drop off on our table without saying a word. When the foods come, we realized there is no soyu plate on our table, I walk to the front desk( I don't want to wait another five minutes) and ask one of the servers for it, she tells me they run out of Soyu plate, have to wait kitchen to wash. You gotta be kidding me, so I have to wait another six minutes for that. Until we finished all our foods, no one come ask us if we needs anything, and no one come fill our water which two glasses was run out long time. After all, I just want to pay at the cashier and leave. The same server drop off the QR code is there, again, she didn't ask me how's everything, not even say "thanks" to me. Only downfall can only order quantity of 4 at a time, so makes a bit hard remembering what each person ordered or had, but was fun! The little trains bring your dishes. Recommend getting four rolls and trying before ordering more. Tempura, mushrooms, Ebi, tempura shrimp rolls, unagi were all great! Can ring bell and they come to the table for items like spicy Mayo not on the list. Thier green tea was wonderful! Recommend going here. Genki Kapahulu is definitely back and open for business! Yay! I used to frequent the Kapahulu Genki because it's so close to UH. Sadly, I haven't been to this Genki in a while because they closed for renovations and then that unfortunate outbreak happened. Today was the first time I've been to their new location. It's definitely way more updated and wayyyy cleaner than their old location. The only thing that made me sad was that they had no conveyer belt with the sushi going around, only the tablet-bullet train-ordering system. The conveyer belt was so nostalgic to me and to see it not there was heartbreaking... I got over it quickly though, as the bullet train got my food out super quickly and more fresher (is that an actual word?) than getting it off the conveyer belt ever would have. Overall, I love that their new location is really modern and clean. However, the space is really small. On the other hand, I am so excited that they reopened! For those people who might be iffy to go back to genki, don't be! Genki had to pass extremely strict CDC & DoH regulations, so right now they're probably the cleanest they've ever been; plus there's no scallops on the menu. We come here from time to time but tonight gave us the "don't think we want to come here for a while" feeling. Our takeout took 15 minutes longer than the time quoted, probably since the restaurant seemed busy. But think the reason for that "feeling" was that the prices have increased quite a bit. With higher prices I would expect to at least get quality food but was disappointed to get a hamachi that looked like they haven't had customers for a while. Tasted kind of old too. I remember when this Genki Sushi used to be a First Hawaiian Bank branch. That was well over a decade ago, yet I never dined here despite living a 5 minute walk away. There are now Genki locations in Washington state and I have visited three of them. I have had mixed experience with Genki. Very hit and miss by location and visit. I did not intend to visit Genki on my trip, but my parents wanted to try this place for the first time so off we went to give it a shot. The restaurant is fairly large for a conveyor sushi place. Even so, we had to wait a few minutes. I put my name on the list and we waited on one of the benches outside that were setup for this very situation. We were able to get a booth by chance. The restaurant has booths and the typical conveyor belt sushi bar seating. The conveyor belt here is not straight, but rather sidewinds around the restaurant. Menu items are priced by the color of the plate of which there are five kinds. They range in price from $1.50 (yellow) to $4.80 (black). Most items fall in the middle three color categories, $2.20 (green), $2.80 (red) and $3.80 (silver). On a Saturday night, I found the selection here to be rather disappointing. The sushi here are tiny portions compared to the ones at the Genki locations in Washington. And they seemed to circle around the restaurant numerous times. So unappetizing that I didn't even eat any sushi as a result. If I wanted some, I would have ordered rather than pick one from the conveyor belt. Instead of sushi, I ate from the other menu which is sizable and actually pretty good. Tried the salmon collar ($3.80), salmon karaage ($2.80), udon ($2.80), kalbi bowl ($2.80) and an order of takoyaki. The salmon items were my favorites. Particularly the karaage which is a deal at that price. The udon was pretty standard, but was filling and had cute kamaboko pieces shaped like some sort of animal. Who knew fishcake came in cute shapes? The kalbi bowl was also nice and flavorable. It is a good choice for those who are not into eating raw fish. The takoyaki was a special of the day, though I think it should be a menu item really. It tasted like I expected them to. If you are not much of a sushi eater, the other menu at Genki is actually pretty decent. I found the sushi pricing here to be high for a conveyor place, but the other menu is reasonably priced. I would combine items from the two to get the best mix of items and bang for your buck. read more

This place is like the fast food of sushi.. from the automatic rice forming machine to the premixed fishes to the speed of the conveyors belts that zooms the dishes by. As you can see by the pictures provided, we found a hair in our food, and the chicken karaage was undercooked which left me feeling a bit nauseous. I think the branch owners of this Genki in specific should really upgrade the table ware, and maybe have the cooks be a bit more careful to avoid hairs and ensure their fried dishes are fully cooked, especially poultry. I was very impressed this time around at Genki Sushi! The last time was in 2017 and the sushi was not fresh nor there was a lot of selection. This time is was very fresh, made-to-order in fact. Due to covid there were no more boats where the sushi will float around for you to chose from. Stopped in this location after a day at the beach with my ohana. We were surprised to see that it didn't have the conveyor belt like the rest of the Genkis....BUT, it turned out that because you're always ordering what you want the sushi was VERY FRESH! It's not going round and round and just sitting. Food comes out very quick. It's also very clean and the boots are larger than the other locations. I also really need to mention that the service here was AWESOME!..... employees here are very good, hardworking people!
