I'm not a hater of Genki. This is just my opinion based on my experience. After months of renovation. They finally opened back on July 4th. Of course, it'll be hecka busy, so I went a week or so later. On a Saturday night around 6PM I went. It was a 2 hours wait. OMFG! Crazy! The new Genki is very advanced in technology. All that hype about it's belt system and pushing buttons excited me to get in. After 2 hours later, we got seated. We had a group of 7 so we had to split up. Only 4 at most on a table. It was a good thing, so everyone can get a chance to push buttons on the technology thingy. Hehe. The waiter and waitress told us about the technology..how it works and stuff. It's useful. I like how everyone was cooperative in yelling out "iirashaimase!" As for the food, I think the quality didn't change at all. It looks good with all the plates and such. But it's still old, the ones that goes around the belt. Why have it...when no one takes it? When I ordered a plate, I can tell they took it off the belt. The fish was old...tummy sore after. After years of waiting (okay...not years, it was only 2 months), I finally had a chance to try the newly renovated Genki Sushi with the new system of ordering on an iPad and having your order delivered straight to you on a tray that is shaped like a shuttle, train, or fish. Normally, after the renovation, there was a wait of at least an hour and a half or two hours just for a party of 2! I can't imagine what it's like for larger parties. When I went, it was surprisingly only a wait if 30 minutes! I decided that it wasn't so bad, so let's try it. With the new touch screens and delivery system, they also changed their hostess system. You just give them your party size, they check their computer, and tell you how long you're going to wait. If the wait time is okay with you, they'll print out a ticket with a number. They'll call your number when they're ready. As you can tell, it's very automated now. We got seated in about 30 minutes. I was informed that there was only a table available that is order only, which means that you can only order on the touch screens; you don't have access to the conveyer belt. We were totally fine with this since we wanted to try the touch screens anyway. The food is essentially the same as other Genki's. Mostly all the sushi items that would be on the belt would be delivered on their new system, but the bowls and items with liquid (like agedashi tofu) would still be delivered by a waiter. The touch screens even have a call button if you need any assistance or when you are ready to check out. Overall, the employees are very nice and took the time to explain the system and are still there to help if you have any questions. I love gimmicks like this new system and I like Genki Sushi, so I'd come back depending on how long it would be to get seated. My friend and I recently visited your mostly empty restaurant at about 2 PM a couple of days ago. The waiter took our order: 2 miso soup, 1 tekka maki, 1 spicy ahi bowl, 1 assorted tempura, and 1 fried squid. What we received: 2 piping hot miso soup and 1 tekka maki. I had to ask for more miso. The soup was watery thin. Rather than taking the soup away and adding the miso in the kitchen, I was given several tablespoons of miso in a bowl to figure it out myself. The tekka maki was subpar. Regular rice was substituted for sushi rice, and the rice was not cooked properly as some grains were noticeably hard. The rest of our order? It was either served to patrons seated after us or delivered to a table in the Twilight Zone. The only other waitress offered to immediately start our remaining order, but we just had to decline. This is the first time I've been here with a group. Area is small and cramped. No booths. But with the sushi express, you can depend on hot food being delivered hot. This is excellent for the mussels, and fried foods. A peeve that I have is that I always have to order my rice and sashimi separate if I wanted hot rice. I really like this Genki location. It's a bit of a wait, but in my opinion it's worth it. Tasty, inexpensive and fresh, that's how I like my sushi. I am a fan of their miso soup and almost always order a cup. I enjoy their classics - tiger roll, California roll, tuna salad temaki. I highly recommend their rainbow roll and Ebi fry roll - so tender, it melts in your mouth. I personally have a love/hate relationship with these rotating belt sushi places. I love sushi, yet I never pick and eat anything off the belt... which is like a foot & a half away from people's faces, and God knows how long a plate has been going around and around! I can kind of tell which plates have been circulating. I highly suggest you use the touch-screen tablet to place your orders, that will come to you on a little "train." But you can also special order off an iPad and the sushi comes directly to your table on a separate rail system directly from the kitchen. No more waiting around watching the same plates go by again and again. Special order what you want and get it automatically delivered to your table on a bullet train or surfboard. Yellow plates are $1.90. Green plates are $2.75. Red plates are $3.35. Silver plates are $4.35. And black plates are $5.35. Lots of good choices in the yellow green and red plates. My favs are the corn ($1.90) and tempura string bean ($2.75). Both are unique. They also have temaki rolls that are cleverly packaged in plastic.
