I'm a huge fan of other Genki locations (Ewa Beach in particular) so I was excited there was one near my job. But wow, what a huge disappointment! I ordered three nigiri options: seared spicy ahi, garlic salmon and tamago. Thank goodness I ordered the tamago because other than one of the ahi pieces, it was the only edible thing I received. One slice of ahi had a thick vein of fat through it that couldn't be chewed through. Both pieces of salmon were even worse. So unpleasant, especially after waiting nearly 30 minutes for it to be ready. They included one packet of shoyu and one of ginger, but no chopsticks or napkins. OMG this place is a hidden gem - friendly staff, absolutely fresh and delicious. You feel light and so content when you leave.

I think it's a pretty good sushi restaurant. I come here with my girlfriend about twice a month. The prices are also quite reasonable.

I don't know what happened but a lot of my favorites have been discontinued... no chicken katsu, gyoza, oyster fry, somen salad, soft shelled crab(!!), veggie croquettes, ocean salad tofu, kanpyo maki, or temaki rolls anymore. All discontinued. read more

Always like to go to Genki, after the crowds have come and gone. Today was perfect. It was around 2pm. Sign at the front said no hot water, so no green tea for me. Had to wait for a solo seat, as the host/busser/server? had some picking up to do. No worries, 4-5 minutes later, I was sat. Got on their toast app, I knew exactly what I wanted. Ordered. Everything went fine. I enjoyed my late lunch. After a fast, this was my first meal of the day. I usually only eat half of the shari (sushi rice). Just wanted some fishy protein. Everything was over-sauced, my new fave is the wagyu-ikura nori wrap. So much kabayaki sauce, I could barely taste the beef! And choke ikura. Everything seemed off-balance. My favorite fast and convenient sushi place . This time I went to the Kapahulu location located in the same parking lot of Safeway. I ordered my go to imitation crab nigiri, spicy Ahi, Unagi, calamari. Like always of course fresh and made to order. Especially now with Covid they don't have the conveyor belts anymore . You need to order on their touch screen I-Pad than the train delivers your sushi. Actually I prefer this way because the other way you really don't know how long the sushi been sitting and going around lol. Customer service is great and they refill your drinks for free. We decided to eat here last evening & although we had to wait maybe 20 minutes, we still had a relaxing time eating here. The Workers here are all so nice & attentive, Mahalo! This has only been our 2nd time with using that mini "bullet train" thingy to order, it's really Cool I'd say, & our Sushis came out pretty quick! Heehee. The only thing that we noticed with our Sushi order, was the Sushi seemed a little more smaller NOW??? Other than that, everything else was good! I just recently had lunch on a Friday because I was craving for the special spicy set . I usually go on Thursday for the senior discount, but the cravings won. I didn't see the usual Thursday staff,but the Friday staff are nice as well. Besides the special set, I like the fried squid, two pieces of the California roll. Been awhile dining at Genki Sushi, and my first time at this location. Food was good for this type of sushi, the Ikura was good and no cucumber added to take up space, ample Ikura on the two Ikura sushi. The Ahi and hamachi sushi was good, though you had to put your own wasabi, which you also have to order. My biggest issue is no beer or BYOB! Serving staff was okay, though you'll have to flag them down. Would I come back? Probably not, kinda expensive for a chain sushi store. read more

Genki is extremely casual so no need to get all fancy, just cruise as you are. You can order uptown 4 items at a time and their portions are small which is perfect if you're like me and like to order multiple rolls. Each item is priced between $2 and $6 per plate, and they just count the plates at the end. The seared garlic salmon/ahi are two of my favorites But they also serve nice sized nigiri. Note that when you go to pay at the front desk they prompt you to tip 18%, 20%, or 22%. I feel like asking for above 15% means that they confidently provide exceptional service. Well the food came out fast and was great and the host seating us was friendly. If you need anything you can just press a button and someone will come quickly to help. We were informed that they were out of ahi at the time which wasn't a big problem. The prices of plates have went up but they have improved their ordering system making it easier to place orders quickly with no fussing over splitting the bill with our friends. I obliged with the 18% tip on an about $80 bill for me and my son (mind you he had about 5 plates of the ikura nigiri among many other more expensive items he likes). This place is a chain in Hawaii. This was my first conveyor belt sushi experience and it didn't disappoint! I was so full afterwards. What happened to this place? I remember they used to be way better than this. And who is to blame? I blame the management ir the owners. Tonight there was a staff of 2 host and 1 server/busser. There was only 1 person to take your orders, bring your hot items, bring your drinks, and take care of your checks. I 100% understand why she came off as nonchalant without any expression on her face. I would not give great service too if I had to wait on the ENTIRE restaurant alone. Sure the hosts do what they can, but they got their own responsibilities. The food,... blah. Sure everyone us trying to cut cost because of rising prices, but if you are going to serve me only sugi in the tuna maki, then of course I will point out how you genki is trying pawn off the scraps as top tier frozen sushi. I haven't been here in a while so now all ordering is done through your phone. I guess this encourages minimal contact with the workers, but I night as well go to kozo or any take out sushi for a cheaper experience. The best point of the whole experience is that children have fun here because they get to see their food bring brought out of a moving race car. Like how can the workers be so busy when most of the work was technology operated. One young asian girl, wearing lashes and bow just had the meanest and rudest attitude ever! No aloha dropping off hot teas by slamming it and she would go back in her corner and stand in one spot with such a "I dont want to be here" look. We had to request water refill and the guy was freaking out bc he had to buss the table first?! Bruh customers dining in comes first. He was busing the table plate by plate and wiping the table so slow and it wasnt even done right. Finally got some more water after another 10 minutes! LITERALLY BASIC SERVICE. The only service we got was getting seated and receiving water & hot teas. They dont even present checks, u gotta walk in the front to pay. I believe the people who was at the register thought that we were Chinese, which we are thought we wouldn't give them tips because we were Asian plus they were being nicer to the Americans that were there because they thought they will give more tips. My sister went to ask for a bag they just tossed it in front of her face. She was not very happy about it. Coming here is like revisiting an old friend that you haven't seen in ages. I literally haven't been here for years since the whole scallop scare. This is the place to go for quick and affordable sushi in the past, but prices also went up, but it looks like it went back down? Maybe because the decrease in popularity and now there's just more options for sushi out there?? This location in particular is now in the same complex as Safeway. It's a lot smaller than what it used to be, but it has a fun bullet train If you dine in. They also have those bento boxes for 7$ now, but when you do the math it's kinda the same plus a free slice of tofu. lol. I was excited for a hot minute. My favorites here are the spicy tuna, salmon mayo with onion, and the fried string beans. I usually just get a few plates and I'm full. Fun to order on the app and watch the sushi come to your table on the belt. Had to ask for drink refills as there really isn't table service here. The staff will run hot food, soup, and some desserts- but they really don't check on you during the dining experience. I come here all the time since it's close to my house and my son loves eating here. Depending on the day the sushi can be a bit inconsistent when dealing when freshness but again this ain't Japan. The location is great right in Kapahulu and at times the line can be a little long but usually the wait is no longer then 20 minutes. Parking at this shopping center can be a bear but sometimes you get lucky. Service is good also! Sorry didn't take any pics. So I came back to Genki and I'm not going to lie we come here a lot. But my last time I didn't have a good experience. I ordered a spicy ebi and they usually put the sauce on top and hit it with the torch...well mine hardly had sauce and don't think it was torched much. I asked if they could fix it but I got the same thing back. I also had a spicy tuna don...just take a look at the picture I attached the portion size just wasn't worth it. It's been over a year since I've had conveyor belt style Japanese sushi. Choshimaru in Narita Town may have been the last place I've eaten. I'll have to say Genki sushi changed a lot. Now you order using a kiosk right at your table. This location in Kapahulu closes at 9pm on Sunday's and plenty of free parking in the shopping center. Food is prepared made to order, it's dropped to your table super fast, certain items were sold out, but many other items to choose from. It gets sent on 2 little boats, when you retrieve it, you're supposed to press the flashing yellow button to send it back to the sushi makers, other items are dropped by a server. Because of covid, I believe they now have $7.99 lunch bento available for take out only. I sure miss eating fresh sushi in Japan! read more

Do you like sushi at a great price & delivered by a small train? Genki is the spot for you! Before the Covid-19 shut down I would come here 3-4 times a month to indulge in some fresh and tasty sushi rolls. This location always has the best radio station on, the music really adds to the experience and it's almost like a small karaoke spot because I'll sing right along using my chopsticks for a mic. My top 3 favorite rolls are the following which I highly recommend you try- 1. Dynamic Spicy Tuna Roll 2. Dragon Roll 3. Deep fried spicy roll 4. Dessert try the Fish with red beans! If you come here often they offer a stamp card that you can use to earn a free black plate roll. The service is always great and on busier nights the waits can be up to 30 mins or so but since the food comes out fairly quickly it's usually less of a wait. Being disappointed that another place we wanted to eat at was closed we came here after the whole ordeal of the hepatitis outbreak which we got caught up in and had to go see our doctors and get the shot. Fortunately we didn't get hit with it or we nipped it in the bud with the shots. We we're remembering how we ate at this style bullet train / conveyor belt style sushi place in Japan and how it actually was really good. Ok I know this is not Japan nor a traditional Japanese sushi restaurant but being that it is supposed to represent Japanese culture and food, this place is sub-par for a couple of reasons. Tossed green salad ($2.75). It came with imitation crab, cucumber, and iceberg lettuce. One would think that you would cut the iceberg lettuce so it can be bite sized but maybe they want to make a illusion of making the already small bowl look more full than than what it is. No presentation what so ever. We love salmon so we ordered nigiri salmon with onion ($3.35) and normally you would get nice thin slices of onion but we got thick little what looked like the end piece and mayo was just sloped on and not the nice thin lines. Seared garlic salmon ($3.35) tasted pretty good. Maybe we should of eaten more of this. Salmon Sahimi ($4.35) normally you would get a wedge of lemon (it even has it in the picture) but none was seen. It was four pieces of salmon that tasted like it might of been previously frozen as it didn't taste buttery like we are used to. Hmmmm maybe the garlic salmon was the same but since it was seared and masked with garlic mayo it hide the taste. Garlic Chicken ($4.35) it was a little over done but tasted pretty good. A message for the management as well as for any servers, when refilling someones glass with water, tea, etc please do not grab the cup where the person outs their lips on. To me that is so gross as I do not know what you touched and now you just put it on my cup. Yuck!!! I hope they step up their game in all aspects as there is other places to eat at. read more
