We were waiting for 10 minutes outside the door to be seated as employees walked by paying attention to the work but no courtesy to ask if we were dining in or checking in due to the sign saying wait outside to be screened and seated. There's a level of service that Coperate should apply for their employees that would be attentive to their guest given that most restaurants are struggling to stay afloat here in maui. My wife and I were not pleased with having to ring the bell to get our drinks refilled being as we waited at the table for ten minutes... and finally we were approached by the night manager around 8:20 pm and told that we will not be able to order any food soon due to the kitchen closing. I asked her how come they were shutting down so early and she mentioned that when it's slow they shut down 8:45 pm, but the signs say 9pm fir the closing time!!! No no no... As you walk into the restaurant, there is an overwhelming stench of what smells like vinegar and stinky feet. You are seated on average 15-20 Mins later though there are open booths and counter top seats throughout the restaurant. Upon seating, usually there is sticky residue from the last family that sat there and please don't use the ginger and wasabi. Once I found pieces of tempura in both. There always seems to be a shortage of the smaller shoyu bowls. The menus are sticky and the "train" that delivers your food has splashed sauces and other smaller pieces of food embedded into the tracks and splotched along the train side. The servers are rude and will pour water over your lap, and have reached over me to deliver food to someone else in my party. To top things off, Genki has recently raised its prices by $1.00 for almost everything on the menu. At this point, I would rather spend $6.00 on a dragon roll at an authentic and more sanitary restaurant with better servers. #neveragaingenki read more

This is our sushi go to. It's fast and cheap. My son loves their new train bullet system. It's not the freshest fish but worth the money. Their mini udon is good, miso soup, and I love the baked mussels. If your looking for fresh ahi, quality sushi or local fish this is not the place. But if you want a quick bite you can't go wrong. Service sucks and they never came back to say if my order was lost or coming or forgot. Trerrible neveragain cause this is the 2nd time service has left us forgotten. No appreciation and no tip. Visited here because my husband and I regular Genki in Seattle area. This is different, it's like a race track which means rolls are made to order rather than on a track for hours. Right as you roll in, one of the hostess finds you either a booth or a bar seating. The sushi conveyor belt puts out cold sushi or sashimi such as salmon, ahi poke, tuna, natto roll (too afraid to try that one), and California rolls, etc. I would definitely order the tempura calamari next time instead of picking on up from a conveyor belt! But, I like the food. This is me being honest. Food is a 4; service is a 1. Sucks that good food is paired with one of the worst service experiences you can get on Maui. On a good note, the sushi is pretty good. My faves are: spicy tempura roll, seared spicy salmon, chicken karaage w: extra lemon, ika karaage and spicy tempura roll. If our family didn't crave sushi at times, we wouldn't be here. The first time I came to this location, there was hair in my nephew's udon, there was dandruff looking flakes on our ice and some dirty substance in the water. Of course we couldn't see at first, because our cups were stacked high with the ice and we were already shocked at the hair in the udon. To top off the visit, when we reported it to the manager (never got his name, buts it's a skinny Filipino looking guy), he said "well what you want? You already drank most of the water". Apparently the regular manager was at the Lahaina location for something, and this kid was a fill in or something. The next incident happened New Years Day 2017. We came in about 45 minutes before closing, and we were greeted with a "you know we close soon right?". Then when we finished our food (well before *closing*), we ordered an udon to go. Took over 20 minutes before we had to bring it to the attention of two different waitresses, only to find out it wasn't being made yet. The waiter that counted our plates also gave us the most sarcastic send off with his "thank you for coming and happy new year". He was a short Asian looking guy with a shaved head. The only thing that kept us up was the udon. When we received word that it was done, my family left while I went to pay. Then as I paid and waited for the take out udon, the worker who gave me the udon, almost took the bag back from me and asked if I even paid yet. When you first walk in sometimes they greet you and sometimes they don't.. I personally used to enjoy eating at Genki sushi but now it seems like they have a bunch of foreign workers that don't speak good English and don't know good work ethics. When I went in, I stood in front of the hostess stand for about 3-5 minutes then finally a guy came and wrote my name down and spelt it incorrectly after me spelling it out 5 times for him. Then after that I asked how long the wait would be and he just shrugged his shoulders. People that came in after me and my boyfriend were getting seated faster and earlier then we were. (we asked for a booth, and people were getting seated in booths still). Then my friend came in to sign in her name and her and her boyfriend were sitting outside, and they called her name and I just let the hostess know "hey, she's outside and she's right there". She looked outside said her name once and walked back in and crossed her name out. I called my friend in and made sure she would be seated because the shitty hostess was extremely rude. We then finally got seated in a dirty table where they came and bussed it AFTER we sat down. We finally ordered our food, then the server comes back to tell me majority of the items I ordered were not available.... So I was already fed up. Sorry Genki Sushi, but you ain't making me "Genki" (Happy).. I'll be back and hopefully it can be a better experience. This is definitely the "better" genki. It gets really crowded during peak hours and they often run out of items for weeks at a time. Its not the best sushi but fairly cheap and fun for kids and adults. I personally don't trust the conveyor belt I like to order it from the waiter/waitress and get it fresh. This is like the forever 21 of sushi. Cheap not high quality but good every once in a while. Be careful you don't over order. I am normally opposed to this type of food service. I don't eat at mcdonalds or fast food in general. if I eat sushi I prefer one or two super fine quality establishments on Maui (sushi paradise or Koiso). However I have a six year old that loves sushi and once she came to the Maui mall genki sushi she was forever in lust with this all you can eat style of sushi which comes out On a bullet train and is order via an iPad. The sushi is just as good as grocery store variety but for 1/2 the price. Having said that you can easily spend $100 without noticing which is what we did today. Not the plan! This is a good place for a group and great for kids and it's clean albeit sterile. First visit after the remodel. Express belts installed and functional. Limited order quantity is four plates (don't worry, you can place order after order after order) Items in bowls are brought by runners - all Gunkan, Rolls and Nigiri are brought by express. Initial introduction to the system - we were warned that you could accidentally order something you don't want - I call BS, you cannot order something you don't want - it asks you to verify BEFORE you process your order. The bar patrons sitting on the opposite side of the track from us insisted at one point that they didn't order something (LOL), bare in mind that they will not refund a "mistaken" order due to the fact that they make them when you press "order" and confirm. The hot tea was absolutely disgusting - heavy metallic taste that stayed in my mouth even while eating. Just switched over to water and all set. You also can look at your order record at any time during your visit so you don't overspend (or are less likely to overspend). Taking the servers out of the mix takes care of all of my previous issues with this location. I will say that everyone working during this visit seemed very pleasant and I can't say that I minded having any of them check on us. All-in-all a fine visit and some much needed redemption for these guys. Good read more

Did I come here for the great sushi at Genki Sushi? ehh, sort of, but its more for the experience that you won't get at the mainland. The only other city I have seen this sort of cheap sushi on a conveyor belt was in London, and I can't remember the name of it. Something like this would not fly in the mainland, a food inspector would frown upon food being towed on a conveyor belt with no splach guard, too many food rules are broken at Genki Sushi, but the Hawaiians are so cool they have their own rules for everything! Anyways, back to Genki, service was sub-par, but I was so hungry I didn't care, my eyes were on the dishes moving on the belt. Round and round we go with spicy tuna roll, california roll, and even cupcakes! If you want something you don't see, just flagged down a server and it'll take less than 5 mins for them to cook it up. The garlic chicken, a little crispy, but the sweet and spicy sauce more than makes up for it. For a fast food sushi joint, I thought it was pretty good, then again, we don't get fresh sushi on a daily basis like the islands, so my sushi taste buds could be non-discriminative especially when I'm hungry and have an empty stomach. read more

Heard Genki Sushi had undergone renovations so I had to check it out. I was in a party of 4 and didn't really mind the 45 minute wait. It was understandable for a Friday night. It's a bit dimmer than how it used to be which I like. The atmosphere is much more relaxed, warm, and inviting. The new bullet train ordering system is pretty neat. It allows you to order food through some sort of iPad-like thingy and in a few moments your food is delivered by a train that replaced the conveyer belt. Food here still remains delicious and we had no problems with what we ordered. Service started a bit slow until Marc came around. He was very attentive to refilling our water before any of us could drink it all completely. No one likes running out of water. Overall, the renovations definitely changed the atmosphere of this place for the better and our experience here was a delight. 4/5 would come again. read more

I give it 2 1/2 stars. There are a couple of things I can't get past. The bad ass kids that breathe all over the conveyer belt and touch everything (the staff doesn't say anything) the community containers that have ginger in them (unsanitary). The wet cloth they wipe everything with (yes, let's just spread all the germs) The udon is probably the best thing they have. Order it from the back! Love this place, but maybe it's partly because we don't have one on the East Coast. I'm not saying it's great sushi, but it's better than your typical cheap dump. Also, the whole sushi-go-round experience is enjoyable... like a sushi buffet (even though you pay by the plate). You sit there, pick what you want, eat as you wish, and when you're done they just tally it up. Of course, someone like me is at danger not only of gaining weight but emptying their wallet. :P I'm not sure what people are talking about when they complain about cleanliness or service. Sure, the sushi sits on the trays a bit and isn't covered, but no one is coughing on it and it's not like it sits there for hours. Everything I've ever eaten there was fresh and I even saw the chefs making new plates in front of us. If you want something specific, just ask and they'll bring it out! As for attentive servers, I think we were asked about refills every time our glasses were half empty. Maybe I'm not picky, since this is the only Genki Sushi I've eaten at. I did eat at similar places in Kahului and Kihei years before, but they'd long since closed. However, this place has been there for 5+ years now and has always been reliable. If you're looking for some decent sushi for an OK price without trying some fancy place, just stop in at the Maui Mall and get your fish on! read more
