Staff was very unprofessional and unorganized. They do not have good customer service and I do not want to go back to this location. The other locations I have been to have been great. The parking was also horrible and it was a bit hard to find the actual place. They also changed their hours by posting a paper note to the door. This place could be one of the most weirdest place I've been to. The servers took turns coming to ask us if we wanted the check when we just sat. And one of them kept coming by to refill water and pressing the call button so the other servers could come check on us. I said no I didn't press it it's that server pressing the button. Then they said sorry she's just playing around getting us to come by. I mean how unprofessional is that? Also they gave us 2 wrong checks. And finally our check with extra items on it. Came here with my friends and the service was kinda bad! I didn't like how the servers weren't helping us! I didn't like how we kept on waiting for the servers to come to us when we wanted to ask a question to them! The place looked really messy and not cleaned at all! Nothing too special about this place, but it is pretty solid as far as conveyor belt sushis go. Paid about 30 for 4-5 plates, a little overpriced but I did leave feeling satisfied. Their seared tuna/salmon with garlic sauce is reallyyy good, highly recommend it. Also got the spongebob ice pop to play the gacha game, we didn't win and the ice pop tasted like medicine but just looking at it gave me enough serotonin to last a lifetime read more

I had dinner at Genki Sushi in Ala Moana yesterday. I was in the area and had a craving for Sushi. I don't really like take out sushi... for whatever reason I don't think the experience translates from dine in to take out very well. It was still early and only a few diners, so I decided to dine in. After going through the COVID protocols I was seated at the rotating conveyer belt counter. It was interesting as no one was within 12 feet of me. I had the usual fare, salmon, natto, and ahi poke nigiri as well as some fried calamari. The pricing has definitely changed over the years and it's definitely much more expensive now for less quality sushi. I've always been a fan of Genki Sushi, but lately I haven't been enjoying it much. Unfortunately, the day that I came (Mon 08/28/17) they were out of many items that I usually order. They were out of baked mussels, spicy tempura roll, & fried squid combo. All the servers I dealt with were always nice, even before they renovated the restaurant. Only thing they need to work on, is water refills. A few times we would have to wave someone down for more water. Prices are a little expensive for the quality of the sushi, including the sizes. Today was my first time eating at this particular Genki Sushi. This was a good experience! When we got there, we saw the big sign advertising the 10% discount from Sundays to Thursday for Kama'aina and Military. All you need is your ID for proof. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a nice lady wearing a black uniform. She took us to our table. A lady in yellow came to us and asked if we wanted any drinks and we said water please. I really liked how they formatted the menus because we have the ease of ordering our food whenever we want, without flagging down the waitress down. The little trains were cool because I have never seen any place that has a motorized train to serve food to the people. It sensed once the food was taken off of the train, so that it could go back to the kitchen. We ate our food, got our check, paid for the food (we did get the 10% discount) and then left. The only reason I am not giving the place 5 stars is because there was an error in our food because we ordered the seared spicy salmon, but instead we got the seared spicy ebi. We could tell the difference because the ebi had a shrimp looking tail at the end of it. The customer service was horrible. We came in with 7 people and we were sitting on two tables, 1 table with 4 people and the other table had 3. Another person was coming and when they arrived, they wouldnt let him sit down when the chair was empty at OUR table. So the girl went and got the manager and the manager let him sit. One of the girls spilt water on me and made all my clothes, purse, and shoes wet, while another girl gave me a stink eye repeatedly while walking back and forth past us. I am standing there waiting and then 2 other parties come in and they get tended to. Now I am the third and because everybody else had taken the counter seats, I am left to wait for another availability. When I finished with my meal I called the server for a check through the iPad, I hear the bell go off. Nobody comes. Someone else's bell goes off and they get their check. Someone once told me that Genki sushi is something I must try at least once whilst living in Hawaii. Well, having tried it, I now realize that the emphasis must have been on the word "Once", as in have it once and never have it again. The best thing about the restaurant is that it is fast (once you get in) and that your food gets delivered on this cute little bullet train rail. You order on the little tablet by your seat, and zoom! the food comes to your table. The taste of the actual food though, was really just a two star quality and not much else. I honestly have had much better sushi at much cheaper cost. The nigiri has a large portion of rice, and tasted okay, but costed just as much as some much better sushi places. The rolls and bowls were overly seasoned, relying heavily on the flavor of the sauces to carry the taste. The service was great though, and we liked our server who was attentive and friendly. The cleanliness and ambiance was just average and casual. So in short, if you actually love sushi and want high quality fish, this is not the place. It's been a while since we last dined at Genki Sushi - Ala Moana and when we walked in, the theme song of Speed Racer jumped into my mind. Genki Sushi has been renovated (for some time now) and has improved their kaiten-zushi service (conveyor belt). How or what has changed? Well, there are less servers available and you get to input your order on an order tablet or you can choose from the sushi that is going around on the conveyor belt. I think you'll get a fresher product by using the electronic order system. However, for some, the use of electronic ordering seems to be daunting and challenging but then there are others who take to it like "fish to water". The e-display will provide your order history so if you forgot what you ordered, you can view it before submitting the order. Then all you do is press the submit tab and your order is fired off to the kitchen. Within minutes, you see and hear one or two delivery trays with your order on and upper and lower track. The "delivery trays" are in the form of a race car or a swordfish. As soon as you receive your order, remove it from the tray then press the return tray button that way you don't hold up others' orders. You still can choose your desired orders from the conveyor belt as they pass in front of you. Each dish is identified by type (Gunkan, Nigiri, Temaki, Maki, or Uramaki) and color-coded with price per dish. At the end, of EITHER ordering method, you will be able to call for a server to total your bill which you take to the cashier to pay. During your meal, a server will routinely come around to take and refill your beverage order. Service has become more efficient as your sushi will arrive freshly made from the kitchen. You eat and pay for only what you order. The downside is that they only have 1 cashier on duty so the line could get long if someone has a dispute or is placing a take-out order. All in all, we enjoyed our experience at this location of Genki Sushi. It is a good model for food service efficiency. read more

This is still my favorite Genki location. This place was closed for a couple of months or more while they remodeled and updated the location to the new Genki Sushi Japan standards. We had to wait for about an hour. They can tell you pretty accurately when you'll be called. Food: Overall the food is about the same or slightly better. Same prices too as far as I can tell. The main difference is that special order items come to you quickly. In fact the sushi rice is still warm. I've never experienced this before at Genki and it really improves the experience. So if you like the Genki Style sushi you won't be disappointed. Technology: This is the main difference. 1.Computerized number assignments when it is busy. You are given a ticket with your number so you can be called in order. That's fair. 2. Touch screen menus at each table. Easy to use and you can order drinks and any item that is not rotating. You can also call for assistance from the touch screen. 3.Hot or cold fresh sushi sent efficiently directly to you in a race car sort of thing. See the pictures. It's fun when your order magically appears! Seating: Some counter seats facing the belt. 4 or 5 tables located on the rotating belt. Only weird thing is that there is a new table section at the far back which has no rotating belt. It only has the special order tracks. Be aware of this as you are being seated. If you prefer the rotating belt be sure to let them know . Seemed like most people did not mind. One party didn't like the idea and asked to be reseated. In all fairness the items come out very quickly. My family liked it and we'll be returning. But, of course, some people just don't like the fast food sushi concept. Some people compare it to Kuru Kuru. I've had both plus I'm very familiar with Sushi San. Kuru Kuru may be better on some items but not all. Take a chance! Try out the new Ala Moana Genki! read more

My 3 year old daughters LOVE LOVE LOVE this Genki Sushi because of: 1) the touch screen technology (they love placing their own order on the table side computer screens) 2) the novelty of the delivery system (they love guessing what's going to deliver their food - the race car? the surfboard? the swordfish? - they also love watching them zoom back and forth across the track. 3) the inari and tamago sushi (they don't eat anything else). Mom and dad like the salmon karage. Genki is not the cheapest sushi around (even with Sushi San raising their prices, they're still cheaper). It's also not the best quality sushi around (it's fast food sushi). It's also not the most convenient (yes, it's at the mall, but because of the current construction, parking sucks and because this particular location is so small, it doesn't seat many people, and, as a result, there's usually a wait to get in.) So, then, why do we come back here AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN? The novelty and entertainment of the delivery system. My girls LOVE it (did I already mention that?). The service, the quality of food, it's just going downhill. My wife and I had to wait over more than 30 minutes with our order. When other customers were getting theirs fast. We felt left out. My wife got a server's attention and told the server that we ordered our food awhile ago and we waited for more than 30 minutes and the restaurant wasn't even crowded. The server told us that the kitchen might be short staffed and she just arrived. I work in customer service so I understand about the short staff but when no one gives you the notification that the kitchen is short staffed and it'll be awhile, it just make the customer(s) more impatient. Plus when we finally got our food, the kitchen kept giving us double the food we originally ordered. So communication is obviously not their strong point. All I gotta say is Genki Sushi Ala Moana, please work on your customer service skills, also work on the quality of the food. The rice just falls apart before we even touch it. Last minute dinner decision... we didn't even take the order off the belt and sent it back but we were told since we ordered it we have to pay for it. Other Genki Sushi's have taken an order back because we either ordered it in error or it came without us even placing an order. Should have took a screen shot when we first checked to see if we even ordered the tobiko nigiri. When the waiter first checked it wasn't there and all of sudden. When the kitchen would take it back, it showed up as we ordered it. Regardless this just means less tip because we had to pay for a dish we didn't want. Would have ordered more dishes but decided twice about it just in case we get other stuff we didn't want. This is the only Genki that will not take back something you didn't want.... Parking: It's located in Ala Moana so you can park anywhere in Ala Moana which is nice. The construction does limit parking these days but sooner or later, you'll get lucky and land a spot. Food: Over the years I have craved Genki less because the quality, in my opinion, has gone down. I was pleasantly surprised this visit to check out that new ordering system. The sushi was a lot better from what I remember and everything seemed more fresh. Miso soup tasted watered down but sushi was good. It's very affordable decent sushi! I must have ate 2 or 3 plates of spicy tuna! We liked the sushi so much that we even ordered fried items that we normally never get at Genki. Service: It's the same as you would expect from all the other Genki's but you do have that cool new monitor in front of you where you can scroll through the menu to order what you want when you want it. You don't have to wait for a waiter or waitress to take your order. There is still the sushi and wasabi that goes around on the belt if you don't have the patience for them to make it to order. We had our tea/water refilled promptly and didn't have to wait long before someone checking in on us. For this establishment, that's good service in my book. Fast forward about 10 years and I'm a teenager going to Genki at least twice a month because it was convenient and I would get some SERIOUS sushi cravings. But then my love for Genki decreased because quality decreased. Around this time I discovered Kuru Kuru, but it was sooo far away! Years later, they open one in Kahala! Yay! A couple years later, Genki Sushi at Ala Moana is closed for renovations. Months after the reopening, I drag my best friend, who didn't know about the renovations because she wasn't on the island, there to check it out with me. The outcome? My love for Genki Sushi has returned! Ever since this location has undergone renovations over the summer, this Genki has become my favorite conveyor belt sushi place! Really, I just can't get enough! In the words of Michael Jackson, "Don't stop til you get enough!" What's new and improved? - Same conveyor belt format, but above that is two levels of "highway" where "cars" holding the ordered plates zoom straight to the pair of seats that ordered the items. Fun stuff, even if you're not a kid anymore. - A touch screen tablet that you use to order your food. If you sit at the bar, the seats are paired up so that two people share a touch screen. The touch screen is removable from its holder above the "highway," but after you hit "order" you need to place the tablet back in its holder before the order goes through. It's a bit of a hassle to remove and replace it for every 4 plates of food you want to order, so I usually just order it straight from the holder. Yeah, they limit your order to a total of 4 plates, but after you hit order, you can start your next one right away! - Quality. The quality of the food has definitely improved since their renovation. - Monthly specials. These are pretty awesome. What they do is they take a normal plate order and portion size it bigger. The prices stay the same, but you get more food. For example, they've had the Spicy Ahi bowl with EXTRA Spicy Ahi, three pieces of nigiri/gunkan instead of two, and two pieces of croquette instead of one. - "Slot machine." Well, sorta. There's not an actual slot machine in the establishment, but on each of the touch screens is a button for the slots. In order to play the slots, you must order an item from their special slot machine menu. Most items are dessert items. Just touch the button that says "slots" and order like normal. After the order goes through, you'll be presented with a button to start the slot machine. If you win, you get some sort of prize! My friend played and won some genki merch. Our neighbors saw this and decided to play too! We have a theory that your prize is dependent on what your winning image is. Ours was the Genki face so we got stickers and a phone wiper charm with the Genki face on it. My cousin also played before and he took home one of the Genki Sushi plates. It got to a point where we wondering if they forgot about our orders or not. It was so frustrating seeing so many spicy tuna rolls pass us by before our orders even came out. We were hungry so we finally gave up and ate a few plates that passed us by at least 20 minutes after being seated. For the most part the waitresses either disappeared in the back or hung around gossiping with eachother, so it was hard to flag anyone down. We waited in line to get into this restaurant. It's quite small so takes a little while. 9 people ahead of us but we hung in there. Got in and was seated. No explanation of how to order but we figured it out- you have to scan a ticket that is left in your table what a QR code and then order online. After ordering a few items I noticed that there were like double the items on my bill- lots I did not order. Well someone gave another table the same QR code as is and it was all on our bill. It caused a lot of confusion. Had 2 people come and ask me to verify what we ordered. It was fixed but did stress me out a bit. They forgot to give us wasabi/soy dishes. Can't recommend going to this location. Sushi is noticeably smaller than at other locations. The deal breaker was when I received my monthly credit card bill. It was $1 more than what I wrote on the credit slip (credit slip was $99.25 and my statement had $100.25.). I would have thought that the person entering the amounts misread my hand writing if it was close (98 vs 99), but from 99 to 100? That not a mistake that's intentional. My sister and I recently went to have lunch here since we were strolling through the mall. A total upgrade in technology and renovations from the last time I've been there. I guess it's really been a while. We were there shortly after 1 pm on a Saturday and waited no longer than 15 minutes. It wasn't as busy as I've experience before in the past visits as I'd remember waiting up to 45 minutes to an hour. They now print out a waiting number ticket as you wait for your number to be called. I really like the new ordering system concept of the little cars transporting the food on the conveyor belt to where you're sitting. If I were you, I'd order straight from the menu and not get it directly off the rolling conveyor belt. You get a lot more fresher items that the ones that may have been sitting there rolling around for quite some time. The ordering system is pretty simple and straight forward. You can order up to 4 items each order as many times as you want. The orders on the car came in quickly manner. It's one of those fascinating things that excite me to experience things such as that bullet express for ordering food from an ipad menu. It's so much better than trying to flag down a waiter. The prices surely went up from what I remember. A lot of the items even moved up a plate price. I order my usual chicken karaage, spicy tuna bowl, somen salad, and vegetable croquette. I was quite surprise at the portion servings when I received it. I felt that as the prices went up, the portions and quality went down. Even though I ordered it from the menu, it didn't seem fresh to me. The rice was hard and not appetizing with the spicy ahi. I love the train, surfboards, and cars that deliver our sushi. So, if the line is short, I tend to try to go in. This time, we were seated very quickly at the bar seating rather than a booth. Our drinks were brought very quickly. The conveyor belt now has little signs that tell you what the next few plates are. I guess those are very helpful for newcomers here at Genki, or perhaps were even helpful for me when I saw and questioned, "salmon karaage?" I had some of the seared maguro this time and was surprised at how good it was. My go to plates are the maguro, sake, ikageso or fried ika, spicy ahi, and tamago. I used to get the scallop mayo all the time, but looks like Genki isn't bringing that back anytime soon. I always enjoy Genki for a lunchtime stop when I can. I haven't been to Genki Sushi in years. After 4+ years of living on the mainland, I finally came back "home" for a visit. My mother and I decided to eat dinner here one night, and sadly, I have to say that this place is just not as good as it used to be. I guess the recession is to blame. I can understand that they would have to purchase cheaper quality ingredients in order to keep the prices down and to avoid losing many customers. I was disappointed that there was basically no variety of sushi to choose from on the conveyor belt. I swear, I must have seen the same 10 Spicy Tuna Rolls, 3 of the Green Salads and 5 Crab Mayo Rolls over and over again, the entire time we were there. We had to order everything through our waitress. But the good thing about it was that everything was made fresh and I did not have to worry about how long my food was sitting out there on the conveyor belt. This is what I had: Natto- Yes, I eat Natto and I like it! Thanks to my mother who made me eat it with rice many times when I was a kid. It's rare that any sushi restaurant actually has a Natto Roll, so I had to order one! Ume Maki- a classic favorite for me since I have always liked Ume. This is another one you rarely see at a sushi restaurant, especially on the mainland! Salmon Skin Roll- I am used to eating crunchy Salmon Skin, but this one was soft. It didn't have much flavor to it. The employees were friendly and attentive. The sushi wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't horrible either. Can't really complain with their low prices. In Hawaii, there are plenty of "fast food" versions of sushi and then there are the higher end places that you will drop a pretty penny. For me, Genki ranks somewhere in between, slightly better than fast food sushi since you can at least get it made to order and there are baked or cooked items on the menu, and modifications. The concept is simple. Take plates off the rotating conveyer belt, or (new to me on this trip home) take the tablet at your table and order from the menu that way, with the ability to peruse the menu and look at pictures. I enjoyed using the tablet to order, you can place 4 orders at a time and it arrives in a timely manner via "express train" on the conveyer belt. SO cute. I love it! The menu is still the same as I remember. I like the poke nigiri, nato, spicy ahi, and ebi. The cooked food is decent too. read more

This place was very cute, love the idea of convert belt sushi delivered as order. Prices were a little much, but hey, it's Hawaii and they're gonna overcharge you when they can. The sushi satisfied my craving so I'd go back to this place if I wanted sushi again in Hawaii. I'm giving it 3 stars because it's affordable sushi, with different tapas for everyone to try a little bit of everything. But the fish didn't melt in my mouth and the flavors weren't unique so it wasn't the best grade and that's why I took away 2 stars. read more

Wow. Genki Sushi Ala Moana has reached an all time low. No A/C in the restaurant. Not even a fan. Both Bullet trains that were delivering our food were filthy! Covered in old spilled food! Gross! I asked the waitress to please wipe them down. read more

I don't recommend this place because one of the workers are very rude and started yelling at each other for no reason. They don't apologize to us for all that yelling. Here I thought it was a nice place to eat but I guess not. I prefer pearlridge Genki sushi and I would never want to come back here again, also there's this one worker who had short hair that looks like a guy was very rude when the last time I came in to dine in and she needs to fix her attitude and she needs to get retrained because she was very bad. Finally got to see their renovations. We got lucky and avoided the lunch rush since we didn't need to wait. I asked one of the workers how it worked since it was my first time with their new set up. Best way he put it, "If you have a smartphone you'll know, if not, there's something wrong." Got seated at the end of the line. Of course playing with the buttons I got the hang of it already. I was confused on how it would know where to stop but that was explained that it would keep going and stop in front of the people that ordered. I was amused when our food arrived on the line! But really, why a swordfish? Until the other locations follow suit, I just wanna come here to see my food be delivered on the line! So much better.
